Tom Burleigh you find the most interesting things! The larger glass dabber looking thing must have been the sugar crusher. Very nice! How they survived is amazing! Seeing the erosion continue is very sad. Stopping a river on its quest is impossible.

Aw, thank you. I doubt I can keep on doing them forever, but I'll carry on for as long as I enjoy them and health and other commitments allow... which will probably be for years to come.🙂
We had a fantastic day Tom, thank you so very much for an amazing lark with an incredible amount of treasure to find. Also for the "shout out", I've had so many more views and comments on my little channel thanks to this video and in just a few hours. I couldn't watch the premier, we are an hour ahead of UK time and I was too tired, but watched it like a fond memory this morning, not only was that filmed days before lock down, but also days before I last saw Ellie and my family in the UK. Goodness knows when I'll see them again. 😢. All the best from Linda and I here in the Netherlands (with the big jar) and Ellie back home, hope to see you again. Stay safe and healthy 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Thanks to you too James and Ellie, you both helped make it a very fun day. 🙂 I'm glad my shoutout has helped, I just pointed them in your direction, it's your cool craft idea and great little video of it that's made people subscribe and comment. I hope you and Linda and Ellie, and all the rest of your family are coping well, and I hope to see you again before too long. 🙂 Keep safe and healthy too.
@@findcreate6174 That's great, I hope that's not the end of the bump yet; my video's going fairly strong (Second most popular video by this point after release)... so maybe there'll be another 5,000 or so views by the end of the week on mine, and a good number of those will check out your channel. 🙂
What a wonderful lark! In my eyes, you pretty much hit the jackpot with a little of this and a little of that- all of which I'd pick up and be glad for! Like you, I always retrieve all brass and copper, and then... whatever catches my eye. I follow the tides, so the angle of the sun on any given day is different and can reveal new things I've missed time and again. I do hope you can make your way back home again soon- for your sake, but also for the selfish reason- that I dearly want to see a grand round up! As an aside, I have to say that where I live, they apparently enlisted babies and young children into whaling or other hard work, as there are few toys beyond marbles- and very few of them. I chuckle at the notion every time I go out. Chaos at sea, toddler at the helm. Oh wait.... ouch.
Hello Tom! My favorite find of the day was the pitcher or creamer from the doll's tea set with the creepy face on it. I have a number of complete and partial doll tea sets in my collection.
Hello Gene, Thank you. I haven't had a chance to clean that up yet; it's still at my old address which I can't really visit... but yes, that was certainly a standout find for me too. 🙂
Large, heavy... and sell on eBay for less than $10 on eBay. (plus shipping). I wouldn't have minded taking it if I hadn't found so much already, it would be a pretty cool find in isolation.
Oh Tom the sounds of you walking through the water and wet grass brought back wonderful memories for me .thanks for a great video again.regards Sue In N Z joined james
Thanks Sue, I didn't know if anyone would like that bit; I've filmed my feet walking through that puddle in the field 3 times and put it in videos 3 times... yours is the first comment to mention it 🙂
Thank you. I agree, better to give it to James who had an ideal use for it, than take it myself and keep it in a shed till I figured out someting to do with it. 🙂
So many finds , so little time ! I would have to spend six days and seven nights out there picking . Wish that we had sites like this in the States . I like the dog head close to the end of the video , so glad that you picked it back up , I thought that you were going to leave him . It looks like a Wired Hair Terrier ???? . Thanks for another wonderful video : )
I had such a nice time! Oh Tom, the antique baby feeder bottle is so wonderful! What an amazing find, Congratulations! Loved the miniature lead figures...so precious and of course the pipe finds were awesome. Keep picking up those clay pots, they are my favorites! Til next time, stay safe and hold those you cherish close! ~Jen
Thanks Jen, I'm very glad you enjoyed it. I had such a lot of fun that day; great finds and good company. I hope you're keeping safe and well, and being close to your loved ones too.🙂
Thanks chrisfieldaselvis, I'm always hopeful that I'll find one 🙂 It's perhaps better to hope than the reality of having a Codd Bottle; the thrill of the hunt and all that.
