- In this episode of Ask Doug, recorded in 2016, Pastor Doug Wilson answers the question, "Where does our current racial tension come from and how should we respond?"
Ask Doug is presented by Canon Press.
As someone who is mixed race, I can tell you for certain, whatever identity you think you have or want to hold onto, because of your melanin, is a useless and empty source of hope.
The only identity that saved me is in Christ, and since giving my life to Jesus I have found an identity that is beyond petty tribal or skin color boundaries, and breaks down the wall of hostility.
As someone who is white, I can tell you for certain, skin color is the least important measure of just how different our Divinely ordained differences are. Your "hope in Christ" BS as postured through this context is a cope for saying you don't want to deal with the true God given identity and what that should mean. Skin color is a boomer meme. Mexico, Africa, and India are incompatible with my white, Christian, Western, norms, and it ain't "muh skin color" as to why.
Really good. My favorite line:
“If your skin color is more important to you than your identity with Christ then you’re gonna miss out on that reconciliation.”
Personally, the color of ancient mummy calcified underwear seams way more relevant than Christ. For all the nice things we say, he just doesn't do much. Is got a big sovereign smile everything someone gets raped or murdered cause he does nothing. You can tell me he died for me, but the affairs of life say BS
It's easy for a white preacher to say it. It's kinda like "thoughts and prayers", meaningless. I guarantee your skin color isn't irrelevant to you. If you say otherwise, it's a lie. Being a Christian doesn't prevent you from getting assistance like being black does. It's stupid to believe otherwise. This is all meaningless posturing that will change nothing.
I agree on what he said about President Obama and it not just his position on abortion. Evangelical Black Americans should have called out Preisdent Obama in 2008 on his long time membership in a church that teaches Black Liberation Theology and its fruits of racism, antisemitism and anti Christian message.
“Blood may be thicker than water, but the Holy Spirit is thicker than blood” -Martyn Lloyd Jones
Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. Highly misunderstood saying
How do we respond to racial tension? Tell black people to denounce Obama. Sounds like a real tension-relieving conversation. I suppose that might work with blacks who adhere to Reformed theology, who tend to be pretty conservative anyway, but not so much for society at large. (Much like if the other side insisted that when you denounce white supremacists, that you include Trump among them...that will ramp up the tension with the conservatives I know.)
Trump is a White Supremacist in the same way he is a successful businessman.
Good points Doug, grace received means grace given. To unite the gospel is the only thing that can unify fallen rebels.
It’s important to clarify the distinction between racial reconciliation and being “color blind.” In fact, Thomas Aquinas states that one of the properties of the risen body will be “identity.” Namely that in the New Heavens and New Earth, we will still have our race and sex. The heart of reconciliation is forgiveness, not pretending that race doesn’t exist.
I maybe don't understand colorblindness but, my take was just that we don't judge someone by their skin color. Race is a non existent term, we are all part of the human race. What is called racism is really tribalism. Many different cultures/tribes exist that have "white" skin as well. I live near Dutch, swiss, Ukrainian, irish, french and many more. They all have unique aspects that make the world interesting just like any other culture would.
Man, I really missed the point of Beowulf. I thought the 1970's novel Grendel highlighted the tribal violence as a critique of the poem, but maybe it was just expanding on it. Oddly enough, the Marillion song about the novel (also called Grendel) reminds me of the current racial narrative
"Why should I feel pity when you kill your own and feel no shame
God's on my side, sure as hell, I'm gonna take no blame
I'm gonna take no blame, I'm gonna take no blame
So you say you believe in all of Mother Nature's laws
You lust for gold with your sharpened knives
Oh when your hoards are gathered and your enemies left to rot
You pray with your bloodstained hands at the feet of your pagan gods
Then you try to place the killer's blade in my hand
You call for justice and distort the truth
Well I've had enough of all your pretty pretty speeches"
This applies more to the activists. The media won't tell you that Black Americans are generally favorable to police.
Said well Pastor Doug!
I have never experienced racial tension. I have tension with those who disagree with Jesus, and sometimes some tension within the Body regarding disagreement about the boundaries of that agreement. Tension is in the mind and heart, not in genetics and skin color.
We UNEQUIVOCALLY condemn all INJUSTICE, and OPEN OUR EARS to the cries of the poor. (If we know the Book, we know this.)
Truth!
Gloves coming off for Obama. Love it. Beck just did the same thing.
How many times must it be said, "Christ or chaos!" Man can try any -- ANY -- worldly idea and it WILL BE FUTILE! ANYTHING outside of falling before Christ Jesus in abject humility and FULLY and COMPLETELY submitting oneself to Him and Him alone is both spiritual AND physical suicide!
Maranatha!
We need to call the Prince of Peace to rain over our countries. Prayer warriors of all colors, stand in the gap and pray.
