Thanks so much and thanks so much for choosing the Performance Series! We very much appreciate your being a part of the DW family and your feedback. :)
@LoZfan95 well, you have to think about what re-hoops do to the vibration of a shell. 1st, they add more tension to the shell, so the fundamental pitch will be slightly higher than a shell w/o re-hoops. 2nd, they focus the vibration of the shell more towards the center, encouraging the heart of the shell to vibrate more than the edges. This effects the tone/timbre giving it a more focused and warm sound (less overtones, more fundamental).
@Olliemets Great post! We are very happy to hear you have a good experience with DW. The one up 2 down is one of our favorites for sure. Sounds like the Classics have gone well for you and we love hearing that. :)
It's incredible capacity of a kit vintage sound different from what we are accustomed. Is unique and sounds incredible. Thanks Dw done live those moments of nostalgia in a Classic Series kit.
I acquired a Classics kit in January and gigged with it the first time this past Saturday night. Wanted something different (I also have a collectors kit). All I can say is...it's a stunning kit. For My own ear I changed some heads and went with an hourglass pillow in the Bass Drum (removed the felts- which come with it installed)...but the sound is very warm, full and "tubby". I'm extremely pleased. There are not many of these kits around. The market is flooded with DW Collectors kits.
Think we spoke to you on a Maple/Mahogany video! Surely! The Classic series has a more old school be-bop sound but has been used for everything from jazz to rock!
Oh wow! These drums have a killer vintage sound! It's really the best of both worlds: Today's improved manufacturing techniques plus the old-school sound of yesterdays kits.Very nice. I have not heard a newer kit able to accurately and precisely produce this kind of tone (except for DW Classics, of course).
Thanks so much for watching and liking the Classic's Series. We did do a limited run of kits like this(same shell) for our independent dealers in the US. Feel free to check your local authorized DW/PDP independent dealer for pricing info. Thanks again! ://dwdr(dot)ms/v7qPFu
Thanks for asking! We do not currently offer a internal dampening system. We do apply a felt strip on the resonant and batter heads that would be in the same theme though. We hope this would help with your request. :)
All Classic's Series toms and bass drums are a 6 ply reinforcement hoops. And just to elaborate on the back story with Daniel, there was a time when the Classics Series was a 10 ply maple hoop. Thanks for asking!
Good question! This was an option for quite sometime but we unfortunately had to discontinue the 6100 Trap Case throne sometime ago. Sorry about that. :(
Thanks for your feedback and watching the video! Brendan Buckley used for Damien Rice can rocking, Blair Sinta has done some session work also. Abe Laborial with Paul MaCartney Darue Jones with Jack White. Curt Bisquera. Zach Lind with Jimmy Eat World. Dominic Howard with the Muse!
@dww0902 Ok we got you. The rings for the Classic's snare are 1 5/8's inches. Not too worry though we find this works best with the Mahagony/Poplar shells to insure the best sound.
Hey Wayne, Thanks for the comment. I feel your pain. A new set of Classics aren't going to be as cheap as a lower priced line that is mass produced in China. But I always ask, if you're serious about your drumming, why rob yourself of a first class experience so you can save a few hundred (or even a thousand) dollars? A drum set is a treasured item that you'll probably use for the next 20 years. It's worth it to be thrilled every time you sit down behind the kit. Just my 2 cents. Have fun!
@DrumWorkshopInc I went with the Vintage WMP. At first I feared they might be too "yellow" but it's sort of a creamy color. Very rich and elegant in appearance. I have a DW collectors kit as well, but frankly it may be awhile before I go back :-) . I so love the feel and sound of the classics. Got a TON of compliments Saturday on the kit. You are correct. I feel inspired when I sit behind them. I've seen 3 of these kits on ebay past 6 months, so they do come around.
We appreciate you inquiry! We do not do pricing direct from our factory being as though we are manufacturers. Please feel free to contact your local authorized DW drums dealer with the sizes and finish type you like and they can assist you with pricing and ordering info. Thanks! ocator(dot)dwdrums(dot)com/drum/
@LoZfan95 yes, it is possible. Just make sure the dealer you order from includes that in the notes. You'll probably want to specify Collector's or Classics' style re-hoops. You can even specify how many plies you want the hoops to be. Standard Collector's hoops are 6-ply maple.
I need to see Stix Zadinia to be featured on this DW! Iv been longing to see him play without the band and Iv always been curious in his kit and setup. Thanks