Another good one Tom I'd love to see James's bathroom floor when it's completed- please ask him if he will send you a picture to put on your site when it's done.
Thanks Jan, I'm sure he'd be happy to do that; and he'll want to lark with me again sometime when he's visiting the UK so I could probably put the image in that video if and when it happens.
Awww you left the antique bed pan. I knew a physician who collected all sorts of these and decorated his office with them. Some stunning painted enamel ones.
Thank you Tom, that was wonderful! Just what the doctor ordered.. I'm thinking the dog head at the last might be an Airedale, we had one when I was a teen, forty some years ago. He loved the water too.
Tom, We are really at the mercy of nature, but it is fascinating to see the trash/treasures that have been exposed. Apropos that, I have a couple of questions. If you were just starting this kind of activity in this area, would you have taken a different selection of "goodies"/ and what will happen to all that treasure when it washes into the river, where will it end up? Thank you again for a scary but fascinating day, I kept praying nothing would come down on any one, but obviously it didn't:) Cheers, Rik Spector
Thanks Rik, When I first went there; I was awed by the number of bottles, and I gathered many... not really thinking about how bulky, hard to clean, and ultimately how scratched up they tend to be from this site. If I were just starting over at the site, my immediate taste would depend on how much mudlarking I'd done elsewhere, and what my expectations were; now that I've found bottles elsewhere in fairly large number, I might concentrate on the small things; the lost toys and scrap metals. The things I leave are picked over by quite a few other mudlarks, so hopefully the lead I miss gets taken as well as a lot of the bottles. Eventually, some of the glass that goes into the river will wash up on coastal beaches and be called Sea Glass; some of the polutants will make it harder for wildlife to thrive in the river (although might be good for some of the plants and micro-organisms). A lot of it will lie in mud a long way downstream for a great many years, perhaps until it's encased in rock. 🙂
@@tom_burleigh Thank you,Tom I find your style very pleasant and really appreciate it when you reply to me. I am a bird watcher and when I started everything was new and "collectable", but after many years ,it's the details and personal preferences that count, not unlike Mud larking...eh? Eventually Nature will right itself or not, will we right ourselves, who knows, but I follow Carpe Diem and now at 78, I seize it much more firmly but being finite, try not to worry too much.:) Cheers, Rik
Great video Tom, really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for an enjoyable day, was lovely to meet you. Hopefully when lockdown is lifted and normality is restored we may get to go again! Ellie.
Thanks Ellie, was lovely meeting you too. I'm looking forward to some semblance of normality being restored, it might be a few months, or next year sometime... but yes, I'd love to go larking again with you and your dad, and Linda if she's over. Tom.
Sorry I missed your premiere, but happy you got this posted. I'm also happy you had this fun trip before the lock-down. That cliff face is an amazing place, with so much to see it's hard to take it all in. Thanks for sharing another one of your wonderful adventures.
Some fantastic finds as usual.. I particularly liked the old baby bottle, the uranium glass and that awesome flower at the end that James found. As for the kayak..... maybe a rubber rind and scuba gear instead? Hehe just joking but seeing more of the river definitely gets my vote if you ever find a way. Thanks for sharing and stay safe and well.
Thanks Jayne. Some of the inflatable kayaks I've looked at aren't much better than a rubber ring 😄. I have thought of scuba diving in the river; I have my Padi open water qualification, but the visibility isn't great.
Tom Burleigh Yes they did scuba diving on River Hunters that was on tv a while back. Shame about the visibility though. On the positive side, the commentary wouldn’t be quite so interesting under water.. blub.... blub
@@KittyGrey13 I follow a few US youtubers who do little else but scuba dive in rivers. The commentary when it comes, isn't usually very interesting... but they're popular channels. DALLMYD is perhaps the biggest... and it does look like so much fun; I'd be very tempted to do it in clearer rivers... not many of them around here though, too full of peat from the moors.
