The most emotional rendition of this classic.. You nailed it Jonathan and Tina!! Now, with so many dying from the Corona virus this lovely song has more meaning than ever before as there are many "empty tables."
No one is dying from the corona virus, they are dying from other illnesses that have compromised their immune system. In some the virus took advantage of that just like the flu does and they died. They sent a memo/directive telling the hospitals to list covid 19 as #1 cause of death even if they didnt test for it and what really caused them to die as #2.
@@rammer561 tell that to the over 100000 people that have died in the UK. im all for a conspiracy theory but not with something as serious as Corona Virus

I understand that he was teased a lot as a child; making him miserable. But that misery produced the passion reflected in his singing. It was actually a gift. He understands the human condition. Nobody goes through life unscathed.
Watching this at the close of 2020.... and remembering now that there are many more empty chairs at empty tables around the world.... hard for me not to cry.
Thousands of people die every day and millions every year. Some happily and some not so much, but if you constantly think about death and its negative effect then you are bound to be constantly sad. See it as something natural we all are going to share eventually.
@@ilikefishandpotatoes I understand what you are saying in you reply. I just think that it's the sheer number of people who have died over the last year, many needlessly.

I miss my concerts so much. Being able to go out and mix with people without fear, enjoy the atmosphere, a drink at the bar and of course world class music. The psychopaths who have destroyed this have no souls.
I have just accidentally come across this video. I am so delighted to see that the painfully shy boy has turned into such a confident performer. Excellent, Jonathan.
Jonathan performs this song like no one else can, with both power and great delicacy, so much expression. Perfect. He obviously loves this piece as much as it loves his wonderful voice.
You clearly have never heard Michael Ball...10th Anniversary of Les Mis'...try it them re-think this statement of yours. Jonathan is fun to watch and rout for but he his dreadfully out of key and doesn't have the range or projection to carry this song meaningfully.
There's a grief that can't be spoken, There's a pain goes on and on. Empty chairs at empty tables, Now my friends are dead and gone. Here they talked of revolution, Here it was they lit the flame, Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came. From the table in the corner, They could see a world reborn, And they rose with voices ringing, And I can hear them now The very words that they have sung Became their last communion On this lonely barricade, at dawn. Oh my friends, my friends forgive me That I live and you are gone There's a grief that can't be spoken, And there's a pain goes on and on Phantom faces at the window, Phantom shadows on the floor, Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more. Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me What your sacrifice was for Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friend will sing no more.
This is by far the best performance of this song that I have ever heard. The combination of Jonathan's astounding vocals and the superb playing od Tina Guo is just magical. This performance sets the bar so high that I doubt it will ever be surpassed.
I was at the LIVE Concert and the roller coaster of emotions that this Young Tenor took us over with such a variety of genres was extraordinary - ending with a version of Nessun Dorma that was astounding! A Classical Voice to be reckoned with & still so young for a Classical Tenor -

The most emotional rendition of this classic.. You nailed it Jonathan and Tina!! Now, with so many dying from the Corona virus this lovely song has more meaning than ever before as there are many "empty tables."
BRAVA>>>> well said!
No one is dying from the corona virus, they are dying from other illnesses that have compromised their immune system. In some the virus took advantage of that just like the flu does and they died. They sent a memo/directive telling the hospitals to list covid 19 as #1 cause of death even if they didnt test for it and what really caused them to die as #2.
rammer561 go back in your cave and put your tinfoil hat on. We will get you when we need a skeptic. Now isn’t the time.
Too many empty tables and chairs. I feel sad every time I see them 😢
@@rammer561 tell that to the over 100000 people that have died in the UK. im all for a conspiracy theory but not with something as serious as Corona Virus
by far, by FAR the best rendition of this piece.
The first opera singer since Pavarotti that brought me to tears with the soul sweetness of his voice.
World class vocals, world class cello. What a sumptuous feast to my ears.
Newest Music Video, Jonathan singing "Io Si/Seen" per Grammy award winning composer Diane Warren's request! He sings the harmonies too. BEAUTIFUL!!! It debuted at #1 on itunes Classical Chart.
This boy sings with his heart and soul. His voice is angelical.
I understand that he was teased a lot as a child; making him miserable. But that misery produced the passion reflected in his singing. It was actually a gift. He understands the human condition. Nobody goes through life unscathed.
The kids that bullied him are selling fish and chips.
It wasn’t the misery that produced the passion. It was his strength, his will, his heart. He took what had happened to him and turned it into art
So much emotion. He gets what the song is about he's not just singing it.
Death is totally normal as much as birth is normal this is Mother Nature , I know it’s sad but it is normal.
It's okay to be sad and show empathy for the 2 million people who died in 2020 around the world.
That is being a human being, don't listen to anyone trying to miminize your humanity.
I miss my concerts so much. Being able to go out and mix with people without fear, enjoy the atmosphere, a drink at the bar and of course world class music. The psychopaths who have destroyed this have no souls.
His voice, taking in the lyrics, and the haunting, beautiful chello just brought me to tears. So moving.
@@glennandrews7689 facts. nothing tops the 10th anniversary
So very touching and beautiful! She is great too. 😊
Absolutely incredible. Brought me to tears.
Are you a fan of les mis ? If so i am even more of a fan
Yo what’s up Psych 👋 cool seeing you here
😢
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
There's a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables,
Now my friends are dead and gone.
Here they talked of revolution,
Here it was they lit the flame,
Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came.
From the table in the corner,
They could see a world reborn,
And they rose with voices ringing,
And I can hear them now
The very words that they have sung
Became their last communion
On this lonely barricade, at dawn.
Oh my friends, my friends forgive me
That I live and you are gone
There's a grief that can't be spoken,
And there's a pain goes on and on
Phantom faces at the window,
Phantom shadows on the floor,
Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends don't ask me
What your sacrifice was for
Empty chairs at empty tables
Where my friend will sing no more.
Nancy Marisela Thank You!

