      If my memory is right, there was nothing else like it around at the time, certainly not mainstream. He was the figurehead for the early 2000's "chav" youth culture way before the mainstream even knew what a chav was. His music was relatable to any teenage lad from the council estates or suburbs who liked to blaze or get laggin. That album, a grand dont come for free, was like an hour long story...really original idea. He didnt try and be anything he wasnt, i always respect that in any artist. I remember him headlining with lilly allen at glastonbury wishing i was there. Top lad and i'd like to see more of him.

    • @CharlieCoops

      Get to a live show mate. They're fucking great. First english accent I heard rapping on a mainstream song - other garage artists had american accents. It's a shame he's been labelled with the chav moniker throughout his career...tough to shake off.

    I love Birmingham! I grew up here for almost 8 years. Came from Poland when I was a kid, and now I'm almost an adult. I enbrace the culture, I've been hanging out with the blacks and Asian bros Mainly. They treated me like one of their own. This is the beauty of my city. Birmingham is my city! We all live through struggle here. We are all a minority in a way, and yet we are amazing and special just the way we are.
    Way more unified and respectful towards each other than London.

    As a frenchman it feels like the "story" of the rising of the Bermingham HipHop scene it's quite similar to the Marseille one in the late 90's, a big multicultural city with people with a strong accent in it, its own vibe and proper identity, but they manage to create their own sound and reach bigger audience, and when you listen to it you know where it's from totally different from what Parisien people produce

    • @Stoney-Jacksman
      @Stoney-Jacksman Год назад +1

      Very different. The things IAM and 3eme oueil etc have done is legendary. Hiphop in France was very new. Marseille was truly a ghetto in certain places. Also the Marseille accent is beautiful. And it was a movement and birthed classic insanely deep and artful pieces of art like Demain c'est loin (the video alone is a piece of art) ne sous la meme etoile and them fOnky family came with 'cherche pas a comprendre'. Come on man..this brum ish is ok..but it doesnt come close to the legendary work and struggle of rap in Marseille.
      And im from amsterdam..have a lot of fam in france tho. Peace

      @Njm2812 6 лет назад

      dskillz32 clearly missed my point, ofc i know that americans made rap wtf, we respect ya’ll for that. My point is that were not NEW to this as in, its been around for time over here. Not like recent years, i meant its been around here for a while rap music, not that we made it over here in the early 80s. Read it first before u comment g

    • @dskillz32
      @dskillz32 6 лет назад

      JayoGotBeats NO, you clearly didnt understand my original point, which was that you guys being Relatively new to hip hop on the general timeline of its origin, couldnt be 'helping to take hip hop global" as proclaimed in the original comment. It was global before anyone in this video or the "early 2000s" made any impact. American rappers from the 80s and forward were already doing international shows. So how could anyone later on be helping to do something that had already been done? That was my point. Like i said before, yall new to this shit. Try reading for comprehension next time my guy, appreciate the effort tho.
