I personally think the first volume of the Novel did an incredibly well job setting up the rich universe of VHD! It explains the entire history of how nearly every element of the world came about (why vampires rule the world, why they have renaissance aesthetic, why there are so many monsters, the different technologies, etc.) while also introducing many mysteries that are still unexplained. It also sets up what an incredibly mysterious character D is. It is SUCH an excellent informative set up for a volume 1 that I tell people if you don’t like it by the end to not even bother with the rest. With that said, I highly recommend the novels everyone! It is so mind blowingly better than the films and manga!!
I'll never forget that magical summer night of 93' when I 1st saw Vampire Hunter D. It was a Wednsday on Sci-Fi channel near 9pm! Since then, I would forever be a fan of the Author, of Amano and of coarse.... D! Sadly for us older fans, it just took another long 15 years to get his novels and more merch!
Huh...for me it was the same year...it was on TBS at like 1:00 in the morning ...first anime I ever watched I was hooked and have been watching anime religiously ever since
@@LowellLucasJr. yes it was! They would show uncut movies late at night...when tbs became part of regular cable and not just a super station they would do that...a few years later they started editing the movies with nudity and profanity...
My first time seeing VHD was also a sci-fi showing... they had Robot Carnival, Lensman, then Vampire Hunter D for the late-night showing... definitely kckstarted my interest in anime!
My chance introduction to Vampire Hunter D was through AMVs back when RUclips was going through its anime music video phase, and I've been hooked ever since.
I still remember that night in the late 80s when one of my close friends invited me over to eat mushrooms and watch vampire hunter d, mermaids forest, and legend of the demon womb. It was quite the bizarre trip lol
I remember being a kid and being sad that there wasn't a Manga adaptations of D when I was looking at B&N and even sadder that the collection of the novels weren't actually in order. I'm going to have to actually buy those now. Also, got the new graphic novels coming. Whooooo!
You know, the narrator of this video goes on about how the animation was "low quality" in Vampire Hunter D but, in America at the time D was released animation fans still trudging through cheaply produced cartoons for children, with only Batman:TAS and The Simpsons available for adult animation enthusiasts. Seeing "D" with its amazing designs and camera angles, very few repeated frames, not to mention early digital ink and paint even put the Disney Renaissance through the wringer in terms of comparable animation quality.
This was one of my first anime. Coincidentally, I also watched it on the sci fi channel😂 This movie along with Demon City Shinjuku kind of... formed my obsession with the genre. So it was crazy to hear that both are based on books from the same guy. I'm gonna HAVE to read the D series; I had no idea it was so lengthy (or so popular for that matter). Oh and seeing that figurine that's absolutely out of my price range almost made me cry from wanting it so bad:(
Funny enough, VPD was the second anime I ever saw as a child (i was like 9, maybe 10) cuz my parents had no idea what they were buying for me, just assumed it was another cartoon. What surprised me is that they watched it with me and had no problems about it, instead following it up with, "well... how about some Clive Barker movies now?" I can't gloat about many moments from my childhood, but I'm quite happy with this one. Lol
I have been trying to find something good to watch for an hour and then BOOM ... a new Bonsai Pop video to feast on; and a Vampire Hunter D video no less!! 👏👏👏
My god this video inspired the hell out of me. As an inspiring artist and creator I'm absolutely amazed by knowing better about Kikuchi's childhood and story and the narrative of your video just made me reflective about my personal tastes and all the conclusions related to if something should be a hit right out of batch and its creating time frame! Ty very much, good content.
I actually rewatched Vampire Hunter D just yesterday before coming across this. I'll always remember my first time seeing it as it was the first Anime I ever saw. I saw it on HBO in the early 90s at a friend's house and the impact it had on me is immeasurable. This, Fist of the North Star and Akira were my first 3 (in that order). D in the two movies is one of the most perfect characters. I've only recently started reading the novels (on book 4 currently) and I love that the movies (and what I've read of the books so far) is that they just drop you in them like the old Weird Tales Pulp stories from the 20s and 30s. I could very easily see Vampire Hunter D in an old Pulp alongside something like Robert E Howard's Solomon Kane or Conan The Barbarian or even the works of H.P. Lovecraft. It has that same vibe. Because of that it's more about the story than D himself. I love how 4 decades later I still don't know anything definitive about him.
