I love all of the stuff that Brent wrote or had a hand in writing. His musical intelligence and integrity cannot be overstated! His contributions to the band were amazing really made a lot of the songs pop with the adding of his voice into the melody of Jerry and Bobby.

Jerry was entirely focused on producing music, and nothing else. I suggest you look for an interview with Branford Marsalis about his collaboration with the Dead in 1990. Marsalis states that Jerry, when on stage, was entirely focused on producing sounds for their audience, and nothing else.

My Dad missed the boat on the Dead, but am still jealous at many of the shows that he saw for example; Pink a Floyd twice on Dark Side and Wall tours, Eric Clapton with Santana opening and then them having like a half hour jamming encore at the end, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix . The list is literally way too long to mention it all. I have surpassed his quantity but that is really hard quality to beat though I have seen many great bands and had a great time doing it. Not to say that I don’t have my own great shows like Phish, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, John Mayall and Blues Breakers, Willie Nelson, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Primus and all types of Claypiol side projects, etc etc etc

I caught up w/ the circus at Meadowlands. Epic roadtrip frm FLA. I find my buddy sleeping in the parking lot, Day 1. "Sammy!!!" "Uh, dude, I didn't get any tickets for you." Classic. Of course, the NEXT car that pulls in, the crew bails out, stretches and says "Any youse guys need a ticket?" Only at a Dead show. Smokin hot shows...second nite, 3 or 4 of the Nevilles sat in second set, it was like Mardi Gras. Ahhh, the memories.

I was a 16 year old, green behind the ears burgeoning deadhead who had a group of ten 19 year olds as "chaperones" for the show. So grateful that I was there. There are so many highlights to speak of from this one. But what sticks out the most, and much of '89 can be characterized this way, was the passion, the fun, and the thunder-chops poring out of Tiger. Sure, many say the 70s was the decade that saw the best dead. And maybe this is so. But, for those of us who saw the Dead in the mid-late 80s, there was nothing... NOTHING... that touched it! And for the record, I have yet to hear a version of Loser from any decade better than the one at this show. I still get goosebumps even time I listen to it. I caught the next two night at Giants Stadium... Had I been a few years older I would have done the whole tour. Check out "Downhill from Here" from the Apline shows. Aside from Spring '90, I feel like this represents the best the dead had to offer during their third and final act. Thank you Jerry!

they were just playing at such a high level at this point in time....we can debate whether the highs werent as high as some of the 70's stuff but as far as high energy, rocking shows on the regular...you cannot dispute the late 80's as having been an amazing time to have had. So lucky i got to see this era...how i wish that Brent had stuck around with his friends. He died the summer i went to college and the majority of my shows were after he left us. One day at college I somehow became engaged in a discussion with a young man from Campus Crusade for Christ. I soon realized he was trying to evangelize so I let him do his thing. The subject turned to music and I mentioned the Grateful Dead. He said something to the effect of "your on the highway to hell". I almost lost my shit. I wanted to retort with a snide "At least I'm enjoying the ride", but he was so courageageously sharing the gospel that I withheld. I still laugh because I grew up in church and saw the guy coming from a mile away. Sometimes I just enjoy indulging an adamant religious zealot, if only for the interesting stories.

“At least I’m enjoying the ride” is code between Deadheads to establish that one is a legit Deadhead.

Could Jerry really be gone over 20 years? Seems like yesterday. Clearly their best album IMHO.

No, it's not the best album. It's the best G£}{>!!€am time ever in history, from time of the Big Bang, forward. There'll never again be anything great as this, ever.

I remember this show. The last dead concert I ever went to. They were awsome that day. Brents "Blow Away" was off the charts. The shrooms were abundandt. But what I remember the most was how fucking hot it was that day. Even after the sun went down no relief. What a long strange trip.

There was about 3 months in the spring of 77 when the dead in top form... but over 3 years here- 87- till fall of 90 before Jerry got back on junk.

@MimmGigg Why negative? Jerry is tearing it up here & clearly digging it. '89 was the band in top form.
