Instead of disassembling the relay, do an old car mechanics trick: get an emery board and clean the contacts without disassembly. It takes just a a couple strokes and eliminates the risks associated with that 6 layer stack.
Thanks for watching! Yeah that heating tip is a life saver! I wish I could remember the channel I found it on to credit them. I used the heat on the tabs of the diesel horns and tabs on the trucks and its saved all of them from breaking off.
Another great video, Warren! I like the overhead steady cam shots. They really help. I've got all the parts ready to replace a broken whistle, so this video came out just in time. :)
Just another thought, on some of these the field coil, or commutator could be wired in the other direction by accident making the the blower wheel run the wrong way, making more air noise then whistle sound. I had one some time back that I bought used and it was wired wrong.
Hey, I’m new to this, and I just had some of these handed down to me and I was needing a tutorial on how to clean and fix an 1120 engine and 1654W whistle blower and a 2032 engine. Do you think you can help me out with that?
Hi George. Welcome to the hobby and thanks for watching! Yes I can help out. I have a video for the 1120 here: ruclips.net/video/76taiSLKAPY/видео.html And the 1654W tender works no differently than the one in the video you watched. So it will apply to your tender. Unless someone has been in there and swapped out parts.
For the whistle box, use a can of air like we use for our computers to blow out the dust in the chamber.

Thanks I needed some direction. I have one to rebuild .
I hope this is helpful to you! Good luck with the rebuild.
Awesome tip on heating the tabs prior to unfolding them! Just got my superflex wire delivered, and been meaning to fix my 2689W tender for awhile

Nice work!! Maybe canned air can blow out those tough spots at the bottom of the whistle
Hey Jpseph, thanks for watching. I JUST got a "hand me down" air compressor and some attachments so I can truly blow out the cobwebs now!

As mentioned in the video, these older Prewar- early postwar whistle tenders with the cast whistle boxes are my favorite! Is yours one of these too?
@@warrenmuzakpostwarguy4331 No, plastic, I'm afraid. :/
Great ,useful video.🚂🚂
