You can get alot of attention just for having an attractive character/glamour as well.
With a MViera Alt who doesnt glam and uses gear as i go along with the expansion and levels dungeons and i cannot count on both hands the amount of times ive been chat up, complimented, hit on, and having cure/kisses tossed my way just for being MViera.
I once got a tell saying "hey we have the same hair colors" We didnt. The core hair color was the same but the highlight color were completely different. So basically an excuse to talk to me i guess 🤷‍♀️
But when i play my MHyur, i have a much harder time making friends and ive literally never been approached/helped/ or talk to lol. Its really sad considering i had made him with the intention of being the poster WoL. Whats wrong with playing the story as the charcter that it should be on to see the story as it should be told.

@Phoenix not to hate but that whole “too boring and basic” argument doesnt even make logical sense when its just true, because they are us as humans, its the definition of “boring and basic” (which no, doesnt equal to “bad” or anything either) when you can quite literally be anything else, same goes for the “escapism” argument that can and should apply to all races, dont know why its just hyurs/humans there unless you mean “being my real human self in a world i prefer” or something, then sure

    • @Volkaru
      @Volkaru Год назад +3

Mostly because 99% of Hroth players are LGBTQ+, so you pretty much automatically have that aspect of sort of knowing what to expect with interacting with them. Even more so because another large majority of them are also gay furries. So there's common ground between most Hroth players, which makes them easier to approach if you share those same traits.

    • @backslash4141
      @backslash4141 Месяц назад +2

@ffadicto Not true. The male viera aren't "subs" at all. In fact, culturally, they are all trained guardians of the forest they're from only returning to their village to mate and then leaving to get milk for like a century.
The only lore you could possibly misinterpret that way is the fact that youth are difficult to tell as male or female. As such, they are raised without a focus on either cultural gender role until they are a bit older.
Not "subs," not "uwu femboys," those are literally headcannons made up by deranged fans with an addiction to gay shipping.

Male Au Ra here, bro i gotta be that 1% i think, my glam for early game was what i called an "off duty knight", basically just used knight boots with a white shirt and my weapon was that slim DRK claymore, when i then got the whole DRK armour i dyed it white. It's only after i started maining NIN in Stormblood that i used red and black, but it's mostly a nod to japan than actual edgyness, bro is more dripped out than geared up let's say. The reason i actually chose Au Ra was because of the idle poses, they're so stylish and are spewing confidence. I even do them irl from time to time, especially that tilted forwand hands on hips posture, does wonders to your back istg. And well, i don't think i'm that much of a reserved dude, maybe at first when i join a new FC or even a new friend group irl cause i like to see how people are without me before making myself known, you know, i wouldn't like to come in with an explosive personality while people there are mostly chill, but aside from that, i'm mostly the memer of the FC (or irl friend group).

I chose a female plainsfolk Lalafell because of funny pocket DPS/Tank, but I ended up as a Healer main instead because of Astrologian.
I made a lore-appropriate name for my Lala and something I didn't really expect how much people love to just emote or talk to you on a whim. Something about the size and design of Lalafell makes them very socially approachable and that's honestly super wholesome.

Highlanders and Midlanders are both Hyur, but they're entirely different from one another with there own set of animations, texture's and voice's they might as well be 2 different races. Wish you would've separated them instead of putting them both under just Hyur.

    • @biffwellington6144
      @biffwellington6144 Год назад +39

I was thinking the same thing. I'd say Highlanders are capable and confident. Males are either gruff no-nonsense types who respect competency, or flashy shit-talkers who don't mind being humbled once in a while, while females are more the friendly and encouraging type. It's a nice "middle ground" race for people who want to come across as both capable and willing to learn.
A lot of people are afraid to seem dumb by asking a "stupid" question about the fight mechanics when your group is struggling on some boss that "everybody knows", but if there's a Highlander in your group, that's the person who'll come right out and say, "Hey, how do you keep from dying when the boss (does thing)?"
I play a female Highlander, myself, and I don't care if someone thinks I'm dumb for asking a question like that; I just want us to win. And the people who are afraid to ask will benefit from me asking, too.

The dying bit is a bit odd though because I've never really seen other Au Ra die first - its usually whoever is new and just unfamiliar with the current fight mechanics...that and as a PLD main, if I die first that either means the healer is dead, or I've made a terrible decision and things are about to get spicy.
Outfit-wise I just use some armors to balance the badass and the beauty...but also I do notice most other female Au Ra players like the more modern looks instead of the fantasy thematics I try to go for with each of my jobs.

Before that I started as a catgirl, but her animations didn’t quite fit me as a person I guess? And then when I picked up the other expansions (that was before free HW) I fantasiaed into female Au Ra, and she was a much better fit for me. I rolled a Xaela before I even knew about their culture but it was absolutely perfect because I’m half buryat (Mongolian small nation), and I felt so immensely connected with Xaela and the Azim Steppe. It reminded me of the tiny village my grandma lived in, flat steppe as far as the eye can see, and far, far in the distance there lie Altai mountains in blue haze. And buuz! Buuz are absolutely delicious by the way, and are a real dish I’ve been eating since childhood.
But anyway. Once Shadowbringers rolled around I swapped to a Veena Viera and never looked back except on Halloween because I need my witch hat. But I always change right after. The animations are spot on for me, not too exaggerated, simple, but fluid, and she is absolutely beautiful.

