  • I recorded this before the real problems of the current situation became overwelming, so although I say in it that I've filmed another part to this and that it's coming soon; I don't think that will be possible for the forseeable future. I'm sorry.
Someone very important to me is extremely vulnerable... and; she is actually quite likely to die if she gets the illness; so I've decided to self isolate with her and that means I can't film round-ups for the next video, or any of the other outings I've filmed until things change.
I hope that you and your loved ones remain safe throughout this worldwide crisis.
I hope you enjoy this video too. If you do, please give it a like, a subscribe, a comment, a share... whatever you feel comfortable with. Suggestions, comments and criticisms are all welcome.

I've had a few comments here suggesting that I took someone else's treasures from the picnic table.
    This is not the case.
It's common practice amongst bottle diggers and mudlarks in the area to gather many finds, and not take all of them.
It's certainly fun to find many; However it's not fun to carry home, attempt to clean, and then dispose of bottles that are in terrible condition. Instead, you gather them up in the excitement of the hunt, then decide at the end which ones to take... leaving the others for anyone else who comes along to pick through. All of the bottles on that table had flaws, either rampant Glass disease, chips, cracks, or heavy rust staining. The two I took were no better in that regard. There were better bottles still on the beach.
Someone said that the person who found them all had perhaps just gone to the toilet or something and would be back for them, as they had left their bags beneath the table. The bags beneath the table were full of plastic rubbish, which I believe was somebody's admirable attempt to clean up the paddock after the flood, as were the several other piles of detritus stacked up alongside the path.
Lastly; as expected, the bottles were still there much later in the day when some other mudlarkers explored that beach (I saw them and talked to them from the other side of the river), and most of the bottles were still there a week later when I went again.

We were those other people (also mudlarking) who Tom spoke to that day and I can 100% confirm that the bottles on the table were left by someone who had collected them but chose not to take them home for reasons Tom explained. When we saw them, Tom had moved to the other side of the river to us, which requires a long walk and 2 mile drive by car (river far too dangerous to wade across) so no one had just left them whilst they went to the toilet.

I wonder why some think to look for the bad in things? Insinuating you 'stole' someone else's finds. Anyway, I enjoyed this and love your calm, cool demeanor. Very relaxing.

Luana Meyer Yes, sadly there’s often someone out there who wants to just spoil our fun and find fault with others. I suggest they take a hard look in a mirror and ask themselves why being a know it all is so important to them. Why they presume someone might be taking what isn’t theirs etc. It seems someone is projecting the negatives in their own character onto others so he/she can feel holier than thou. Sorry to rant on, but I can’t help but be a protective mother figure to our lovely Tom. He brings so much joy to so many. 💦💧💦💧💦💧💦💧💦

Soft squishy mud, puts me in mind of mud pies and twig forts on a sunny afternoon in summer during my childhood. I loved the mud squishing between my toes, I got every time wading along our creek, my hair plaited in braids, wearing an old dilapidated straw hat I borrowed from my grandmother. No broken bottles in our creeks tho, just bright pebbles, fat trout, and caddisfly larva. ...sigh...Just thinking of all those fantastic possible creative projects makes me envy you your cluttered creeks. Thanks for another fun adventure Tom. Stay healthy, stay happy, and have a God blessed day!

I'm really enjoying it, clear skies and not like that blustery day with the same eroded cliffs.

I love walking with you and your interesting way of describing the world around you and the way you pick up and save or discard but I do think you hurt that little jars feeling by saying it was only a jar. It took me out of the mood you had kindly put me in that I also need in today's world of madness and strife. You sound like a kind man with a bazaar art mind that would love "The Neighborhood" and " Far Out" also a few more lke "Bizarre" and I do love the work that you have displayed. I now must sit in front of my tiny little bottles and tiny dishes that don't match and dream of the world floating in space on the back of elephants on a turtle floating in space. It has been rough here. Self quarantined and avoiding our grown daughter who works still. She doesn't want to give us the virus if she is exposed. So we text and wave from a distance. Just hard not being able to kiss her or my grandbabies. So I ride my tricycle and enjoy the out of doors and nature. Not able to go to the beaches as they are closed. We have 3 confirmed cases just across the river from us. But we have access to the military base for groceries and beer. So not too bad. And I am a reasonable cook. So we are not starving. I'm not jealous that you've got the river right outside your home, not at all, nope... am I convincing? 🙂 I'm locked down on a hilltop as far from the rivers as I can get... and my daily government mandated walk outing can get me to the water's edge and back, but not to any decent mudlarking spots.

@@tomburleigh9261 I'm actually not at home. I'm staying in Kent with my family. Slowly suffocating. I'm missing the river terribly. So I guess we're in a similar situation. There is a small river down the road, which I'm hoping to explore over the weekend. Not sure much will come out of it though, but water is water, so a little lake is better than none. It's a surreal feeling when you can't be as free as we're used to. You stay safe too. Hopefully we can get back to the adventurous lifestyle we love, soon. 🤞🤞🤞🌻☘️🍁🌝🌧️🌈🌊🌂⛱️

More trees have been planted since, I doubt they can stop the river anymore than the ones now gone though; I think it's going to continue cutting into the dump for a few more decades before changing course; it was known to be a winding river when the dump was built. 🙁 Oh well, I'll keep on visiting when I can, taking some of the trash and treasures. It's certainly a shame what's happening, but I'm OK with being stuck indoors if it helps... I can still go out for walks in the woods, just not filming in the rivers; and I can concentrate on other projects, like writing some books and recording some audio things. I'll be back to it eventually; I love mudlarking... but I plan on doing what I can to keep putting out some video content in the meantime. 🙂 I hope you're coping well, and that you can stay safe through this.

there are more interesting things on that one stretch of beach than in my entire
hunting area along my local brook....! I need to travel further afield and find some
where with far more industrial past it would seem.

Tom take care of yourself and your lady. I will miss your vids but will look forward to the future when all is well and you're back showing me more of the beautiful UK. Thank you so much for all the lovely things you've shown me.

Thank you, I will try my best to be safe for me and others. I'm hoping I can make at least a few more videos, albeit without round-up, because my finds are at home and I'm locked down in isolation elsewhere. I do have my computer, and footage from a few recent outings though. 🙂

Some nice finds! I had no idea they used to make glass batteries! It will make an awesome pen holder! I look forward to your next video! 👍🇦🇺

Thank you. 🙂 Glass batteries were quite common before houses were wired up, used to power early radios.

I have enjoyed your forays for a bit now. Your camera work and production as well as voice over is superb. Love the music too. From the U.S.

I would love to see you take the bottles that are broken that can be cut down. Nicola's friend likes to cut them down. Also some of the large partial clay pots can be used as frog shelters for frogs in a hot garden.

Like so many things, it's a thing I've planned on doing since the beggining, and haven't quite gotten around to. I did at least find my tile cutter a few weeks ago; what I didn't quite find was work space to set it up. But... that's a lovely idea for the partial clay pots, thank you... there are many frogs in the area I live in. 🙂
