You have all those rocks by the house. After they are all fixed, I would recommend using more of those stones to re-enforce the head stones and widen that area to keep from washing back out.

Al, you're going to need about 70 cu yd of material less the large boulders. That is not factoring in the space that the culvert itself is taking up. If the trucks are hauling 10 yards a load, you will need 6 or 7 loads total.

Just harvested second picking of hot banana peppers, first picking of bell peppers, picked 3 bushels of cukes Sunday. Need to go and pick those again, I like them small enough I do not have to slice them to pickle them. Picked broccoli last week. have a few heads I left to grow out more. Need to pin the cauliflower leaves. Growing non blanching ones next year. This is my first year growing tomatillos. Really shocked at how hardy they are. Put spindly little plants in the ground and now they are big and full of flowers and little tomatillos. God is good!!!🌄😊

Hi Damogran Heart! It must be hot in the Twin Cities today! I'm hanging out in the casino air conditioning. I can use their wi-fi here. The library put something on their wi-fi connection that won't let my computer connect to it. I can only use their computers and they time me out. It's some type of pop-up window that says their rules for internet use that my machine can't navigate. I'm borrowing a Linux machine from my brother-in-law and I've tried to make changes to make it connect but I'm not successful yet and it's hard for him to find the problem over the phone! He's still got to take my computer to work and try to repair it there. He found the chip that burnt out when my sister's flower vase fell over and dumped water on it on Mother's Day! He says it's a 50/50 chance he can solder the new chip in and get it working again. I trust him to repair it better than anyone else so 50/50 is fine with me. I'm just hoping I get the successful 50%! Have a great day!

It's a bit muggy in the Cities for my taste. I'm walking to the Open Cupboard where I work as a volunteer this afternoon. I will be able to get a ride home, so that will be lovely. I've been gardening, but not at home. The first garden was a friend whose gardens were going to be on a tour. The other was holding a graduation party, which involved several days of work. I'm knackered!

@@StoneKathryn Kathryn count yourself as very lucky if you have people you can count on.. The older I get the Fewer I have and honestly its concerning. Not to mention the world we live in is often unfair and unjust... BUT the bright side is as bad as life might be we only have to endure it for about 100 years at most... and Eternity will wipe all of this away like a flicker of light.. our souls will be calm and we will live in peace with God. But God says even in this life we should not worry.. for me that is difficult i worry so much and so often about so many things. God is not a Mystery to me like he is to many.. I have zero doubt he exists.. I know no person is without sin and we are all equal in God's Eyes and as Jesus Taught in Mathew 6 what God requires of us is only that we Believe in him and that we Forgive Others so we shall be forgiven. When we pray we do it in private with our own words contritely like we are speaking to our best friend... because thats who God is.. he is the best friend to all of us.
God is simple to understand.. If someone tells you they have the Secret they are lying.. no one can forgive your sins or cast you down for your sins.. because we are all equal. We're scumbags every last one of us. The pope, ministers, imams, rabbis.. all of us are equally condemned to hell ...
And all God asks is that you believe in him.. and forgive everyone you possibly can for everything.. because there are debts we all have to pay. And that debt is repaid by forgiving others.
That way one day you stand before God and say .. yeah i am a sinner.. I'm a scumbag.. I made bad choices.. and some of them maybe even on purpose. But I tried my best to forgive.. Because my soul is not worth giving up to hold on to that hate... And the ones I can't forgive because I forgive and they cause me harm again over and over.. you ask God to help with that and he will.
Theres no secret.. no sacrificing goats.. no spinning around 5 times and praying to mecca ... no confessing your sins to someone as sinful as you are.. no repetitious prayers or secret handshakes... no tipping the door man at heaven's gate that will get you in...
      Just Belief.. Forgiving.. and Prayer.
Thats not everything life is.. but you get that right and you'll be ok. Remember God is our friend.. he knows your thoughts.. and he created us and loves us. He is my best friend. that is for sure.

Do you think that installing them with locking nut would help reduce the amount of knives that you have to replace each time that you mow with it? Just an observation from a man with over forty years of experience with heavy equipment. Hope this helps by saving you a few bucks.

