  • Is there Gold in this clay layer? Gold panning, Gold prospecting North Carolina.
As Prospectors there's a love hate relationship with clay layers. While the clay can give you gold , it can just as quickly take it away. Today we try to find gold in a very dense clay layer. Test panning gold bering material before we put it through the highbanker dredging for gold

The term love-hate is right on target.
I've already broken through three layers of clay.
In the end, the 1st had the most gold.
I don't know, there won't be a formula for that. Well done, mate !

Clay:, gonna categorize it like this "Horribly Amazing". If you're not getting any gold it's just horrible. But, if you're on the gold, it's amazing. Good stuff brother!

I found some clay in a crevice one time. It was blue and very thin I ended up with about a gram of gold out of it. I've been searching ever since but never found more clay. You found some nice pieces in that bad pony. I love mini pickers

I appreciate that. Davidson County has some Beautiful Gold. I haven’t ran into the greenish clay layers there yet but have found some nice gold in the blueish gray clay layers. Thank you Robert

Do yall have the classifer basket for the gold fox sluice box?.
If not just make one that is semi fine screen size to hold the clay andnrocks but allows the fine and coarser chunkier peices through
Let your spray bars or dredge hose do the work for you... then dump off the trash rocks and debris
Clay isn't impossible to process, it just needs time to break up
Istead of 5 or 6 shovel fulls through per minute... Maybe 2 or 3 to allow the water to churn up the box good

You might be on to something Jeff! Next time we hit clay, I’ll try something like that. I appreciate the good idea. Thank you bud!

@@InternalCompassofNC hey man... I was sitting here thinking about your setup... Another thing that will help a bunch is installing a Jarvine Riffle under the box where material drops down on the sluice, this will help hold back any material that might get by the classifier basket just a bit longer and break the clay up a bit more.... Plus it will help protect your matting from rocks and normal wear and tear

The Jarvine riffles are a great idea. We recently used a set last weekend. Seemed to help out a lot. Thank you Jeff ! I appreciate you

You’re videos are awesome I’m in sc close to nc border. How do you find places to prospect and able to bring your sluices to creeks? I’m a noob. Never prospected but very interested
