Karina, you looked LOVELY!!! THEY LOOKED LIKE DRESSES! For you plain dress yes😉 but beautiful nonetheless! You look sooo lovely in all black with black hair! You go lady doing a new sewing skill that you haven't done before and knocking it out of the park! 👏🏾
They make fold over elastic for a reason - and this a great place to use it. It would be a pain to make your own bindings. Great suggestion for a pattern. I think a lot of ladies would like to give this a try.
Thanks Karina for showing us how it fits. You convinced me to buy the pattern because of that. You also make the fold over elastic look less daunting and I never would have thought to use it for the straps. Now I can't wait to make it.
Great video Karina! You are so correct, these are amazing under dresses and to sleep in too (depending on fabric). I made one in black rayon jersey a couple of years ago to go under a dress that was very “see thru”. It’s pretty worn now, so thanks for the reminder to make another and the swim wear fabric tip!
Brilliant ideas. I was going to buy this pattern for summer PJ’s. And the cropped pants to go for walks in, they look so similar to a RTW pair I already have and love. Thanks for the demo on fold over elastic, and v-neck tip! Brilliant! 💕👏🏼💕👍🏼
I LOVE the idea of making the slip reversible and also the way that you put it together sewing the side seams last. I’m going to follow these tricks making some slips and camis of my own. I need some rayon slips (polyester and nylon=sweat and B.O. for me) and I can’t find rain slips in the store. Thanks for the great video!
I find it easier to do the side seams last. My black fabric is not polyester and nylon, it’s polyamide, a high tech sport wear and swim fabric. It’s wicking and fresh.
I did manage to get the pattern eventually and have to say I am really pleased with the cami I have made from it. I also watched your thrift blouses video so also cut out another two from two overlarge t shirts I had decided to thrift because I have lost quite a lot of weight. So they were recycled and now I have three camis and am super pleased. Thank you so much for your videos.
I've made the nightgown & love it. What a great idea for a slip!! I'll have to keep this in mind. Slips are hard to find now days. And those sliders are a pain!!
I definitely need slips too, just been and got this pattern, and ordered some fold over elastic from the auction site, I have some fabric so I’m quite excited for making a couple of slips or maybe camisoles. Great idea to use fold over elastic, the straps won’t fall down. Thank you for another great tutorial.x
Hi Karina ... great video. I actually reached out to Tami earlier in the year about this exact hack. I noticed the reversible neckline in the stores and though it would be a great option in a pattern. In the stores they always charge so much for simple things like this, they're never the right size and the fabric/color options are always so limited. Have a feeling it will be a very useful layering piece for me. Thanks for the tutorial. I just received an order of FOE and lingerie fabrics and plan to make a cami and nighty next.
I’ve noticed this feature too for a very long time with my own RTW slips and camis. They are old and showing wear and tear. The ones I find here in Brazil are full of transparency and features I don’t want/need. I’m happy my video was helpful :)
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles One question, I see your FOE is perfect and not jogged at the edge ... is there a 'trick' to serging the side seams so the ends align? Sometimes it works for me but most times it doesn't. I'm not sure what I'm doing to cause the inconsistency.
Lovely basic slips. Slips are hard to buy now. I think young girls and women don’t wear them anymore. These look wonderful! It shouldn't be so hard to find a basic slip, but I think a lot of women are so used to not finding slips to purchase that they just don't wear them, even when maybe they should. For some sleeveless dress the underarm on yours may be a tiny bit high and be visible as you move. Then with sliders you could adjust the straps so the the underarm hits a tiny bit lower. But that will probably never happen (a sheer sleeveless dress). I love that elastic! Looks super useful and practical ... and easy to use! Remind me what top you're wearing, if you can ... Looks amazing on you! Thanks, Karina. 💚💚💚
I’m wearing the Vivace dolman from Love Notions. I see lots of people wearing items that would be so much better with a slip. My mum was always a huge slip wearer and I grew up with knowing the importance of them. I loved making these and hope to make in more colors.
Creative choice of fabric that would not have occurred to me. After frustration trying to thread those overlocker threads through a needle I have had faster results with a small metal crochet hook that does not get lost so easily.
I'm about to make some summer dresses and am old enough to appreciate the difference a good slip makes. Thanks for sharing your experience :) Also, that lipstick color is perfect on you....very pretty!
I have a few slipes but none that really fits. I was not planning to buy this pattern, but now it is in my wish list and I am getting it! 😀 Thanks for the tuto for the fold elastic!
