I went through hours of grief this summer after replacing the bulkhead to screen seal. I eventually had to grind one of the upper bolts to a cone shape to get it in. That job's now on the list of Never To Do Again.
G'Day Mike. Mate I just use a bit of 2mm rubber mat that I grab from Bunnings and cut new gaskets as required. Then I put a bit of Silicone Marine Joint sealer onto the bolts at about half way along the bolt just as I insert them into the bolt holes. No more leaks ever. PS: All bolts replaced with A4 (316) Stainless Bolts.
I know all about putting a new foam seal on the windscreen. I had my son stood in the car pushing down on the windscreen frame whilst I struggled with the bolts. After a lot of swearing and wondering why I could get the top and bottom bolts in, but not the middle one, it was at this point I realised that the brackets are ’handed’ 🤦♂️😂
Mike I think you'll find those casting "voids" like in back of those brackets are done to save on casting material, they probably get another full casting out of what is saved from four.
Hi Mike happy birthday! This couldn’t have been better timed. My 90 has been dripping on my right foot for the few years I’ve owned it when parked in the rain on flat ground. Never got to the source of it until now THANK YOU The top bracket seal was letting buy and the cavity was damp. So new seals and a load of grease to fill cavity’s . Tissue paper now stuffed in tactically to test my handy work and I await the next rains which won’t be long !!! Thank you thank you
you could use waxoil, put some it in the fridge or freezer, so it goes thick easier to pack in, or waterproof chassis grease, and clap the bugger on 😁🤞
I had to do the ones on my Jeep WJ as after about 15 years the metal part gets really rusty and bulges out the rubber I found the best way to get the old ones off was to take a strip of wood and cut it to make a wedge so I was able to leaver the sides of the rubber/metal and they just poped off then just put the new ones on looks so much nicer.
hello mike, the answer to that gasket problem on the windscreen, clown designers who as you said do not have l/rovers. why are they fixed screens in the first place ? good luck,
Hi Mike, restoring my 91 defender truck cab and the windscreen bottom seal is the old rubber type, still in good nik, should i re use it? seems a lot better quality than the new sponge type ones
Not related to this video...ever have any trouble with timing chain gears. I have a 4.2 pre-serpentine that i suspect has broken its chain or gear..it only has 40k miles on its rebuild

Yeap - wonder how they do it in the factory?

Oh wow!

Probably right!

Glad to help

plastered mine with sealant, yes it made a mess and needed some cleaning but it's never leaked since :)

Loving the moustache......also would love a book of your jokes Fill Ma Cavity lols you are silly 😭😭😅😭😅😭
Good job. Need to do this on my Wolf.
Thanks Mike.
Go for it!
Mike can you do a review on the door mirrors. Not seen that set up before.
Many thanks Neil.
Yes they are shatter proof as far as I know - will have a look tomorrow - been doing wiring on this today - what a mess due to corrosion
Spafax shatter proof mirrors, as fitted to MOD Wolfs. Good kit but can bloom after a time.
I wonder if crown rustproofing will restore faded black plastics?:)
Not sure - will give it a go

Mike, couldn't you put the bolts through and then slip an o-ring on the end?
I guess you could
So as long as you do one at a time there is no risk of the windscreen moving?
Should be OK
Land Rover filled the windscreen holes with putty before the bolts in the factory.

The sponge type are better and are closed cell foam which makes a decent seal
Hi, which seal do you use for the bottom door seal? Greets from not kaputt Germany.
ALR6250
Why does it look like the vent flap retaining pin is falling out? Towards the centre of the car on the (Left Hand Drive) Driver's side.
Because the owner didn't pry open the end of the pins

Sorry no experience of V8 chain problems like that - they are pretty simple
I made some new gaskets out of an old inner tube 😂
That would work!
That's what my old dad would have done, he would look around the shed for inspiration and having no cash, he'd make do with what was available
Are you an advocate of repainting the old ones after sanding the corrosion down or it doesn’t last?
Try to do as much as you can to stop corrosion!
@@BritannicaRestorations can they rust the firewall if left untreated?
Drill and tapp it put a grease nipple in !
Love it people who make these dont own Landrovers 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Possibly true!
👍👍
Penguin cancer hahaha 🐧
