    Tip for my wavy girls: from my experience, flipping my hair back-and-forth, as always made it quite stringy. If you’d like thicker waves, I’d suggest diffusing by leaving your hair parted on either side and style that way.

  • @anam713

    For wavies out there watching this video, I suggest trying "micro plopping" if regular plopping is giving you wonky clumps. Micro plopping takes out excess water and product without the worry of strange looking waves or curls from sitting in a weird position on the top of your head. It really does make a huge difference!

    Amanda's hair is INCREDIBLE in this video. I think that's actually her best wash day I have seen in all the videos. I also love how Tiffany loves and embraces her waves rather than be frustrated that they are not "curlier". I often see too many wavies get frustrated with their texture that it isn't curly or clumpy enough rather than just enjoying their own beautiful texture.

    • @vaskylark
      @vaskylark Год назад

      I don't think wavy girls do that do they? I'm a wavy/curly girl and my problem is I can't make my hair all it should be and could be, mainly because I don't have brushes and clips to get some volume so I end up with waves and curls that just hang there and go BLAH and that is frustrating. I can't get a brush through my hair when wet at all so I usually brush when dry before i wash and then end up with messy, frizzy curls and waves. It's all frustrating. On rare occasion I do brave the brush I end up with stretched out curls that suck so I'm stuck with this until I can get my color treated hair healthier. After one use of Olaplex 3 I was astounded how much curlier my hair really is to where I wasn't a 2b/2c anymore but 2c/3a with actual spirals when normally my hair looks like I used a crimping iron on it so I think I'm actually much more curly than wavy but the damage is severe and it's a work in progress. I'm kind of curious to see what will happen if I get my hair healthy, whatever the outcome is I want it to look healthy and shiny/bouncy not frizzy and dry.

      @@vaskylark Nah as a wavy haired woman I can definitely say I wish my hair was more curly. I very often try to get "more" out of my hair. But well its wavy and not curly so it's not gonna happen unless I get a perm.

      I love that what I thought was a 'kink' in my hair has turned out to be wavy hair. It looked stupid when it was long and I was styling it straight, then I had ut short. Now it's shoulder length and I've discovered the wave, and I'm really happy with it! It's never looked so good, and I'm embracing it.

  • @Kiputytto_minis
    @Kiputytto_minis 3 года назад +123

    Growing up I hated my hair. I dry brushed my wavy hair because that's what I was told to do. I ended up putting my hair up so much I'm thinning on my temples. It wasn't until I cut it shoulder length that I realized I have beautiful waves.
    When I first started researching I always felt left out because I don't have really coarse, curly hair. A good friend of mine helped me come up with a routine for my waves but she also pointed me to your channel. I just wanted to say thank you for being inclusive to all hair types.
    I've been using light hold mouse but I think I want to try gel since I've noticed the mouse makes me feel a little crunchy. I've also wanted to try a diffuser and this has convinced me.

    • @disneyknitter9189
      @disneyknitter9189 3 года назад +3

      Do you scrunch out the crunch? Everyone is different obviously, but I think most people notice more crunchiness with gel than mousse. But in any case, it can often be remedied with SOTC. I either use gel, or mousse and gel together.

    • @Kiputytto_minis
      @Kiputytto_minis 3 года назад +1

      @@disneyknitter9189 Yeah, I let the mousse sit and then I'll run my fingers through it gently to break the seal. Also forgot to mention if you have a looser wave pattern e.g. 2A, I have heard that damp styling works better than soaking wet styling because the weight of the water can stretch out waves. In this case start drying your hair however works best for you then once your hair is damp rather than wet, apply small amounts of gel (because damp hair has less water in it and thus requires less product) evenly all over (rope or prayer hands works for this) and then scrunch it in. Then do a resting diffuse (lean head on a towel covered mattress and kneel with something to support your knees then hover diffuse roots before pixie diffusing the ends. The resting diffuse is another way to prevent water weighing down and stretching out waves. Note that damp styling means thinner wave clumps. If big clumps are your jam then you can apply a hard hold gel to wet (not dripping) hair instead. A soft to medium/hold gel will not work as well for wet styling, for looser wave patterns you want to really lock them into place.

