Viewers! It's that time of year again, Hellmouth, AKA the best time of year. We've got a fun line up this time around, of course starting with my look at Bloodlust. Classic fans of the channel may remember Grant did a "story you never knew" on bloodlust back in the day, but like little Mikey from the Goonies, it's my time, my time down here to talk about one of my favourite films. If you enjoy, I hope you check out last week's video on cross game. RUclips kinda killed it super dead, but it's a video we all put a lot into. This time we were joined by Nies to get this out to you on time (video credits in description) and as you can see we took on a sponsor. right now money's tight so we have to do that in order to pay editors and maintain rent etc. If you'd like to help us out, i recommend checking out the patreon! We'll be watching bloodlust tonight with all our patrons!
Oh! Once again this channel focuses on one of my absolute favourite anime and novel! ❤️ I feel so in love with Vampire Hunter D that I bought 12 of the novels, watched both movies and bought the manga. It helped that Yoshitaka Amano was the illustrator for the novel covers. 🥰 Fantastic works! Thank you for this amazing video! 🤩 There’s so much research behind it. I love it!! 👍❤️

Got to see this movie in Japan back in the day. I could barely understand Japanese but I wanted to go anyway. The movie starts up and.... Japanese subtitles. It's 100% in English. I let out a "YES!" like the gaijin I am and then quickly ducked in shame and watched the rest of the movie. Years later I would get to read the translated books and man, it was a different tone when it came to the Markus Brothers, let me tell you.

I watched Bloodlust and then searched for it to show a friend and stumbled upon the original thinking it was the same one I saw before. Needless to say me hyping it didn't help the situation but my friend thought I was a psycho talking about a vampire slayer movie with amazing animation and singing it's praise to end up showing them the original😅.
In the English dub of the original OVA, Mika also uses the term 'dunpeal". Always hit me as weird since as you said the term dhampir is also present in the dub, likely just a function of it being missed in the proofreading.

14:20 I think a good reason they chose demon death chase is because the 90's were absolutely flooded with vampire films, but Bram Stoker's Dracula was still the most influential at the time. The similarities between Vlad visiting Mina and Meier taking Charlotte are most likely on purpose (a lone carriage, the water freezing, flowers wilting, etc) so even in Japan the transition of vampires from monsters to romantic outcasts was still felt. I don't know if western audiences were taken into consideration during the film's creation but it also helps familiarize them with the setting by seeing something they already have a good grasp of.
I love that you utilized music from the Castlevania series for these Vampire Hunter D reviews/retrospectives! Without Vampire Hunter D, Castlevania wouldn't exist as we know it.

Bloodlust was my real introduction to truly adult anime back in ‘00, after having already been a fan of shows like Ronin, Tenchi and Gundam Wing being aired on Toonami prior. Later got hooked on shows like Outlaw Star, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop just before being introduced to the one and only Akira. There are few things I’m incredibly nostalgic about and proud to say “I was there for it”, being the rise of Anime in the West, the great video game bit wars, and the revolution of the internet (my Angelfire fan page for Doom is still up and running after 25 years!)
My dad got this movie a long time ago and we still to this day have it on DVD. I remember watching it when I was young and man was I scared but now that I’m older it’s a classic. My sister adores the soundtrack. I also have to say that the movie has a weird sound level. When the characters talked it was so quiet but when it came to the action scenes it was so loud. The remote was on hand during those times 😂.
Obviously I don't expect you to cover everything in these videos but I was surprised when you did you cover my favorite scene from this movie, when D buys a horse. There are so many small touches in this scene that communicates so much.
What's wild to me is there's around 37+ Vampire Hunter D books and this movie and it's predecessor are the only 2 anime adaptations of this still ongoing series.

Finally the things I need in life
Bloodlust was my real introduction to truly adult anime back in ‘00, after having already been a fan of shows like Ronin, Tenchi and Gundam Wing being aired on Toonami prior.
How "Vampire Hunter D" hasn't been made into an animated series, yet, blows my mind. If there's something I want to watch at 1 A.M., it's that.
Easily the best vampire anime. Actually one of my favorite animes ever.
Obviously I don't expect you to cover everything in these videos but I was surprised when you did you cover my favorite scene from this movie, when D buys a horse. There are so many small touches in this scene that communicates so much.
I freaking love this movie. I own the DVD and have shown it to so many people.
Absolutely legendary! I always appreciate your content. I not had pursued this movie until I watched this and am so glad this is here.😘
In my opinion, this is probably the most beautiful looking anime ever made.
What's wild to me is there's around 37+ Vampire Hunter D books and this movie and it's predecessor are the only 2 anime adaptations of this still ongoing series.
I still need to watch this anime. Edit: It was amazing.
