    Do you have any thoughts of dwarf fruit trees? Where did you get your semi dwarves from?

      Thanks for watching. Dwarf trees are great. They are easier to get to stay small. I’ve had a few when I first started planting trees. They were shorter lived. When I was a kid my folks had a little orchard with all dwarf trees in a very small space, very fun as a kid being able to reach all the fruit. The selection and variety is much smaller though.

    I’m still within my first year of living on 1/4 of an acre, I initially had big plans, got discouraged, but now, after your video, I am more determined and hopeful than ever! Thank you for being such good stewards with what you’ve been blessed with, I pray I can do the same ❤

      I think we all get discouraged now and then! As long as we keep those big plans in our mind and do a little here and there, that progress will fuel us. I get discouraged after a long winter when the gardens and orchard are bleak. Then… I see daffodils blooming and I start to feel good do my garden spring cleaning! How happy and refreshing it makes me feel.

    • @Alisorganics
      @Alisorganics  3 месяца назад +1

      Right! And environment, pest pressure (borers especially) are a huge role. I did have a few peach trees over 30 years old, but they didn’t produce well or taste good anymore.
      Most other fruit trees will live much longer.

    Thank you for your encouragement. My question is: overall, your property is 1/2 acre, or is it divided into more plots or sections? How much overall do you farm, including your home, fruit trees, vegetables, animals, etc.?

    I'm surprised you didn't graft new varieties to the tree you took out. Would the age make a difference?

    • @Alisorganics
      @Alisorganics  Месяц назад +1

      I did think about it, but the main scaffolding branches were so sun scalded and damage. anything graftable was pretty high and I thought it might get better best to start fresh. We did do another peach tree several years ago and it worked pretty good and it was much younger.

    Ali, I’m just getting started with fruit trees. We are on 1 1/3 acre; however, I will be using a portion of our property that is about 70 x 200. Our garage is also in this space. It’s 18 x 20. My vegetable garden is 25 x 25 and I will also have chickens. The garden area that I would like to have my orchard is in the south west corner of the property. We just bought our first fruit tree. A honey crisp apple. I’m afraid it’s full size. I was hoping for semi dwarf. My challenge is that we have multiple 60’ and taller trees around the proposed orchard area. I think I need help but not sure who to contact. 🥴

  • @Kristin8275
    @Kristin8275 4 месяца назад +1

    Hi, Allie! Thanks for all the great information. I’ve been following the Backyard Orchard Culture pruning for small trees and that has worked well for me. However, one of my peach trees is leaning and I’m wondering what I should do. It seems to be otherwise healthy and fruited for the first time last year. I planted it in 2021. Thanks for any advice you might have.

    • @Alisorganics
      @Alisorganics  4 месяца назад

      We had a young apricot tree that always wanted to lean. I staked it (30 years ago) and when I took the stake off it started to lean again. Now as an old tree it just leans, but it’s fine and produces well. If yours is leaning and it’s young you could try to give it support to pull it in the direction you need it to go. How old is your tree? how long has it been in the ground?

    • @Kristin8275
      @Kristin8275 4 месяца назад

      It’s been in the ground since 2021. It was a whip when I got it. I can try staking it and see if that helps. Thank for the advice!

    I have 2 apple trees about 5 years. Problem is they get attached by plum curculio (I believe). I can only find harsh chemicals to treat. I want something organic. What do you recommend?

    • @Alisorganics
      @Alisorganics  3 месяца назад

      Kaolin Clay is organic and can help control Plum Curculio. You will need to do 2-3 spayings during the season to keep the fruit coated.
      We are now see this problem in our area.