Roegadame here from the very first day I set foot in the game! I can certify that we both exist and are in love with our characters.
In my experience, we mostly keep to ourselves and enjoy having people literally look up at us, so we tend to seem like rare mythical beings (which I personally like). I can certainly remember most, if not all of the roegadames I've crossed paths with!
For me, female Roegadyn was a no-brainer since I tend to play big buff women whenever I have the chance to do so and I was very pleasantly surprised to see how they're more versatile in terms of appearance than the other games' equivalent. You can pretty much make her rugged or sophisticated, clad her in full plate, dress her in a tuxedo or have her wear robes and leather, and she will look amazingly good in every single outfit. Also, I love femroes' murder stares.
And yes, I am the resident dommy mommy character of my FC and friends list. Life is good in FFXIV. c:

I would say, just from a visual perspective, color choice is a big reason your Hroth looks good. The blacks with the pink make a great contrast, without being glaring in any way, and the green eyes are super striking amidst all that black fur and really stand out.
*sniff* I play a miqo' boy and I'm so super invested in the story. I loved seeing how my curious, wide-eyed island bumpkin grew into a saavy, powerful, sweet but sassy cinna bun.
My boy's hair is actually brown, but it does have a touch of red for variation, just cause i couldn't seem to get any other colors to make good highlights.
He is a bit quiet, I guess, mostly going with how the game paints our WoL as a hero of few words, but out of lore, I chat as him quite a lot and my favorite emotes are the more playful, energetic ones.
I actually don't like the super flashy armor on my miqo, it just never seemed to suit his parsonality and the story that ended up appearing for me. He's actually rather humble despite being THE freaking WoL, and I keep most of his outfits to reflecting that. More of his more elaborate garb, like the Lunar Envoy set, are for special occassion/official capacity type events.
Some how he did not end up being just a 'I wear it cause it looks cool', his personality develpoed way too much in ShB, and now he looks odd in garb that doesn't suit him because I think of how awkward and out of place he would feel being overly gussied up. XD

I definitely, accidentally, played into the stereotype you mentioned. (Thankfully, I'm at least past the "just emote" stage of anxiety battling!)
... And then I switched to Hrothgar a month ago due to enjoying bestial/monstrous races and finally seeing one after a long break from the game... Before I learned how much people interact with them or talk to them, especially other Hrothgar. (I have been /pet or /dote by other Hrothgar in almost every Alliance raid we are placed together in, for example.) So that's been a surprising shift in how I engage with the community at times. I can say that as a masc Elezen, I've received less attention (thankfully). I've thus far seen more male than female Elezen, so maybe rarity breeds interest.
My cat-boy friend, however, while sometimes shy, is plenty willing to speak his mind (especially when intoxicated) and actually has white hair. He does get approached out of the blue, but it's for unwanted erp (/payrespects), not technically for compliments.

I might be the exception but, here is how I decided what I play:
I started free to play after some friends of me basically told me to check out the game, so I didn't have all the race options at the time. I am a man so I only looked at male races (while I don't try to recreate me personally, I always play male characters. Only exception I can think if right now is Femshep from the original ME series, I played maleshep first and then her because of the voice acting and differences in the story). In addition, it was my plan to main one of the tankjobs, since none of my friends main a tankrole and I had no issues doing that, so I wanted a race that felt like it can take a hit. Lala went out of the window because of that. Roegadyn were an option, they do feel like they can take a hit, but I still found them a bit boring for a fantasy game, because they are basically just buff humans. Hyur are just humans, which I rarely play in fantasy and Miquote look more like an agile class. Elezen for me looked more like something caster related. And Viera didn't really look like they can take a punch very well. Aura however felt right to me, while not massive they have a build that looks tougher compared to miquote for example (I think it is due to the shoulders), and they do look interesting with their horns ect.
And while it is true that my Aura has red hair (also a red armor glam - I am Gunbreaker since level 60 basically, love the job), that mainly comes down to: most of my characters have that. I somehow like that. But I am the complete opposite of brooding edgy boi, I actually like to joke around as often as I can, because I want to have fun (and that is my way to have fun, interact with people, have nice chats and laugh, make others laugh).
I will say however that I think every race has something interesting going on, I can see the appeal of every race for some players. I really like how cute Lala can look and act (even though they surely are evil and very dangerous, I am looking at you Tataru), and I also love the design of female Aura, they are pretty and I really like their animations. But I do look at pretty much every race there is, I am often curious how people dress their characters, there are so many possibilities.