What wild timing. Just yesterday my mind randomly leapt to thinking about the opening scene of D so I went back and watched the first five minutes. It left me prepping to have a rewatch this weekend. Amazing to see this drop as a nice primer! I’ve loved the movie since the early 90’s along with Wicked City, DevilMan, Urutsukidoji. Something about the 80’s early 90’s aesthetic that I find so unique and interesting.
We are covering Vampire Hunter D on my podcast The Vampire Movie Minute Podcast we break a vamp film down five mins at a time. We should have you on this week to talk about the finale ten mins
I'm a big fan of Hideyuki Kikuchi's VHD novels! I'm on volume 28, my goal is to catch up to his current books and read his new Greylancer books. It's been really, REALLY hard to find the books in their paperback format, so I've been reading them via the ebooks since volume 17 and slowly collecting the individual books as I can find them. Yoshitaka and Hideyuki are the PERFECT match as far as artist and author goes - the way Yoshitaka draws D is stunning. They're my favorite artist and author for sure. Thanks so much for the video, I hope more people can find out about D! :)
Sci -Fi Channel, which will always have a special place in my heart as I regard it as the only present I got on my 10th birthday, was 100% where I first watched Vampire Hunter D. Somewhere in my childhood home, the VHS copy I made, that also includes the Akira showing with Project A-Ko VS, still exists.
I have always held that Vampire Hunter D was the anime that made made me interested in the medium. I vividly remember hanging at a friends place and his older brother having this on, on VHS in the basement....and it blew my mind. I didn't know that cartoons could be like that...and now in my 30's, I am still obsessed.
I caught this randomly on Sci-Fi channel during summer of 1993 when I was turning 13. It BLEW MY MIND!!! I already sort of new about Anime, but this made me a HUGE fan! I immediately rented or acquired every Streamlight Pictures release (who had the license for “V. H. D” and other films like the extremely under-rated hidden gem of “Golgo 13: The Professional”, the excellent “Akira”, “Wicked City”, and another personal favorite, “Fist of the North Star”!). And I was already a fan of Yoshitaka Amano from what I had seen of his “FF” art at that point. Still one of my favorite films, forget just in Anime or animation, of all time. The sequel, “VHD: Bloodlust”, is also very well done. Surprised we haven’t had more “VHD” films or series honestly.
God the new transfer is so CLEAN. No, really. If you saw the old version, and not this new printing... do yourself a favor and find a copy. It's so clear.
I loved this series along with many others over the years. My anime introduction came from none other than Leiji Matsumoto in the form of Galaxy Express 999. As a young child I had grown up with shows like Shogun Warriors but anime just hit differently for me. In 1993 as a young airman I had the pleasure of being stationed at Yokota AB and I was like a kid in a candy store. All the different manga and anime were literally everywhere. I was already familiar with Vampire Hunter D and enjoyed it immensely and searched almost voraciously for more. Iria and the Zieram series and Baoh were some of the other gems but I always came back to Captain Harlock and Vampire Hunter D. My teenage stepson's have now experienced the movies and enjoy them as much as I. It truly was a great experience and a great time!!
When I was in high school, every Sunday afternoon, Japan’s NHK news program This Week In Japan had a program about anime and how this medium gained in popularity in Japan. I was surprised to learn that there was anime for adults as well as for kids and families. It was eye opening and I was watching this program every Sunday afternoon when we got home from church. Fast forward to a few years in the 80’s. AKIRA comes to America and it caused quite a stir with the manga and then the anime. Fast forward to the early 90’s. Comic books were becoming more popular with their character driven plots and surprise endings. Television shows like The Flash was on Saturday nights, only to get canceled just when the writing was getting better. It was in 1991 when I purchased my first anime vhs tape . It was Arcadia Of My Youth(Waga Seishun No Arcadia). It was English subbed, but for me it was no problem reading the subtitles. It was the first time I learned how the Japanese used profanity. Other than that, it introduced me to the character of Captain Harlock. In 1995, I saw Vampire Hunter D on TNT’s late show. I also saw the classic Robot Carnival on that network, as well. When they were available on vhs, I had to get Vampire Hunter D. Second came Akira. Third came Wicked City. Followed by The Professional:Golgo 13 and 8-Man After. Vampire Hunter D’s world is no place I want to live in. When the sun goes down, the terror comes out in search of victims. D, I had once read was in reality, a 17 year old kid, who had lived for centuries as a Danpeil or Danpere , hunting vampires and other demons. Left Hand was the voice of his conscience, although he thinks D is contradicting himself and his nature. D made peace with who and what he is and walks a lonely road. When Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust came out, it looked fantastic and iconic. The closest thing to a live action adaptation was the film Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman, who was dressed as D but with more weaponry.