Tom Burleigh well I like your videos as they are anyway. It’s nice to have a ramble through places that few people would even think of going. I suppose you could experiment with some magnet fishing but that would only bring up metal of course. You do have some wonderful beaches to explore there though despite the lack of clarity to the water.
How do you stop yourself from taking everything! I love the stone wear, it's those little pots that I adore so much! I live where we don't see much trash dumps, and the people who do throw trash are mostly recent and it is destroying our deserts prestine beauty. We are not very old from English standards but I live down the road from where Billy the kid used to roam.
I really enjoyed this video as there was so much to see and pick but i was worried for you as you negotiate the slippery and soft slopes. Glad you are safe anf looking forward to your round up already. God bless! Tammy🌻
Thanks Tammy, I think a little fall every now and then is good for me, keeps me from getting complacent... no falls that day, but lost my boot twice, that should help me in judging things better next time. I hope you're keeping safe and well, God bless, Tom. 🙂
Another thoroughly enjoyable water and mudlark with you, Tom 🙂. I was a little alarmed that you might fall completely in the drink under the power of a mobilised riverbank but you survived unscathed - phew 😏!!
Thank you Margaret. Yes, I was a little reckless on this outing; I knew I would have to go into lock-down soon, and was determined to make the most of it. Thankfully, my camera is waterproof, so it would have added to the footage... and I'm a strong enough swimmer to make it to the side of that river, at that water level; probably about 50 yards downstream of where I went in... but long before being too tired to make it out of the current. 🙂
What a lovely intro and that jar.Im so glad that it wasn't left behind (I make terrariums).I enjoyed every minute of this new adventure . The glass rod and perfume dabber were the highlights for me but there was just so many things to choose from this time. I'm looking forward to seeing all the treasures cleaned up and displayed Tom.
Thank you, I've missed larking too. I'm not quite back to full larking; the places I park near here are all closed for the time being, and I have to be doubly careful still. But there will be some summer larking videos before very long... maybe interspersed with the spring walks and exploration videos I've already filmed. 🙂
I haven't gone away; but after the last upload (a three part series over 6 days), I felt a bit fried and took an extra few days off... should be back on a more or less regular schedule again now; though not all of them will be mudlarking as I can't get out far and wide at the moment.
@@tom_burleigh I am sure it has been difficult especially since you are not at home. The Johnson's are mudlarking again so hopefully you will be able to soon! We were planning a trip over in September but are unsure as to whether we will be able to make it or not. With the two week quarantine in place upon arriving, it would be pointless for us to travel. We only planned to spend 7 days. The yarn even I was going to attend in Perth was cancelled as well. We may just have to plan for another year.
How did I miss this?? Great to see another Tom Burleigh mudlark. That cliff face made me a bit anxious! I see the rivers have risen quite a bit there, as well. Do you know why the baby feeders had such a big impact on child mortality?
Hello from cincinnati ohio. Between the riots and the virus, I'm staying put. Your videos are my escape...thanks so much for these adventures. P.S. your voice is so soothing.
Hiya tom what a place to hunt , dangerous but exciting all the same , nice lid you found, rare to get them with some advertising on them in one piece, until the next take care and thanks for the trip 👍🇮🇪
I was holding my breath during you walking on those clay surfaces. Thank you for the video. And a blue and white bathroom floor, wonderful! I wish I could do that, but our rivers and creeks have very little in them in the US. Take care!
Thanks Mary; yes... I'm impressed with the scope of James's crafting ambition, I think it'll look good when it's done and hopefully he can do it so that there aren't too many levels in it to catch dust; or a stubbed toe. I might consider it as a project myself if I can ever afford my own house; but first things first, I've just started collecting pottery to tile a bird feeding station. 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and hope you're keeping safe and well.
I feel so bad that the trees fell, I think if I had this problem I would try to get them and plant them somewhere else like in my yard! I see so many things that I would take, its overwhelmingly amazing! How to you do this without taking everthing, Tom? I keep forgetting to tell you about a toilet bowl cleaner that I use to get rust and calcium build up off, it's the lysol × 10 its gets the rust out and other stubborn stains, I just soak it for a bit, i sound like a commercial! But t works well especially on porcelain and glass, Well we use it to clean the toilet so I figured I would try to use it for finds and it worked better than I expected. I would do a test area on the bottom of stuff just to make sure its not going to disintegrate your finds tho!
