A song about Enrico Caruso, the first great; lovingly rendered by the world's current greatest tenor. A few days before Caruso's death, he was singing in his room at a hotel in Sorrento, being adored by a student. Caruso had throat cancer, tragic and unfair! As he sang, his strength rallied, provoked by those adoring eyes. Caruso was disrespected by Italian opera houses, found love for his art in America. It seems Jonathan knows this story to its depths, it shines through this gifted performance; he catches the moods, amazing accurate diction (annunciation?), grows in strength as the song goes. Brilliance personified. Why is that something that enters the ears produces tears? Some singers polish the gem (the song), very well. Jonathan became the gem, and it is priceless. God, please bless this young man as he blesses us! The cover on the album "Going The Distance" is incredible.
An amazing song of the last days of Enrico Caruso, and when he has fallen in love with a young student. He was dying of throat cancer, and this was a tribute song to Caruso, and unrequited love. I have heard other tenors sing this, but Jonathan you capture the heart of the song. Great Job.
I Agree, Joel, I went to see the movie The Great Caruso with Mario Lanza In the 50s. As a young girl, I was captivated then, Especially when Lanza sang with a very young Pavarotti, it was a powerful performance, Jonathan is up there with All the Great Tenor’s, and I have heard a lot like you.
The English for many years have wanted to have a great tenor in their ranks: here you have it. Long live young Jonathan and the good sense to live it...
I have listened to many renditions of this wonderful classic Italian masterpiece, never have I been brought to tears until hearing this man perform it. You can feel his passion, soul and even his pain. Pavarotti was an amazing tenor, however, I believe this young man may surpass him.
You mention pain, yes - pain lived is part of expression. We live our pain here, in paint and song. On death we depart, returning where pain has never been.
Jonathan has one of those voices that reaches into your very soul. To have that tremondous voice at such a young age who can imagine what can lay ahead of him.💕
2021 and I'm crying for the lost of our precious freedom. Jonathan's voice, his emotions and Caruso brought me to tears. This is what my heart feels right now.
This young man's voice gives me the chills no matter what he sings. When I first saw him on television standing in front of Simon Cowell, I did not judge him for his appearance but people in the audience did....until he opened his mouth and began to sing. I have been following him ever since and hoped that he would move onto bigger and better in his career, and was happy to see him succeed. He has an angelic voice with such power and control. Pavarotti would have been proud to hear Jonathan sing. He exceeds Placido and Carerras in his talent IMHO. Looking forward to hearing him live on stage.
I'm so so proud to hear singing in my mother tongue and this boy is so talented and his pronunciation is so good and precise that I can close my eyes and dream that these words come from an Italian mouth... As you know, this song is Italian and neapolitan mixed and it's not so easy sing it so good😍🎶❤️❤️❤️! And I can proudly say that because I'm Italian, coming from Naples, Caruso's hometown... ❤️❤️❤️❤️ BIG GREAT VOICE! "😍😍😍😍💖💖💖💖
@@Melsi555 I'll try to explain the sense as good as I can 😅. First of all, this song has been written by Lucio Dalla, one of the best songwriter we have had in Italy. Mr. Lucio wrote this song while he was staying in the same hotel and the same room, where the great Enrico Caruso (the most Italian tenor in the world) stayed, shortly before his death. This Hotel was in Sorrento, in front of the sea, and when Mr. Lucio Dalla looked out from the old terrace of this room (which overlooked the gulf of Sorrento), he felt the strong impetus of putting himself at the piano and playing and, on that occasion, he composed "Caruso", inspired by the context. The "story" talks about a piano/singing teacher and his young pupil who, for some reason, had been crying. He hugs her, declaring he was in love with her; the hug they give each other is "like a chain", strong enough to "melt the blood in the veins". In this landscape of Sorrento, he gets lost in the eyes of this girl, so clear and so sincere that stun him, so much so as to make "everything seem smaller" and vain, including moments of glory experienced on overseas stages (Caruso, was famous and appreciated all over the world). And when he saw the moon coming out from a cloud, admiring this show, even death seems sweeter, standing in front of her eyes and closed in that embrace... I hope this little explanation should make the picture clear 🤗😅.

For all those saying this guy is good but no Pavarotti, remember, he is still very young, his voice will mature with time and he will develop more control over his voice in future - because of this, he has the potential to be the greatest of all!
Having followed Jonathan from BGT, I'm so happy for him. His talent is obvious, but his life history built the passion in his incredible voice. This singer's voice is beautiful but he still lacks a lot of vocal technique and to see if his voice can last for
many years. greetings
The greatest gift of Britain to the world. A heavenly voice the echoes throughout the 4 winds of the earth. The word I think of is majestic

This guy is a superstar!!! Holy crap his voice is just perfect for opera.