The first anime I ever watched as a kid were Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D and Akira in that order. Talk about a rude awakening to what is possible in animation
I also first saw Vampire Hunter D when it aired late at night on the Sci-fi channel in the 90's and I will never forget how it changed me. I was already watching a little anime, but it was basically just kid's stuff. I saw this movie and it blew my mind. I was in love with how creative, mature and graphic it was. It felt like there was so much thought put into the world and the setting. The writers didn't care to really explain things to the audience but I didn't care. I put together enough from the visual clues. This was an amazing blend of sci-fi, horror, dark fantasy. It's something that I haven't stopped looking for since my initial introduction but it's a difficult mix to find and most don't pull it off as well as VHD. Even though the 1985 movie may have had a low budget and a pretty subpar English dub, it still holds a special place in my heart.
If a person knows anything about anime Vampire Hunter D is one of the best animes that was ever created everything hand-drawn not what you see now everything is shiny and it looks good don't get me wrong but everything back then was hand drawn the explosions not these funky looking ass horses that you see now in anime real good anime some of the best you can possibly see
A 2 minute clip of bloodlust made me really start looking for anime at my movie gallery when I was a kid and eventually led me to my #1 Cowboy bebop. This was great to watch. What a blast from the past
Great video man! Vampire Hunter D 1985 was my introduction to anime nearly 30 years ago and indeed I saw it on Cartoon Network's "Night of the Vampire Robots" special feature. You remark on the lower quality of this film a lot, which is fair to some degree, but despite its flaws it has been firmly in my top 10 anime of all time, alongside Akira, Fist of the North Star, and Golgo 13: The Professional (which I appreciated hearing a track of the OST in this video, haha) To me that whole late 80s bubble of gritty, dark, now vintage anime OVAs and films is unsurpassable and it still inspires to this day. And yeah, that Blu Ray of VHD 1985 is really incredible; it was the first Blu Ray I ever bought (figured it might as well be, since VHD 1985 was the first anime I ever saw) and I was floored by the detail, details which I had been missing on all my VHS and DVD versions of the film throughout the years. Although, I do wish they could have kept the original dub in as well because there were some audio features in it that I really loved. Anyways, thanks for making a video about one of my favorite classic anime films!
Really anime back days had so much love from the makers. You ca see it and feel it from art to sfx to voice acting. Bonsai hope you'll keep making content like this. Vampire hunter D is legendary!
I think it would be kinda cool to cover some of the other mid 90's SciFi (as it was spelled back then) channel anime. Armitage III, Robot Carnival, Gall Force, Project A-Ko....
My favorite anime of all time. I first saw Vampire hunter D in the 90s when I was a teen, now I'm 41yrs old and still have this movie in my head all the time.
Im so mad, i wished i woulda got here sooner. VHD Is my favorite anime movie of all time , i cried at the reveal of that statue.... Absolutely stunning. Thank you for having the same love as me for this amazing series.
Vampire Hunter D, Record of Lodoss War, and Robot Carnival on the Sci-Fi channehl were the first anime (japanimation as it was referred to back then) I was exposed to as a child in the 90s. The nostalgia for these properties HURTS in the best way, it's unreal.
I saw Vampire hunter D by accident...It was in the 90's and on a Saturday during daylight savings time...since we skipped a head an hour, I was able to catch Vampire Hunter D @3am. From then on, I would try to catch that Anime Block...I think it was Vampire Hunter D, Express 999, and Project A-ko...amungst others...i think i saw Armatige 3 on there.