An absolutely incredible performer, one I would not hesitate to see live if he came to a stage near me :)
This is by far the best performance of this song that I have ever heard. The combination of Jonathan's astounding vocals and the superb playing od Tina Guo is just magical. This performance sets the bar so high that I doubt it will ever be surpassed.
New Music Video, Jonathan singing "lo Si/Seen" per Diane Warren's request! BEAUTIFUL!!!
I was at the LIVE Concert and the roller coaster of emotions that this Young Tenor took us over with such a variety of genres was extraordinary - ending with a version of Nessun Dorma that was astounding! A Classical Voice to be reckoned with & still so young for a Classical Tenor -
a great pairing for a duet of ND would be with Johnathan and Amira. Someone did up a video duet between Amira and Charlotte but J & A would be quite something to behold. Both are outstanding in their own rights.
Havent yet found a video of Jonathan singing Nessun Dorma and hes currently only touring in the US..... very sad :(
@@Vlozh His US tour is scheduled for late September thru October, but with COVID-19 who knows if they can actually happen. Jonathan has said that after the US concerts, where many tickets were sold during his PBS specials with all proceeds going to PBS stations across the US, that there will be a UK tour also. Jonathan has said he'd love to concerts all over the world.
Vlosh Go on Facebook there’s a video of him in a recording booth singing this aria. Nessun Dorma. I have this film off the news feed on Facebook, just type Jonathan Antoine in the search. His hair dresser recorded this on to her phone.
This is just so beautiful his voice is unbelevable the best I have heard this song sung ❤
The best rendition I have heard so far, of that lovely song! The cellist's accompaniment was out of this world!
Just stunning. The emotion of your voice and melancholy of the cello just compliment each other so well. Such a powerful rendition. Thank you Jonathan.
World class!!! 👍
A fair few years ago now, I was fortunate enough to be doing a poppy appeal in London Victoria Street station when Mr Antoine walked in. I rushed up to him and quite embarrassingly proceeded to tell him how ''f**king awesome'' he was. I partially regret it due to my use of profanity...but the sentiment remains.
Jonathan, if you per chance remember that encounter, I would like to re-affirm my belief that you are indeed, f**king awesome, brother.
Wow, what an exquisite performance by these two (and the orchestra). Definitely will be adding this to my 'listen-as-often-as-possible' list.
A beautiful and emotional rendition from one of the greatest voices of our time. 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️

@@ursmue1937 Oh my, you need to listen to other voices. He's ok, but nothing compared to great singers.
@@jjaus We flew to Toronto for Jonathans sold out concerts, people came from as far away as UK. Europe and even Australia to attend. He sounds even better live. His encore was Nessun Dorma! It's on his latest CD Going the Distance.

terrific all round, can't see that being topped......
He's come a long ways from the quiet, shy young man who crossed the stage of America's got talent.
It was Britain's got talent ,and was with Charlotte .

