I'm a qualified hairdresser but back at college, we never learnt all these techniques. I love coming to RUclips to see new ways of applying colour. I scroll through and your videos always stand out! Thanks for taking the time to share your work. You're a creative genius! Looks amazing!! 👏 x
I've been using a few of your techniques lately in the salon and my blonding services have 1) gotten faster and 2) been coming out better!! I've been out of school and in a salon for almost two years and a half now but didn't really work in a busy salon until November of last year and watch your videos has made me become a lot more confident in myself and my work and I love the price break down because I find myself, when it comes to pricing feeling bad and cheating myself for charging a lot for hours and hours of work to where I did 6 hours of work and only charged $250. So I really do appreciate it seeing it and it being explained! Thank you!
Oh geez, see! $250 is like the magic number that stylists are afraid to charge over. Charge your worth! I’m glad to hear your more confident in your work!
Thank you so much for talking about pricing! That is definitely my downfall. I always feel so guilty to charge more. Even though everything has went up on our end… Everything from foil to hair color.❤️❤️❤️
I love when you explain price and why you charge your worth, it’s so easy to work more and charge less, especially as an empath! Thank you for posting and being honest with us!
The fact that you’re so generous and share your amazing talent deserves a thank you I’ve commented on a few of your videos. I may have commented on this one before, but I like that you’re not afraid to talk about pricing and everything you do and I like to watch you finish the hair as well, I’m getting back in to women’s hair after a 12 year break
I am loving your channel and I just love your style and personality AND I just love your work! I am a fellow seasoned stylist. Soooo, I just felt compelled to support your quest to $100 an hour. In fact, I challenge you to skip all the pricing and join the tribe of a straight hourly rate charge.....PEROID! The last 5+ years of color techniques makes it Nearly IMPOSSIBLE to forecast what will be needed in steps, product and time. Shoot for $115 an hour for all your services. You my dear are WORTH it!
Omg, thank you so much! That really means the most! Especially coming from someone whos been in the industry! Thank you so much for watching and your kind thoughts ♥️♥️♥️
@hairbyKristiJennings Beautiful color! I found your page looking for ideas for my own hair, and this came out gorgeous. Love how thick and healthy her hair is and the color is so complimentary. I love dimensions and lows / highs. I also have been steering away from being all over blondet tones to putting icier blonde, with warmer mid and deeper browns with VB red mixed in. She did level and 2/3 I think (but the 2 is too dark and looks almost black indoors but you can see that luscious red outside) and when I curl it. I want to do something similar to what we did but I am not sure if I will get that same red if she goes lighter on the brown level. Any thoughts. I think the salon uses L'Oreal colors and another brand. My natural color is more of a or 5 / 6. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the same red without having to go to level 2 /3 with VBR? I know she went deep to keep it from fading since reds are difficult. This summer she did use the same red to touch up the roots and it is not the color I want all over in my low lights, it is too light and not that deep cherry. Thanks L
Brilliant steps broken down! I LOVE 💕LOVE the breakdown of pricing and the realness! ( back room talk it through to self!). Way to open up the reality and YES GIRL- raise those prices! You’re really worth it! I wish I regulated that during my hairdressing career better- now that I’m semi-retired- looking back ... yep! My body pains are worth it enough!

Thank you for normalizing the fear of charging! I’m an in home salon stylist and it’s always a worry for me that I’m not charging enough but also don’t want to overcharge. I also use olaplex AND blond me.
Kristi..you have taught this older stylist SO MUCH with your videos and I really appreciate that you want to share your skillzzz 😋 Thank u thank u!! Also..I’d love to see the teasy technique 🤘🏻
Yes, thank you for sharing. I am stylist for over 19 years, and I truly want to be more about highlighting and color, at my home salon. I would love to hear more about setting pricing. This makes me cringe thinking about what the client will say, but at the same time, I do not want to under charge. Well, GBU and thanks for the great content.
I'm so glad you feel the need to break down price! It definitely isn't brought up often enough in the RUclips hair videos so clients that watch these hair tutorials and videos think it's just simply under 200 for this amount of work and effort is crazy! Thanks for the detailed info and video!
