Tip for guys considering this dual motor bike, be mindful of what he says about adding a second battery. That's what I did.
I had a spare Rad Rover battery. Bought a balancer on Amazon ($45), mounted the battery cradle on a piece of black-painted plywood, mounted that on the rear bike rack, voilà I have almost double the battery power now.
You need that extra battery because of how we all ride these things, THROTTLE-ONLY BABY! (Side note: bike manufacturers and retailers realize this, so they are now coming out with "dual battery" bikes, or selling the bits you need to add a second battery to the bike they are selling. E.g. Ride1Up sells the balancer, wiring, mounting plate (cradle), etc. for its Revv 1 moped bike (that looks like a motorcycle). It is designed to be a throttle-only bike, as evident that peddling is via a one-speed chainring (obviously the pedals are there to keep LEOs off your back).
On this bike which has dual 1000 watt motors, it will eat that battery faster than Pac Man eats those dots.
Using my own experience of late, my Hanevear H100 is a dual 750 watt motor e-bike. But it has only one battery, which is larger than the typical battery. I made a 20 mile round-trip with two famous (or "notorious" IMO) San Francisco hills each way. Rode throttle-only the entire way. When I arrived about 1/2 mile from my house the battery was on one-bar life support. By the time I was at the top of the hill where I live, the battery was DOA at my basement front door, and I do mean totally dead.
With the second battery I installed I will now get around 40 miles throttle-only range.
Note: Ignore what e-bike sellers advertise about mileage/range. IMO those numbers are figuratively with a 40 mph wind pushing your back, PAS 3, and conservative use of the throttle. On a bone stock bike using throttle-only you are gonna get maybe 30 miles range, if you're lucky. But remember, we don't ride these bikes to where the battery is totally dead when you get home. (Unless you don't mind being wrong in your calculations 9 times out of 10.)
So if you don't ride your e-bike to where the battery is totally DOA at your house, lop off about 10 miles from that number because their advertised number was arrived at by riding the bike until the battery is totally dead.
Bonus Tip: If you buy a second battery on Amzn, get one that comes with a cradle that you can mount on the bike, or on a piece of wood or plastic like I did.
Critical Tip: You can mix amps, but NOT volts. What this means: if your bike has a 52 volt battery, the second battery too must be 52 volts. The amps on each battery does not matter. E.g., if your bike has a 48 volt battery, and you have a spare 52 volt battery, sorry, you cannot use the two on the same system.
Got A Link For That Battery and Balancer?
Thanks for this info
@@user-jr2vy2el6fIf you have questions when or if you do this, shoot me a comment in here and I'll get it.
I am trying to decide between the hanevaer h100 and the meelod m7 ,what would you suggest? Thanks
@@user-lk8hy7uo3p I use a number of factors to determine the overall quality of an e-bike. For example, the preciseness of the metal welds.
I was NOT impressed with the frame welding on the Meelod. Looked really sloppy.
Another factor, I have read that customers were dissatisfied with Meelod's customer service.
Based on this and other info I bought the Hanevear instead. I'm really happy with it. Of my five e-bikes I like it the best.
And you can't beat the price nowadays. I got mine for $1288, free delivery, and no sales tax.
The only time I ever go over 35mph is when I'm making a video to show off. Anything over 35 isn't practical - But it sure is fun..! I'm very interested in seeing this review (mostly just to see how much Alex has improved on his video filming /editing, etc. I feel like you've stepped up your game, brother.. Good job..! I'm sub'd with the Bell on so I should get a notification when it drops. Lookin' forward to to.
Thanks man! Always improving! Appreciate you as a viewer and commenter my friend.
Excellent review. Hit all the important points.
Thanks!
Another great bike for rv campground or similar. Great review. Thorough and honest.
Thanks!
