I married a modern woman and had a son. She turned around on me within two years and started having affairs. After the third one, we divorced. Then I married a traditional wife who took care of kids and home stuff while I worked a stressful corporate job. There is no comparison. Without a wife's help it's it's 100x more stressful and my career suffered thru the first marriage. I flourished and made the most money with the second one.

The irony is that a single person would have to do all the housework and cooking for themselves anyway, and any extra work such as cooking, putting in an extra chop in the oven, and a little extra laundry, etc., is negligible. Therefore dividing up the type of work (e.g. housework vs. paying bills and home maintenance) is beneficial and time saving for both parties. Not to mention that it’s cheaper for two people to live under one roof than two people living in two separate units. The problem is that a lot of people are just difficult to get along with.

As an older man that has been alone (by choice) for the last 15 years, I can add my 2 cents worth; if it works for you, then cool. If not, I at least added a perspective you might be able to draw from. Wants are all well and good, but in the end, it is NEEDS that must be met. Men may want a hot body or something like that (at the front of their mind), but at the back of their mind they are going to need: 1) Honesty- if the man can't feel as if he can trust his partner's words 100%, he's going to always be suspicious or wonder what isn't being said. Also, please remember that what you say isn't always as important as HOW YOU SAY IT. 2) Integrity- Integrity is the quality of being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or earnestness of one's actions. Integrity can stand in opposition to hypocrisy. How has American culture gone down hill over the years? The decline of integrity and the rise of hypocrisy. To me, an easy way to think of hypocrisy is the "Do as I say and not as I do" mentality. (yes, I got the definition from wikipedia; it hit all of the important points I wanted to highlight) 3) Trust- In the end, while guys may be all tough and hard-as-steel on the outside (at least for my generation; Gen X'er here), on the inside, unless we have been severely damaged by toxic relationships in the past, we are just as soft-and-gooey emotional on the inside at times. Mentally and emotionally, we take damage and get hurt just as much as anyone else. 4) Love/Warmth/Understanding: Guys in this day and age, suffer from a huge amount of "you don't understand what I am going through" (most people nowadays, to be honest; might be why today's suicide rates are so high). We also have trouble finding real love; instead, it is usually "I will love you right now, until the next love comes along". Nothing hurts a guy more than being abandoned or left for the next guy that rings her bell a little louder. Betrayal will usually cause a guy's heart to harden to the point that it doesn't feel much of anything (or at least anything positive). It becomes a landmine for the next relationship that comes along, waiting until one callous word or deed that reminds the guy of what created it sets it off. 5) Respect- respect is a two-way street. A guy has to give it, but he also NEEDS to receive it. In a lot of ways it is just as important as love. Something else to consider is this: no one likes being taken for granted! Guys. Girls. We all do NOT do well with this shark swimming around in our bath tubs! Because these needs aren't being met, a lot of men now are choosing to be alone. Needs not met one way can be filled other ways. Feeling lonely? Hang out with buddies. Feeling tired? Take a nap/get some sleep. Hungry? EAT! Western/"modern" women ignoring or overlooking you? Go someplace else! As we get older, men adapt to survive. In our youth, it might be a need to reproduce, to keep our family line going. But as the years move on and our priorities shift, as we gain wisdom, as we take our lumps and get our scars, we eventually evolve into a complete and total human being; THAT is when the dynamics start to shift. Once the guy has evolved, it then becomes a matter of "I don't NEED you around to make me feel complete. I WANT you around for the unique individual that you are". Any of this make sense?

Internal stability are things like warmth, kindness, and support. Both can provide external and internal stability, at least to a degree, but the primary focus starts there. Relationships are about supporting each other. So a man can be supportive emotionally, it’s even encouraged. It’s part of being protective. External stability is where that is drawn from. What makes something relevant to external stability can contribute to internal stability as well. Which we can’t forget about the fact that men are people too, so inevitably, there is going to be subjective qualities expressed and cared for. I would say a good thing for women to bring to the table is their emotionality channeled positively. Thats kind of the essence of feminity and the reason it exist to add beauty and life to an otherwise bleak existence. Alot of traditional roles of feminity kind of play into this with food preparation, child care, or making the home into something beautiful but intangibly I think the energy of femininity is a lot more cornerstone to their purpose within a relationship because it revitalizes the man and gives him motivation to work for her and provide for her and the family.

i think too often, people try too hard to find concrete things to grasp onto which you can verbally articualate when understanding things like trying to find something concrete on which attraction and relationships are contingent. But I think you fail to realize that what attraction is contingent on is a very abstract psychological phenomenon and sometimes, people just like each other because they like each other and thus care about and value the wellbeing of each other and can work together to do that.