That's very admirable of you... they're Birch, and not great trees for gardens; but I was sad to see them die just because they'd been planted in a doomed place. I have limited space to take things too, so while restraint is something I'm still developing; it's something I had a little of already when I started. Thanks for the recomendation on Lysolx10, I'll keep an eye out for it; not sure if the local supermarket stocks it or not but I can perhaps get it online. 🙂
Dear Tom Burleigh, Thank you for the upload - I am looking forward to a future round up. The Yorkshire skies were breathtakingly beautiful on that day. Roger & Gallet still exists today: they specialise in cosmetics, skincare, and hygiene products. I believe that the decoration inside the lid may still be their current branding. Impressive multitasking on your part😉: cinematography, boot management, potential dragon offspring rescue, water levels assessment, etc.
Love these mud larking videos and would really love to be pointed in the right direction as to which part of the Calder river this dump is . I would really struggle to pull myself away from here . The amount and variety of stuff found is unbelievable . Your videos are very informative and have me hooked as do the the northern mudlarks and kit and caboodles . Fingers crossed and keep the videos coming
Thank you, I'm glad you like some of the channels I like too. 🙂 This site... isn't on the River Calder. Rather a lot of mudlarks and bottle collectors know of it nowerdays... most of the time that I go there now it's kinda disappointing, but this video was filmed right after flood waters carved out some new old things to find... so, I can't really recommend going there with any expectations, unless straight after lots of rain. It's been 2 months since the rivers rose, and dozens of larkers will likely have been there... even though the site that sits on top has been closed for most of that time. So... I do limit somewhat how many people I reveal certain locations to, I'm not generally precious about the sites I visit, but... I showed some bottles in a dangerous, asbestos contaminated dump in a walk video with a warning about the risks of taking them and the caution needed, they were probably dug 5+ years ago, the hole looked like an old one... they were gone a week later. 😕
Thank you for your reply . I’m not a bottle digger as such just what I come across while out walking our dog .I have found somewhere quite close to myself which seems to be stuff from the 40s etc lots of jam jars which I am re using for my Seaham sea glass which is quite close to where we live . Must say mud larking is very addictive always picking up lots of broken pottery and when I have enough will eventually make something for the garden or even a mosaic tile or two haha . I have watched all your other videos as well as other fellow mud lurkers and enjoy them immensely .My eyes are always fixed on the ground now looking for whatever treasures there are to be found .

Your camera work is better than some people who are on two legs on stable ground :) A lovely mudlark, thank you for sharing. The glass batteries are very small compared to one that I have. It came from a farm in South Australia for a 32V system, it is 31 cm tall, 17 cm x 14 cm opening, the other half ( from the farm) thinks that there were 12 or more of them in rows and supplied the farms electricty needs.

I live my mudlarking life through you, as we don't have places like this where I live in Canada. :) Take care, stay safe and hope you are allowed to go home again soon.
Aw, thank you. I doubt I can keep on doing them forever, but I'll carry on for as long as I enjoy them and health and other commitments allow... which will probably be for years to come.🙂
Thank u Tom always I enjoy your video s n love them u keep mudlarking hope u well n safe take care always
Thanks Raima Mohommed, I hope you're keeping safe and well too. 🙂
Great video sir 👍
Thank you 🙂 Your own videos are wonderfully shot, and well presented... can I ask what camera you use?
@@tom_burleigh yeah of course, the hi-tech galaxy S10 lol im planning on getting a legit camera soon
YOU have guts my dear man to traverse that cliff.
