  • Buckfast Abbey has a ring of 12 bells and a bourdon in the tower. Access to the ringing room takes you through a gallery from which the earlier ring of 12 used to be rung. The rope guides for this earlier ring are still there and ringing from here would have been a very hairy experience. The ringing featured is the initial pull off as seen from the belfry (so not the best quality striking) followed by an exerpt from the first hour of a peal of Stedman Cinques. The microphones in the ringing room do pick up a lot of the rope and pulley noise. Acoustics in the ringing room vary considerably from place to place, so this is not the most flattering representation of the bells.

it's odd why they hung 10 and 11 the same way. normally they would hang to reduce tower sway. Also - lovely bells!!