    My experience.
Male Midlanders: Average or bald guy running around with just underwear on.
Fem Midlanders: For some reason usualy not that good. They usualy have deep story build around theire WOL.
Male Highlanders: Big male. Has axe. Clears all content. Only tank.
    Fem Midlanders: Mommy
Male Elezen: Would never use fantasia. Loyal to the end.
    Fem Elezen: 404
    Male Lalafell: Small memer.
Fem Lalafell: They scare me. Their voices haunt me.
Male Miqo'te: Theire population was halfed after bun bois got relesed. Usually good at the game.
Fem Miqo'te: Best girl for fourth place. Invading species. There is so many of them that you will find players who can not clear anyting to someone who will lead DRU group.
    Male Roegadyn: Big memer.
    Fem Roegadyn: Mommy
Male Au Ra: Listens Linkin park and no one can understand his pain. [Insert edgy here]
Fem Au Ra: The most UwU race. Will invite you to theire extreme raid progression group.
Male Viera: Was horny cat boi. Now horny bun. Wants to wear hats.
Fem Viera: Just horny. Wants to wear hats.
Male Hrothgar: I have not seen bad Hrothgar player. But can you still wear shirt? Wants to wear hats.
Fem Hrothgar: We can only hope for furry Mommy. Surely we all can wear hats when she is relesed. Right? right...?

Fun fact for me. Outside of hair similar to mine (Which is brown to a deep brown that looks black sometime. Lighting is cruel) But the name wouldn't follow edge colors as I used blues, oranges, and purples. I do like black as a color. Its the color I see before dreams, and find it super calming. But ff14 has had me be pretty colorful, and I liked it.... Then hrothgar came out and never went back. The one thing that has remained the same. Is the... Glasses... Which is something I use in real life... And recently scratched the blue light filter off. AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

    Hi fanta addict here.
As soon as the bunboi came out I keep gravitating towards it. Although I'm a woman irl I just love the femboy aesthetic for some reason. I'm currently a black moonkeeper catgirl and I really like her design so I've been having an internal conflict on if I want to switch back to male viera (for the 4th time) or not.

  • @IronLordEXO
    @IronLordEXO Год назад +31

I have a couple reasons for playing Hyur:
    - I was recreating my old D&D character, who was a half-elf, and Elezen....definitely don't meet the standard I'm used to when it comes to elf design, so Midlander was my closest bet.
    - Posture. I cannot stand characters with bad posture when they stand, walk run or sit, so that eliminates pretty much every other race in the game for me (which is a shame cause I do love Hrothgar but man they cannot stand upright).
    - Glams. Midlanders having a "bAsIc" body structure is actually their strongest asset. Their neutral and realistic body proportions makes them the only race in the game that can pull off any possible glam.
That being said, I still think all races are fantastic in their own way 😀

    • @Aevum13th

I'm still very new to the game, but can't you change posture? I remember my Lalafell was standing or sitting in a certain way, and I changed their posture via emotes. That said, I don't think there is anything for running animations.

As a Male Viera, I can promise you that I am not a femboy irl. If I could, I’d make my bun boi shorter since I played Lalafell before. This is the main reason why I’d love to have hybrid races exist in game. Short stack Lalafell with bunny ears/cat ears and tail/dragon horns and tail.
Lore wise I think would work since we already have a Hyur/Elezen hybrid, but design wise it would be a pain. Even Yoshida said so at Fan Fest 2018, when someone asked him about it and he face palmed.

Hrothgar player here. I don't get too many compliments on my glamour or my character but I get a lot of people who run up to me just to hug or pet me. It's awkward and the best thing about being a Hrothgar.
(Tangent: One time a random Viera girl gave me a new gunblade because she inspected my character and saw it was outdated. She just traded me a new gunblade, complimented me on my glamour and then left. That random Viera was Zepla Moon on Phoenix. I didn't know her back then. She wasn't even streaming that day. She does this in her free time. She wasn't even streaming. That's just what she does off-stream. She is legit just really nice. Tangent over.)
I also like meeting other Hrothgar in dungeon because many Hrothgar get excited to see another Hrothgar player. And there are many hugs and pets.
Never met a bad Hrothgar player either.
I also cannot blame Hrothgar for being either shirtless or in full tank gear.
Glamouring for Hrothgar is savage difficulty since a lot of pieces just end up being too bulky and/or just looking weird. So, either you lean into it and go full armour, or you go zero armour as Hrothgar don't look as naked as other races when shirtless, OR you spend hours in front of that glamour dresser. I do all of the above.

Sometimes I felt like the hunched idle poses also played a little part of making it look weird. Though I use often varied types of clothing from shirtless, to light to heavy.
What I usually love about some of the clothing such as sleeveless ones is how well the fur matches on some dyed pieces. But whenever I see anyone talk about shirtless it always brings me of that dialogue Radovan from the Gunbreaker quests once said:
''We Hrothgar are quite used to snow and ice, so we sometimes forget the problems it poses for other races. This morning, a homeless Hyur lad was found lying stone cold in the street.''