@Olliemets this is great to here. I too personally chose Classics to get a more unique and "tubby" vintage sound. I couldn't be happier. Very inspiring to play. Interesting to hear about the pillow. I will soon experiment with some different heads from stock as well. Long live the Classics! What finish did you get?
@killjoyshidae1208 Thanks for the suggestion! We do not currently offer the vintage style T-Rod in steel. We offer them in line in chrome. You can find them at dwdrums(dot)com. Click the "Shop" button in the right bottom corner. Then punch DRSP10141C into the search engine in the top left corner of the Shopatron website. From there you can order. :)
@LoZfan95 Jazz comes standard w/o hoops to achieve that vintage, wide-open sound. But that's not to say they wouldn't sound great with a little more focus. Classics hoops are 10-ply maple (very thick) and 2-inches deep (twice the depth of normal re-hoops). So they are going to provide extreme focus, and thus are a perfect match to control Classics' huge dry sound and give them tons of punch.
@Flooginator haha. good eye. nothing up our sleeves...well...not that anyways ;) Those are the "beaver tail" lugs we offered on the Buddy Rich limited edition Classics kits made in 2006 (when we launched the Classics Series). They've since been discontinued :-/
I need this kit ! I bought a Tama Silverstar last fall when they came out because i thought it looked Vintage and that i would be able to get that sound out of it but i cant so i found this kit and it sounds just like a Vintage Slingerland kit ! I would trade my Tama for this any day !
@beastlyninja1 indeed it is a Collector's Series Vintage Steel snare. But trust me, the Classics Series Snares sound amazing too, although a very popular snare to compliment the Classics Series is the Super Solid.
Have to add my .02. I've owned 11 kits in my Life (I'm 50). Took the plunge on these about a year ago. They are STUNNING. I also own a big 7 piece DW collectors kit which is sweet...but I'm never selling these Classics. I'd describe the sound as "tubby". Have my classics in the the 1 Up 2 Down config shown here here, also in Vintage Marine. I've played out with these 8 times in past year, and they never fail to turn heads and I get a lot of questions on them. Check em out..
Connor, just to follow up on the DW comment below. I use the Classics series in many blues bands, and it sounds AMAZING, especially if you go with a 22, 13, 16 kind of a set up. If muffled right, the Classics really captures the old school sound used on Chess recordings and lots of other R&B stuff as well. You will DIG these drums.
@wildrodeo72 Wow that's an amazing gig mate!! What part of Oz are you from? Thanks so much for rocking the Buddy Rich kit in front of so many fans and being a part of the DW family. There aren't many of those Buddy Rich kits out there. You have played some different types of styles. You got some skills!! Glad to hear you are holding on to it!
Thank god for this. A vintage Slingerland runs up to like 5,000 and those are ok. These give the vintage sound at a much better price and they're DW! Too bad i can only afford a PDP.. One day ill own one of these..
I've often fantasised about a 9x13, 16x16, 14x24 kit with single lugs in the middle of the tom and bass drum (Club Date/Tower style) in a natural satin finish. Would that be possible? Maybe I don't want to know...
@bigbossmatt when we first started offering Classics Series the shells were made by Keller, but we've been making them ourselves for quite some time now.
My question about these drums, and it may be quite a stretch, but is it possible to install internal dampeners inside the shells? I have a set of Slingerland Radio Kings that have them, and I think I've seen a set of Ludwigs with them as well. They are really old and I realize that there might be some patent concerns, but I'd really like to get a set of these, and that is a feature I would love to have!
@dww0902 you mean like how a snare drum only has one set of lugs with tension rods coming out both sides? Hmm, I suppose we might be able to do it except for you'd have to have some crazy long tension rods (8 inches for the floor tom!). If you're serious about it, we'll look into it. Afterall, we are a custom drum company ;)
Hey DW! I've seen several different specifications for the ply thicknesses and # of plies for the reinforcing rings. Between all the different RUclips videos (Daniel Glass, John Good, and the video out on the Classics webpage on the DW site), it seems like the shell is either 6 ply or 10 ply for the maple re-rings, and the middle poplar ply is either 1/20" (!!??) or 1/8" or 3/16". And how thick are the mahogany plies, currently? Can you say for sure what the current (2020) spec is for the shell construction, and whether it varies by tom tom size versus bass drum, etc? Thanks!