Thank you for the video. Never heard of the fold over elastic. Would love to make the bra one. That’s swimwear material is it not too hot for hot weather climate.Thank you have a wonderful day and stay safe you and your family thank you very much beautiful lady.
They look amazing, thank you for all the wonderful videos, I always look forward to see what you are doing next, you make it look so easy, you are very talented
Slips sort of went out of style for a while, but I have always worn them. I agree on sliders, in hand made, no real need. I also like the idea of a v neck and curved neck, that is a clever idea. I am just waiting for warm temperatures! I love warm days and chilly nights!
What a brilliant idea: making your own slips! I find that RTW ones never quite fit - length is the biggest problem for me. Your solution is genius! You and you family, keep well and safe.
I agree. They are always short and tight... like shape wear and that’s not what I’m after. The ones I’ve seen here have lace and other uncomfortable materials.
Hi Karina ! I love that ! I already have this pattern and for sure, I will copy you. 😁. I have just to wait for the folded elastic. ...... Thank you so much 👍💞
If you have structured knit fabric with high spandex (elastane or Lycra) you could make binding instead. I would have done that if I couldn’t find the elastic.
Thankyou Karina , I have been wondering whether I should buy this pattern because I have some swimwear fabric ,bought my mistake ( like you do ) so camisole’s might be the answer under my clothes , I love your makes and by the way I love that dress too , really lovely 😊!!!
That’s the thing, I wear everything untucked. I never tuck in so I always hem. This time though, because it’s a slip, I serged and didn’t hem. The swim fabric one I hemmed properly because I’ll wear it to the pool.
Great video! Love your slips and seeing your process doing something new to you. Love the look of the zig zag on the fold over elastic. Also really like you modelling on the white background, it made the slip pop. Xx
I love trying new things and finding this notion made it possible. I couldn’t model out on the street as usual this time lol... so the white wall inside it was 😃
I really really like your slips. I need to make a few for myself too. I've been dreading it, you make it look like the simplest task ever. I've got to make the time!
Great tutorial. I liked the idea of using the swimsuit fabric. Also the slips are great for sleeping in or lounging. I can see you in a big flower print while you’re sewing. It’s the perfect garment to wear while you’re sewing. That way you can easily try things on as you sew. Also where did you get that FOE. It looks like a nice soft knitted elastic. Maybe you can share the site. Great job, as always.
You are so sweet... "I sometimes felt like I was a little bit naked, although I wasn't. I was fully clothed." The slip turned out just the way it should. Awesome first time job. No problem. How wide is the elastic?
I've had this pattern for awhile and now you've motivated me to try it. What is the width of your FOE? I have 5/8" and it seems too narrow. Thanks for another great inspirational video.
I have made a couple of cami nighties from this pattern. In the first, I found the neckline really low and as I'd used self made edging, it also stretched slightly with wear, becoming even lower. On the second, I struggled to use those adjusters. The next one, I will use fold over elastic and measure; it makes sense now you've said it, thank you. Two questions please : one, why did you not leave the fold over elastic unsewn for a wider strap? And two, how did you hem the black slip please? Thank you,
The elastic would not sit right unsewn at the straps since it’s one continuous stitch involving the partial armscye where it needs to be folded to cover the raw areas Also it would be too thin and it would stretch if not folded. Also, it goes inside clothes, so the thickness of the strap does not matters like it does with outerwear. Many reasons 😄. I hemmed by turning under 3/4” and using a twin needle. I think the fabric binding needs to be made from a knit with high elastane content and recovery for it to not stretch out. I could’ve used the swim fabric but wanted to try the novelty of the elastic.
This was great! I am just about to sew some slips just like the ones you did. I am using china silk though for most and a charmuse for a camisole. I want to make a whole slip like yours, a half slip for skirts and a camisole for sheer tops. I hope you are ok there. I just read that Brazil has the highest rates of Covid-19 in all of South America. I hope you area able to stay home, wear a mask if you have to go out and social distance 6 feet, and wash hands alot. That is what we are doing to try to stay safe.
Yes it’s true. My local mayor and governor have made masks mandatory and people are taking the right precautions here, maybe because I live in a rural area, this seems more controlled here. My son and I don’t go out at all. We’ve been inside since March 10th. My husband leaves the house only for the essential food every 10 days or so and he is paranoid with the precautions too.
