    Evening Kurt,, just picked up my first box of ELD-m for my Ruger Precision Rifle in .243, was glad to see you had the new Hornady Book, can't find one around here this week. Got good info off the data page you showed, as I like to load mine with the H4831SC, I was working up load data based off the data from the newest nosler book for that powder with the 107 nosler. I've always noticed that they (Nosler) tend to publish on the down side of things (for safety reasons I assume). I was gonna start my test loads at 41.5 and work up in .5 increments to a top test load of 43.5,...now I see from the hornady book I would have been running way lower than I would have liked. Kudos on that sir!! I'm gonna adjust my data accordingly and save myself some time and powder!! lol I've been runnin the 105 amax since they came out and was kinda pissed to hear they discontinued em, I really liked em, and the coyotes, well, they had no comments. As to date the top shot on a 'yote outta that ruger with the A-max for me was 2 dogs at 712 yds, in under a minute. Just love it when they run to their buddy to see why it just laid down all the sudden.

      I load a dummy round with the bullet seated about 1/10th inch into the case neck. I then load it and close the bolt, the pushes the bullet against the lands.
      Now just measure the OAL and you have the bullet depth needed to seat against the lands. You the just adjust the seating die for another seating depth in increments of .0010. Simple and saves money.

    Great vid. Just ordered the basic kit to start reloading my own .243 so nice to see a video which explains it in a straightforward way. Some vids just leave you more confused if your a beginner! Thanks for putting this on as it's made it so much clearer for me as regards OAL and so on.

      No problem, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I'll be doing about 10 to 15 more videos on the current .243 I'm building and doing load development for a new rifle. I suspect you'll see some highs and lows of what it really takes start to finish. I'll even be posting the bad groups and why I think it didn't work as well as posting the ones that do and why! Stay tuned and thanks again!

      I will start out shooting factory 6mm Creedmoor the 108's seen in your video. I am having my rifle smithed at Area 419. I was given the opportunity to shoot 1 event locally with a few other competition shooters and was hooked since. I am trying to learn as much as I can. again your video is exactly what I was looking for. I am now putting together a minimal reloading list for tools needed and get the book seen here

    Hello and thanks for your video. Did I see you using Magnum LR primers, if so why? Doesn’t the reload manual state standard LR FED 210 primers? Also, does your barrel have a 1 in 8 twist barrel to stabilize 108 gn ELD Match bullets, as the notation at the bottom of the page states?
    My Hornady 11th edition book shows that a 1 in10 common twist barrel in .243 Win gen has stabilization only up to their 90 gr GMX (item 2444) with a G1 B.C. of 0.422 and max C.O.L. of 2.710 which also is SAAMI Max COL for the .243 Win. Hornady also shows their 100 gr. Interlock BTSP (item 2453) G1 B.C. of 0.405, C.O.L. of 2.630, as working with a 1 in 10 twist barrel. I sure would love to shoot those longer match bullets, but they require a 1 in 9 for their 103 & 105 gn. Match Bullets, and a 1 in 8 for their 108 gn. and 110 gn. Match Bullets. My barrel is a 1 in 10 twist. 🙁

    Just want to warn you about ultra sound cleaners, acoording to a study from the UK hearing loss can occur from being too close to a running ultra sound cleaners because of the vibration. I´ve experienced headaches myself when I´ve been loading besides the cleaner. My solution to this has been to run it in unoccupied room, so that I can´t hear the cleaner.
    Great loading video, always learn something new.
    Just bought a RCBS neck turner after your video on it, never knew that the thickness of the neck could vary that much. I´m switching to Lapua or Norma brass soon. Is the ball micrometer essential for neck turning? It´s out of my budget for now but I might buy it later if it helps consistency.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад

      BushcraftJones that would explain why I wear hearing aids now.! Didn't know that about the ultrasonic cleaners, good info.
      Yes, the ball micrometer is almost a must for precision reloading. Save up, it's well worth it.!

