well, contrarily to someone´s previous comentary, i love the exhausts... this is the most beautifull sport tourer ever made... just bought mine, lime green, amazing design, looks like an angel armed to war... its gonna take years for others to match this peace of art. everything of her its beautifull. and the sound of it, you must be there to understand what i mean... my other bike is a Z900 RS 2018, absolutely unique, an impressive match of history and exclusivity, and again it sounds like an F 16 at Mach 2 speed boost tempo. my problem every morning is to decide wich one shall i take for a ride. i need a clone just love KAWASAKI, best bikes in the all world.
it's kinda of on it's own genre, The GSX F is good but is severely lacking in the touring department. the closest to SX is the truimph ST, albeit less sporty.
Missed a belt loop! Love the updated looks. Needs cruise control, but otherwise it's a budget Super Duke GT, a good thing. Oh and the S21 tire is superior to the tired (get it?) S20 they equipped, but I'd still put on Angel GT bc it's a sport tourer. Want to ride!
Bought mine last June and I love it. More than enough tour and sport for me. Would agree about the tyres, especially in the wet. Screen still a little bit of an issue for me even now I've fitted a powerbronze one, but I'm an old fart!
Looks good to me, for the price. Only thing to concern me is quite a few reports are saying the Bridgestones are not up to much and make the front end feel odd, and slip. That doesn't inspire much confidence, so I'm wondering how much cost and what replacement tyres would fix this issue.
Very nice review, except I disagree with your point that the Suzuki S1000F is competing with this as a sport-tourer. The Suzuki can't take luggage or pillion very well so it is false marketing to class it as a tourer.
Javier, the trousers are from here, www.therokkerstore.com/en-gb/style/1041_chino-sand.html. The jacket and the waterproof shell over it are both from www.alpinsetars.com and the footwear is waterproof riding boots from www.tcxboots.com It is the proper riding gear.
Most of the new assist clutch setups I've been squeezing this year feel significantly lighter pull than the conventional clutches. This one has a slipper/assist clutch so it's going to be easier to pull.
I don't think the rear seat could be used for anything over 60kms, So it lacks in the touring department also a centerstand and GPS would help alot and fuel reserve and adequateunder seat storage.
I love this bike it's very unique. But it's a single persons bike I recon, if you want to throw the misses and a top box on the back your screwed. Good review though. 🖒🖒
Jesus Christ saves from sin. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Romans 10:9-10. Do you ever show up properly prepared for 'climactic eventualities'? You can find out about these places before you get there, you know. They're called 'forecasts' and while they're not always 100% right, they're right enough to make bringing full wets and warm extras along worthwhile if any precip is at all mentioned. Or you could keep riding around with men's boxer shorts around your head and wearing soaking wet chinos. It's a real 'pro' look ;>}
Excellent cinematography. Well done. Now lets get right to the point. The bike is overweight and underpowered. 140 hp is OK but is the lowest of all the liter bikes both for supersport and nakeds. I see that Kawasaki doubled down on the touring portion and NOT the sporting portion. And need I even mention those hideous exhausts? Truly sad because I love this motorcycle but will not be buying another one. When will SOMEBODY give us an upright sportbike with the power of a superbike?! I am tired of all these bullshit compromises they force us into. Guess I should have bought the ZX 14 and called it a day.
I'm on the same page as you. I want to like this bike so much but it just keeps falling short. I'm seriously just considering a concourse 14 and taking off the bags(they kinda look funny without them). I've seen them beat up on 600 supersports and hold their own against 1000's...could have been the riders. I was more than impressed with it's performance though and my back would greatly appreciate sitting upright.
Going with the Concours 14 you're adding another 174 pounds of mass, which with all the extra motor, isn't equating to a significant bump in outright acceleration. Sounds like what you'd like is a superbike that's just had some bars, pegs, and seat adjustment for touring. The Z1000SX/Ninja1000 has some power deficit, but to be honest when you drop 21 pounds of exhaust off, flash the ECU, drop in a filter, it picks up a significant amount of power. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/2014%20Z1000%20All%20Stock%20vs%20full%20Akra%20abmod%20pkg.GIF
I can keep up with litre sports bikes...... unless your on a track sports bike power on the road is unusable really. My R1 is for the track the z1000sx is plenty for the road and its comfy!
If you say it's underpowered, I guess you are riding mostly on tracks or long straights. A 200bhp superbike has not more power in any relevant country road rpm range and that 20kg more won't do any harm if you can actually ride. I participate in riding courses regularly and last time the instructor had a 50bhp old sports bike and outran any participant on the track. Skill matters more than horsepower. Most mountain riders I know would say noone will ever need that much max horse power but more torque in the low and mid range which is exactly what you get with a bike like that. If you check out the versys 1000 from Kawasaki it has even less max horse power but more torque on the low end.
If it had 180hp, a non-TC version, Cruise control and less weight, I'd buy it tomorrow for $5000 more than they are asking. Sexy af, but technically pretty shithouse.
Heh, it's a bit like that isn't it. I settled for a 1290 sdr with a retro-fitted top box, side panniers and bar-risers. Too bad it doesn't look as good as this thing though.
Yeah it's not cheap, but it depends on which country you are buying from. The price in the US is roughly $2000 cheaper than here in OZ. Maintenance isn't any more expensive than your standard road bike, it could actually work out cheaper because twins are easy to work on. I'm just bummed on the color, Orange just isn't my thing, even though I got the black version. Debating whether it's worth the trouble to frame it.
It's a value proposition to me. I can't ride motorcycles more than about 7-8 months out of the year, if I have very warm gear (cost). I recently bought a 1-year-old Ford Focus Sedan in manual shift for just under 13 thousand. I plan to run this car over 10 years at least as my primary vehicle. I can't imagine spending that much, or 4 thousand more for a machine that is primarily recreational. And I'm a single mature man, no debt, with a decent job.
Nice riding, great bike-=but I'll just be keeping my 19 year old Super Black bird, it's faster, only 15K miles and I'm my own traction control, wheelie control, wet riding mode, cornering management, etc, etc. Oh yeah I paid $3,700.00 4 years ago!E

