A border along the virtual linguistic border could be a sustainable solution, along the line "Charkov, Dnipopetrovsk, Nikopol, Kherson" given the natural borders (mostly rivers) helping that line and there d be enough buffer zone on both sides to safely hold that border. Odessa and even further west of it would be an issue coz you can be sure that Ukraine will not concede a safe access to the Black Sea but these regions there are mostly populated by Russian speakers. I could imagine Russia might agree to concede Odessa and draw a line at Mikolayev. Overall, Russia knows that governing the more Ukrainian speaking territories would be asking for trouble/terrorism/meddling so I doubt they see that as desirable.

Europe was merely doing business with Ukraine. Russia invaded because it didn't like losing it's main economic sources to the West. They instigated and armed a fake separationist movements and used it as a scapegoat to invade a whole country in order to reestablish a new puppet after the last one was removed by the people. They did the same thing in other countries since the 90's despite promising them sovereignty. It's no wonder countries like Estonia gives a lot of its sources to aid in the war because they know what it was like living on such a rule.

That said, I'm missing a real and more confrontational approcah from all media about the most important topic: This conflict, and the ratteling of nuclear sabers is, in my view, an indisputable proof of men in power threatening the existance of life of ALL peoples and organisms all over the entire globe! Why isn't this a topic touched upon in the UN, the overall media, and by us "little people" around the globe?

Russia has been trying to negotiate and find an agreement for many years; in 1990 "not one inch eastward NATO", 2007, 2008, 2014, Minsk 1, Minsk 2, December 2021, April 2022. The collective West leaders behaved like shysters. They are negotiation-incapable.

@@bobcharles7716 Well, for now the official Russian Position is that talks are only possible if Ukraine gives Russia vast additional territories that Russia has little chance to conquer in the next few years if ever. That does not seem plausible.
There is also the fact that Russia has a very storied history of negotiating in bad faith to get some battlefield advantage.
During the Chechen war they made a cease fire agreement which included the safe retreat from Grozny for the Chechens. Russia had the retreat path precalculated for their artillery and killed them all.
They did the same thing in the Donbas once.
Also in the Donbas they signed the Minsk agreements but then pressed on their attack around Donetsk and argued that, well that attack had already started and the agreements are only to prevent future attacks.
In Syria such tactics were standard Russian procedure and how they slowly destroyed the Syrian opposition till only the Islamists were left.
And no, Merkel believing correctly that the Minsk agreements wouldnt hold is not the same. Nobody believed that they would, even the main Russian negotiator said the same.

It is an old Soviet strategy that there will always be people in the west that are willing to negotiate and give them something for nothing, so always say that you are willing to negotiate.
