  • In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains key things you need to know about male pattern balding or hair loss treatment - including different medicated and non-medicated options available.
How does male-pattern hair loss progress?
Generally speaking, male pattern baldness tends to develop slowly and the good news is that there are treatment options available if this is something you want to treat. The primary aim of treatment is to try reduce further hair loss, and some men regrow a bit of their hair. The men who tend to see the best results start treatment soon after noticing hair loss.
    What are medication options?
In this video we will cover topical minoxidil and finasteride. Like any medication there are side effects to be aware of and we cover some of these in the video.
    What a non-medication options?
Some affected individuals find wigs, toupees and even hair extensions very helpful in disguising hair loss. Skin camoflauge is another option.
Finally, surgical treatment which includes hair transplantation, a procedure where hair follicles are taken from the back and sides of the scalp and transplanted onto the bald areas; and scalp reduction, where a section of the bald area is removed and the hair-bearing scalp stretched to cover the gap.
In the USA several laser devices are now available to treat hair loss plus something called platelet-rich plasma (or PRP) which I discuss in this video.

Great content! Medical science has made so much progress, yet balding/thinning of hair still remains uncured. Thanks for sharing this helpful video, Dr. O'Donovan! 🙌❤

You did not mention oral minoxidil. I found a study that said it was safer and more effective than finasteride. I was concerned about post-finasteride syndrome so I decided to give it a try first. I have only been taking it for a few months but have already seen incredible results.
