- step-by-step tutorial on how to do the mohawk section (part line) of lowlights + highlights with lightener and color from Sally's.
*formulas:
lowlights: Generic Demi Permanent Color in 8N 1oz + 1 oz processing solution
highlights: Quick White powder bleach 1 oz + 2 oz of 20-volume developer
*steps:
1- part your hair where you always part it (for reference, I am using a middle part)
2- make a rectangle section with your part line in the middle of the rectangle
3- take a horizontal subsection towards your forehead- leave out the hairline (I did not leave the hairline out in this video; I was blending in a money piece. Normally, I would leave it out)
4- take a small slice off the top of your horizontal subsection and weave it (up, down, up, down, up, down motion grabbing what is on top of the comb) or using a very thin slice (no weaving)
5- apply the color or lightener starting in the middle and taking the brush vertical at the top to make a "grass effect" (product should not extend past the foil)
6- fold foil, repeat until you get to the back of the head (I alternated brown, blonde, brown, blonde, brown, blonde)
7- at the very back of the head, you can change direction and fold the foil the opposite way to avoid the hair being over directed too much
8- process according to the manufacturers directions of the color (please note most of the time when you are bleaching your hair you WILL need a toner- I did not use a toner in this video but it needs a toner as it pulled yellow, in the future I will tone with a color that has a base of violet)
*timestamps:
lowlight formula: 0:24
lightener formula: 1:15
first foil: 1:35
teased highlights (for a natural "grown out" look): 3:56
quick finish: 4:21
very back of section: 5:19
spraying out lightener foils: 6:19
before and after: 6:53