    You have truly made this a place where anyone with some kind of wave, curl, or coil is welcome. I’ve never seen that anywhere else. My favorite styling technique is more mental. It’s reminding myself to celebrate my unique appearance. I was never taught to dislike my hair or appearance, it just wasn’t something that felt okay to celebrate. You do that here!!
    Do you have any advice? After 8 months (covid) I’m finally going to the salon in 3 days. I’m doing what I swore I never would do again, get bangs! 😱 But want to style them curly. I’ve never done that, but your finger coiling helps give me confidence. I think you were the first person with similar texture to me who I’ve seen with curly bangs. I used to encourage what curl I had back then on the rest of my hair, but try to flat iron my bangs into submission, which never worked. It’s been years since I had bangs. My hair used to be just a light wave, but it keeps getting curlier regardless of cut or styling methods & I’m thrilled. (Aside from the covid damage). I know my waves will return to curls when I get my major cut. The curls just make me feel like myself. My stylist is a friend & we work well together. I’m just nervous for bangs! I have pics for her, but I’d welcome any advice.
    Thanks Mell & Amanda for all the hard work. Tiffany, you look amazing & it was so fun to see you in this week’s video. I hope we see more of you!💜

      I got the bangs & the entire cut. This is way new to me & I love it. I just changed my profile pic to it. I know my hair freaks out when it’s first so it still needs a week or 2 to settle in.

Has she ever tried skipping the plopping step and just air drying for a bit before diffusing? Or moving from styling directly to diffusing so her hair stays upside down until its fully dry?

      Plopping messing up my waves. I use a t-shirt and scrunch and pulse with that instead works so much better

      Plopping screws up my hair as well. I diffuse straight from wet. My hair is curlier than the wavy girls, but not as curly as the others.

    • @imyourhappydrug
      @imyourhappydrug 3 года назад +46

      Plopping works better for long hair with tighter waves, some of my looser wavy friends can't plop successfully but I love it, can do it for an hour without getting wonky waves. I also do a "resting diffuse" where I rest my head on a towel covered mattress and kneel on a cushion/some clothes while I hover diffuse the roots so the water in the lengths doesn't weight my hair down. I then pixie diffuse the lengths once the roots are dry. Works a treat on my long hair to avoid the stretched out waves at the top and tighter ends. This way the waves are a lot more even all the way down.

    I loved watching this routine comparison! I’m a wavy too, Tiffany! My hair ranges from 2b to a few little areas of 3a so it can be super frustrating styling my hair because it looks different-my front/upper layer is a looser pattern than the under and back part.
    I loved the tip on adding more product after plopping, I think I get frizz when diffusing because some of the product is gone.
    Styling on soaking wet hair has been a game changer though!
    Please do more of these videos for wavies! We have our girls out there, but they are much harder to find.

    Thank you so much for this video! I have wavy, fine hair. Your previous videos have helped SO much in knowing the products I need to use and how to defuse my hair. But I still was feeling frustrated not getting the results I wanted. THIS VIDEO IS A GAME CHANGER for wavy hair! Removing the rows from my Denman brush has helped so much, I didn’t know you could do that. And I followed EXACTLY what your cousin did and my hair has turned out the best it’s ever been! Usually it’s really wavy in the front, straight and frizzy in the back, and dry ends. So I would always I have to pin it back. Now it’s evenly wavy everywhere and I’ve started wearing it down. It looks so much healthier and moisturized. So ya the two main differences for me is making sure is DRIPPING wet in the prep phase. And then removing the bristles and brushing a little upside down, scrunching, then wrapping in a microfiber before defusing. THANK YOU!

    As a person with hair in-between wavy and curly and also with fine texture vs course I have found that the best method is the least invasive. I use praying hands to distribute product and then what I call "paddle hands" to push the hair up to my scalp and then straight back down again. No fingers! No brush! Let the curls exist with the friends they naturally gravitate towards when soaking wet. Then I use a t-shirt over my paddle hands to get some water out as plopping seems to make my fine hair set wonky. The one issue I have is that my roots are not as bouncy as they could be... perhaps I'll try very light scrunching or a Denman but only on my crown/mohawk section like Amanda did...

    I love that you're making videos for wavy hair aswell! I feel like theres still a lot of misconceptions when it comes to waves and their needs. Also, when I started wearing my waves, they were even more underrepresented than today and I sometimes felt like my hair wasn't enough, watching wavy hair youtuber really helped me though!
    Also that part when Tiffany scrunched for minutes was soooo relatable😂
    And with her Texture I think she might like microplopping a little more than regular plopping (it works better for me)