I've watched this channel a few times over the past few years but realized I never subscribed. Well... You showcased Vampire Hunter D, one of my long time favourites so you certainly earned a subscriber. Cheers!
Hey, the time you're looking for might be the Sci-Fi Channel's Global Showcase in 1993. I think it was October. The triple feature also included Lensman and Robot Carnival. That was the year I first got into anime at 13 years old.
With all due respect, I WAS there.. & it Vampire Hunter D was & is (IMO) definitely COOOOL lol.. Bonsai Pop rules tho.. keep doing your thing.. MUCH LOVE!
Unpopular opinion: I like the 1985 80's arthouse anime release *better* than 2000's sequel. Bloodlust looked superior animation-wise, but they must've tried really hard to suck more than the much reviled original '85 dialogue, because holy shit is the dialogue awful. I'll take '85 any day of the week, they don't make shit as weird as this and Angel's Egg (another Amano design). Up the original!
My cousin had this on VHS back in 1994 and I snuck into his room and watched it. I learned how to be a Man from D...that was one of the most realest talks I've ever heard.

The first time I saw D I fell in love with how cool he was. Wow that statue was beautiful. I saw it on VHS in '87,my 1st year in highschool. To this day I still have my DVD's of Wicked City, Demon City S,and both D's.
Vampire Hunter D was the first anime I ever saw in full and I can still remember it was one Saturday morning circa 1993 when the SciFi channel had "Saturday Anime" every Saturday morning. I remember that after watching it that morning I forced my dad to take me to Blockbuster than afternoon where I rented it and watched in 10+ times that weekend. It's one of my three absolute favorites along with Ninja Sceoll and 1997 Berserk and it's because those in those three movies/series there is absolutely ZERO cutesy anime tropes, i.e. no little girls with big eyes giggling...they're 100% serious the entire time with either zero or very little [bad] comedic relief. The list of anime series/ova that are like that are exceedingly small and if anybody can Recommend one, aid greatly appreciate it.
I didn't even know this was a series - Thank you so much for enlightening me, I'll have to check it out :D In my defence, I've only watched the (apparently) second movie which if I remember correctly didn't have the 'Bloodlust' in the title in my country and was just called 'Vampire Hunter D'. I remember watching the movie with my younger sister on VHS in the early 2000's with the English dub and Danish subtitles (I live in Denmark in Europe and here it's very common to watch things with subtitles - especially with movies like these) and enjoying it quite a lot (^-^) - my sister and I had a laugh at the end - and some of the tension at a very dramatic/emotional stabbing scene was ruined a little bit - because SPOILER (I guess) the translator apparently made a brain fart and mistranslated the sentence "Why did you miss my heart?" (or something along those lines) from what was supposed to be 'miss' as in "to not hit" into 'miss' as in "to long for/I miss you, darling, come back safe (I didn't feel like the other words my dictionary was suggesting for the translation were accurate enough so the last one was an example of the vibe)". I really hope I was able to get my point across at the end with English not being my native language. ^^'' Also Amano's art is fantastic - his and the works of Leiji Matsumoto really resonated with me as a kid and still do as an adult :) I really enjoy your content and I've been introduced to so many new series thanks to your videos - I will be forever grateful for introducing me to Mononoke ;D Keep up the good work (^-^)
I distinctly remember tracking it down on Crunchyroll, but the two small towns I grew up in BOTH had movie galleries despite being several hours away from each other.
I had a similar relationship with this movie, my older brothers girlfriend taped it off of the poorly titled "Saturday Japanime" run (with Guyver Bio Booster on the same tape) on Cartoon Network and was obsessed, still am to this day, wish I could find a blu-ray of the original with the original English dub, but I always takes this over Bloodlust! Thanks for posting!
first time I saw Vampire hunter D 1985 was from a Twilight zone magazine article in 1986 , I was enthralled by the article. I was looking to watch the movie ever since, then in 1989 I manage to get hold of a non translated copy of the movie via bootleg betamax from a Sham Shui po anime store which was a strange one as it was inside a office that was hard to find. I was not impressed and actually disappointed the first time I saw it. Then in 2000 I bought the Urban vision DVD and that really impressed me. Over the years it grew on me. Whlie Vampire Hunter D bloodlust blows the first movie away, the first movie still has its charms.