Hello Karina! Thank you very kindly for this tutorial. This came right on time because I am having several issues with fabric availability, reasonable prices and mobility due to "the situation". I looked for tricot and, no tricot to be found. Then I received a Mood Fabric notice: Tricot Galore! and when I looked, I was shocked. Over $21 a yard and all printed. So I am trying to figure out how I can make a slippery fabric cami to wear under fabric that is too sheer for my liking (but the price was reasonable). Rayon span is challenging to find but maybe I can find ITY when our stores open again. So thank you very much for your fabric ideas because after tricot, I had no ideas. Question: given the climate you live in, how does your swimsuit fabric slip feel on you? Is it hot? Thank you also for your suggesting from Love Notions also and your modification for the V neck. Needed this as well! XOXO
I made more with binding made from the same knit as the main garment but it’s not bias tape, it’s not cut on the bias, it’s a knit and it does not need to be on the bias. You can see it here ruclips.net/video/xStYY-RGhzo/видео.html
Karina, what would you recommend for hot summer weather? I have a single gauze that I’m going to make into a dress- should I do a woven slip instead? Not sure what the best fabric would be to use. Thanks in advance!
I like the feel of rayon spandex for a fresh feel. In Spain it could be called viscolycra or viscosa con elastano. You could make a woven slip with a woven cami pattern like the Ogden cami for sure too 😃.
Hi Karina... great tutorial thank you muchly. I’d love to use this pattern unfortunately my hip measurements are a 4x in the L.N size range.. bust is at 2x grading to a 4x.. is there any chance for me to extend the sizing for this pattern for me? Your help and advice would be Greatly Appreciated. Cheers from Australia
I think grading the hips is the easier places to grade. Look at the distance between the 2x and the 3x at the hips and draw another line in the same distance. Then blend to the size you need for the bust and waist :)
Could I adapt the shoulder so that the straps are wider over the shoulders, I find the straps just fall off my shoulders otherwise. Looking at the pattern it goes to a point.
The straps are always very narrow in cami tops like this, especially with the fold over elastic. The option I see is to make self binding that is wider, but the binding can’t really made súper súper wide either. I’d say the widest a binding could work is a finished width of 3/4”. Wider and it will not lay right or conform to the curves of the body.
Karina I was looking to bind my neckline on light stretch top I did te same length and width the front neckline came out beaut it the back stretched out too much what did Iwrong? Too bad I can’t share pic. I don’t want to get rid of top but not sure if it can be fixed at this point
Karina I did the same stitch length and width on my neckline on a light stretch jersey top .. the front cam out beautiful but the back cam out very loose what did I do wrong?
The pattern will be updated to 5x at some point but if you know how to grade, you can. Grading is not something I can explain in a written comment here.

XOXO
The fabric feels cool on. It’s polyamide and it’s wicking. I like the feel. Knit fabrics can be pricey unfortunately:(
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thank you!
Great info many thanks
Hi Karina have you made the srap that goes over the shoulder with biaz binding before. Can it work 🤗
I made more with binding made from the same knit as the main garment but it’s not bias tape, it’s not cut on the bias, it’s a knit and it does not need to be on the bias.
Lifting Pins and Needles thank you! It’s so hot here in summer, the thought of adding a layer makes me sweat just thinking about it!
I ill have to add this patten to my stash :-)
I do seem to be having trouble with the link to the pattern but will keep trying.

Thank you so much 😊
Can I use stretch cotten?
Yup. It’s one of the recommended fabrics :)
thank you karina i also need those im sure u are also doing them in white or skin color right? now i know what foldover elastic is for
When I find the right fabric that is not see through, I’ll make a lighter color one too :)
Lifting Pins and Needles thank you Karina. I will try your advice. 3/4 inch should be fine💕
Thank you Karina, this is a really helpful video. You tips are much appreciated. Did you hem these or leave the hem raw?
How did you finish the hems?
I mentioned both hems and showed them on the video. The black is turned up and twin needles and the rayon one is just serged.
Wonderful. How did you finish the hem of the black swimwear slip?
Fold un and twin needle :)

Is it possible to grade this up to 5x..thanks
The pattern will be updated to 5x at some point but if you know how to grade, you can. Grading is not something I can explain in a written comment here.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles thanks..i bought it without realizing it went up to 3x.....will just wait for d upgrade
@@evelynarchie9616 I did mention that it hadn’t been updated yet when I talked about sizing