Hey there, Thanks for the inquiry. It seems like you have done a ton of research! It's always a pleasure talking shop with a pro. Yes, our plies do vary in thicknesses depending on the tinsel strength or resonance of that particular wood. Our current maple is 1/36" per ply. We will use different thicknesses depending if it is a hybrid shell. For instance our brand new Santa Monica line uses 1/32" plies on the maple. The current Mahogany ply thickness is also 1/36". I think I may have something right up your alley. This is called the "Book Of Plies" --> www.dwdrums.com/digitalliterature/bookofplies This is a book that my boss John Good did explaining off of the wood types, thicknesses, and finishes. It's really informative. Check it out. I think you will truly get a lot out if it. i hope this helpa. Brent W.
@@dwdrums Thanks! The only mystery left is the poplar ply. I assume it's 3/16" (as indicated in this video), because if it's 1/20" (as indicated in other videos) then the total shell thickness would come in at around 1/9" which seems way too thin. If it's 3/16", then the total shell thickness comes in at almost 1/4", which seems more historically consistent (cf: old Slingerland and Ludwig 3 ply drums) and also consistent with the thickness of the Contemporary Classics shell. Thanks for the book of plies!
@JakeBarnes777 you can design a custom DW kit on dwdrums(dot)com/kitbuilder, and it will even give you a quote from a dealer. We do not sell DW Drums directly, so you'll have to get in touch with a dealer to order your custom kit. You can find the dealer nearest you by going to DWDrums(dot)com and clicking on the "Dealer Locator" on the navigation bar.
Where can I order a kit? I've been using the PDP line for awhile from you guys and am looking to upgrade. I want to get something that will last and sound great like your Collectors Series drums. Wondering if i can get estimate on a 5 or 6 piece Collector Series kit. And I don't expect a cheap price...
Hey guys. Im looking at your website and it claims a "6 ply maple reinforcement ring" Did the ring get thinner or did the plies get thicker, or was Mr. Glass in error claiming a "10 ply reinforcement ring"? Sorry to be a details snob but I'm looking at one of these for myself.
@xShortyZz a great place to star is with our Kitbuilder dwdrums(dot)com/kitbuilder. The price is very dependent on the options you choose (finish, hardware, sizes, etc). Because we do not sell DW Drums directly, you will need to contact an authorized DW Dealer (dealer locator on our website) to get official pricing. If you're on a budget, you might consider out new more-afforable DW Performance Series. Happy Shopping :)
@DrumWorkshopInc Yes, like on a snare drum, but just on the rack tom and bass drum, not on the floor tom. I'm a vintage Rogers fan, and in the 60's, they had a student kit configuration where only a bass, tom, and snare were offered (all with single lugs). If you wanted a floor tom, you would get the higher end floor tom with double lugs. BTW, I'm not entirely serious about it. It's just something I've been thinking about. It would be cool though. :)
I'm looking for a 4-5 piece kit with a similar look and sound to this but I'm on a very tight budget. What prices would i be looking at for something like that?
Our Classics Series, Jazz Series & Collector's Series are all custom made to order. We do not give pricing from the factory but if you contact one of our dealers they can get that information for you. Here is a link. dwdrums.com/dealers You might want to check out our Design Series Frequent Flyer kit! We offer it in a White Onyx Finish and these little kits are just stellar. www.dwdrums.com/drums/design/finishes.asp
dw drums Just out of curiosity, would you guys be able to wrap these in the satin flame type wrap? I know it doesn't say you offer it on your website. I was just thinking of how cool it would be to have these in Aqua Satin flame like the old Camco's Dennis Wilson had, and then the inlays on the bass drum hoops. Rail mount, cymbal mount, but up a few sizes; 24, 14, 16, 18.
Carlo Von Sexron Get in touch with us and we can give you some options. The sky is the limit. Customer Service Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm PST Phone: 800-45-DRUMS (800-453-7867) www.dwdrums.com/contact/
dw drums Cool, thanks. Not exactly thinking about ordering a kit just this minute, more just spitballing around some ideas. If I remember, back in the 90s Jack Irons had one of your kits in a satin flame job, so I felt like you could still do it, I just didn't know if you guys had to order that from Delmar, and were trying to keep it in house or whatnot. Anyway, whenever Jon Theodore comes around thinking of a new kit, you might want to bring it up to him, I thought he might get a kick out of it.
We do, too! Thanks for liking the sound!
Thanks again for you kind, passionate words!
Thanks so much! Sounds like a cool kit you have on your hands.
what an incredibly talented drummer. I love to watch him. I'm pretty sure he sounds amazing whatever drums be plays.
Lovely warm sound and playing
Nice choice on the sizes! Enjoy and thanks again!
It's incredible capacity of a kit vintage sound different from what we are accustomed. Is unique and sounds incredible. Thanks Dw done live those moments of nostalgia in a Classic Series kit.

