  • Media reports have confirmed that ULEZ and the forthcoming expansion are all about generating revenue for TFL (Transport for London) rather than actually trying to clean the air. They've already figured out how much they will make and how it will start to decline within just a few years.

Why is everyone already accepting/forgetting about the fact that the ULEZ was already expanded a couple years ago to the north and south circular?? So we are completely ok with that now. Move a little forward, then wait for the outrage to subside and people to get desensitised and then forward again.

I get the impression that Khan and the TFL are now getting very desperate over this ULEZ outrage. A booklet from them recently arrived through my front door churning out the same old rubbish. It must have cost thousands of money to print and distribute. Regular "adverts" get broadcast via Smooth Radio with now a chirpy girl blurting out "Did you know ULEZ is being expanded etc." And there is still the much awaited Court Hearing to arrive next month. Question. I haven't been to London for about 40 years and don't intend to ever go there again. Out of interest could someone who doesn't know the roads cross London in their car and not get any fines ?. If this was for people's health then surely the underground would be the best place to start. In fact if TFL trains put out to much than the mayor should be fined every time they start up.

0:46 this makes a lot of sense as I always questioned the ULEZ as 20 years ago the government was encouraging people to buy Diesels as they were more fuel efficient and less polluting than any other vehicles, which is very true to back this, the Road tax system has made a lot of newer Petrol & Diesels cheaper on Road tax compared to some petrol models, this is the crazy thing I had a 2002 1.4 VW Lupo Auto that was nearly £300 on Road tax for the year compared to my 2012 2.0 VW Golf however the Lupo drank on petrol like crazy but was ULEZ compliant and my Golf which is 3 times more fuel efficient than the Lupo is less than half the cost on road tax compared to the Lupo but I have to play ULEZ for my car, tell me if this is not corrupt or not. It is definitely a scam as most driver cannot afford to buy newer cars than what they have and for some drivers the charges is killing their pockets which is sad because this is putting a lot of drivers off the road, if you think about how the ULEZ is set up it is targeted towards drivers that CANNOT afford to change their cars this is not fair I wish something could be done about this 😢

Sadiq Khan’s, to reduce toxic air by expanding the ULEZ to greater London will not work.
He doesn’t really care about toxic air quality and here is why:
    - He has already made the toxic air far worse since he has introduced the LTN’s which have increased the toxic air on the main roads because we are forced to use them as there are no other alternatives, especially during rush hour. The roads are now grid locked with traffic moving at walking pace and the fumes are getting denser and not dispersing. LTN’s need to be reopened as it is causing more damage than good.
Among all this, the mileage in vehicles has also increased due to the fact that we are forced to go the long way round to get to the required destination - all accumulating to even more emission being emitted! Bravo Sadiq & team.
    - The health for pedestrians and children as they walk along these main routes to get to stations, schools, shops is deteriorating. Even the drivers inhale more fumes when we are stuck in stationary traffic. This is really aggravating and makes no sense!
    - Cycle Lanes: Should not be taking up an extra lane of the roads, large pavements could be divided into two for cyclists.
    - The introductions of 20MPH roads are also a problem because emission fumes don’t disperse quickly and the air is getting even more polluted because of the need to drive in lower gears.
Sadiq’s statement: “It is to reduce toxic air pollution” is clearly not accurate and is making matters worse. The situation is getting extremely out of hand and something needs to be done to stop him from ruining our climate even more. He should resign and Londoners should vote for someone who will make London a greater and more desirable place to live in. There needs to be a more logical and strategic plan that is well thought.

I commuted on a motorbike from northwest London to east London almost everyday for 15 years, and I cannot agree. For example, he took measurements on Marylebone Road on what what looks to be a fairly clear day in Summer at Baker Street - same for Oxford Circus - and traffic was busy, but not rush hour when I travelled. Please show us measurements on Euston Road at rush hour in January. I always had to wear a mask of some sort at those points. It was said at that time to be the most polluted area in the UK, and we got fined by the EU for it for many years without doing anything about it. I don’t know about the ULEZ extension. But personally I think we should take a more direct approach - especially with black cabs - many of which clearly well exceed pollution levels. Vans too should be better monitored. Oh, and don't forget the poor woman who dared to have a miscarriage and 'forgot' to pay her CC charge, well you would wouldn't you, it's a traumatic experience. She appealed on the basis of her miscarriage and TFL refused to waive the fine. In their letter TFL said they “Whilst TfL recognises that this must have been a distressing time for you, there is a responsibility for the appropriate charge to have been paid for the use of a vehicle on a road within the Congestion Charging Zone.
“We have considered fully the issues raised and decided that on this occasion we are unable to exercise discretion and the PCN will not be cancelled.”
Yes, they eventually backtracked when Khan intervened but what cold hearted person sent that letter in the first place.
