I bet Chris Alo bought two copies one for listening and one to stay sealed. lol
Maybe 3? One for the car too?
I’ve done that a few times w. different releases.
The sealed copy has been sent to cryogenics, lol...
The Rainbow '73 show was my first Sabbath gig and it made a huge impression on me. It was like stepping into another world. Vol 4 is still my favourite album by some distance.
Early Sabs are consistantly amazing - SABOTAGE is my number 1.
Steven Wilson's remixes are a treat. Listen to Chicago 2, Close to the Edge and Aqualung. I'm glad he's involved with Vol. 4 Remaster
Its between vol4 and master of reality that alternates as my fave BS album.
Saw them on that tour at the Rainbow,North London in '73 and of course,it was a full on blast.
Great video you old comic BOOK geezer.love it.I sat in my oldest brothers room and listen to that record when i was 9 years old.still love it.
VOL. 4 ... one of their best Black Sabbath albums
I remember from some interviews over the years, interestingly enough, the album title would be simply vol 4 rather than volume 4. Doesn't matter of course, either way it's okay.
My all time favorite is Sabotage 👌 I think it’s their best.
@@Deauxtje Yes Sabotage is also a good album ... Paranoid flies over everything 😉🤘🎶🎸🎶🤘
Holy Wow!😮😵🤯
Sooo many bands need to get with this program!!
Thanks for the review. I just received my package today ! Can't wait to read the book. This is my favorite Sabbath album as well. SUPERNAUT !!!!!!!!!!!!
I usually avoid unboxing videos like the plague! But anything this awesome channel produces I'm on board with.
My favorite Sabbath album, too. Such cool tunes...
The first time I saw Sabbath was in Mar 1, 1972 Black Sabbath
Cumberland County Memorial Arena, Fayetteville, NC - with Wild Turkey and Bang a most memorable night.
Thank you, Pete
Thank you for showing the Black Sabbath, ‘Vol. 4 ‘ Super Deluxe CD set!! I want this in my collection, too!! Black Sabbath, ‘Vol. 4’ is my favorite !!🎼🎤🎸🎵🥁
Saw them at the Hollywood Bowl in 72 with a great band, Captain Beyond, opening for them, that's my best memory!
Many thanks for your review Pete. Wasn't sure whether to buy or not but i think i will now. All the best.
It's BLACK SABBATH you got to have it.also my favorite. Thanks PETE you ROCK.
Apart from the book, this is another case of "scraping the bottom of the barrel" and selling the same old, same old. And I can't believe they're still trying to allure us with "remaster" no. 27...
I cant argue with u - i feel the same - its also my fave sabbath album - i have live at last on 5 cds / vinyls etc lol - i dont need it again - if it was a concert wed never heard before - id be tempted - some of it is live at last retreads
@Alket Kellici yet again !!
From early days discovering this album, I have also always considered it close to their #1. Although I only own a very small number of box sets, I have to say this one is an interesting one...thx for the review Pete. Food for thought.
Agreed. My favorite of the first 4. After this, they started to lose their way. Vol 4 Beginning to end just flows.
How many of you were born in the (me, the early) 60's, went to tons of concerts in the 70's, read Circus, Cream, RS, etc., listened to hard rock like Kiss and Aerosmith, even BOC / Rush, etc. BUT never bought a Black Sabbath record until in more recent years (me, 2021). I'm a voracious classic rock fan but skipped this band altogether. I bought their first 8 cd's in one fell swoop a month ago, have listened to BS/BS, Paranoid and Vol 4 out of the first 8 over the last week - for the 1st time ever. I had extremely low expectations only knowing the hits played on radio. As you can expect, as you once were if you heard them for the first time in the 70's or 80's, I was floored at the incredible vibes and pleasure I had listening to these - the creativity, the passion, the musicianship, the feeling you were listening to 5 songs in a single song with all the changes, the variation, etc. Well, Vol 4 is easily in my top 3 but I still have 5 cd's to go! And I just bought "13" today because the reviews were very good. Can't wait for Master, Sabbath Bloody, Sabotage and all the others. Thanks to programs like this I'm catching up on Sabbath. Prior to a month ago, I only owned the Heaven / Hell Blu from Radio City which I think is Great.
I know where your coming from I was more into Deep Purple, Grand Funk didn't get into Sabbath till early 78 when someone turned me on to Master of Reality and that just blew my mind, went out a bought their whole catalog and lucked out as Never Say Die! was released later that year and caught the band live even though everybody says Van Halen blew them off the stage that tour I didn't care Sabbath was the reason I went and had a hell of a time, and to stay on topic of Vol.4 I just heard this and its ok if you never had a copy, the outtakes where the only thing I really liked the live stuff has been out there before nothing really new.
