Brutus needs a companion , if them Bears & Coyotes start messing around the farm, 2 Guardian Dogs are better than 1
❤agree two for sure
Have you considered getting a post hole digger/auger? I really look forward to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It's must see TV!
An auger would break quite often with all the rocks they have!!
I never thought of that. Thanks for the insight.
Al & Gina, I follow about a dozen homesteaders, van lifers, and adventurers on RUclips and I must say your channel is my favorite.
Good morning Al & Gina. I love the way Brutus is taking to all the animals. Seems so natural ... 😍 I was hoping for a positive result with Azalea. Can't wait for the news!
HEY! Good morning Al , Gina and Olivia! Don't put your rain jacket away Al !!

Good morning, Chris!
I bet you are glad you got a cab for your 🚜 tractor, especially when it's cold or rainy. My dad had cabs on all his Case tractors. You still sound positive even when ie. belts break, etc. That's a great outlook.😊
We have been down with both mowers because of belts! Our finish mower and our Kabuta belly mower belt! t least we are between rains and could with for shipping.
Now we can see with our own eyes how some folks run pipes through their manure piles 16:25 to get nature's heat with some sort of heat exchanger to use in the fall and winter to keep greenhouses warm
Perfect reason to start a manure pile up by the secret garden besides the fact they have them so far away.
Hi Sam! That's a great idea. They could extend their growing season that way! I found a family to stay with that are wonderful. I feel a lot better being here! Life is good. I'm so blessed. I hope you stay blessed too! It's always so wonderful to see your comments here on the channel! Kudos!
Goooood morning from East TN. Have a great day everyone!!
Good Morning Ron
Hi Al & Gina old new ideal ground driven . there so simple, easy to work, easy to work on. We had one for years. Love halls channel. I'm from South Central KY next to Tenn line.
Good Morning Al & Gina. I'm thinking you can put the blade of the excavator behind you for better leverage when you're trying to dig straight down. I Hope that helps. I Hope You Have a Better Day, Boscawen, NH
It was neat to see the Bear, but I hope it stays in your woods. I have seen picture the past few yrs. where a Bear was spotted in our area, South Central KY. Getting a little too close for comfort! it was so cute seeing Brutus interact with the piglets. Like they were trying to play! LOL!
Nice, cool seeing bears and turkeys.
Al a you tuber did a comparison test of concreting posts into the ground with mixing your own gravel and cement with water. Wet premix concrete, and then dry fill and adding water (as you've just done) the result was best own mix very hard wetted premix moderately hard dry mix very soft and didn't really hold the post that well thought you might be interested the site in question is proper DIY if you want to check it out anyway another great video 😊
Great video Lumnahs
I think the blade at the back is better for digging.... 🙂 @8:02
No, better at front for what Al was digging.
@@tonygrimes13
Sorry Tony I agree with Robert !
With push blade in front operator gets whiplash when digging, the ground was Not exceptionally hard, cause Al approached backwards !

Brutus is a big fuzzy dirty fur ball and he has already bonded with his barn mates from the looks of it. It will be a foolish predator indeed that even thinks of bothering any of his buddies. Do you need a license to shoot a bear that encroaches on your homestead or are you able to dispose of it if you need to at any time of the year? I think that the moose are more of a danger than the bears though, your thoughts.
I only know Moose are somewhat protected in New Hampshire, with certain Counties issuing tags that are only available if winning lottery, and if winning lottery, it can be a Tag good for only the specified county, ( Al explained on Pod-Cast ) but Tag can be returned - rejected, so that another could harvest the Moose Tag, don't know about Bear Tags or if Nusance allows exceptions !
You can never have too many spares when you need them, and never enough safe, accessible, easily found, locations, when you need to find them for use.
Are you recommending Hundreds of spares or in the Thousands ?
Cause having the spares of everything, would by default make locating a needed spare, a chore in it of itself !
Richard; You must be a Warehouse salesman, or a parts supply salesman !

It's pretty cool how these days you can do a pregnancy test on a cow. In the old days, they just had to wait and put it in God's hands to see!
With the bears hanging around, I hope you go armed!
Go bring the vet out and do a test.
Brutus is the big brother to the other animals.
Just for S & G,
Try a regular human pregnancy test. Just for the heck of it
With that pregnancy test kit for Azalia, it sounded like you should have re-checked the T-line after another half-hour or so, since it sounded like they were making allowances for different testing conditions. It sounded like the fastest you could expect a result to be visible was 20 minutes, and that after 50 minutes, the result, if any, should be fully visible.
I agree Al is impatient. Should have waited another 3o mins.
I bet they did check after 50 minutes and it just got cut out during editing. You saw him set the timer for 20 minutes, _a_ timer go off, the results checked once, but any amount of time could have gone on in between. Al's a really good editor and it looks seamless but if you look, there's cuts. So could be, could not be, can't tell from the video evidence;)
@@mariadelaney7179 Watch again!!!
Also Any amount of a line visible at all means positive. You wouldn't see it where it goes as Gina was saying if it wasn't positive that line would not be visible at all
Maybe Azalea is just getting Fat !
Hello, Gina and Al. I look forward to any shots of Brutus interacting with his barn friends, and the scene in your last video of him racing around Cookie and Azealia in the pasture is delightful!
Good Morning Brian. Yea it is fun watching Brutus with all the livestock
The old antique manure spreaders I had were kind of clunky and did not spread evenly. I would look for one that spreads even coverage across the field