just love KAWASAKI, best bikes in the all world.
I have a Z750 and I love it. One day, I'll get an SX. The Z900RS Cafe is an amazing looking bike, just gorgeous. Great choice of bikes mate!
The green colour scheme is a LOT nicer than the '16 version which I thought was a bit busy looking. The orange is gorgeous too.
I got the 2018 black with red striped wheels. Think it looks awesome :)
it's kinda of on it's own genre, The GSX F is good but is severely lacking in the touring department.
the closest to SX is the truimph ST, albeit less sporty.
Lose the music I want to hear the bike!

Depending on where you live but i would say about 500 dollars in the U.S
Do you guys wait for the weather to get crappy before you ride?
that location is terrific! :O
Very nice review, except I disagree with your point that the Suzuki S1000F is competing with this as a sport-tourer. The Suzuki can't take luggage or pillion very well so it is false marketing to class it as a tourer.
Hi. What Is suitable top box for this bike? Shad or Givi? Will the bike wobble in high speed maybe around 160km/h if I use the top box?
Is z1000sx and ninja 1000 the same bike?
Yes the same bike.
this bike does not compete with BMW S1000XR, this bike competes with R1200RS my friend. S1000XR goes vs. Versys 1000
There is no competition between the BMW and Kawasaki.
Nice bike. It should be ridden with proper riding gear, though...
That is proper riding gear Javier, armoured jeans and riding boots...
SuperBike It didn't look like it to me. My apologies.
No worries at all, Javier.
How's the clutch on the 2017.
Still gonna feel the muscles in your left arm after a day's drive?
And what do you think of the Versys.
Most of the new assist clutch setups I've been squeezing this year feel significantly lighter pull than the conventional clutches. This one has a slipper/assist clutch so it's going to be easier to pull.
How do you compare it to a super naked? Let's say that i want to do some canyon trips from 2/3 days to 10 days?
What about the saddle bags? and by the way you where all over the road really dangerous not like a regular rider would ride so...
I don't think the rear seat could be used for anything over 60kms, So it lacks in the touring department also a centerstand and GPS would help alot and fuel reserve and adequateunder seat storage.
can the tech stuff be turned off?
I love this bike it's very unique. But it's a single persons bike I recon, if you want to throw the misses and a top box on the back your screwed.
Good review though. 🖒🖒
My wife rode my 14 once. It's too much like a supersport for the pillion. This is a great solo sport tourer.
When are reviewers going to listen?... Bike sounds are enough. Dump the crap music

I'm guessing it still has 4000 mile service intervals? :/ Does anyone know when the pricing for this will come out?
same here , why no cruise control Kawasaki
why do u need it on such a bike? I just wonderin
it's a touring bike.....
Onoff314 sport tourin bike, SPORT
+planetnails100180 even a S1000RR has cruise control
Mehul Kumar so thats why its often broken, damn, thx God I have Kawasaki
Screens always been adjustable. Do your homework.
but it's taller now
I do not want cruise control on a bike. Thanks Kawasaki.
That's why its called touring bike
Daniel Cobb Well, the 2020 Ninja 1000 will have it, and if you don’t want a quickshifter either, it will have that too.
Saddle bags are the fannypacks of motorcycles.
they look sexy af imo
Saddle bags are the roof racks of motorcycles. Fixed it for ya.
no....bad analogy. Top boxes are the roof racks of motorcycles. Ya big dumb goose.
I mean given the saddle bags are on the back of the bike... They are indeed fanny packs.
Top boxes are like a semi trailer catching a low bridge. The wind pushes the front of the bike off the ground.
here we call it the ninja1000
EU4 is a pain, but I imagine it's a good idea if we want our children to have a planet left to live on...

Quite funny. It's had them as an option since 2011.
The amount of bribery from kawasaki here is ridiculous. Free holiday to a 5 star hotel on the coast in return for a good review.