Well, I was born in 1961, read those magazines, watched midnight special and Don Kirshner's rock concert and all that but as far as Sabbath… They were my first concert in 1975. Aerosmith opened.
@@professorpsoop Wish I was there, thanks.
This review is all that I need right now. Thank you very much, Pete
Sad to see them grow old......but damn they play so young.....they stay so young...they potray such great Gothic rock......they are hands down in History....for all generations....period.
Yo Pete, I cracked up when you mentioned "how many times in my life have I bought Vol. 4?" because that's exactly the thing that came to my mind when I first read about this new release. Varying quantities each of the vinyl, 8 track, cassette, cd...I couldn't remember! LOL... had to order it as well... ,,\/, ,\/,,
My first Sabbs album so was gonna buy this and my beautiful lady got it for me, on vinyl and will get it on CD. It's really a nice package.
Just ordered this. Had in in tape as a kid. Then another tape. Then the cd. Then in record. I'd love to hear demos for the next two albums two, with extra cd's of California jam and Don Kirshners rock show.
Haha! "I said to myself: 'Self! How many times...'" Cracking up!
Picked this up and it sounds amazing. Not only my favorite Black Sabbath album but Steven Wilson remixing made this a must have for me. Doesn't disappoint!
Thanks Pete, great video
I'm a huge fan but I can't help but think "money grab" when I see something like this especially if Sharon has anything to do with it. I've owned multiple versions of this album too with the last being the Castle remaster witch I'm super happy with. I mean it's a 50 year old album, how much more material could they dig up from it and considering all the different versions already released (live at last, past lives ect). Honestly, I can't see myself shelling out for it again unless it had completely new rare extra unreleased stuff from the vaults like "The Rebel" or "Song for Jim".
Well, they grabbed my money! LOL
@@seaoftranquilityprog you just helped Sharon buy a new purse Lol.
I get that feeling from the up coming Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules deluxe editions, they already came out in Europe and Asia in 2010
Damian Perry, no, Mob Rules has a complete previously unreleased concert.
@@frankchase9049 yea the concert on Mob Rules is new, but that's it, it's still the same remaster Andy did from 2010.
Heaven and hell only has a few songs from the Hammersmith show, where the 2010 Mob Rules Deluxe edition had the full show.
That concert is also from the Live Evil tapes, same leg of the tour, same set list, just a more live "Live Evil".
Greatest 70s rock LP.A masterpiece.Musically and lyrically in a stratospheric level. This LP makes any other band of 70s sounds like a pop band.Perfection..It s insane how they started from 1970 with the blues and in just 2 years they had created something new in rock music with 4 brilliant LPs
Yes I love these new 4 disc boxed sets. I hope they do them for every single black sabbath album
Thanks for the great review. My favorite album, too. Would have liked Sabbath Bloody more if the engineering/production had been better, but I love that one, too. Can't wait to hear the alternates!
Black Sabbath Matters !!!!!
Really glad you did a video on this Pete. Very helpful and honest 👍
I'd buy this if only to help Bill Ward get a royalty check.
It's a nice sentiment, but he is worth $65 million.
Yeah agreed lol
@@budgiemcleod4443 seriously? And he wanted more money for 13?!?!
Thanks for reviewing this Pete. I will definitely get this. Peace....Steve
Nice little collectors edition!
Let's not forget the Rhino is reissuing 'Heaven and Hell' and 'Mob Rules'.
Mob Rules, one of my all time favourite albums and favourite Black Sabbath album. Sounds as if this will definitely be worth checking out for me. Thanks for the info.
Cannot wait for these
@Alket Kellici Reissues are good because it keeps physical media alive. For people not happy about it than simply don't buy it.
I got it!! It's so awesome 😎
This was my 1st Sabbath Lp at 13. Still my favorite 👍
I'm a collector and fiend, I've got the vinyl version, and am waiting for the CD version to be delivered.
Do you, or Chris, have any idea why they did this for Paranoid and 4, but not the debut or MoR? It just seems odd to skip those two very important records.
Vol4 being my favorite(splitting hairs, but still), I'm certainly happy they did this one.
The packaging is so damn nice, just love it
I was so on the fence for this but youve convinced me lol
My favorite Ozzy era Sabbbath album also. Btw, I'm also a huge fan of Never Say Die. Give it another chance Pete! It's such an underrated Sabbath album. Hoping to get a Super Deluxe version of that album too.
