I've had my first chameleon for about 3 weeks now and I have to say this has been one of the biggest learning curves I've ever had with an animal. I thought I had the enclosure ready. I had so many adjustments I had to do to get it just right. This has been such a good help, along with the Chameleon Academy/ Bill Strand! Thank you for videos like this. I'm not a person that can read a care sheet and get it. I need visual!

I live in Mauritius, an island not far from Madagascar and we are used to see lots of different chameleons in the wild and I just recently got a female panther one which I am really fond of. She is about 6 months old now and I would like to know something, should we get the same setup like you showed in some of your videos? We have nearly the same temperature as Madagascar, so I was wondering maybe we already had the right environment for them to live. I am getting her a quite huge screen cage soon that I will leave outside during the day and keep her in my room at night in a smaller one, only for her to sleep, is this ok? Thank you very much for your videos it is really helping.

I really appreciate the info and the way you organized it! Is reptisafe harmful for chameleons? or just unnecessary as long as the water is otherwise safe?
I recently bought a reptile fogger and a reptile rain mister for my open cage enclosure for my veiled chameleon my question is do I need both systems ?
Ive got an infestation of white mites. Is this harmful to my chameleon or just a nuisance to me? How do i get rid of them without demolishing the set up, it is a bioactive setup and i have a veiled chameleon. During the winter the heat kept his humidity low so i ran the fogger a lot at night and the soil stayed moist but not wet, lately between the fogger and watering its caused a 1/4 inch of water to collect in the area with the clay balls.
I was given a panther chameleon.! But I notice he’s right eye is close and won’t open it. Left eye is open and moving around any help or advice on to rehab him.
You are amazing with all this info. Thank you for sharing it. I'm planning my setup at the moment. Everything I thought I was going to do is completely wrong. Thank you!

Such great information! I’m taking care of one and the instructions they gave us is to go every other day, alternate the lights (red and white) and feed. My concern is, the lights are on even at night, there’s no mister only a humidifier we turn on every visit and no real plants. And the food count seems to be the same every time we go. Any advice would be appreciated.
Sounds like the owners need to do some additional research and learning. To answer your questions: Red lights should not be used for chameleons. All lights should be off at night. Humidifiers should really only be used at night but like the video mentions, this is dependent on the natural humidity of where you live. The number of bugs you feed a chameleon depends on their age. Babies are fed daily, and adults should be fed 3-4 bugs every 2-3 days.

