Hi there I have the 2016 model and I do a 400 mile round trip I leave mine on low power traction control 2 and I only fill up twice I saved roughly 30 miles to each tank having the setting like that overhaul a fantastic bikes these are cannot fault them.
Like this Vlog....I'm taking delivery of a new one of these next week...2019 Stormcloud blue model with a free tourer pack thrown in (colour coded panniers, pannier inners, tank pad and satnav mount)....all for £9500.....that's great pricing!! As you say....brilliant all rounder and perfect for Touring
I am trading my 2016 Z1000SX in for a new Z. I love the 2016 but the headlights are a bit rubbish, hence the change. I must recommend a 16t front sprocket, it turns it into a superb motorway bike and with the excess of power you lose very little in the way of acceleration. It also makes the speedo more accurate and massively improves the mpg. I also fitted a set of Oxford Products heated grips which are brilliant for winter but also night time motorway runs. I also put a switched in USB charger under the rear seat. With the 2019 I'll be making those exact changes once it's run in. Great video and a great bike.
Great tips thanks... I have just fitted Oxford grips and when it's time for new sprockets I will go for the 16.... It's revvy on motorway trips for sure! Ride safe 👍
Fantastic review David. Myself I’m off to try the Kawasaki versys 1000 se. Yes it’s down on power compared to the 1000sx but I’m after a sports tourer that ticks all my boxes. Comfort is my number point then the spec of the bike follows. The versys for the gt version is £15800 so a lot dearer but has all the items I require for a tourer. Yes I’ve tried the sx I found the seat to be firm but apart from the toys it’s a planted enjoyable ride.
Yes still got mine and love it more every time I get out on it... Some bikes just feel right in every way and for me that's the SX.. Good luck with your bike shopping 👍
Thanks Dave, good informative review, this model is on my short list. I am also riding a Suzuki GSX1250 (fa model) which I have had for nearly two years now but it feels a bit heavy on the front end and slightly twitchy on bends - not really been excited by it either. So, do you still enjoy the Z1000?
Hi Jim, yes still riding the SX and purchased the bike outright this year, I wouldn't dream of selling the bike it's just so good at everything. I looked at the new model which is a fine bike but I'm sticking with my 18 plate now it's paid off. I've got a Triumph 765r now as well so feel lucky to have a pick of bikes depending on weather and mood. I plan to get more miles done in 2021 as the SX has only done 5k due to work and lockdowns etc... Fingers crossed for next year. I found the SX was a far superior machine to the FA ... Get yourself a test ride see what you think... Good luck mate.
Could you make an updated review? I’m looking at buying one 2nd hand as they are returned to the dealer at the 3rd year point and would like a longer term review.
Hi there .... Yes sure I am off work at the end of May so will post a 1 year ownership review then. I am very pleased with the bike so far 👍 If you need to know any information sooner than that just ask and I will do my best to answer.
Peter Van-Huysse hi there I’ve had my bike now for 16 months... and have 13500 miles on it .. I commute all week and go out for rides on weekends... I can answer some of your questions if you like ..:-)))
dmandhelen - I test rode one myself yesterday, but I probably should’ve rode it how I would of normally be riding it rather than seeing what it can do? How do you find it for just general riding?
Peter Van-Huysse to be fully honest.. I can’t fault the bike .. I love everything about it ... I rode my friends new Street Triple R a bit ago and it felt awful..!!!! Very small and buzzy and quite awkward..:-((( and I’ve had one of those and loved it at the time 🤔🤔🤔🤔... but now I’ve ridden this bike it has no comparison... the only way I can describe it is.... it feels like the difference between a big GT car and say a Hot hatch ... and I love the big GT car best ... it covers all bases for me ... I don’t think ( for me)there is a better bike ...:-))
@@petervan-huysse5803 I find my bike great for day to day riding, it is comfortable and has a good riding position slightly tilted forward and good wind protection. It's fast but happy to plot around within speed limits and the fueling and throttle response is 100% accurate. I love the bike and think it makes a great all rounder.
Great video and great bike. How does it filter through traffic? I have a kawa Er6F which love because it´s so slender, but fearful the SX might be too fat for riding at rush hour? Thanks
Thanks, I find filtering quite easy as the bike is very compact, it's like a 600cc bike with a 1000cc engine. Great all rounder with the emphasis on sports.
Good review, great bikes and I couldn't agree more....apart from my preference for the 2018 Emerald Blazed Green :-). Coincidentally my last bike was a 1250 Bandit and the first thing I noticed with the SX was how high the revs are by comparison - 4000 @ 60mph. This isn't as noticeable now I've got used to it. You should be getting more than 41mpg, mine's only done 1000 miles and given 46.7 mpg from new. Yours will be low if you're riding around town a lot, my riding's mostly rural.
Hi there, thanks for your comment, my MPG is slowly creeping up. I got 43.8 on a run at the weekend so it's getting there, still a bit more thirsty thank yours and I'm not a throttle merchant. Only time will tell I suppose 😬
I've got a 2018 MT09, which is a hoon, however longer rides are becoming a bit frustrating with the small tank. Very tempted by this, but worried I'll find it a little boring. Is this bike still fun, or is it too competent?
If you take one for a test ride you will be pleasantly surprised in my opinion. It is definately not boring and unless you want to lose your license it needs to be on the track to really stretch it's legs. Let me know what you think if you take one out pls 👍
@@djbgatekeeper I want to test ride one, but my local dealer says I have to be 25, being 24 with 6 years riding experience isn't enough apparently haha

Wow . That's amazing. I've had my ninja 1000 for 2 yrs and didn't know about the range option . I always use to refuel when I've done somewhere between 200 - 250 kms . I checked the range today and it worked . On a full tank it shows the range is about 320 kms . So I'll have an extra 50 kms before refueling from now. Every day u learn something new . Thanks man .

PCP is personal contract plan, it's how I chose to fund the bike. You put a small deposit down, then low monthly payments and at the end of the term you get 3 choices: give the bike back to the dealer, part exchange for another bike or pay what's called a ballon payment and keep the bike. Using PCP is really like renting the bike, it's cheaper than buying outright unless you wanted to keep the bike for good. It's a very popular way of having a nice bike in the UK that normally you wouldn't be able to afford.
I always leave my TC on level 2, I've tried 1 and 3 and not noticed much difference but I am a fair weather rider and unless you are doing track days I don't think TC will kick in that much unless the roads are wet. It maybe I don't thrash my bike enough 😏 I see the TC as a safety net so level 2 and power setting on full is how I always ride.
