  • The bells of Dunsford are a superb example of a modern Whitechapel six, I think they are exceptional tonally and with new ropes it has really changed them, the bells are much more responsive. They sound good both inside and out and were cast in 1978, the Tenor weighing 12-3-16 in G.
This recording is of the Shaugh Prior band who rang at the annual Dunsford competition on Saturday 30th July 2022, the first time it has been rung for since 2018.
Ringers from Treble to Tenor - Nick Trout, Natasha Trout, Angie Trout, David Crocker, Ryan Trout and Roger Trout.

Interesting! These sound much better than the thinner scale efforts from the mid 1980s.

excellent ringing as always but am curious why Devon call change ringers run the rope through the hand.
The lady on the third doesn't.
I wonder if there is a reason.
    Cheers

Ti's a Devon thing, most of us weren't told not too, it can also give you more control of the rope, especially on ground floor rings where ropes tend to move around, it also helps with the handling due to the bells going faster. Although, as you say, not everyone does it, I tend to change my style when ringing on 8 and above, I don't have the rope running through, hope that helps

@@ryantrout6094 Thank Ryan, in alway trying to learn new things.
The way you ring bells up is brilliant although I often feel the tenor rope cops a hiding on a really heavy tenor with big blokes on the end.
The ringing on the Yeovil 12 was brilliant.

@@ryantrout6094I do run the rope through my hand but the only problem with that is that you get loads of blisters if you do it to that way

Ryan - do you have any video from inside the belfry of your ringing? Us method ringers would find that fascinating.

Hi Mike, this is from inside, unless I've uploaded the wrong thing........

Sorry, I've just read this again, no videos of the bells I'm afraid. There is a clip of the bells from inside on my recording from Almondsbury, but it's only very short.

If you record bells in the belfry with a phone, you are more vulnerable to the sound being distorted and therefore unenjoyable to the viewers ears. In this clip, the camera brings the beauty of this lovely six!

Ever since i have stumbled upon your channel I have stopped to listen and watch method ringing vids alltogether. Method ringing is shite, dull and boring af. Nothing beats call change ringing.
I love how the different combinations results in different overtone and undertone vibes. because of the repeats i can really enjoy and appreciate each combination . its kind of meditative .... or to use better and more accurate words ... prayerful. I dont get that with method ringing..... i experience the constant changes as annoying.
Your bell ringers group upringing and downringing is amazing.
I hear every change is done about 5 to 8 times......... personally i wouldn't mind if every change is done about 15 times.
Thanks for uploading. i always enjoy them. just a pitty the vids are only 14 minutes. i could listen to you guys ringing for hours on end.
    God bless.

Hmm, I disagree. Round other parts of England you won’t get invited to much ringing other than general ringing events. But, if you ring in Devon and can only ring call changes, there is nothing wrong with that! Also, you can be a good ringer even if you can only ring call changes, but struck well!!
