Gary, I am very sorry to hear of your difficulties, I have been following your videos for some time and do miss them. however, your health is a damn sight more important than trying to please us. Keep well and I hope you get well enough to share your expertise with us in the not to distant future. Kind Regards from your fans in Australia
Glad to see you're back. Please don't ever apologize for something beyond your control like your surgery. I appreciate that you continue to try and keep working, Thank you for the update.
Sorry to hear about your medical problems. I have almost the same problems with my legs and feet.. They told me that I need a back operation, ... Thanks for the idea for tightening up the gasket. Great video !
thanks for the update Gary, glad that your OK. I know its a massive issue and is serious but I feared much worse. good luck, were all right behind you.
Hello Gary. Sorry to hear of your issues with your hand, which of course in your profession is very serious. Now, I've been watching and enjoying many of your videos over the winter, and was about to comment on your next, which of course you couldn't do until now. Always the way eh! I come from a family of blacksmiths, hence my watching videos on the subject. So I just wanted to say your the best I've seen, like watching my Father when I grew up. Take care Malc.
glad to see you're still up and kicking about despite your hand problems! my dad has been suffering from a similar condition for about 15 years now, and I might be able to suggest some things that have helped my father in the past.
Glad to see you back. Very interesting video, as all your videos are. Hope the next operation is a success and all the very best wishes from me. - Martin
Glad to hear some new from you, hang in there man. My wife is in the same situation as you except it's in both wrist. The surgery made it worse and now they can't find what went wrong and they gave her medication that numb all her sense. Good luck and take care.
hope you heal up soon. i too suffer of a bad wrist (my fault) and i know the feeling. i imagine you are trying everything but baths in a hot infusion of chamomile has helped me a lot. i try to stay away from synthetic meds as well as synthetic docs. take care pete
Damn Gary, I hate to hear this! Hopefully that letter will come in soon and you'll have a surgeon that knows his ass from a hole in the ground. I've been wondering how you were getting on and I figured your absence had something to do with the surgery or other health issues. Good luck and keep your fans updated!
You'd never know you had painted them. They look like they came from the factory. Which is a job well done. Also sounds like they screwed up and damaged some nerves. Hope they can get all that sorted. I had a doc tell me once when I complained about my hands hurting that I should just try and not use them so much. hahaha yeah like that's an option. Ugh doctors. All the best, Jay
Hi Gary. Nice to see you back. Sorry to hear about your problem with your wrist. Hope all goes well for you. How did you get on with the gas leek in the field? Best wishes, Malc
on the carprel tunnel,My biological father had it bad in both hands and had to get operations.I think his was from metal work as well from long welding days on the job and daily abuse in life.
Hi Gary, I greatly enjoy your videos. Seems the older we get the more things go wrong. In one of your earlier videos you showed how to get some extra life out of a flap disc. Do you remember which vodeo or could you repeat it? Thanks, another Gary
As others have said, sympathies with the nerve damage. Also, why do people do dark printing when wearing light colours and vice versa? and yes I'm guilty of it too.
Sorry to hear about your wrist problems mate, hope you can get it sorted out quickly. Could you take on an apprentice perhaps? Send em out to do all the trims, save your wrist from the cutting and twisting.
+dyingsun23 Funnily enough, the shoeing, now i'm doing almost all of it hot isn't too much of a problem. It's the heavy work on the anvil that kills it!
+garyhuston When the drug is started at full dose, that is very common. I usually start around 1/4th the final dose and increase it to full dose over about 10 days. Otherwise people feel light headed and sort of stoned.
+Frank B I went from 300mg twice a day upto 900mg over the course of two weeks and no real relief but terrible side effects so decided to come off it and bear the discomfort. Only problem was I stopped dead and got terrible withdrawal symptoms so had to go back on it and come off slowly!
I feel for you Mate, from what you have said you have Perriferial Pneroperthy????? I have it in my feet and I think also my hands and it seems to be getting worse, my feet are numb up to about my ankles but the feeling goes to my knees the feeling is like what you said your hand is doing, burning sensations like when your hands are really really cold needles getting stuck in and pain like constant Gout but the soles are super super sensitive, I find it hard to walk on uneven surfaces because I can't feel properly and it never stops. Nothing has been said to me about fixing it only pain relief which is Oxycondone in ever increasing doses, I did some checking on the net and it can affect your whole body including your internal organs.. I think I would be having a good talk to someone to see what the chances of recovery is and what are the risks of it getting worse before I let them have a go again..... Good luck
I've had some really good treatment from the NHS and some 'not so much'. It depends on who you get to see. Like all nationalised industries the NHS seems to be somewhat unaccountable unless they get caught out with something really bad, low level incompetence seems to go by the board. This appears to be a 2016 video, so I hope your hand has improved in the meantime.
Would you wearing a carpel tunnel wrist brace help? Maybe minimizing the wrist motion would cause less irritation and let the nerves try to heal. Sorry your healthcare system is so slow there. I imagine your best doctors go to the private sector for better income. Our Veteran's Administration did both of my hands and it's considered relatively slow, by the standards here, but it took less than a year from start to finish, one hand at a time. Best of luck with everything...
+Idaho Sagebrush No, a brace is no good, tried that. Only any good in mild cases that may recover on their own. The doctors work for both, the one I saw does private work in a clinic down the road from the hospital. The private one I saw also works in the hospital I had the op in and both know each other!

Good health to you. When health care is provided by those who have to provide it quality is not a necessity.

Gary,
Missed the videos, but it sounds like your really going through it, get well soon
Had been wondering about the hand thing on account of the lack of new videos.
Hope all works out all right second time around.
Welcome back!! :)

+Artymong L. Don't remember which video but all you do is take the leading edge off by running it on an old rasp or even against a grinding wheel.
small bits like this i like to heart in a toaster oven at a 175 deg for a few hrs till hardened
Hope you get a competent doc this time, and he squares your hand away ship-shape!
As others have said, sympathies with the nerve damage.
Also, why do people do dark printing when wearing light colours and vice versa? and yes I'm guilty of it too.
i would have added silicone to wind screen seal before tightening
Sounds like they nicked a nerve in there. I need to get mine fixed but stories like this make me nervous.

It can be a nasty drug. I hope the surgeon can help. Neuropathic pain is bad.
Best wishes,
