Can you help me figure out why i have constipation? I eat 5-7 fruits a day, 7 veggies, ... basically I only eat whole foods. I drink plenty of fluids have a normal bmi and my bp is 110/70. I am a mtb racer and train 6 days a week ( 20 hours a week ) but yet i am only able to go to the bathroom every 3-4 days and have to strain out log sized poops that clog my toilet. I eat 10 prunes a day. I recently cut sugar our of my diet. What am I missing? Love what you do, you have helped me turn around my life around after a near death heart attack ....

More fiber. Psyllium husk. And even more water.

    • @littlevoice_11
      @littlevoice_11 Год назад +2

      A few tips...
It is not just the amount of fibre but also the type of fibre too.
For example diversity of leafy greens and you may wish to consider fermented food and legumes.
Also psyllium husk, Ground flaxseed and chia seed with plenty of liquid.
How is your sodium level? It may be worth reducing your sodium intake if needed.
Also try supplementing with magnesium can help.
Avoid iron supplements as they are notoriously constipation.
Some medication can cause constipation including painkillers.
The health of your gut microbiome is important, so prebiotics can help along with fermented food.
Food intolerances can cause constipation in some.
Excessive protein can also cause problems too.
Exercise is very useful. Keep active throughout the day with walking, stretching etc.
Herbal teas can help too. Specific herbs can have short and long term digestive health benefits as well as treating constipation

You can get constipated from too much fiber too!! Cut down on fiber for a week, drink more water but not too much, have some coconut water, and see how things come out. Good luck. 👍

My joke is that since going WFPB, when I poop, the angels start singing, rainbows appear, butterflies start to fly around, trumpets sound, and the opening sounds of Beethoven's 6th symphony (The Pastorale) starts playing. The nutritionist I'm working with now knows to ask "rainbows and butterflies?" The answer is almost 100% YES. Just one more reason why I'm so grateful to have learned all this about the WFPB diet!

I had a similar experience. I also eat WFPB, and about 1-2 year ago got some strange gastric symptoms with no obvious cause, including over sensitivity to some spices, and constipation. After one severe episode, got CAT scanned in the ER, and they didn't see anything; the doctor said to drink lots of water.
It was hard to believe that at first, but in fact that's all I needed to do! If I get uncomfortable down there, I drink lots of water, maybe a liter, and that does the trick. Lots of water, even though I don't feel thirsty... Gradually my system seems to be getting back to normal. I just started to try something called "garcinia" from an Asian store..it's similar to tamarind, and it seems to help my system - but that could be a coincidence!