You did such a great job! Your client had a lot of hair and also very long hair so that added to the time. In the end I hope the client was happy. Yes, $450 is undercharge. I’d say $600 would’ve been fair. You used a lot more products and it took you extra time because of her long and thick hair. Thank you for sharing your experience.
She’s adorable, girl I love how genuine and real you are. Lots of RUclipsrs seem to overdo it in terms of editing, dialogue, etc… starts to seem fake/corny.. “smash that like button” type shit.. ugh I hate hearing that. But you’re 100% real and it’s a really good look. I actually AM gunna smash that like button for once
And you are very well-spoken and seem extremely knowledgeable in your industry. Not a hair dresser myself. But loved learning from you. Way to break down those barriers and not be afraid to speak on taboo topics like pricing. Who cares if there is a stigma not to talk about something. That means, it needs to be talked about. IMO
I showed a friend of mine your videos recently who is in Paul Mitchell hair school and now they’re all watching them for educational videos and running a playlist on the big screen which I thought was so cool
Oh WOW Kristi amazing 👏🏼👍 absolutely needed this as I'm back to work after having my " phantom retirement " for the last 4 months on Monday UK😫 the result was flawless and so pretty 😍 thank you for sharing your breakdown I'm thinking I need to move to USA 😉🤣 I worked on a client last year and it took me 9 hours and I ended up loosing money after the cost of colour olaplex etc not to mention felt like I'd ran a marathon doing it 🙄 let's just say next time I'm shown a picture from Instagram I'm heading for the hills😉😳🤣 at least I've since learnt how to charge appropriately 😳🤣 take care Kristi thanks a million and you look great 😘❤️xx
Happy out of retirement! Not going to lie, I enjoyed my quarantine last year! And yes, charge hourly for those services, they are way too time consuming and not worth it to lose money on! Happy to see you!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and pricing. As a client i now understand y it costs as much as it does. I wish I had u to do my hair. Thr lady I went to still had my hair brassy after 2 sessions. I wouldn't mind the level if it wldve been ashier. Also I wanted something more like this and blended instead of the whole bottom blonde. So when i wear my hair up it looks really weird the whole top is dark and whole ponytail is blonde
I appreciate you talking about pricing and timing. The way we do hair 2day is so much more involved than it was 10+ yrs ago. Its hard getting that thru to the front desk at times because they have no clue what some of these services take. Let alone online booking. The receptionist's be like, "I gave you plenty of time (2 1/2 hrs total)." Meanwhile they have more hair than 10 ppl combined, long and they want it as blond as possible. It's so frustrating.
This is just a thought.. I feel like when people say they want there hair darker, they just want the warm tones chancelled out... Love your videos! I love hair chatting
Kristi- I LOVE watching you do hair! AND listening to you and learning! The way you explain everything you’re using and WHY and then how it works with the hair and the end goal is awesome! Sooo you tipped out her ends so the bottom is lighter but still with dimension? New stylist here and learning new techniques and what those techniques look like in the final result. Love your videos 🙏🏼
I LOVE LOVE this video!!!! It is awesome that you explained everything your were doing and fixed the mistake you noticed and went back to correct. I love the work you do! This is something I’m looking for!
Love, love all your content so far this is the second video I’ve watched and I’ve learned a lot! From coloring, consult, to pricing . I had to sub right after watching the first video which was over an hr long long but worth every second of it I was pausing and rewinding to make sure I didn’t miss anything 😅. I’m going back to cosmetology school, starting this Tuesday after Labor Day wish me luck 🍀. Keep making great videos thanks for all the help!!!
Thank you for talking about price. It is a lot of work and this helped to give me a realistic expectation on what this type of service may cost to have done. You are awesome!
I just love watching u work! Ur like Picasso painting 🎨 & creating ur masterpieces!!! AND ur price was AMAZING for 5.5 hrs, so she did get a deal! Absolutely beautiful ❤😘🌹!!!