I vividly remember watching Vampire Hunter D when my friend rented back in 1994. It took just this movie to get me hooked on anime. From there I remember eating up all those Streamline Pictures movies. Haven't watched much anime for a while, but I still come back to Vampie Hunter D occasionally.
Vampire hunter d was my first anime. I caught it on scifi as well during their "japanimation" block late at night when I was about 11. I'm about 40 now and I still love it. Yes it was definitely a "before it was cool" moment. Every one Ive known who caught this little flick around the same time says the same thing. "vampire hunter d was the point where I dove headfirst into anime" which was significantly harder back then in the pre internet days. We felt like we were uncovering a whole new world of storytelling and animation. It would only be much later did I learn that a little show I watched in the late 80s and early 90s called robotech was a cut up of an anime macross I believe). So technically that Saturday morning butchering was my first anime
I had this on VHS when I was a Kid; I absolutely loved this movie! I paid top dollar for My anime back then... we're talking 25-40 dollars in the mid to late 90's. I didn't have many but I had some of the best movies on VHS... Akira, Ninja Scroll, Wicked City. Perfect Blue to name a few. They were all lost when I was in the military and my Grandma sold her house. Since then I have replaced them with DVD & blu-ray! I just wish I had found this Chanel a week ago... because I definitely tried to get that D statue... I have never bought a statue like that, and I figured for my first I might as well go big and get something amazing & autographed! To bad they, sold out in 26 hours. I guess I'll just have to track down something more affordable and available... maybe I can find something from Berserk, for my first figurine🤔 Anyways, awesome video! I am now subscribed and belled up!
Vampire Hunter D has a special place in my heart, a friend of mine had the movie on his laptop and we'd watch it almost everyday just to deal with the stress of the day. One of my favorite movies.
I still do not understand why we have not had a vampire hunter d metroidvania, you would think with the popularity of castlevania and with Konami refusing to do anything it would have been considered. I still think bloodlust is one of the best animations I have ever seen, not to mention it was the closest thing to a castlevania symthony of the night anime when I was younger and I still kind of wish we had a castlevania movie with this art. There is somthing about 80s 90s anime that just has somthing that modern anime does not have and I really miss it.
I remember first time I saw Vampire hunter D. My mom is a huge Star Trek fan and we liked going to conventions. I believe this one was in Wilkes-Barre PA, maybe 91 or 92. This guy had set up a booth selling bootleg VHS anime video and it was playing on a TV he had setup. Blew my 10 year old mind. I was hooked
I Also mixed "Ninja Scroll" for Urban Vision.. Animae dubbing is a small world...Wow I had no idea they remastered and re dubbed Original 'D'!! great reviews thanx. Carl was The Godfather of Animae dubbing, he was a part of bringing "Akira" to the west, witch started it all in my opinion. He also created Robo Tech of course. He called me about working on an anniversary version of Robo Tech when he suddenly passed away. I did not do that version.. that was 14 years ago. Funny I'm looking up old stuff I've done. Lilly C.A.T. Golgo 13, Crying Freeman, Space Adventure Cobra, Dirty Pair... Doomed Megalopolis, 3 by3 Eyes, all done on tape. no protools or editing. I miss Carl he was a good dude!
These videos always make me wanna rewatch anime I’ve seen many times. And yes I liked anime way before it was cool. This was actually the first anime I’ve seen. I saw it in 1988 for the first time
Whenever I see Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the Northstar the movie, or Robot Carnival, it takes me back to a great time to be alive. I first saw it in the mid 90s, an era when Smashing Pumpkins, STP, Alanis Morisette etc ruled the radio waves. An era before high speed internet and social media took over the world. I'm grateful that I grew up in the era that I did bc it allowed me to experience life before technology became so life encompassing, but I was also able to grow up with that technology so that I am still highly efficient with it's use.