Man those look and sound so awesome!
Haha! We like that! Time to bundle up with some Classic Series drums!
Best DWs I’ve heard...love the classic sound....
I wonder if the new DW Slingerlands will sound similar.

@dww0902 All Collector's Series 10+6 snares come with Reinforcement Hoops. A 6.5x14 10+6 will come with re-rings for sure. Hope this helps!
Just purchased some of these babies in the champagne sparkle, cannot wait to gig them :)
@dww0902 Ok we got you. The rings for the Classic's snare are 1 5/8's inches. Not too worry though we find this works best with the Mahagony/Poplar shells to insure the best sound.

@hotlikealienballs Thanks for noticing. :) The Classics Series, 6000 series hardware and Daniel Glass helps to make it happen for sure.
I'm starting a band early this year. If I ever get an endorsement someday, I'd get a set of these in yellow tiger pearl.
@dww0902 Oh my gosh! ;) We here for you when you are ready.

4:50 dude. Awesome! Daniel, great drumming, man! Makes me want to switch to trad and play swing.
It's so trippy to watch Daniel play, he is so fluid and so COMPLETELY left-handed, as opposed to most drummers who are righties... crazy!
I need this kit ! I bought a Tama Silverstar last fall when they came out because i thought it looked Vintage and that i would be able to get that sound out of it but i cant so i found this kit and it sounds just like a Vintage Slingerland kit ! I would trade my Tama for this any day !

@bigbossmatt we make Classics Shells right here at DW Headquarters in Oxnard, CA.

Jeff Wissing for me an inspiration and an influence on how I approach the kit

BTW, I'm not entirely serious about it. It's just something I've been thinking about. It would be cool though. :)
I'm looking for a 4-5 piece kit with a similar look and sound to this but I'm on a very tight budget. What prices would i be looking at for something like that?
Our Classics Series, Jazz Series & Collector's Series are all custom made to order. We do not give pricing from the factory but if you contact one of our dealers they can get that information for you. Here is a link. dwdrums.com/dealers
You might want to check out our Design Series Frequent Flyer kit! We offer it in a White Onyx Finish and these little kits are just stellar. www.dwdrums.com/drums/design/finishes.asp
Thank you!
dw drums Just out of curiosity, would you guys be able to wrap these in the satin flame type wrap? I know it doesn't say you offer it on your website. I was just thinking of how cool it would be to have these in Aqua Satin flame like the old Camco's Dennis Wilson had, and then the inlays on the bass drum hoops. Rail mount, cymbal mount, but up a few sizes; 24, 14, 16, 18.

dw drums Cool, thanks.
Epic introdution .The mask !! Hey pachuco !
Daniel does it right! Oh that was an effect for 3D glasses actually. :) Sorry about your eyes.

@billybobzermatwwe It sounds like you have a Solid shelled snare. That is what series and shell type you snare is. No need to worry! :)
how much does a drumset like this cost?
great drumming!
However I think the vintage flicker on the video was unnecessary - hurts my eyes