Thanks a lot for sharing steps by steps for hairstylist like me that don't have much experience in haircoloring.I appreciate it very much.Hope you do more of steps by steps. Thank you again.❤❤❤
I had the same question too! Was the root shadow the same color formulation as those darker pieces? Love you love your channel! I’m completely obsessed 😍💜
Love this woman you're truly one of the best on utube I've seen, that's my story and I'm sticking to it ,beautiful beautiful outcome as always thank you for all that you share and instructions 💜
Thanks for all the tips. It turned out really pretty and I appreciate your videos. I bought the Wow comb but the handle snapped off the first time I used it. The teeth are much wider than a regular comb, and I feel like it worked pretty good before it snapped (without much tension btw). It broke right where the handle connects to the comb, so now the roller falls straight out and it's useless. I don't know if I just got a dud, but I kinda think its overrated. I didnt achieve a different result than I did with a regular comb.
At the beginning of the video , I as like "what is she doing?" but watching it to the end, I loved the style and the simple but effective way you were doing the hair and the way you explained everything ,step by step, toner, root shadow, what shades to use and the like etc ... I will raise my own prices, I always undercharge and been told by a few clients that i do their hair on regular basis... so Thank You so much for your video, I loved it !
Great video and beautiful result. I also love how you talked about pricing, it’s definitely something most of us struggle with. New subscriber here! 😬❤️
So six weeks ago I had gotten an all over dark hair color to even out my tone two weeks after that I was able to get my highlights (balayage). Here it is 4 1/2 weeks later and my hair color has lightened a lot and it’s gotten brassy now that I want the haircolor back without ruining my highlights what is she going to do or how is she going to do that please let me know before I have to go do this so I can understand
If you had a darker put on over highlights then your hair , anyones hair, will always fade brassy. Even with toner, it's not permanent so over time it will still fade brassy. She could go thru and foil some darker or ashier colors thru your hair to cool it down or add more depth but just know that will fade too. I hope I was understanding you correctly!
It's normal because you where dark before so the underlying pigment comes always back as the toner washes out. She could do a new toning so that it gets colder or she can lighten up some of the highlights again that it looks more cool. Or do a wet Balayage that it appears lighter and then tone it again. You always have to tone its like make up. It perfects your already light hair that it looks cooler or warmer what ever you want. Hope that helps.
I would like to know why one shouldn’t use permanent dyes for the shadow root? I know Demi dye is used and preferred. But I’d so appreciate a breakdown of that 😅
I would love to know as well .. but I guess is because they want to avoid the harsh line you get when your hair is growing ? …. Here I’m learning how to do the root shadow (I ‘ll do it with permanent cause I got red hot roots when I tried to dye my hair with permanent box dye… and the toner didn’t work for the roots 😫
Yes, talk price and time. Beautiful job!! I have had “go rounds” with receptionist and coworkers in the past, who believe that charging for a toner is being greedy! One receptionist even argued that it’s not their fault they need a toner. Well it certainly isn’t mine. Id be happy to give them a color that didn’t need toner. But, it’s not the color they want! Clients need to be educated. Thank you!!!!More time, more product= more money.
I feel like I can achieve this now because your tutorials are so great! I’m trying to get better at color and you my friend are most definitely helping me! ❤️ I would love to be worth a $450 charge!
Hello, I was just wondering if you ended up toning with 9pa, 10pa, 10v and a little rose gold? Thats what you had said, but when you said the ratios you said diff toners so I wanted to make sure. Thanks!! 😊
This is amazing Kristi, so glad I found you on RUclips! Used this exact technique today and achieved absolutely flawless results! Thank you so much! Love your videos🤩💗
How do we wash the hair after coloring. I’ve seen several videos and non of them shows cause I don’t want the top hair to bleed in bottom hair when washing.
I think 2 years before it was no bond builder inside the blond me but now it is so you waste your olaplex and could use instead only the number 2 from Fibreplex. And it could cause more warmth.