Vampire Hunter D and it's Sequel are so special to me I showed it to a bunch of my friends and while since the first one is so silly by modern anime standards it's so great that I got to show them how amazing it is

It is SUCH an excellent informative set up for a volume 1 that I tell people if you don’t like it by the end to not even bother with the rest.
With that said, I highly recommend the novels everyone! It is so mind blowingly better than the films and manga!!
This is the 5th time this week I've seen someone talk about. Clearly this is a sign I need to watch it all again. Maybe even read it
Can’t think of a better way to start my birthday than a new Bonsai Pop video on Vampire Hunter D, thank you 🙌🏼
Happy birthday nerd. Hope it's a good one.
Happy Birthday 🍰🥳🎂
Happy birthday all the best, bro!!!
Happy birthday 🎊
happy birthday! Mine was also the 2th! lol
Huh...for me it was the same year...it was on TBS at like 1:00 in the morning ...first anime I ever watched I was hooked and have been watching anime religiously ever since
@@pacingone yep it was also part of that monster marathon! They'd show it super late! Wasn't it uncut as well?
@@LowellLucasJr. yes it was! They would show uncut movies late at night...when tbs became part of regular cable and not just a super station they would do that...a few years later they started editing the movies with nudity and profanity...
My first time seeing VHD was also a sci-fi showing... they had Robot Carnival, Lensman, then Vampire Hunter D for the late-night showing... definitely kckstarted my interest in anime!
@@DerekKGray those were definitely faves of mine as well! Still love Robot Carnival passionately! Especially Starlight Angel! ❤ 🌟
Whooooo!
Buy em!! I’ve got the first 22 novels and go back and re-read them once a year
The first time I saw VHD it blew my mind. The animation was awesome and the story was so adult and complex. It was a revelation
@@jojojoma3026 The narrator doesn't fully appreciate Vampire Hunter D 1985. It's obvious.
Oh and seeing that figurine that's absolutely out of my price range almost made me cry from wanting it so bad:(
Wicked City as well. And enter the giveaway. I did. Dunno where the hell I'd put it if I wont, but still.
how can a channel of two guys who like anime consistently produce such absolute BANGER videos
Man my older step bro showed me this back in 02 or 03. Been in love with story world since then.
Funny enough, VPD was the second anime I ever saw as a child (i was like 9, maybe 10) cuz my parents had no idea what they were buying for me, just assumed it was another cartoon. What surprised me is that they watched it with me and had no problems about it, instead following it up with, "well... how about some Clive Barker movies now?"
I can't gloat about many moments from my childhood, but I'm quite happy with this one.

So when I was a kid (early 90’s) the USA network showed this uncut on Easter Sunday. It blew my mind. Still one of my favorite anime movies ever.
Love your take in the series. Your edited skills and dialogue are superb bro.

Man, I have to say I really like how your videos have so much passion in to each subject you talk about in-depth. Nice work.
Vampire hunter D was the most formative story in my life, my own style, and demeanor had always been modeled after D. From 3rd grade to 29 non stop
Y’all’s content is so consistently great. I saw the original D the exact same way during Ani-midnight or whatever on sci fi and I loved your coverage.
The image you used for Movie Gallery's insides is the setup for Family Video. A movie rental place I lived beside in my early 20s. It was awesome.
Great job. I bought the Blu-ray of Vampire Hunter D when the lockdown was going on.
Vampire Hunter D was my first anime. Vampire Hunter D is awesome and still stands to this day.
What are the songs? I loved the whole playlist used!
Try watching Overfiend back then.
@@JnEricsonx I did, legend of the overfiend was fucked up. I was just listing the first three I was exposed to
Using music from the TurboGrafx 16 CD version of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys made this video even better 💙
I saw this movie around the time that Symphony of the Night came out. It was a perfect storm for me.
Indeed, they compliment one another.
Really anime back days had so much love from the makers. You ca see it and feel it from art to sfx to voice acting.
Bonsai hope you'll keep making content like this.
Vampire hunter D is legendary!
I don't usually geek out too much over figurines but that thing is freaking awesome. amazing detail.