Great Review! Meelod has insane prices for sure! I flats are not fun mostly with heavy bikes
Thanks my friend. They are very competitive indeed
Meelod is a good brand. I just rode my meelod max 97 miles from Minneapolis Minnesota to Cumberland Wisconsin. The only thing that bothered me was management on battery life every 40 miles or so, but keeping PA on the lowest I was able to travel pretty far on a low charge 20% or so. I did have to walk in the dead dark of Wisconsin about 3 miles left out of my 41 miles luckily when my battery died my taillight and headlight stayed active so I was able to ward off bears and such. Great bike I should have considered charge time so that’s on me.
Did you do a bike camping trip? This is something I want to do. I'm thinking of getting a small 800 watt inverter generator to recharge the battery and even just to sit for an hour for the battery to get enough charge to get those last few miles in would be worth it. The small generators weigh around 25lbs
Fast enough and features enough for the price definitely.
Price point is good!
I had no idea my bike had a walk feature until I was trying to turn it off in the dark with my gloves on. Then it took off on me and I see "walk" on the display. I still have no idea how I did it 🤷🏻♂️. I just built a ramp to get up and down my small staircase. It would come in handy getting it in and out the house. (Amyet G60) incase anyone was curious. It would be nice if these bikes came with all the info you need but they don't. At least give a QR code that brings you to that info. I shouldn't have to search the internet to find out how my bike works
Oh yeah for sure never new I needed the walk feature until now. Most of them have this, should be in the manual which I only read if necessary :D
There's virtually nothing in this manual, but with trial and error I figured it out. I just have to hold minus for 2-3 seconds
I would like to see you review the Aniokii V7 52V, or the A8 Pro Max 52V Dual Motor E-bikes. The company claims that they go between 42-45mph. If you can call in a favor and get your hands on one of those I would greatly appreciate it
I'll try!
Another good thing to use for flat tires is Tannus armor
Nice job...:)
thanks!
That is a great deal for $1100!
Very!
How many pedal assist levels are on this bike? The bike I have uses 5 but in pas 1 it goes about 6mph and when I'm trying to pedal in lowest gear I feel like I'm peddling the bike and getting no assist. Do you think I should tinker with the settings and move it up so there's more assist in pas 1? It would be nice to cruise along in pedal assist 1 without doing all the work and not feel like I'm going so slow that I'll fall over
There are five levels
You have to charge for 2 hours after the light turns green (I believe this is when the balancing of the cells is done), and will bring the battery to full charge..
I actually already did this for an earlier ride.
37 mph...on a bike like that.....fast
I guess a dual hub bike really is for people that have the hills and off road places to enjoy it's full potential.
Absolutely
Here in San Francisco these dual motor bikes are essential if one lives on any of the hills, especially at the top (like I do).
Another requirement for San Francisco riding, a second battery, because these dual motor bikes devour battery power, especially if one rides like 99.9% of us do, throttle-only, "flooring it" at every intersection. Even with two batteries, that kind of riding may get a "useful range" of about 40 miles.*
Dual battery also required if one wants to go on an extended ride such as across the Golden Gate Bridge and back.
Luckily, adding a second battery is quite easy, and made less expensive with the debuting of batteries w/ cradle and cable in the $300 to $400 range.
Bonus Tip: Or one can simply purchase, e.g., a Meelod dual-motor, dual-battery bike for $1600!
*Like our host says, the smart move is to not always ride in dual motor mode. Certainly on the flatlands one can get along just fine in PAS 3 and single motor mode.
Awesome job! Another nice Meelod bike! I better invest in some extra flat-out as well lol.
You and me both! Thanks!
I have the m7 meelod and speeds 1 thru 5 go the same speed, Is there an adjustment to fix that?
Not sure man. maybe something in the settings. Check my settings from the video and see if that helps? The dual motor pedal assist is still pretty strong.
Yes Sir
gotcha. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the feedback!
Still happy I got the motor goat V3. I thought this video was going to make me doubt my decision lol
Goat is the goat
Motor goat is better. But that said, in about 6 months better bikes will be out. It's a never ending game.