Brutus and all his buds. LOL. He is still such a puppy. Handsome boy
Good morning Lumnah family. Well shot. Hoped the test would light up for she's pregnant. Work on the homestead never ends. Thank you sharing with us.
Good Morning Thanks. We were too
I once lived on property rockier than Lumnah acres....an oldtimer taught me to build rock gabion fence corners and gate post hangers. They will last for centuries.
Cool but Lumnah Acres has house sized Rocks and everything smaller, So I wonder !
@4Classie bowling ball and slightly smaller makes the easiest to build gabions as one can lift unassisted. Limnah's got enough of those...
@@et5222 Agreed, Firstly Al should never stockpile all sizes together ( he has a abundant land area, unconditionally ) plus less drainage gravel with instead throwing Rock sized in the ditch dug, in area where drainage for hydrants was needed, that would extend endurance due to increased amounts of voids in that backfilled area, that Al needed for when hydrants to do their anti-freeze-draining !
Just saying Al should use every opportunity to home Rocks, cause building with rocks is time consuming ( not a woodworkers happy work ) but climbing thru Rocks to gather specific sizes is wasteful and has hazards, not to mention Snakes !
Al , I wonder of that Bear had something to do with scaring George that night?
That's what I was thinking too
Wasn't that the "pig" side???
Brutus is so funny playing with the animals what a great addition to the family love the interaction
You picked the perfect livestock guardian dog for your farm. Brutus seems to love all of your animals. Time will tell if he can protect them from all the predators in the area. He should be able to handle the coyotes but I’m not sure if he can handle the bears. I think he will do just fine. I think a PTO driven manure spreader would be the best option for your farm. I’ve used both types and I prefer the PTO over the wheel driven manure spreaders.
The major key to mowing is "cut high and dry". Not too short and not too wet. The wet grass makes twice as much work for the machine. (Hence burning through belts, etc.)
Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians!

Hi guys, hope all is well? Is it worth setting up a camera so you can see how close the bear gets to the livestock? Perhaps it would be a good idea to keep the gun handy and keep a couple of thunder flashes handy to scare it off if it gets too close? Keep safe and enjoy the summer!

How cute is that ‼️
Brutus and his pig friends ❤
He's sure the right puppy for bonding with the other animals! He's just so loving.
The barn clean out was a perfect use case for the farm truck, I bet you could have put all of it in one load, then dumped it on the new pile. I bet you're looking forward to getting that running.
You should put a little barn lime down after you clean the stalls, it doesn’t have to be much, like a dusting. It will keep the bacteria down and will help Azalea from getting mastitis. Hopefully you get Azalea figured out soon so she can get bred if she needs it. Like your Barn setup!!
It’s such a joy to watch Brutus getting acquainted with all the different animals and really enjoying himself. He’s a happy pup! Your place is like a little oasis for natural wildlife and they’re young and I’m glad that you share that with us I really enjoy seeing that. Slice of heaven on earth!
Brutus is so cute playing with the baby pigs ❤
Gooood morning Lumnah's... Brutus is the "Man"! He is a friend and protector to the homestead, aswell, a lurpy ball of joy! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Al, if you locate the plow of the Bobcat towards the back, when you dig, you'll be less likely to pull yourself forward as far as it will act as an anchor in the back, whereas it's lifting off the ground 8:30 when you're digging hard as we can see from the video
Agree 👍🏼! Good morning Sam my dear friend I pray you have a blessed weekend my friend! 😁👍🏼
Sam Hoodie, have a great weekend
Actually, the reverse is true. Blade in front still acts as weight to hold the vehicle down, and blade into the ground out front (slightly raising the machine) acts to keep the machine from pulling forward with the digging action. Blade to the rear will not do that. What's going on here is he's digging DOWN too hard, which is not what the machine is designed for. A post hole augur is the right tool. (but they are not cheap)
@@CC-Rider4564 - Thank you CC my friend! You too!
@@ericwilliams1964 - Thanks Lloyd - you too!
All in all, the dirt in the area you dug for the pole doesn't look as bad nor as rocky as some areas youve dug. If you can muster a compost tea system for your composting manuer piles then spray diluted compost tea in your compacted areas, you will begin to get the soil critters doing thier thing towards lossening you compacted areas. Also consider moving your compost piles around towards building better pasture grounds as opposed to just to the side and out of the way.
I think he puts the compost piles just off the road so he doesn't tear up his pasture by running the tractor on the soft and grassy land. He wants to avoid compacting the pastures he's growing. It's a good idea to have the piles in different areas to spread the love and make the soil happy. Have a great weekend!
@@StoneKathryn yes, I had not thought well enough about soil compaction due to running the equipmemt on it. Parasite load is often the reason many say they dint do it. Compost tea is done by many though with different sprayer systems as well as using a manuer spreader.
Bear taste better when you’re protecting your livestock lol
Hi, You're doing a great job. As a retired dairy farmer, you may want to check out a PTO manure slinger. Manure comes out the side. Have a great day! Steve and Sarah
I sure hope you guys are packing some sort of protection such as a firearm to protect yourself from the bears.
They can be very unpredictable and are not deterred by electric fences.

