    I've had my 2017 Z1000SX (tourer version) for a few weeks now, and have put almost 1000 miles on it. I went from a GSX-R 1300 Hayabusa. Obviously, this thing doesn't go anywhere as fast, or pull as hard, but it has very good torque for a 1050cc bike, and it pulls decently as early as 2000 rpm. And past 7000 rpm or so, it gives a nice boost, so you really have a little bit of everything with this engine.
    It does "only" have 142 bhp though - I wish it was closer to 160. That said, it'll smoke the majority of cars and a lot of bikes as well. What I find the most fun on it, is launching from first gear. With the traction / wheelie control, you can gun it 100% from the start, which is a blast.
    I've also gotten loads of comments on how beautiful the bike is, especially the color (green). People who normally don't give two shits about motorcycles have come up to me and complimented the bike. Never got any such comments when I rode the Busa. Just things like "that thing is a death trap, how can you ride something like that?" etc.
    I would really prefer something like the Kawasaki ZZR1400 (ZX-14), but the seating position is way too aggressive for my messed up wrists. I can safely recommend the Z1000SX if you're after something you can take on longer trips, and don't necessarily need the bike with the baddest engine on the block. If you have a bony ass though, you may have to switch out the stock seat. Even on the 2017 model, I find it a bit too hard when riding for about an hour or more. I've ordered the Kawasaki gel seat for mine; hopefully that fixes it.

      I fully agree with you. This is an good bike. If kawasaki get it 160hp to wheel (at lease 150), cruise control and smoother ride, maybe from a better chassis, then this would be the perfect bike.

      and 142hp are to crank. It only makes around 120 to rear wheel.

    • @PragmaticTornado
      @PragmaticTornado 7 лет назад

      There are a few things that I wish it had, cruise control being one of them for sure, even though I probably wouldn't use it too much. Another thing would be electronic suspension, but obviously that would increase the price by a lot.
      Yeah that's why I said bhp. I'd say that if they got even 140 hp to the rear wheel, that would be a good improvement.
      I like the bike, but it's far from perfect. 10x more comfortable to ride than my Hayabusa though, and that was the main thing I was after.

      This is what's making me hesitate in getting one, i have 2 bikes today and i'm considering trading them in .
      Having 2 bikes in the city with 2x parking/insurance costs does get a bit expensive, i have a 2013 daytona 675 and a 02 CBR1100XX. The cbr has a full yoshimura system and pc/airfilter and has 8 more hp at the wheel than this does at the crank (150rwhp/168 @ crank) so this bike might feel a tad tame.
      Akrapovic claims gains of very close to 140 rwhp with their full system , adding power commander, sport/race filter and a custom map it should be doable but thats atleast 2k euro +.
      Would have liked to find a modern version of the blackbird but there just isn't something similar. Love the bike but it's getting kinda old sadly.

      So is it better than a Busa for some sport touring?

    Very AWESOME bike. I own one and feel it is the perfect sports bike for me because of the upright seating position. It has all the power you could possibly need for the streets.

    Do you think this bike would be too sensible coming from an MT09? Love the MT09 for fun factor but does have some issues, mainly the bouncy suspension and lack wind protection, plus the jerky throttle when riding 2 up

    Great job as always my friend, and I just subbed! I got a chance to test ride that bike, and for me, the vibes were intolerable, and I was very disappointed with that. My other two complaints are the weight of it. I just can''t get on with a bike that heavy, although once moving it does a fair job of masking it, but still felt to lumbering and sluggish for my taste. The final nail in it's coffin for me was the fuel millage. Just too low of me. I'd love to see Kawasaki come out with something almost exactly like the new 2017 Ninja 650, but give it an 800cc, with great power, and great fuel millage. I'm not fond of the new Z900 btw. Stay safe!

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 лет назад

      Thank you :D Vibes weren't to bad for me, few mods can sort that out. I prefer a slightly heavier bike as it feels more planted. I currently get about 120 miles from my MT07, so based on the mpg from this i should get around 150 miles which i don't mind but that thought may change when i start doing longer trips. Seems like most of the bigger cc engines that Kawasaki produce seem to give the same sort of mpg (32-45). I quite like the z900, if i was going to go for another naked i would have picked it over the z1000!

    • @PragmaticTornado
      @PragmaticTornado 7 лет назад +2

      Strange, I haven't really noticed any vibes on mine. In what rpm range? And I can't see how you can find a liter bike that uses less fuel than this one (a sporty liter bike that is). Mine did use quite a lot of fuel before the first service, but after that it seems to have settled at around 5,9 liters pr 100 km when riding normally, which is basically what Kawasaki have listed on the specifications. I think it used closer to 7 liters pr 100 km before the first service.
      My car will easily chug down 10 liters pr 100 km, so anything below that is a bonus for me :P

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 лет назад +1

      Only through the bars i felt a bit but at the end of the day, i did ride a demo bike so god knows how other people have treated it, the rest was no issue. That's great with the fuel, i don't really mind how much petrol it uses, it pretty cheap to fill up and i have a load of fun in between :D

    • @PragmaticTornado
      @PragmaticTornado 7 лет назад

      Hmm, the grips on mine are not stock though (I had Oxford heated grips installed before I picked it up) - maybe that's why? Yeah I am very happy with the fuel consumption - the range meter will, somewhat optimistically, tell me I have around 330 kms to go right after a refueling. I haven't actually measured how far it can go on one tank, but I ride pretty aggressively, so I might get anywhere from 200-250 kms, which I think is acceptable on a sports tourer.

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 лет назад +1

      Pragmatic Tornado According to the forums, a good pair of grips solves the problem. I found the stock grips tiny and uncomfortable. Yeah thats great for a sports tourer 👌

    I'm serious looking at this bike here in the states and very interested in the vibration your talking about at 5 or 6,000 rpm. Non of the of dealers within 200 miles has one in stock to test ride.

      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 лет назад +1

      I didn't find any vibration in the bike even doing 30mph in 6th! Some people on forums were saying about vibrations at certain rpm's through the frame and tank but i felt nothing

    my mate has 2015 z1000sx, does a lot of motorway riding,and loves it so could be my next bike..my ninja 650 does around 70 mpg,so dropping to 45mpg?? also concerned about the wt,i think the susiki gsx is a little lighter and a bit cheaper...enjoyed your spin in sw....

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  7 лет назад

      70mpg? wow that's pretty good! It is a big drop down to 45 but i did a lot of up and down speeds in the 3 hours i had it but if you were doing a lot of motorway that can go up. I had no issue with the weight, i actually prefer it as you feel more planted to the ground. Thank you