Your video has some counterintuitive discrepancies. In the beginning you urge a day time humidity of 50-60 percent. But later you also talk about this new daytime “hot and dry” concept and urge people to neglect an afternoon misting session. Saying we should only mist just prior lights on and then just prior to bed. Leaving a 12 hour daytime window at ambient household humidity (30-45%). Usually an enclosure will dry out and reach ambient humidity within an hour of misting leaving an 11 hour period during the day that can be as low as 30% in an average household depending on the climate you live in. That counters the 50-60% daytime humidity you claim in the beginning.
In that case you'd want to find other ways to increase your daytime humidity besides misting. My daytime humidity sits around 50-60% which is what is needed for the species I own. If you need help coming up with ways to increase humidity during the day, here is my video on that: ruclips.net/video/kNhWocyfJAo/видео.html
I watch most ur videos. And watch other videos. BUT I still don't understand the cage. I guess consider me learning handicap. I've raised snakes, lizards and turtles. But nothing tropical. If I can talk 1 on 1 would help me save My rescue. Can u help?
What!? 😂 in Florida we have wild chameleons living all over south Florida… they thrive here. If you’re in Florida - keep your chameleon outside & free range like I do and they will be happy. In drier climate keep chameleon 100% humidity at night… 70% is not enough -hence why they veiled in this video is lacking color on his face 😞
Outdoor keeping is the way to go! But lots of places aren’t suitable for keeping chams outside. And while 100% humidity is the goal, it’s not always realistic for indoor keepers. (Also that veiled chameleon isn’t mine 😅)
I need a little help I’m a new owner and she is exploring finally it’s only been a couple days but she hasn’t made her way to the bottom for water. I do spray and stuff I just don’t know like when they are dehydrated and what to look for. We have a brute filter also need to know if that’s ok. Mainly JW if she will find her water at the bottom eventually lol I worry she’s not getting what she needs. Also using 50 watt bulb and 12 hours with that and then we cut it off at bed is that normal too? One more thing is the temp in my apt gonna be a huge issue I keep it around 72 or 73 plus she has the heat Lamp just wanna make sure that’s cool
As mentioned in the video, chameleons don’t often drink standing water so I would mist her 2x a day as recommended. I’d also encourage you to watch my care guide videos. Here is the one for veileds: ruclips.net/video/IC9YALNYrqQ/видео.htmlsi=0RzmmQS2KPsmojlO and here is the one for panthers: ruclips.net/video/bxJO7F7I5bU/видео.htmlsi=Cf_xR1oVBehhaPg3
I just bought some window wrap film that shrinks with heat to trap in humidity for my 4’ cage! Misters are my next purchase Slowly but surely getting the full build up
Yes those work great!! Be sure to take advantage of my shopping lists and discounts on my website while you set up your enclosure: www.neptunethechameleon.com/
If used incorrectly, just like with lots of things, then issues can arise. Foggers are recommended to be used during the evenings to raise the nigh time humidity levels. It is not advised to use a fogger during the day.
Hi I been watching your vids I have a dripper I out ice cubes on top of my screen cage I covered 2 sides with shower curtain got a mistking I mist 4 min b4 lights on mist 3am for 1 min and mist 2 min b4 lights out but my 6 minth old panther skittlez his urate is tan to orangy his eyes ate nice and round not suken in at all ..wht else can I do for hydration?should I be worried?thanks
As long as my humidity levels are good, I’m ok using a glass enclosure? I hear differing opinions all over the place, but most tell me they’re death traps.
That part of the equation! Then you also need to make sure there is sufficient air flow. I have videos on the different enclosure types and this page on my website that should help put your worries to rest: www.neptunethechameleon.com/picking-an-enclosure
Just got a little guy yesterday with a chameleon kit, was wondering if anyone with some knowledge could possibly reach out and help me improve his habitat? I feel as if I have the bare minimum right now and would appreciate the help!
Congrats on your new chameleon! Luckily you’re in the right place to get some help :) Unfortunately the chameleon kit cage is too small for a chameleon, comes with the incorrect UVB bulb, etc. It’s nicknamed the “death kit” in the chameleon community. I do have this awesome video on how to properly set up a chameleon cage that should help get you started: ruclips.net/video/n2H-VubFs3A/видео.html
Why do you say spray before lights are on and after their off when in the video your misting system is going when the lights are on ? I get the respiratory issues you pointed out but I keep getting conflicting reports on that subject.. I know the plants with get burnt leaves with lights on but I’m just confused
i wish i had more chameleon friends im always trying to find new info but im somewhat new to chameleons but take it pretty seriously and try to keep them happy and healthy but its hard to be confident when i dont know anyone with actual experience owning them
This video will walk you through step by step on how to build a cage correctly. It even has Amazon product links in the description box of the video. ruclips.net/video/n2H-VubFs3A/видео.html
What’s the Brita Filter that you used and how often do you change the filter? I’d like to change to this asap since it’s seem better than my current option 😅
It was just a standard Brita pitcher. But nowadays I have a separate filtered water system built into the sink of my home so that’s what I’ve been using.
You mention for the fogger to be 30 min on then 30 min off at night. Is that on and off continuously throughout the night, or is that 30 min. for one time at night?
How long your fogger goes on/off is VERY dependent on the natural humidity of where you live. Someone who lives in a dry climate will need a fogger for longer periods of time than someone who lives somewhere humid who might not even need a fogger to achieve the nighttime humidity levels.
So, my wife and I decided that we wanted to purchase a panther chameleon and build a furniture quality enclosure for him. Obviously, research comes before the enclosure build and the enclosure comes *BEFORE* the animal. We aren't rich by any means but, we would be able to afford top of the line accessories for the enclosure and build it any way we want (with the chameleon's needs before our aesthetic preference). I'm sad to say, after tons of research, that we will not be building an enclosure or purchasing a chameleon since there is really no way to mitigate water escaping onto the walls while providing the proper ventilation as well as maintaining the "furniture quality" appearance of the enclosure. It's a little sad since I've wanted a panther chameleon since I was a kid, but I'm not willing to sacrifice his quality of life to keep water off the walls. It's a shame because he would have had a great life but, sometimes providing the best thing for an animal is *NOT* purchasing the animal in the first place.
Some chams have different bug preferences but I'd first make sure the hornworms aren't too big for your chameleon. I've heard of some chams not liking them when they were still babies but liked them once they grew up and were big enough to eat the hornworms.
Im just starting to research chameleon care before I buy one. I just wanted to let you know your video was packed FULL of very helpful information. I was immediately going to get a waterfall and Im glad you touched on that and how its not at all beneficial.