Use caution with red heat lamps for turkeys. It sometimes causes them to peck each other, causing serious injury.

Good Morning David. Hopefully it cools off soon for you
Al... I had wondered about bears in your area. I'd like to suggest you add a donkey to your family. Donkeys are very protective of their territory & kill bears that invade their space. I had wondered if a bear didn't spook George. You want a full size donkey... Not the mini...because they do more damage.
Good morning, David! I hear you with regards to temperature extremes! When it's really hot outside it's like walking inside an oven!

@ 17:35 a bear maybe spooked the bull that broke out and broke it's neck ??
Hey Al, I'm thinking you should get a small front unload manuar spreader , you won't be sorry! When you spread manuare on to your pastures, you want it as fine and spread out the best you can.. other manuar spreaders will leave clumps.. and front unload spreders have knives and chops up hay n straw that's a little coarse yet. It will be way better for your grass fields and less loss of nitrogen ..any questions hmu I was a dairy farmer for alot of years..lol
Can’t the York spreader work? Yes I’m a novice.
@cortneyking2489 any spreader will work, you just don't want clumps falling off the sides. If you load it really light you can probably get it done decently. I just looked up a front spreader. Wow did they go up in price since we bought ours 🤦♂️
Hey Farmer Al, I hope Brutus doesn't see his "friends" go to freezer land. I know my cats get really sad when they lose companions.

Good Morning Al and Gina and Olivia 💗😊💛🌺🦎🐓🇯🇲🐈
Good morning Al, Gina, Olivia and all the Lumnah friends and extended family.
Good morning, Robert!
I'm definitely a PTO driven spreader fan, pair it with the hydrostatic drive on the tractors and you will have infinite spread rates. It's a whole lot easier doing it with 2 tractors. One stays hooked to the spreader the other loads, however you could use the Trackhoe to do the loading and leave the spreader hooked to the TYM. The other option would be a tiny spreader for behind the Kubota and load with the TYM. It would take a couple of trips before the pile would be gone but it wouldn't take long. Given how much you will be spreading you don't need a massive spreader. A smaller single axle would be easier to load. So I would recommend picking the spreader size on ease of loading for you. Given the small amount of spreading you would be doing, I would recommend going with a used spreader if you can find one.
Sounds lie good advice. Have a great weekend!
Just an idea. When you have to order parts for your equipment, start an equipment parts log. That way in the future, if parts are needed. You’ll have a list of parts numbers, brands, sizes for your different implements.
Good idea. Have a wonderful weekend!

What do you think about a small window into the chicken brooder?
Unnecessary as they have a door also with a window you cannot see into the corners of either side of window so would have to open door to do so!!!!
I've used a mini-ex to dig holes for my solar array, and it was really hard to get a nice vertical hole. You might think about getting an augur attachment for one of your tractors. They make perfect holes in just a couple of minutes. If you are going to keep cattle, you need some fences stronger than T posts and electric wire.
And what would all their rocks do to the auger?
@@tonygrimes13
I put in about 300 chain link fences posts several years back with a two-man auger, and we have rocks too. Augers are tough. They lift out rocks small enough to come out. They steer the hole to the side if the rock is bigger. They help you dig up large rocks. I did sharpen and weld on the blades every night after the digging was done, but no blades were broken. The augers that attach to a tractor are even stronger. That's what the pros use.
Wrong Guy; And I read both your comments, problem is that Al tried when installing the Solar Panels near house, the Augers kept deforming, so Al was forced to dig a ditch, then back fill the ditch with dirt, then used the Auger Anchors, to then build the Solar Array; of note the posts were the type with auger, so drill-in to depth and done, then build Solar Array on top, if you notice the Solar Array at bottom corner, an auger anchor has settled - sunk a bit, and Al started at that area and drilled-in a few of the Auger Anchors, and his problems started after a few were set, to fix ( if it gets worse ) is to remove sections from bottom area and reinstall them extending top area of the Solar Array !
No Auger drills thru Rocks the size of Houses, or the size of a Truck, Al has both largest sizes in his Farm and every size smaller, even had the same 'White Mountain' Range Rocks at his other Homestead, so all his neighbors have similar gigantic Rocks !
No joke he has a gigantic Rock 4 story tall and just as big on bottom, squared, it is split thru, so a walkway separated into two masses !
