    Ultimately the decision to cancel our Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV order came down to changes to the federal EV tax credit eligibility guidelines. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 eliminated the 200k unit cap for electric vehicles eligible, but added a new restriction which excludes EVs assembled outside of the US. On the bright side, VW will begin manufacturing EVs in Chattenooga, TN beginning this year. The new 2023 ID.4 is expected to be assembled at the new plant and will thus be eligible for the tax credit again.
    We decided to go with the ID.4 Pro S over the previously selected Pro opting this time for the luxurious features that come with the Pro S at a $5k premium (i.e. Leatherette seats, massaging seats, panoramic fixed glass roof).

    I want to note for next year it will be a tax credit not a rebate for your 2023 taxes. 2024 the incentive is knocked right off the price at the dealer. Not including the EV incentive that your state is doing. A lot of states have it knock off the price at the dealer as well.

    well I was in a similar situation with the ID.4 I reserved back in March of 2022 and lost the $7500 tax rebate. I had already locked in back on July 13 (grey RWD S model. So I figured Id let it play out to see what would happen, and today I received a message when I looked at my reservation that said I was being changed to a 2023 MY version and that I would need to reconfigure a new model an that I "would not lose my place in line". So I guess I'm back on the tax rebate and got to get a newer version with larger wheels and the same S edition except this time I chose whit with the grey/blue interior with the white accents which I LLOOOVVVEEE! So we will keep you informed. BTW this is the larger battery.

      @@BlakeCheck Thanks! My wife really likes the ID 4 and she wants the Pro S. This car seems like a steal at the entry models when you consider the CA and Fed tax credits. As you move up in trim, it starts to make less sense to me. Especially if you go AWD and lose About 25 miles. I’m still wrestling with the idea of buying one.

    • @BlakeCheck
      @BlakeCheck  Год назад

      I’m not an advocate for the AWD for that reason. More money for less range seems backwards to me. Also, if you don’t already have a Tesla, I think the Model Y is a better option if you can swing it, especially considering the new price cut. Only reason we’re considering the ID.4 is because we already have my model 3 which we can use for longer road trips. EA isn’t reliable enough at this point to consider ID.4 as your only EV imo.

      Not in my opinion. If you don’t care about the leatherette seats, or the sun roof, or slightly larger wheels, don’t get the Pro S. It will probably have slightly less range than the Pro bc of the extra weight. We’re just getting the Pro S bc my wife likes those things haha.

    Your new video prompted me to look again at the ID.4 for 2023. I reserved another one, and I hope it doesn’t get delivered until January when the better tax credit takes effect. While each choice costs more than the 2022s, at least at the higher levels there’s more equipment (heated rear sears, parking assist, lighted rear VW logo). Plus I like the dark interior better (no brown) and it looks like they eliminated a lot of the piano black surfaces that everyone complained about.

Charging anxiety on trips which includes crowded and out of order changers, cost of updating home electric to handle lev 2, mild recession and maybe not being able to use tax credits at that time. Saying all that I still have a bug for this. Again, I love the channel. I still have to ask about the tax credit, is it not correct that the tax credit applies to your own specific tax liability? For example: if I have a $1,500 tax liability I will only get that $15,00 wiped off of my fed tax nothing more once I file. So, when people say the car could potentially be less than 40K and could be $33K. That's just a little disingenuous - I think on the part of the government. If I owe the government $7,500 then that would be wiped out. It's not a down payment on the car, it's not a rebate and you can't use it again once you take advantage of tax credit.

      The new tax credit which starts in January is $7,500 for everyone, regardless of what your tax liability is. So that’s good. Those cars have to be built in North America for now and eventually have their batteries sourced here, too. The problem with the new law is that the existing tax credits (refundable when you file your taxes) no longer exist. That’s why a lot of people are waiting to purchase an EV in 2023.