My veiled chameleon is outside in a fully screened cage, porch is also screened. But Florida is usually 70-78% humidity and usually 80-85 degrees out. Is it to hot out for him? He does have shade from live plants on his cage. I had him in the house the first two weeks but my apartment is dark I felt like he didn’t have enough light or warmth (inside is between 70-75. He seemed to want to come out to go outside for sun. He was going to the bottom of the cage for three days and screen walking until I moved the cage outside. Haven’t seen him do it since so far.

Who do you feel about using Repti Rain for a veil chameleon. I currently have a Beardie, but I've been looking into veil chameleons I've always wanted one.
The Repti Rain doesn't let you customize the mist times to the ones you need for a chameleon. I'd highly recommend the MistKing: joshsfrogs.com/sp/mistking-starter-misting-system-version-5-0-free-shipping-mksms512550

Congrats on the new chameleon! All lights should be off at night including her UVB bulb. I’d suggest having both bulbs on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours. Good luck!

They do. But chameleons change colors based on mood, temperatures, mating, etc. And they only get lighter or darker in color. A green chameleon won't magically turn purple or try to camouflage... that's a myth!

As mentioned, it depends what species you’re keeping. Screen is the most common recommendation.

I live in Houston, my household humidity is 50-60% in the summer and doesn't dip below 40% even in the winter. So, yeah, depends
your videos rock!! So much quality info!
Thank you!!
I watch most ur videos. And watch other videos. BUT I still don't understand the cage. I guess consider me learning handicap. I've raised snakes, lizards and turtles. But nothing tropical. If I can talk 1 on 1 would help me save My rescue. Can u help?
What species do you have? I do offer video calls: www.neptunethechameleon.com/book-a-call and www.chameleonforums.com/ is a great resource!
I enjoyed watching your video. Thank You. (UK)
Thank you very much!
Misters are my next purchase
Slowly but surely getting the full build up
Yes those work great!! Be sure to take advantage of my shopping lists and discounts on my website while you set up your enclosure: www.neptunethechameleon.com/
Ive had mine since friday and its not poo yet
Hi, I have a question. Are foggers bad for chameleon’s health? I was told that it gives them respiratory infections.
As long as it's not more than 50% orange, then he's okay!
Which plants do you recommend? Isn’t the fertilizer toxic for the chameleon?
Here is my playlist on plant videos that should help: ruclips.net/video/LC2HFunvV9M/видео.html
Mine drinks water out of a dish !
I do have this awesome video on how to properly set up a chameleon cage that should help get you started: ruclips.net/video/n2H-VubFs3A/видео.html
can I have cameleons in the enclosure?>
Why do you say spray before lights are on and after their off when in the video your misting system is going when the lights are on ? I get the respiratory issues you pointed out but I keep getting conflicting reports on that subject.. I know the plants with get burnt leaves with lights on but I’m just confused
I did that so you can see what the misters look like. It’s really hard to see the mist on video without any lights on.
i wish i had more chameleon friends im always trying to find new info but im somewhat new to chameleons but take it pretty seriously and try to keep them happy and healthy but its hard to be confident when i dont know anyone with actual experience owning them
Try finding some local reptile Facebook pages or reptile expos!
So my panther how many times a day shall i do it?
The water drips down, where is your water being collected? Is there something you have at the bottom collecting water?

Hey there the the video .hey question I just got a Veiled chameleon and I have a 5.0 uvb light what all do I need when it's water and fogger and light
I have been needing this, I have a chameleon and his water schedule is ok but not great. This will be a lifesaver!!
Hope it answers all of your questions!!
So I had to use a glass enclosure because were I live it’s winter I couldn’t hold heat or humidity
That's totally fine. Just make sure the enclosure is big enough -- should be around 24x24x48".
Just had someone drop off 2 chameleons by door without me wanting them but imma raise them because they are babies
I replied to your other comments, I wish you the best of luck!
Can you give some advice or make a video on what to do if your chameleon is losing its appetite
I'm having to feed by hand every day
ruclips.net/video/waCeIkQE1hw/видео.html
You mention for the fogger to be 30 min on then 30 min off at night. Is that on and off continuously throughout the night, or is that 30 min. for one time at night?
How long your fogger goes on/off is VERY dependent on the natural humidity of where you live. Someone who lives in a dry climate will need a fogger for longer periods of time than someone who lives somewhere humid who might not even need a fogger to achieve the nighttime humidity levels.
Shall i do it when it sleeps
Hi I’m living in the Netherlands could you take a look on my enclosure ¿.
Feel free to DM me on Instagram pics of your enclosure.
How do you get them to eat hornworms? My Sal won't eat them, but he likes wax worms.
Glad it was helpful! I would check out my top 5 videos for new keepers playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLBkCuo7YecLbG_MB7ogFmcoWP2GUXDIGJ and here is my video on how to prepare for a chameleon: ruclips.net/video/pyNbczMEfXA/видео.html
@@NeptunetheChameleon thank you. Your so sweet to be helpful to new keepers 🙂
i have this this block i had to soak in water and fill the bottom of my tank with with is this good for absorbing water or do i still need to make some kind of drain system
I'm not sure what you mean by "block" so it's hard for me to say.
My chameleon drinks water straight out of a dish!
Not common, but not unheard of :)
Noted got rid of my bark jungle vines plastic plants and soon to be my uvb compact bulb I hop
Sounds like you’re making great changes!
@@NeptunetheChameleon yay
My veiled chameleon is outside in a fully screened cage, porch is also screened. But Florida is usually 70-78% humidity and usually 80-85 degrees out. Is it to hot out for him? He does have shade from live plants on his cage.
I had him in the house the first two weeks but my apartment is dark I felt like he didn’t have enough light or warmth (inside is between 70-75. He seemed to want to come out to go outside for sun. He was going to the bottom of the cage for three days and screen walking until I moved the cage outside. Haven’t seen him do it since so far.
I also do have a mesh top and there is air flow for him and yes how often should I set my mister for a veiled chameleon