I suspect all these bike makers (more like "assemblers") are getting the frame and other components from the same parts houses. I say this because this bike in just about all the main bits looks the same as my Hanevear H100, including the battery, frame, etc.
Of my five e-bikes I like the Hanevear the most, because it is an AWD. IMO once one has experienced the performance of an AWD (aka "dual motors"), in particular the speed and torque, one will never go back to a single motor. I know I won't.
From my surreal memory banks: I literally was in the basement just now filling my tires with flat out. After that I came inside the house and watched this video to see you get a flat tire and mention Flat Out.
Yeah a lot of companies share manufactures for parts.
How do I get the $130 discount using your link? It’s the same price whether I use your link or not. Thanks. Great review.
using the link in the description will give you the biggest discount. Check the price in the cart. The discount might not be 130 anymore though :(
…adjustable wheel size in the settings? Will you elaborate on that?
This is how you can make the speedometer more or less accurate
You mean the zoom hydraulic brakes....My friend bought the same pair.
Its crazie i used those cst scouts e moped tires for over 7 months and never caught a flat on them and still have alot of tread. But yea a nail like that will do that to any tires
I really like those tires
I love the tires also, I have the meelod dk300 max. And by the way I always enjoy your videos! I got a question. Do you think doing a shunt mod would make a noticeable difference ? It would be great if you made a video showing the difference.
@@Vicki-gz3vt thanks! I've thought about it, and in the dk300max a shunt mod would make a difference in acceleration and torque, but I don't know if the controller could handle the heat since its a dual motor controller you know? I think the DK300max is perfect the way it is, just upgrade the seat haha. Thanks again for the friendly comment.
I go to bed early...im old...and i get up early 4:30 or so...........u will be there one day......
Bought one for off road.
How much does it weigh with the battery?
hmmmm not sure. I felt like it was around 80 pounds.
Actually, you can stop shorter without locking the brakes locking the brakes increases your stopping distance. I don’t know who taught you that but that is why cars have antilock brakes.
Anyone looking for greater range then look at the Romatlink Dolphin. 30 amp battery. People report 60 miles of REAL mileage with pedal.
To get this beast to pull away fast do full throttle and pedal hard!
for sure!
Is there no ebike that comes standard with tubeless tires?😅
There's gotta be
@@maximumchargeEV ive yet to find one, guess gotta throw on a QS 205 scooter motor myself
Giant skeleton...cool
Imagine if one of the hub motors of this dual motor e bike incorporated a regeneration mode, functioning akin to an alternator, to help recharge or top up the battery. It could significantly enhance the e-bike's efficiency and range, making it even more innovative...🤔
regen doesn't help your range all that much BUT I would like it for helping with braking.
They dont sell this bike anymore?
Says it's unavailable, not sure when they will bring it back or if they even will
Is possible. To send The bike too Europe?
see if amazon will ship it.
all curbs shuld have a transitiun slope
They have a lot of nice trails they won't let that bike on... so be ware you'll be stuck riding in traffic.
Bike comes locked in at class 3
It's kinda sad, so much potential with two motors. Rotors are too small. It goes 35 on a full charge. So once you wear the battery down just a bit, it will be like every other folding ebike. Probably worse because with two motors, that battery won't last long at all. Can't argue with the price tho.
would be epic with a second battery.
it bad ,as it ,,.....good cool ,,,.......
I dont get it
Do me a favor, next time you're over at ElecLat tell her I bought a bike from you.
haha will do! Let me know how you like this bike.
@maximumchargeEV I bought it strictly for mountain biking and trail riding. I've already got a folding scrambler I can stick in the back of my truck and go to the beach, a long range (100-120m) suburban for longer rides and I just changed my "unsafe at any speed" Mooncool trike into a much more stable recumbant "Easy Rider" chopper...just for the hell of it. I can do turns at 15mph without tipping.