    When you held up your shot target 1-5 what was the difference between each load ? Was it length or charge weight ? And if it's was length increments what do you start at off the lands and move in what amounts ? Thanks. Sorry so many questions and sorry if you've talked about in other video's haven't watched them all. Yet. Nice video's very informative.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад

      Brycen5525 well it's a combination of both. However I used the same charge weight on all of them. I start off at the seating depth Hornady specs recommend and move .005 until I'm on the rifle lands. I find with these I'm .010 off the lands and that's the best group for me. The further away the more the group opens up.

    Great vid, I built a 243 on a remington action, krieger 1/8 twist remington varmint contour crowned at 20". I am currently shooting the hornady superformance 75 grain VMAX and shoot under 1/2" groups but that is the only factory round that I shoot that shoots less than 1", and the hornady superformance is so inconsistent I built this rifle strictly for predator hunting and that is all that I use it for, so I want to keep using a rapid expanding bullet. I want to load some 87 grain VMAX but do not know what to power to use. I have one pound of Varget and 100 new pieces of Hornady brass and would like to try that. What suggestions do you have?

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад +1

      Jacob Waitman in my wife's rifle we run the 87gr vmax bullets and 41gr of Hybrid 100V. She can get under 1/2 MOA. We are also seating them about .010 off the lands.

    For the proper O Give measurement wouldn’t you want your modified case to be a fired case for that gun because if you’re not bumping back the shoulder and you’re only next sizing your ogive will not be correct using a non-fire case.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад

      Luke I don’t think they’ll work. You could always try them, but that’s a slow twist for a heavy bullet

    • @jakearchambault8160
      @jakearchambault8160 6 лет назад

      Is it because of the bullet weight or because of bullet length that a faster twist is needed? Im learning a lot of shhtuff here.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  6 лет назад +1

      Jake bullet weight, length, sectional density and ogive all are affected by the rpm of the bullet. Usually the faster spin, the more stable.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад

      ApexKnives tough to say for sure, but you should be able to run 85-95 gr bullets without issue. 95 could be questionable, it’s right on the line. Anything in the 100+ probably won’t shoot well, however I’ve seen some 1-9 rifles that will shoot them.

      leupold 6-24x50 mil reticle ffp
      I shoot the 95 , 100 and the 103 grain they shoot really nice.

    Hey, I love your vidoes. One question on bullet seating...with the stoney point/hornary seating guauge, you are using the factory modified case which I would guess is sized to factory specs.. Have you ever tried making your own modified case from a fire-formed case so that you know it's accurate in a particular rifle? I've tried this, but the neck is always too tight and won't let a bullet slide out to the lands. Seems to me that you need to use a case fired in your chamber to be truly accurate, though I understand that its' all relative. Thanks for the awesome videos! My only complaint is that I stay up way too late watching!!!

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад

      Hey Brian, yes I've made some cases in the past. Drilled them out and tapped them to fit the rod. You can use a Lee Collet die to squeeze the neck down without going to far. Regular dies won't work for this. Use light pressure with the Lee Collet die and slowly work it down to where the bullet has a tiny bit of resistance. It's not necessary to use a fired case, but every little bit helps.

    • @briansweeney8372
      @briansweeney8372 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the quick reply. The problem is, the neck is too tight to use the depth gauge. How to i expand the neck so that the bullet with slide?

    • @briansweeney8372
      @briansweeney8372 7 лет назад

      also.. have you tried this: ruclips.net/video/TWmIwPwLyyg/видео.html

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 лет назад

      If you start off with the fired case, the bullet should drop right through the neck without contact. If thats not happening you have other problems. If it is dropping through, then lightly run it through the Lee Collet with minimal pressure until you have slight resistance on the bullet but still be able to move it with your fingers.

    • @bznbrian
      @bznbrian 7 лет назад

      That makes sense. I wanted to bump the shoulder though, so that my modified case would exactly match my loaded rounds. Using a full-length die backed off to just bump, the neck was sized and is too tight. Is there a way to bump the shoulder without sizing the neck? I really appreciate your help!