Setting in the new culvert, you should use very coarse gravel, then concrete onto the gravel, to make the culvert a MASSIVE piece, and get the plastic culvert to become a liner for a poured concrete culvert. You'll want to use the largest stones you can, then add gravel and sand, using the plate compactor to get the smaller pieces of rock to settle firmly into place before putting in dry concrete to help stabilize the road bed before you put the top layer of gravel on and hit it with the plate compactor. Stabilizing the ends of the culverts with the largest rocks you can position reliably will help prevent further washouts.
Fine sand and dirt around that first, metal culvert would be a mistake, since the metal bottom of the old culvert is wearing through. every time water's flowing through the metal culvert, water is washing out existing soil and gravel, meaning that in a few years, that culvert will be subject to washing out and sink-holing. I'd consider pouring concrete or cement into the existing voids beneath the metal culvert to drastically reduce flowage beneath the culvert pipe.
Otherwise, perhaps you should consider building concrete box culverts, with concrete structures poured to the banks to drastically reduce water wearing at the ends of the culverts. It would be serious amounts of work, but should then be reliable for decades.

Al, if the 2nd hole is 30' wide, 20' across and 5' deep, it's 111.11 cu yards to fill it in level with the road. Since the culvert will take up part of that space, you should have plenty to pack and some left over.

Just a thought! How about if you do a two tier culvert. Line each side of the bank with your large rocks to start. Put one culvert in down low. Fill in with another level of rocks, to include what you say head stones. Then add another culvert on top. Or add two culverts next to each other on second tier. That way the lower level of culvert will always flow the water and the two or one upper culvert will address higher water levels. Just a thought!

When you get a big excavator, why not bring down some of those large stones you don't need near the garden and use them as fill on top of the covert then add the smaller loose stuff like dirt and gravel. This might save a few loads you have to pay for! Might be well worth it don't you think? I'm sure you'll wind up with it filled in very nicely, but it will take some time. I'm sure. Your place is so pretty. ❤ thanks for sharing!

Suggest larger #3 rock after 8" cover with small fill. Fill with alternating layers of big and small. Maybe layer of rip wrap at 3' and1'.
Small is fill to block water flow, #3 is heavy rock to not wash out. Same for big Rip wrap. Just like calling headstones.

You're doing great Al, just need to get in the habit of not digging over your drive wheels. I remember back in the country, the old folks used wooden cribbing for their culvert system. Stuff lasted a long time, probably longer had they shou sugi ban processed them. With that big wash-out, I'd recommend 48" concrete pipe. Will allow a lot more flow when needed and less likely to wash out again.

Good Morning! I'm petty sure all those missing teeth are because their bolts came undone. Notice the bolts are missing. Maybe you need Grade 8 bolts and nuts, if the bolts are actually breaking. But you really need to try some Loctite on the nuts. It's a lot cheaper than new teeth, nuts, and bolts.
74 yards by your numbers. What about getting some mixed-size roadbed rock for filling those washouts? I think your gravel could wash out again pretty easily.

You need a flail attachment for your excavator, to reach over the sides of the road. We have one that hooks to our tractor and we can control it from inside the cab. I usually set it to a certain height and angle and just drive in low gear and just raise and lower the head over rocks or stumps. Ours is called a brush Wacker and we've had it for close to 30 years . The pto off the tractor powers a hydraulic pump that runs the boom and powers the head.

Also, taper into the brook both ways. 😅 The flail mower isn't liking the stobs very well. You should hire in a forestry mulcher to clear the roadway sides. Love ya'll ❤️

Good morning Lumnah family from a humid and sunny Minnesota. It's morning and it's hot and a dewpoint of 72F degrees which feels tropical. It's supposed to get to 88F degrees for a high. Good morning viewers. Thanks Rich for helping Al get the new culvert! Wow, so foggy in the morning! The blade of the excavator behind you as you scoop the dirt. I like that. It looks stable! Looking good there at the first wash-out. That's great that the one dump truck full took care of that. Did you get the headstones back up? The culvert looks clear! Thanks for showing us that. Wow, you got that done before the morning chores. So you got 3 loads of gravel for that next culvert? That must be some wash-out! Thanks for the drone shot of you cleaning up the sides of the road above the first wash-out. I like the music! Good idea to be careful of not puncturing your tires on the small tree cut stems. It was funny when the drone crashed. I hope it's okay. Good, it still works! Wow, missing 7 knives! No wonder it's vibrating too much! That is a weird place to have a giant rock. Maybe they couldn't move it before? That is a big wash-out! I'm glad you can get a big excavator to help fix that wash-out. Wow, 8 to 10 dump truck loads full of fill! Thanks for this video Lumnah family! I'll guess 11 dump trucks full of fill.I'll be happy for you if I'm wrong!

Al you may want to consider putting 2 culvert pipes in that washout. Maybe even a load of concrete over the culverts to lock them into the ground. Then add your fill dirt. The material used looks like CR6 which has fines in it. Purhaps a larger stone intially then the CR6 for top 2 ft. Just a suggestion good luck.