Absolutely love this boxset. Incredibly worth it and the best sounding yet. And they did enough cocaine to kill a small horse. 65,000$ worth.
More like a Draught Horse🐴
Gonna get it ! Thanks for this review ... Alternate takes and comments sounds interesting..👍🇫🇷🤘
Nice review. Maybe I need this. But then I need the deluxe Paranoid. Hoping get a deluxe sabotage and SBS.
Thanks for the 'unboxing' and breakdown review! I seem to remember Frank Zappa saying that Supernaught was a favorite of his (and later Iron Man). First heard Vol 4 in 1974. I still have my LP copy from then - as well as CDs and SACD. Awesome album.
The band was thrilled at having Zappa's endorsement, they thought it might give them some credibility with the critics and Geezer was a huge Zappa fan.
Vol. 4 is my favorite Sabbath album too. I hope to pick this up in a couple weeks if it's still in stock.
Awesome review, thanks Pete I'm probably going to have to get this one for sure.
Great album! Recording sessions fueled by several pounds of coke in L.A. Snowblind is one of their best tracks
Count me out because of the crappy cheap digipaks. The CDs tend to scratch bad in those. At least they could have used the sterdy ones with the plastic tray to hold the CD.
I'm somehat obnoxious about this - but I got rid of hundreds of store bought and mail order CDs when I moved across the country in 2014. I was sure it was a big mistake. I don't miss having all that crap taking up space. CDs were never a format that any aesthetic value - for me. The mastering on so much of it was awful. You get one good sounding CD per every 10. Some are not even listenable. Outside of my own bands' CDs, I saved exactly one - an original MegaForce "Kill 'Em All." :)
Nope. You get the plastic sleeve inserts. Very handy. I agree though. Without the sleeves. It is shit
Sabbath saved my life!!!!
I got the Paranoid Super Deluxe, that's pretty great.
The original 70s Quadraphonic mix is sooooooooo awesome. I folded it down to a stereo mix and it's my favorite version now. The panning and different Warpigs ending is top notch.
"Ozzy just fumbling along." Like most live shows! 🤣
Hi Pete. Just checked price of the Super Deluxe on vinyl. $110. Cool. Except here in South Africa it would set me back R2000 our currency. Not including shipping. Want but can't have dammit. Thanx for the review.
I guess at one point supernaut was Frank Zappas favorite songs. He was a big fan
John Bonham loved it as well
“Pete,”your ‘Sea of Tranquility’ shirt is cool, hot and spot-on!! Your dog is rockin’ out in the background!! Take Care. 🎼🎤🎸🎵🥁
Watched Derrick and John Heatons reviews on many occasions. Pete your show is by far superior. You not only are knowledgeable, but shine with your sense of humor and speaking voice. The others are just so drab and boring. Keep up the great work!!!
Doug D.
Jury’s out as if I am going to buy this box set.
Just ordered the Jethro Tull A Box, looking forward to it coming through the
Letter box.
Curious to hear the outtakes=Should have been called "The SnowBlind Travel Guide...
The Heaven and Hell Delux set out March 5th looks like it is worth purchasing. Includes a Hammersmith show
great album. well it's black sabbath i love deluxe stuff.
Love Vol.4!
"Changes" seemed to have the most recognizable sound difference to me. Not really my favorite song but that's one I picked up on with this new remaster.
Black Sabbath- Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules reissues will be coming out very soon as well March 5th I believe.
PETE - LOVE YA STUFF DUDE!!! GREETZ N CHEERS FROM GERMANY!!!
thanks for this pete! i would really like to hear what the squares all listen to music with. what there systems consist of etc . whether it's a "fancy" set up or not. i think that would be interesting.
Did you grab the Paranoid Super Deluxe from a few years back? Pretty good set! Same packaging (box, book, poster, 4 discs).
I have it in album,8 Track,Cassette and CD,
Just started looking forward. Not my fave. But love enthusiasm. Was at 83. Gillan says this is supernaught. "Oh .. Good. Did they smoke when you seen em? Kinda liked it.. " Bruce fiend takeover artist. Borboning. Later. After shoveling ...
Yesno
Thanks Pete - always good stuff .....
I bought that Deluxe Box Set and it's good value for the collector. The hardcover book is high quality. Discs 1 & 4 are best in my opinion. Discs 2 & 3 are nice to have, but not essential. The live recording on disc 4 are worth the entire box set.