I’ve listened to Doug before his thoughts on CRT and he sarcastic and smart but KKK & Obama in the same sentence is interesting.
By far the longest I have ever seen Doug laugh at his own joke.
Good whiskey.
The most jovial I've seen him tbh. He's quite a subtle, terse humour that that smile was almost jarring.
Prejudice=the act or state of holding unreasonable preconceived judgements or convictions. What is prejudice? Sin. Who is guilty of sin? All of mankind. Not just one group. All of mankind. Romans 3:23.
Can you honestly say if your skin was darker you could just forgive and move on from all the years we owned then persecuted that people? If getting your pastoral position had been hindered by your skin color, what would you think? If you think a simple , "Lets hug and make up" is sufficient, you're being naive and not even trying to practice empathy. I'm white and not silly. I'm not racist, but have seen it all around me my whole life. I can't relate to what a black man feels because of my color, but I can see that it's always been different for black people as opposed to white. If you had a heritage of bondage, your story would sound much different. It's just silly to not see just how out of balance things have always been racially here.
The Beowulf example is the story of paganism.and fighting dinosaurs. The book of Job is after the Global Flood year judgement 4500 years after Creation. The One Ice Age. It extended and retreated over 500 years. We all come from the 3 sons of Noah Shem Ham and Japheth. The Tower of Babel judgement was when God created different languages so they couldn’t conspire in the rebellion of Nimrod th evil King elevating himself in zodiac worship. This was the time of Peleg. Please go to the documentary Is Genesis History ? for real Biblical worldview Creationist Christian History and timeframes and genealogical Truth. Dinosaurs are mentioned at the end of Job. They were called dragons as the word dinosaurs was not invented until 1841 by Richard Owens. Know the Truth ?
The way I see it; God created five races of man. Each should be valued as a creation of God and allowed cultural and necessarily therefore, demographic integrity in its own respective homeland.
Turning the world’s population into one grey mass of indistinguishable economic units is to take man as far away from God’s creation as possible. ‘Many nations, many tongues’.
It's tragic when “Christians” turn to pagans, the world for solutions! We follow KING JESUS and HIS WORD. WE ARE ONE IN. CHRIST! Elect from every tongue and tribe!
The only solution is to ignore it
Enabling racist
@@RAWALITY There is no such thing as racism. Races don't even exist according to the bible
@@kennethkotelo893 You are evil
@@RAWALITY All human beings descend from Noah's 3 sons (Shem, Ham and Japtheh). There is no mention of races in the bible whatsoever and the only distinction between people in the bible is on the basis of whether they are a believer or not.
@@RAWALITY No, you are because you reject what the bible teaches
ONLY way a scripturally-sound Christian should “respond...” is speakin TRUTH (in💙, of course...)
This is rare though...example:
At a ladies Bible study, I made the (FACTUAL) comment how💔’n it was that one of American’s MOST self-segregated “institutions,” is what our culture/society knows today as the (Christian) church...
Well, U’d thought I’d publicly cursed and/or said some kinda racial slur, by the sound of the loud gasps, amongst all my super Godly, morally-disciplined, dignified Christian sisters...
I had to then say...Now ladies, we all know Jesus is an all-💙’n merciful, sacrificial, gracious Savior, BUT don’t know what Bible y’all been readin...cause he MOST certainly didn’t hold back from callin out the “religious” hierarchy and SELF-righteous of His day...
I’d say some (more like, A LOT) of “God’s chosen people” of Israel were pretty “offended,” by what He spoke publicly.
Yet, the bulk of my fellow Christian sisters, (I’m not talkin bout the men, obviously...) view accidentally “offending” and/or hurtin another sister’s “feelin’s” as committin the only unforgivable sin...
This is BAD for His church, due to it breeding a BAD result...
(And that result be’in, of course...)
NOT the scripturally-sound (model) Christian woman/wife/mother/sister etc...
Now when I threw in a few quotes from Dr Thomas Sowell...that sent a few over the edge, (literally...) but TRUE historical fact(s), aren’t “rooted” in the present-day “conversation bout race...”
For goodness sakes! How many verses of scripture address this fundamental topic! There’s countless! Christians outta KNOW (IF they actually READ their Bibles) what the “response,” should consist of...
“We are all fallen creatures and very hard to live with.”
~ CS Lewis
This guy is comparing Obama to KKK. I am not an obamite but his comparison is silly. Secondly, he is putting condition before discussing forgiveness, what duh (jesse lee peterson accent)
That speaks Volumes to hear him say that. It shows the cognitive connections evangelicals have to religion and politics. There is no comparison to Obama and the KKK.
The comments about Obama are non-sensical. What does abortion have to do with white supremacy? If blacks disavow say, an Al Sharpton, then I get his point. But he must disavow the Confederacy as well.