How has American culture gone down hill over the years? The decline of integrity and the rise of hypocrisy. To me, an easy way to think of hypocrisy is the "Do as I say and not as I do" mentality. (yes, I got the definition from wikipedia; it hit all of the important points I wanted to highlight)
3) Trust- In the end, while guys may be all tough and hard-as-steel on the outside (at least for my generation; Gen X'er here), on the inside, unless we have been severely damaged by toxic relationships in the past, we are just as soft-and-gooey emotional on the inside at times. Mentally and emotionally, we take damage and get hurt just as much as anyone else.
4) Love/Warmth/Understanding: Guys in this day and age, suffer from a huge amount of "you don't understand what I am going through" (most people nowadays, to be honest; might be why today's suicide rates are so high). We also have trouble finding real love; instead, it is usually "I will love you right now, until the next love comes along". Nothing hurts a guy more than being abandoned or left for the next guy that rings her bell a little louder. Betrayal will usually cause a guy's heart to harden to the point that it doesn't feel much of anything (or at least anything positive). It becomes a landmine for the next relationship that comes along, waiting until one callous word or deed that reminds the guy of what created it sets it off.
5) Respect- respect is a two-way street. A guy has to give it, but he also NEEDS to receive it. In a lot of ways it is just as important as love. Something else to consider is this: no one likes being taken for granted! Guys. Girls. We all do NOT do well with this shark swimming around in our bath tubs!
Because these needs aren't being met, a lot of men now are choosing to be alone. Needs not met one way can be filled other ways. Feeling lonely? Hang out with buddies. Feeling tired? Take a nap/get some sleep. Hungry? EAT! Western/"modern" women ignoring or overlooking you? Go someplace else! As we get older, men adapt to survive. In our youth, it might be a need to reproduce, to keep our family line going.
But as the years move on and our priorities shift, as we gain wisdom, as we take our lumps and get our scars, we eventually evolve into a complete and total human being; THAT is when the dynamics start to shift. Once the guy has evolved, it then becomes a matter of "I don't NEED you around to make me feel complete. I WANT you around for the unique individual that you are".

Masculinity is about external stability, while femininity is about internal stability. External stability are things like safety/protection and resources. Internal stability are things like warmth, kindness, and support. Both can provide external and internal stability, at least to a degree, but the primary focus starts there.
Relationships are about supporting each other. So a man can be supportive emotionally, it’s even encouraged. It’s part of being protective. External stability is where that is drawn from. What makes something relevant to external stability can contribute to internal stability as well. Which we can’t forget about the fact that men are people too, so inevitably, there is going to be subjective qualities expressed and cared for. Which is why I don’t describe these as object vs subject oriented tasks or stability. Was about to but then I saw the flaw in it.

I would say a good thing for women to bring to the table is their emotionality channeled positively. Thats kind of the essence of feminity and the reason it exist to add beauty and life to an otherwise bleak existence. Alot of traditional roles of feminity kind of play into this with food preparation, child care, or making the home into something beautiful but intangibly I think the energy of femininity is a lot more cornerstone to their purpose within a relationship because it revitalizes the man and gives him motivation to work for her and provide for her and the family.

The sum needs to 100%, life tips the scale sometimes 50/50, 40/60, 60/40, and who does what but still needs to sum 100%. i think too often, people try too hard to find concrete things to grasp onto which you can verbally articualate when understanding things like trying to find something concrete on which attraction and relationships are contingent. But I think you fail to realize that what attraction is contingent on is a very abstract psychological phenomenon and sometimes, people just like each other because they like each other and thus care about and value the wellbeing of each other and can work together to do that.
