    Beautiful fabrics; I look forward to seeing how you use them. I'm a fairly new sewist and your channel is so helpful to me. Thank you! The fusible bias stay tape that you showed has added to my curiosity about various ways to stabilize fabrics. I'm rather confused about when to use things like this stay tape, clear elastic tape, bias vs. non-bias interfacings, woven/non-woven/knit interfacings, twill tapes/ribbons. If you ever feel inclined to make a video about demystifying fabric stabilization, I'd be very interested - or perhaps might you point me to good information resources that already exist and I simply haven't found yet? Many thanks, and happy sewing!

    Thanks for showing your wool fabrics. I would love to see more videos showing different types of fabric and what they would best be used for. I am a new sewist - about 2 years now. I am deeply into learning sewing the proper ways, but I have had some trouble with a couple of my garments that I made with selecting the right fabric. The suggestions on the patterns do help a bit but not completely. Thanks from Oklahoma - Linda

    I really enjoyed looking at your fabrics. I haven't seen wool in such a variety of woven patterns. I have a collection of wools myself, including wool voile and wool satin. I made up the aubergine coloured satin into a dress, but I have grown out of it. Mostly, I have lovely quality wool gabardine.
    Like you, I don't like plaids much, unless they are cut on the bias. I have a Simplicity pattern with a photo on the envelope of a bias cut skirt with a perfectly carefully matched seam in the front.
    I will have to live to 180 years old, just to sew up all my wools, let alone wear them. But I have decided that they are my art collection.

    Love the boucles! A tip for those with a wool fabric stash, especially if you live in a damp climate prone to moths. I store my woolens & cotton in plastic tubs and pop in a small netting bag - like a gift bag - filled with dried lavender buds. This keeps the bugs away and my fabric smelling fresh!

      There’s a weird reason that moths don’t thrive around here. I’ve never seen one in the house! Ever. I’m glad :)

    Love the wool review. Like you Karina, I caress and treasure my wools. And also cannot wear them most of the year in north Florida. Occasionally, I can find a tropical weight wool suiting which can make trousers that can we wear in air conditioning indoors in the summer months. But haven’t seen any in years.
    Hands down your channel continues to be my FAVORITE. Thank you so much for working so hard on so many aspects of garment construction. 💗

    A lot of nice fabric. Years ago, I worked with this lady who had a skirt and matching top made of fabric like the red and black you have. Instead of hemming both pieces, she left the edges frayed, making a type of fringe on the ends, which looked really nice.

    I love all those stunning pieces of fabric. Please make something with them, and show us how you do the full fusible instead of lining in a traditional manner. I have seen linen professionally fusible-lined to make it more sturdy for upholstery and wonder if it could be done with woven wool.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 дня назад +1

      I would not interface instead of lining. I do both. It’s a matter of comfort too and lining provides that.

    Beautiful fabrics! I'm looking forward to your video about handling wool. I've used a lot of wool for knitting, but I don't think I've ever sewn it. So many lovely fabrics! How do you choose which one to sew first? 🤔😊 I’m looking forward to your episode on sewing with wool - any tips are always welcome. When I get loosely woven fabrics, the first thing I do is serge/overlock the cut edges. It stops the fraying and makes handling them so much easier.

  • @marcyschulman8974
    @marcyschulman8974 9 дней назад +1

    Love all of these! I never thought of interfacing the entire garment! When you do that, do you interface the fabric first and then cut out your pieces, or cut first?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  9 дней назад +3

      I interface the piece of fabric for the shape first. I cut it a little bigger all around. Then I put the pattern piece on top and cut. It takes ages :)

    Love most of those fabrics, but the geometric and boucle fabrics are lovely. Just about to cut out my 100% Yorkshire woven wool fabric to make a winter coat (it's getting cold in the UK now). It's not too heavy. I made a wearable toile from some wool mix, although I don't know how much wool it actually contains - I bought it from FB marketplace and the seller wasn't sure - not much by the feel of it. I made the Love Notions Octave, shortened a little to make a jacket, but I am not keen on the off-centre button so I have decided to make the Wardrobe By Me Classic Coat.

  • @lindak8664

    I pat my wool fabrics too, and wonder why the heck I wasted money on them 😂 the last thing i made from a winter weight fabric was 2 winters ago and its still on my mannequin. The two cold winter days I actually go out, i never remember it’s there or i go 🥵 its not cold enough for that.
    Your fabrics are gorgeous! You have such a pretty variety waiting to pat there ☺️ Can’t wait to see your wool series.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  9 дней назад

      I’d prefer to serge than zig zag, for times sake. I keep them safe and rarely manipulate them. Also, I won’t throw them in the wash, so that’s why I’ve left them as is.

    Lovely fabrics I ❤ them ALL. understand you completely as I live in a hot climate so I tend to buy more linen, viscose , cottons and light jerseys.
    I would like to ask do you use a stretch interfacing or just a light woven interfacing when interfacing the whole project in this kind of wool ? What fabric is yr preferred lining for this kind of woolen fabrics ? Tks 😊

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  9 дней назад

      I have used stretch interfacing and also regular VERY light weight non stretch fusible. For lining, I am loving light cotton lawn and plain weave light rayon.

    It surprises me that you would stock flannel & wool. I live and learn. Wool is wonderful and real wool clothing is as scarce as hens teeth these days. I am a quilter and bought some batting tape. It is inexpensive and works great in garment sewing in areas you wish to stabilize.
