  • This video was originally going to simply review the Sabotage Super Deluxe Edition Box Set but then I thought it would be good to look back at the original vinyl album and then the CD Remasters from 1996 and 2009.
In the video, I show you the booklets and the inside of the box set and give an overview of the album itself. I also recommend which version I feel is the best. My answer may surprise some of you.
I also give an honest opinion of what I think of the box set which is really a lost opportunity.
    In this video
The original vinyl on NEMS Records 1975
    CD Remaster 1996
    CD Remaster 2009

Hi great review. I was really going to take a hard pass on this set basically because the sound quality on my original Canadian Warner bros press and UK original Nems press are really fantastic. I also have two vinyl bootlegs of the very same live show which sound really great. As for the 7" single I have one that came with the BMG boxset Supersonic years. So I was really gonna pass this one by. I ended up with the cd version first and I was actually quite surprised by the sound of the remastering. But honestly I was more happy to have the tour program and book. Then I got the Vinyl copy of the boxset. I couldn't believe the difference in the quality of the over all packaging. The album sleeves to the booklets and and tour program and man they did a terrific replica of the 7" single. I was pleasantly surprised by the vinyl copy. So if anyone is reading these comments and maybe considering this boxset, the vinyl version is far superior to the cd version

Hi Phil. Have rewatched this and agree that Sabotage is by far the worse of the box set releases, and time has not changed my mind. To call a 7inch single as part of a four disc box set is unforgivable. The live stuff as you say is terrible. The actual albumof course fantastic but this sounds nowhere near the 2009 release in my opinion.

Curently hunting all these sets own. Im enjoying your honest reviews. I as rally looking for these to be definitive editions of the albums, but it doesnt look like thas the case. This one's only cost me £27 so it's not too bad, part of the collection.

  • @danielthomas7698

I have the 96 and 2009 don't own a turntable at the moment so the 96 will have to do Thanks for the review ❤

Great review and attention to detail Phil. I always favour the sound of VOL 4 on my vinyl from the seventies. Compression being the curse of some CD reproductions. They just don’t capture what Sabbath were about at that time. The thick , heavy primordial mix that comes through on Sabbath vinyl.

Great video. Thanks for sharing your insight. I bought Sabotage when it first came out in September 1975. After a few listens, it was my favorite album. Almost 50 years later it's still my favorite album. BTW - I also own numerous Sabotage remix versions and the behemoth Super Deluxe Box - both CD and vinyl.

Great, honest review. I bought the vinyl version. So hard to say what sounds best, unless you have all different versions to compare. These deluxe box sets should be the best of everything, especially for their price point. I just hope that effort is being made by these bands.