Very special album and the weird muddy sound is very much part of that unique experience. But I'm really looking forward to hearing those Steven Wilson remixes! I hope they do the same with the other Ozzy albums (and take their time getting it right as they did here!) that didn't get 'deluxe editions'. SBS is my favourite so a big box of that (with California Jam maybe?) would be great.
I’m intrigued
For me, it’s a massive 4 way tie between Paranoid, Master Of Reality, Vol 4 and Heaven And Hell. All truly great!
Maybe they will do this with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath? That's one of my favourites!
Wanted to know more what you think of the steven wilson mixing on the album compared to orginal or remaster. .
He didn’t remix the album. Only the outtakes.
@@sotdude7 Thanks for letting me know. Very unusual to just mix the out takes.
@@ukrocksounds3419 the original outtake mixes probably needed a lot of help!
There was a recent Black Sabbath album ranking on another youtube channel called Listography (it's awesome!).. I added my own ranking, and Vol. 4 came in as my second favorite record, after Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
If you're a fan, you must have this even if you have different versions or remaster of Vol.4. For the keen ear,the out takes, alternative versions etc. are all different or will always hear something new at every spin compared to the official release in addition the remaster is a monster sound.
Thank you, Pete. A fan of your channel. Love Sabbath and Ozzy. Well, this album has Changes and Laguna Sunset. Great album indeed. Snowblind as well.
Interesting that Steven Wilson who has been remastering everything prog is also on hand on this one. Surprised and not surprised I guess... when you are the
best at what you do.... well. They are selling this baby $ 79.00 Canadian on Amazon.ca. Great price. Had to pull the trigger.
Keep in mind he only remixed the outtakes
HELL YEAH ME TOO PETE AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE OF ALL THE 7 ALBUMS I HAVE OF SABBATH
Evening pete . I must say I do like a box set .they are very therapeutic and good for the soul althought pricy sometimes. . Looking forward to Jethro tulls A box set. . Just curious what system fo you play back your cds on . I am not a high fi snob but you have invested a lot of money on your passion like me Tim uk
Which songs on the live disk are from live at last and what is Unreleased? I'm most interested in that. Vol 4 is my favorite at well, just want to know if it's really worth it. I'd most likely go for the vinyl.
Hey Pete, Where is the Technical Ecstasy box set review ???
Pete, I am starting to check out the Melvins. What are your thoughts? What would you say is their most "radio friendly" stuff and maybe a count down...
Never really got into them, so can’t help you there.
Hi Pete love all your new videos etc Certainly got me through these weird times ,the fact you talk about certain albums & genres, awesome, thank you I'm a big Sabbath fan ,but just interested if you've ever delved into a Welsh band from the UK by the name of MAN (Deke Leneord) keep doin' what your doin' 😊
A bit, yes.
Damn it Pete, I bought this thing and there's no alternate take or false start/remix of FX. I was pretty disappointed.
This was just put up on Spotify but for some reason they only included the remastered album and the bonus content is missing. Bummer because I wanted to hear some of that stuff.
I got it yesterday!
Would love to get it but our audio company has been out of work for a year now
If there is a flat transfer direct from the analog master I'd be on board. Like Wilson did with some of the Yes albums. But if it's remastered, forget it. The '86 Castle remains the definitive CD pressing, warts and all, sounds identical to the vinyl.
On a good audiophile system, remasters are terrible. The older the CD pressing, the better, with the early Japanese CD pressings usually winning the day. I'll skip the digital compression. Analog compression was already applied during the original production process. Additional compression just squashes the entire presentation. Plus it can't be cranked. When you drill down into these classic albums on CD, unless you are listening with computer speakers, remasters are the worst.
To purchase old CD pressings, visit Discogs.com. Best site out there for those seeking the truest masterings to the original recordings.
My fav lp fav snowblind first heard 1980 reissue b side uk first side paranoid still my fav song snowblind
Do you know if the album remaster has been done by Steven Wilson or just the bonus CDs?
No bluray AUDIO! They should of had a 96khz-24bit 5.1 version.
Pete's dog!! Have a nice day everyone
The dog gave it a bad review. 3 poops down.
lol damn I was watching another video and as it was ending I was just wondering if you'd bought this, scrolled down my suggestions and there was your thumbnail lol that's the link us Vol.4bros have
I've got the vinyl. I'm good.
Well, they certainly know how to make money (actually more than how to make music, imho). $$$$$ cha-ching!
Metal Rules. How much did it cost. Who opened for them in 73. Iomi played in Tull
Mine has been shipped, but it hasn't arrived yet.