I've got too much time on my hands.
e-byx shuld have less sprocet geerz
y?
this bike disappeared don't see it anywhere
yeah seems like they have stopped selling it.
All the good ones like this is gone i cant find anything good
$999 as of 03/28/2024.
thats INSANE
I think that's $999 plus 200 shipping
$899.00 on 5/3 because of $100.00 discount I received using your link. There was a $200.00 delivery charge and $78 in taxes. But with some reward points on my credit card I got it for $1097 total which is a steal.
@@Hoosierbeau yeah they unfortunately changed the discount but still a good price!
The $100 discount code I was given/used on Amazon was 10AAP5SP. If it doesn't work, you also might contact Meelod directly like I did. I told them I was considering their ebike and the Hanevear 100 which is also dual motor/ AWD. When I mentioned that Hanevear didn't charge a delivery charge, they wrote back and offered me a $50 discount on delivery. When I tried to apply both discounts, Amazon would only accept one so I took the $100 discount and still got a great deal. If Meelod isn't offering the $100 discount or the above code doesn't work anymore. Write to Meelod and tell them what did. At the very least you may get a $50 discount on delivery or maybe more. Every little bit helps.
why does your voice keeps going up at the end of sentences?
not sure, maybe I need speech therapy.
@@maximumchargeEV yea, it sounds girly.
@@furiofrazole1543 i'll start posting thirst traps soon.
Not going over 35 mph. No need to even test it. Done! The new benchmark is 40 mph.
It goes 33, but man for the price and power, that's pretty good. Also remember a lot of fast bikes are crushed during hill climbs, this one crushes hills.
@@maximumchargeEVhe's probably mainly thinking of motor goat and wired freedom etal
@jloesq I like the folder part and power. You can take it somewhere to get the use out of it. Only thing I can think of that might be as good for traveling would be an amp rides or Fabulous x2 folder
Yeah, like the himiway c5 at 2,299 it should at least hit 35mph but only can squeeze a meezely 26mph, anything I hate them twist shift on ebikes to be they take up way too much room on the handle bars
@@maximumchargeEVyes price is great and dual motor for those of us pulling dog trailers or kids. It's a hell yea
Music ruins the video
sorry
Flat....ugh.....very frustrating
So 35 mph is only downhill? Lol. I don’t see it breaking 28-29 miles? That seems weak for a boasting duel 1000w motors. You can get that on a single motor bike. Not seeing anything really spectacular for being a duel motor bike?
did you watch the video? I did a top speed test on flat ground, I think it was 32-33mph, somewhere around there.
@@maximumchargeEV
I missed it lol. Yes saw up to 32. Like your reviews very thorough. Thanks!
@@Greatgadgetsgear thank-you!
Thumb throttle? I'll pass.
Balogna. Straight promo bs.
What specific parts of the video makes you think that?
Getting a flat tire in the middle of a review is a great promo by the way. You think he'd show that if this was a promo? Just what I want to see in an advertisement 😅
@@rickymahoney6664 Meelod may or may not have liked or disliked that I left that in the review but I wanted to keep it real with you guys. A painful lesson to keep some tire sealant at least in the back tire.
@maximumchargeEV I want to see what happens, good or bad. That way, I can be prepared for what problems I might run into. I dont think the company would be upset. It wasn't anything negative about the bike. Just a negative downfall of riding a bike
Looking to buy this..but coupon code does not work on amazon..or supplied link?? $1269 at checkout..
new link should be working. Check the price in cart.
Nobody wants a pogo stick e-bike when's the first little bump in the road goes weary in that stick snaps they'll understand
What are you trying to say? I don't understand.
I would guess he's talking about the long, narrow handlebar stem that all these foldable bikes have 🤷🏻♂️
Hi please get rid of your very annoying background music. I skipped your channel solely because of that terrible background noise.
Is it the music during the "specs and components" part of the video?
Seat too high for 5footer 😂😂….🥲🥲🥲