This is a romanian speaking, one Who lived in Italy for 4 years. Whoever hasn't seen Italy by now, you should pack up and start your emotions tour. Because that is what Italy is all about, emotions. I Will never forget The places, The People, The culture, The old buildings, The peace under The olive trees, The amazing seas, The soultouching music and incredible food. In one Word, when you say Italy, you say emotions. I have listened over and over Lucio Dalla's version of Caruso back when i was in Italy, and i can say is The perfect song to put on repeat while you're there. This Jonathan guy is remarkable. His voice is extraordinary and i bet he Will be a huge asset for international opera patrimony.
Have you heard Jonathan sing Nessun Dorma, or Dein Ist Mein Ganzes Herz, which he does sing in German, as a tribute to his dear friend Helga. Both are Wonderful.
Gobsmackingly gorgeous! None I've ever heard has matched Jonathan's performance of this heartrending and beautiful song. He's simply the best! ❤
My God, why hasn’t the Metropolitan Opera signed this outstanding tenor yet? I mean, WTF? We’ve all been looking for that next Pavarotti, and Jonathan Antoine is the chosen one! C’mon, Met, sign this guy!
He is no next Pavarotti dumb ass, I mean, he is good, and can be great, but not as great as Pavarotti
@@TonyMontana-lj9mq I think this young tenor has a better voice than Pavarotti, less set and much more harmonic ... try listening to Caruso by Pavarotti, feel how metallic it is ...

This kid is a great talent but he doesnt have the kind of tenor voice Pavarotti had, this kid is great for modern opera
Ioscani Quintero I agree. Pavarotti’s Caruso is way way better
Pavarotti was singing in his native tongue and had 50 years of experience. Jonathan is still at the beginning of his journey and will only improve as time goes on.
At his first audition he says he’s shy. He said he’s always heckled for his size. He is so full of confidence now. As for size, he got the looks of a star. Awesome!
I do worry for his health, though, he needs to take care of himself. He has come so far from that nervous, trembling boy.
I guess his size is related to his extraordinary voice
He did lose quite a lot a few years ago, but he seems to have put even more on now. My concern is purely for his health, I would be so sad if he were to become unwell when he has such potential, and his voice is maturing so beautifully

I have repeatedly shown people his audition on BGT - because the power in his voice always made me shed tears of joy, and since I first saw that audition, I've often wondered whether he went further and pursued his passion. What a joy!! To wake up to this incredible voice & song, even being confined to our homes is more bearable!! Jonathan, you make everything better....
I agree, he is the first thing I listen to in the morning and the last thing at night, he literally keeps me going through these uncertain times.
Beautiful comment regarding Jonathan’s amazing talent, that I know the world will cherish for many years to come!
Caruso did not die from throat cancer!
Caruso did not have throat cancer - he died from complications after an operation to deal with an infection followng on from pleurisy.

Sean,
I feel that you are right on, at Jonathan’s young age I feel that he is better than Pavarotti was in the beginning of his career!
You mention pain, yes - pain lived is part of expression. We live our pain here, in paint and song. On death we depart, returning where pain has never been.
Jonathan has one of those voices that reaches into your very soul. To have that tremondous voice at such a young age who can imagine what can lay ahead of him.💕
In terms of singing technique? nope. Pavarotti in his prime years can make metropolitan theatre shake with his voice.

The sweetness in your voice in the softer parts of this song, followed by the bel canto is beyond perfect.
2021 and I'm crying for the lost of our precious freedom. Jonathan's voice, his emotions and Caruso brought me to tears. This is what my heart feels right now.
Jonathan: you were put on this earth for a reason. You have a god given gift. You give me the chills every time I listen to you which is every day.
The power in your voice is not like any other. Truly, the voice of the century. Bravo, bravo, can't wait to see you perform in person again.

Love this song. But always wanted to know what it was about dont know why but makes me want to cry
Hi, do you know what this song is about?
I'm curious to know the lyrics meaning. I only know it's a beautiful song and makes me sad..

I have always liked opera since I was a child, my grandmother loved this great tenor, Caruso, she told me about Caruso and put her music for me, so that I would know him, I never thought that I would have the privilege of meeting in person a tenor of the stature of Caruso, who is Jonathan Antoine, thank God
So true!!!!!! I feel the same, and that I have lived long enough to hear this young mans beautiful voice, I feel truly blessed.
Lily: You are seriously comparing this guy to Caruso? Ye Gods!
There are singers of opera, and then there is Jonathan Antoine! Jonathan you are in a league of your own!
For all those saying this guy is good but no Pavarotti, remember, he is still very young, his voice will mature with time and he will develop more control over his voice in future - because of this, he has the potential to be the greatest of all!
No lol people are saying he’s better as constructed now not in the future

Jonathon is the operatic voice for all of us that can't stand screechy ones. The smoothness of his singing is a wonder.
Having followed Jonathan from BGT, I'm so happy for him. His talent is obvious, but his life history built the passion in his incredible voice. Without pain, suffering, longing and joy ... there is only natural talent. He's got it all. Complete training through and through. I wish you only the best, dear sweet man with a golden voice and kind soul.
To sound this incredible this young is... incredible!! I'm so excited to see how his voice matures and develops as he gets older. A far cry from that shy singer we saw on bgt all those years ago!
I'm addicted to listening to this guy! Never had much exposure to opera before, but this is fantastic. A new realm of auditory experience has opened up for me and I am loving it!!
He's come a long way since his shaky first audition on BGT. He's sooooo much more nuanced now and this is one of the most beautiful renditions of this piece Ive ever heard by any singer that's ever attempted it.