Larry Sheets whatever the semantics, the fact remains, your statement was and is incorrect.
How very appropriate for this time , and so sensitively rendered . Bravo Jonathan , you pulled out all the stops . K
Listen to "Compass" and"Country Roads" both filmed from the same sold out Toronto concerts and Both Very Appropriate for these difficult times. They are here on RUclips, and wait till you hear Jonathans version of Nessun Dorma!
Listening to it during what mas as well be another civil rights revolution just makes it hit even harder
Beautiful.
I believe that Jonathan would not be singing with this amount of depth and intensity of emotion had it not been for his experiences with life’s challenges and difficulties. No bitterness at all. Just humble sensitivity.
To be classified as one of the best performances of all time.
voice. So very talented and from an extremely young. I've kept up every way and he even gets better and better. If you can believe that. I just love listening to his voice.
Beautiful Johnathan, you're a Star, thank you for sharing your amazing voice with the world. Thanks for going on AGT✨
This lovely guy with such a lovely voice. Hard to believe he walked on stage, almost overcome with shyness to Britain’s got Talent
Does not appear to be shy anymore. Most impressed with the intro and his reaction at completion of this fine piece of excellent singing and expression of his art. Most enjoyable.
@@phlotographer Have you seen his intro for Amor Ti Vieta, also filmed at these sold out concerts for PBS? It was great. If you haven't heard him sing Compass or Country Roads at these concerts, they're all here on RUclips. He sang Nessun Dorma for his encore! Stunning! On his new "Going The Distance"CD.
@@carljacobson8342 Carl -- I am working on various pieces now on YT as I have not seen the PBS concerts. I have learned that he was in Toronto but somehow I missed seeing anything about the concert or we certainly would have attended as we live in the GTA. I would love to hear him and Amira do Nessun Dorma as a duet. One thing I really love about YT is the number of great musicians etc that one can view and likely would never know about in the past without such a venue for showcasing their talents.

Les Miserable has some of the most emotional songs I've ever experienced... I love your voice Mr. Johnathan! You can sing Les Mis like no other... Just so beautiful!!!😍

Hello 👋 how are you doing?
I love the movie version, but this is simply astonishing. Hats off to the whole squad.
A beautiful song, sung by a beautiful soul for all of us who have empty chairs at our family tables
While I am not a huge fan of opera, I've always enjoyed Luciano Pavarotti. So when he passed away I was sad because his unique voice was now gone (aside from recordings obviously).
Then I saw Jonathan and Charlotte on BGT and was so blown away by how much his voice reminded me of Pavarotti. I enjoy listening to Jonathan sing and imo he fills the void that was left by Pavarotti's passing.
This song just shows versitile Jonathan is.
Keep on, keeping on good sir! Thank you for blessing everyone with your voice.
I had never heard of JA until coincidence had it the title of this beautiful opera ( popped up on yourube) titled empty Chairs, around empty tables, made me think of my mother, when we all lost my little sister. Mother would say many years ago, in the 60s - there are empty chairs, around empty tables. This thought came back to me at the sad loss of our Queen Elizabeth 11 .
Of whom will be sadly missed. 😥
His talent is overwhelming. He’s the first person I’ve seen get up on a stage and bring enough righteous skill to stand on a thousand stages. I love how he has grown since Agt. I can’t wait to see more of him.
Do you mean rightful?
@@janel342 nah, I’m using the US informal meaning: “very good; excellent”. Thanks tho. :)
At one time Johnathan Antoine was just an unknown auditioner on BGT, then he blew the judges away, and now other famous people can say what an honor it is to be on stage with Johnathan!!!
He sings this song beautifully
If the cello is like a voice, this 'duet' is sublimely beautiful
Best opera voice I have heard in all my 61 years old.
First time I've ever heard this song.......BRILLIANT!!!
The BEST version of this song I've seen on RUclips. From the controlled and outstanding performance from Jonathan, to Tina's stunning playing, this beats the rest hands down. Bravo
Yes this is the very BEST rendition of this song from Les Miserables I have heard, I cannot wait to listen to it again and again. Thank you Jonathan you are amazing.
As good as this definitely is, it has to be Eddie Redmayne for me because you feel he has indeed just lost his friends.
@@suzanba7 stage and film are two very different things. I agree that Eddie Redmayne's version is amazing though. My statement was more aimed towards stage performances..
IDK, it ties with Ramin Karimloo and Eddie Redmayne for me.
This is one of my absolutley favorite all time performances...such a haunting and sad song and both Jonathan and the Cello solo was so heartbreaking you could feel the pain as they sang it
what an Angelic voice ❤
His beautiful voice, his confidence, the emotion this young lady puts into her playing cello. And the piano. Absolutely beautiful!
Jonathan.... your vocals literally pulled tears from my eyes. Your just such a talented young man with an old soul. Never quit singing my friend...
Jonathan you're amazing!!! The cellist is brilliant!
Cellist was cosmic!!! Johnathan is what opera is about! Paul Pots sings opera...but he is not opera! Johnathan is truly an opera star!
