How to Factory Reset Chromebook - Powerwash Without a Password

- How to factory reset a Chromebook? In this tutorial, I show you how to factory reset and powerwash your Chromebook. This works whether you remember your password or not. This can be very helpful if you need to restore your Chromebook back to the default settings and completely delete all of your user data. This is especially helpful if you need to wipe your Chromebook before reselling it. In this video, I cover two different factory reset methods: how to reset your Chromebook without a password and how to reset your Chromebook while logged in.

Note: a factory reset will delete all user data on your device. If there are any other users that share the Chromebook, their information will also be deleted.
How to factory reset your Chromebook without a password:
1. Turn on your Chromebook.
2. From the log-in screen, hold down Shift + Ctrl + Alt + R. This should open a new menu that says Reset this device. From here, select Powerwash and Revert, and then select Continue to confirm.
Note: a factory reset will delete all user data on your device. If there are any other users that share the Chromebook, their information will also be deleted.
How to Factory Reset your Chromebook while you are logged in:
1. Turn on your Chromebook and log in.
2. Select the Clock icon in the bottom left-hand corner, and then select the Gear icon to open the settings.
3. Within Settings, search Powerwash in the Search Apps cursor. Once it loads, select the arrow beside Powerwash. Select Restart to confirm.
4. After the Chromebook restarts, you should see a screen displaying Reset this Chrome device. Select Powerwash and then Continue to confirm.

I did this on my school computer and it made the school the moderator/administrator on the computer without being on the school wifi. Is there any way to fix that?

What if, after I powerwashed my chromebook. . . rather than giving me the startup menu when i first purchased, it gives me a blank blue screen? The screen has power, but completely blank?
I don’t know if your still having this problem but my chrome book did this so I just had to leave it alone and not mess with for a while then it started working

@Gauging, thank you so very much. My chrome book was a gift and I forgot to write down my password. That was pretty painless, mostly because I had nothing on the thing. Just locked out. Lol again thank you. I am going to try and use it to build a RUclips channel.

If I have accounts logged on this chrome book that are also logged on other devices will they still be ok?
The problem I'm having is different. After the power wash I did, it keeps rejecting a new password, telling me I'm not connected, when I'm, really am connected to a internet, and so on🤔💭 its pretty frustrating. I on the other hand had to with no choice. Because my Chromebook always kept blanking out every single time you either touch it in a certain spot, could be a chance that it's a factory fault but you can't do much besides try a power wash and see if it works,☹️, and it always wants to shut down for no reason at all, or that little square box wood shut you down automatically, so that's kind of the reason why I had to power wash whether I liked it or not, but now I'm having the problem with trying to sign into a brand new account as a fresh one, and it won't work no matter what I try & do it just will not let me🤷🏻♂️sign in, any help would be appreciated 😔Cheers✌🏼.

I have questions, Please do answer them:
1. I signed in my gmail using my chromebook (like I created my gmail using this chromebook by signing in) will powerwash delete *everything* in my account?
2. Will it delete my Google Photos.
3. Will it delete my bookmarks.
4. Will it sign me out of everything I logged in to? (Example: RUclips etc)

No, those are saved in your Google account and will sync once you log back into your account.

I've set up my mother with a new Chromebook. I want to keep her hand-me-down. If I powerwash the older Chromebook and set up an account for myself (as the owner), can I be certain none of her files or settings on her new Chromebook will be affected?
You should back up her pictures and or files to cloud or google photos first I don't know about the settings but the files he said would be deleted so you should back it up first.

I've done the factory reset, but first, the original problem is my husband went to close out the program by pushing the ex button, with that the browser blew up my home page blew up, everything i open wether the brower or home pages were all at 100% thier normal sizes. I accidentally changed mine to korean and my Chrome shut off and when intuit on it went to the log in but my password had to be in korean but I don't have the korean keyboard so I couldn't log in....hope this works . Thanks