HI, I have used the Schwarzkopf lighteners with and without bond builder - however I never tried it with Olaplex; I use B3 and have found that adding it slows the process and somewhat reduces the lift when used with Igora Vario Blond super plus, so I would use perhaps more saturation to get equivalent lift; I think it is useful when one is overlapping previously bleached hair, and not as necessary on healthy virgin hair.
Awesome job I love it! Can you do one with more depth highlights on like dark hair #4 level and go alittle higher on the highlights , just alittle higher but same technique as this one. Excellent job ❤️🩷💜😃😃!!

Absolutely amazing. I probably watched this 5 times!
Great video and beautiful result. I also love how you talked about pricing, it’s definitely something most of us struggle with. New subscriber here! 😬❤️
Thanks for the great video ❤
You did a fantastic job, I really learned a lot and enjoyed watching as well.
Qué hermoso quedó!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
My Wow comb handle broke in half when using it. I have been using the iBlend brush by Olivia garden. Bought it at CosmoProf.
Oh geez that sucks! Good to know!
@@hairbykristijennings6648 lol I was like wow! 😆
You are brilliant I learned a lot thank you xxx
I got a WOW comb dupe from Amazon for like 5-6$ and it works really well!
Outstanding job!
Thank you!
Yes, talk price and time. Beautiful job!! I have had “go rounds” with receptionist and coworkers in the past, who believe that charging for a toner is being greedy! One receptionist even argued that it’s not their fault they need a toner. Well it certainly isn’t mine. Id be happy to give them a color that didn’t need
toner. But, it’s not the color they want! Clients need to be educated. Thank you!!!!More time, more product= more money.
You are a Godsend!! You are an absolute phenomenal hairstylist!!
Wow you literally amazing 😻
I'm an instructor I love the end conversation. No one I know says the truth I appreciate you
Love it! Would you still do the steps this way if they wanted grey coverage and were needing to use permanent?
I would probably apply the grey coverage then go thru and do the balayage….
This is gorgeous you did an amazing job!
This is absolutely gorgeous ❤
You are the BEST thank you ❤ I wish I knew enough English to understand what you saying 😟
LOVE LOVE YOUR WORK!!!
Thank you!
What toner did you use on the blonde my lovely xx
Personally I think you under charged her for everything you did! The final result looks amazing!!
Agree! way undercharged. I would not do that for under six hundred
This video 🙌🏼🙌🏼 what kind of bleach do you recommend for dark level 3 hair
This bleach! Schwarzkopf always gets great lift, with 20 vol
How do we wash the hair after coloring. I’ve seen several videos and non of them shows cause I don’t want the top hair to bleed in bottom hair when washing.
Great technique definitely helps me a lot.
Kristi, you are a talented hairdresser and artist! I love this! So beautiful!!
I think 2 years before it was no bond builder inside the blond me but now it is so you waste your olaplex and could use instead only the number 2 from Fibreplex. And it could cause more warmth.
I still use it and feel like it's double protection. When I haven't used it, I wish I did.
@@hairbykristijennings6648 ok and do you never feel like it dilutes it and causes more warmth?
HI, I have used the Schwarzkopf lighteners with and without bond builder - however I never tried it with Olaplex; I use B3 and have found that adding it slows the process and somewhat reduces the lift when used with Igora Vario Blond super plus, so I would use perhaps more saturation to get equivalent lift; I think it is useful when one is overlapping previously bleached hair, and not as necessary on healthy virgin hair.
I really like your videos thanks
Awesome job I love it! Can you do one with more depth highlights on like dark hair #4 level and go alittle higher on the highlights , just alittle higher but same technique as this one. Excellent job ❤️🩷💜😃😃!!
Licensed stylist here. Loved your technique and how her color came out! Absolutely beautiful 😍!!! And thank you for sharing your pricing. I wish I could charge that amount. I live in a city of 6500 for population with 8 salons and 3 barber shops. And surrounded with two cities with numerous salons. My prices are so low.
What root shadow color did you use in the last step? It’s gorgeous!
Sorry! The same color as what I used adding dimension back into the hair…
I like you video and like how you explain about pricing I have been a hair stylist for very long and still not sure about prices you help me all the way work and everything else