Any chance u can reach out to me about my new vieled chameleon need some usedul tips please and thank you
You're welcome to message me on Instagram but I'd encourage you to watch my veiled chameleon care guide before doing so: ruclips.net/video/IC9YALNYrqQ/видео.html
Still don't understand why custom misters are still not popular. You can buy a pump, bucket, tubing and mist nozzle for under $70.
Who do you feel about using Repti Rain for a veil chameleon. I currently have a Beardie, but I've been looking into veil chameleons I've always wanted one.
The Repti Rain doesn't let you customize the mist times to the ones you need for a chameleon. I'd highly recommend the MistKing: joshsfrogs.com/sp/mistking-starter-misting-system-version-5-0-free-shipping-mksms512550
@@NeptunetheChameleon ok sounds good. Thank you.
I just brought home a Veiled Chameleon Today! Named her Clementine. Look forward to watching your videos to learn how to care better for her.

@@NeptunetheChameleon Absolutely! 🧐
Hi I didn’t really understand the part about the fogger I would like to get a fogger but I don’t know how long to run it at night a when. I also live in a dryer state.
Thank you!
analog lol
Is fresh collected rain water safe for chameleons to drink
I haven't heard about anyone using rain water indoors, but lots of people keep their chameleons outside and they drink rain water no problem.
Im sorry I know you explained about the foger but i didn’t got it can you please explain it to me 🙏🏼♥️🥸
I live on the desert and glass cage has worked super well for me
That's great to hear!
I always thought that placing your chameleon in the shower was odd when you could just run the mister for a few extra minutes
I just bought a female Jackson chameleon. I have a uvb & uva light. I’m not sure if I am using it right? I leave her uvb light on all day and the uva light for 10 hours a day. Am I doing that right?
Congrats on the new chameleon! All lights should be off at night including her UVB bulb. I’d suggest having both bulbs on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours. Good luck!
@@NeptunetheChameleon thank you! After watching your videos I learned a lot! I started dreaming about chameleons 😁
Those are some healthy lizards
Thank you!
How do you clean your chameleons digested food

I really want to get a chameleon but this seems like alot of work
They definitely are -- but so rewarding!
your videos have been so helpful in helping me care for my first chameleon. thank you so much!
Happy to help!
Hi there Neptune I was thinking my birthday is coming up and I was wanting to get a misting system. I was also thinking maybe you have a discount on something like that?
I do have a discount! Code NEPTUNE10 saves you 10% off every order at The Bio Dude: www.thebiodude.com/products/starter-mistking-misting-system-v-4-0?sca_ref=4441955.QC4I63Y9tE And happy early birthday 🥳
Hey thanks!!! I do appreciate it.
So if my house is cold at night I can turn on the humidifier ?
Yup!
Why do ur cameleon don't change colors?
They do. But chameleons change colors based on mood, temperatures, mating, etc. And they only get lighter or darker in color. A green chameleon won't magically turn purple or try to camouflage... that's a myth!
So stressed
Can I just use any plant? Or particular ones?
I’d stick to safe plant lists: www.neptunethechameleon.com/plants. I also have a whole video playlist just on plants :)
I have a question. Can you mist your chameleon cage with a spray bottle???
Of course! Just avoid misting your chameleon directly.
@@NeptunetheChameleon Thanks!
Were can o buy the space like the box thing
It's called an enclosure or cage. My next video will be about where to find them. Most people get the ZooMed XL Reptibreeze off of Amazon.