@@tom_burleigh My subscribers have gone from 12 to 269 since sunday :)
@@findcreate6174 That's great, I hope that's not the end of the bump yet; my video's going fairly strong (Second most popular video by this point after release)... so maybe there'll be another 5,000 or so views by the end of the week on mine, and a good number of those will check out your channel. 🙂
Hi Tom, It is Marvelous to listen to you as you softly explain your Wonderful Mudlark Finds California Loves You 🐒🎶🧜♀️BellaDonna
Thanks Donna, I love California too. 🙂
Wow, so many gorgeous old bottles. Bottle Heaven. Very enjoyable video.
Lovely finds and scenery!! Thank you for taking us along!!❤️😷🇨🇦🇬🇧
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Maybe the soldier was wearing Wellies and lost his feet along with the in the mud🤣🤣♥️♥️ You are much braver than I.
There's a thin line between bravery and idiocy 🙂
The white “bodily function “ object you picked up but didn’t take was an old hospital bed pan. They do have some value.
I was going to say the same thing.
yep, should have grabbed that one, it was complete!
okay...they are large and heavy! Be safe!
Large, heavy... and sell on eBay for less than $10 on eBay. (plus shipping). I wouldn't have minded taking it if I hadn't found so much already, it would be a pretty cool find in isolation.
@@tom_burleigh two words... Marcel Duchamps.....
Excellent camera work we could see anything that you missed. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Oh Tom the sounds of you walking through the water and wet grass brought back wonderful memories for me .thanks for a great video again.regards Sue In N Z joined james
Thanks Sue, I didn't know if anyone would like that bit; I've filmed my feet walking through that puddle in the field 3 times and put it in videos 3 times... yours is the first comment to mention it 🙂
Fantastic ; love when you stumble on a veritable grotto of potential creations
And that's such a great place for that; so much variety. Hope I can go back soon. 🙂
I absolutely love your voice and your wit! You are funny. Thank you for making me smile!
Really enjoyed our walk..loved the glass perfume dabber xx
Thanks Sue. Turns out the first one was a Sugar Crusher, the second one remains a perfume dabber. 🙂
That jar made a beautiful vase. I so enjoy your videos. :-)
Thank you. I agree, better to give it to James who had an ideal use for it, than take it myself and keep it in a shed till I figured out someting to do with it. 🙂
Great interesting finds , the dog head looked like a fox terrier . A pleasure as always Tom .
The camera work is as actually great Tom. It made me feel like I was actually there!
Aw, thank you, that's very kind of you. 🙂
So many finds , so little time ! I would have to spend six days and seven nights out there picking . Wish that we had sites like this in the States . I like the dog head close to the end of the video , so glad that you picked it back up , I thought that you were going to leave him . It looks like a Wired Hair Terrier ???? . Thanks for another wonderful video : )
usa located and i love uk related topics and history....so many wonderful items filmed here...thank you and take care...Joseph
Thanks Joseph, I hope you're keeping safe and well too. 🙂
I hope you're keeping safe and well, and being close to your loved ones too.🙂
That beautiful French lid! Thanks for the trip.
Yes, I'm not sure what I'll do with it, possibly keep it as a key dish by the door... it's a lovely thing. I'm glad you enjoyed the outing. 🙂
Best video yet....that dumps awesome ...I'm sure a codd will be found at the base of the tip
@@tom_burleigh Great!
The treasures, so many! Great video. Love your adventures.
Thanks, I am very lucky to have such a great site to go to. 🙂
Thank you Tom ! Keep em coming ! Stay well !
Thanks Jane, I hope you're staking well too. 🙂
What you called a urinal is what we call a bed pan in the States. I love your videos! You're voice is spectacular!
Ah, thank you... yes, it does look like an Airedale terrier. 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you Tom, I enjoyed it as always. Take care and stay safe, I look forward to your after lock down round ups.
Thanks Debbie, I hope you're staying safe and well too. 🙂
16:43 I believe this item is an Edwardian hot water bottle/ bed warmer 👍🏼
Thank you. 🙂
Tom,
We are really at the mercy of nature, but it is fascinating to see the trash/treasures that have been exposed.
Apropos that, I have a couple of questions.
If you were just starting this kind of activity in this area, would you have taken a different selection of "goodies"/ and what will happen to all that treasure when it washes into the river, where will it end up?