Every so often your intros make me think we're the same person and for that I will always love you
I think it would be kinda cool to cover some of the other mid 90's SciFi (as it was spelled back then) channel anime.
These videos are like modern day Saturday morning cartoons :0
Before Castlevania too. I really think this series had a huge effect on Castlevania
Bruh, as a non goth kid that still has the original his Vampire hunter D VHS from his uncle. Thank you so much for this!
I remember catching this on late night TBS around 92.....thanks for your content.
I've watched this channel a few times over the past few years but realized I never subscribed. Well... You showcased Vampire Hunter D, one of my long time favourites so you certainly earned a subscriber. Cheers!
Now I want a bonsai pop video on speed racer
Hey, the time you're looking for might be the Sci-Fi Channel's Global Showcase in 1993. I think it was October. The triple feature also included Lensman and Robot Carnival.
That was the year I first got into anime at 13 years old.
With all due respect, I WAS there.. & it Vampire Hunter D was & is (IMO) definitely COOOOL lol.. Bonsai Pop rules tho.. keep doing your thing.. MUCH LOVE!
I appreciate this video thanks. Seeing this movie popping up 1 random night in the 90s had me hooked
Thank you so much for this! this has always been 1 of my favourites and my first step into anime - I have had people assure me it doesn't exist!
What a nostalgia trip... Thanks for this video...
Regards from Tabasco, México [Land of The Olmecs]!
As a person who was there when VHD dropped, I can say, among anime and manga fans, it definitely was cool. ❤
The first time I saw D I fell in love with how cool he was. Wow that statue was beautiful. I saw it on VHS in '87,my 1st year in highschool. To this day I still have my DVD's of Wicked City, Demon City S,and both D's.
D has one of the best settings and lore out there…. Just wish it was more clear.
What is the song starting at 1:40? Is it part of the OST? I don’t recognize it but it’s sick.
I didn't even know this was a series - Thank you so much for enlightening me, I'll have to check it out :D
In my defence, I've only watched the (apparently) second movie which if I remember correctly didn't have the 'Bloodlust' in the title in my country and was just called 'Vampire Hunter D'. ^^''
Also Amano's art is fantastic - his and the works of Leiji Matsumoto really resonated with me as a kid and still do as an adult :)
I really enjoy your content and I've been introduced to so many new series thanks to your videos - I will be forever grateful for introducing me to Mononoke ;D Keep up the good work (^-^)
I distinctly remember tracking it down on Crunchyroll, but the two small towns I grew up in BOTH had movie galleries despite being several hours away from each other.
My Mom and I watched Vampire Hunter D when I was 13! I’m 44 now lol it’s always been cool to me! 🤷🏾♀️🤣
I love Vampire Hunter D. Nice Video. You deserved the like also for using Vampire Killer.
Recently bought the omnibus for the first three books and I’ve been really enjoy them waiting for the next omnibus on sep 1st
Had no clue this was older than Akira tbh. Those two were what got me into anime to begin with
Vampire Hunter D was actually aired on TBS back in the early 90s. Heavily edited but a rare thing to see on US cable back then.
This was my intro to anime thanks to my brother in law
So glad I found this video at Christmas time when I’m sure to miss out on the greatest figure of all time
Vampire Hunter D has a special place in my heart, a friend of mine had the movie on his laptop and we'd watch it almost everyday just to deal with the stress of the day. One of my favorite movies.
so its safe to say you are a D lover?
I still do not understand why we have not had a vampire hunter d metroidvania, you would think with the popularity of castlevania and with Konami refusing to do anything it would have been considered. I still think bloodlust is one of the best animations I have ever seen, not to mention it was the closest thing to a castlevania symthony of the night anime when I was younger and I still kind of wish we had a castlevania movie with this art.
There is somthing about 80s 90s anime that just has somthing that modern anime does not have and I really miss it.
I love the magic of that movie. The music still gets me.
I long for these old dark scifi and fantasy anime movies that flooded the 80s and 90s before animes became cOoL all of a sudden lol
Vampire Hunter D and it's Sequel are so special to me I showed it to a bunch of my friends and while since the first one is so silly by modern anime standards it's so great that I got to show them how amazing it is