Thank you again for a scary but fascinating day, I kept praying nothing would come down on any one, but obviously it didn't:)
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Thanks Rik,
When I first went there; I was awed by the number of bottles, and I gathered many... not really thinking about how bulky, hard to clean, and ultimately how scratched up they tend to be from this site.
@@tom_burleigh Thank you,Tom
I find your style very pleasant and really appreciate it when you reply to me.
I am a bird watcher and when I started everything was new and "collectable", but after many years ,it's the details and personal preferences that count, not unlike Mud larking...eh?
Eventually Nature will right itself or not, will we right ourselves, who knows, but I follow Carpe Diem
and now at 78, I seize it much more firmly but being finite, try not to worry too much.:)
Cheers,
Rik
Hi Tom! Another fun video! Thanks for taking me along!
Tom.
Hi Tom. Just settling down to watch this before bed. Another great vid no doubt!
I hope you've enjoyed it, sleep well. 🙂
I love that bottle that looks like a fish, great find...
Sorry I missed your premiere, but happy you got this posted. I'm also happy you had this fun trip before the lock-down. That cliff face is an amazing place, with so much to see it's hard to take it all in. Thanks for sharing another one of your wonderful adventures.
What a beautiful location. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ray, I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
Yes, best voice plus I love the music. I really appreciate the history pieces you share.
Very enjoyable meander. Wish I had a waterway near me to explore but I’m quite happy to share yours.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it 🙂 I'm certainly very lucky to live close enough to visit this site easily.
Happy to see this video. I have missed your larks.
Thank you, I've missed larking too. I'm not quite back to full larking; the places I park near here are all closed for the time being, and I have to be doubly careful still. But there will be some summer larking videos before very long... maybe interspersed with the spring walks and exploration videos I've already filmed. 🙂
Thank you. I look forward to them.
I have missed your videos, glad to have you back! You are finding some neat things.
24:32 clay pipe!! I love nicola white, also si finds, chill bill n noggin. I seen a video with you two, hence I started following you 👍😎
Thanks for sharing your video Tom 👍☺ really enjoyed it.
Can't wait for more of your wonderful videos 😊
So many pretties thank you tom
I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
How did I miss this?? Great to see another Tom Burleigh mudlark. That cliff face made me a bit anxious! I see the rivers have risen quite a bit there, as well. Do you know why the baby feeders had such a big impact on child mortality?
Very enjoyable and relaxing. Thank you
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. 🙂
Hello from cincinnati ohio. Between the riots and the virus, I'm staying put. Your videos are my escape...thanks so much for these adventures. P.S. your voice is so soothing.
Thank you Tom, I really enjoyed that xxx

Thankyou for sharing your outing Tom.
Thanks Sarah, I hope you're keeping safe and well. 🙂
@@tom_burleigh Definitely.
What a fantastic spot you've got there...accompanied by your great narration. Love it.
Thank you for the lark! Keep safe!
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it. Hope you're keeping safe too. 🙂
Kudos to you Tom for traversing that precarious shore of refuse. What a treasure trove. Saw some things I would have liked😅thanks for sharing.
Thanks Yvonne, it's certainly a site with something for every Mudlarker's taste. 🙂 And crafters; lots of things for crafting too.
Some lovely finds Tom and a fun day out albeit a bit treacherous. I would hazard a guess at the doggie from the beach being an Airdale terrier?
Dear Tom Burleigh,
Thank you for the upload - I am looking forward to a future round up.
Wow that was great, really interesting 🦘
Thanks Misty, I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Thanks Tom for a lovely excursion
First time watching. Really enjoyed the hunt! You should wear life vests just in case the bank gives way you fall in...it made me nervous all the way across the pond🇺🇸Stay
Glass rod, sugar crusher, lovely find

Beauty of a lid
One of the best I've ever found... just have to find the pot to go with it now. 🙂
You make wonderful videos. Thank you for sharing with us :-)
Thank you, I'm glad you like them 🙂
