Morena is a form of endearment. I love being called morena because I feel like my skin is beautiful and it’s being acknowledged. Idk it doesn’t make sense in English but in Spanish that’s what I can describe it as. I am Dominican and my mom and sister look white so I would be called morena if someone was to describe me.

Yes!! Europeans are so much more direct about calling others by their race! For me, it's just been random times that race was brought up unnecessarily, or made into a topic of discussion without cause. Like eating dinner, and people just feel the need to mention all the different races of people at the table, like they are proud of the integration or something. It definitely takes some getting used to. Especially with the use of the word "chino" which is *a little too close* to the English slur for my comfort, lol.
On the second-note, yes please do a follow-up on your experience and job search as well as work you did.

I'm was thinking about moving to Spain for various reasons but being the father of 2 black children this was a worry of mine. While I am of Afro-Caribbean descent I'm so fair skinned that most people don't believe I am Haitian and Dominican. That being said black face would offend me as well & not just for the sake of my children. This video helped put my mind at ease a bit though. Thank you!

Hi munny I'm a dad from Spain, let me tell you that most likely your kids will be treated great. If you can, have a vacations in Malaga or Seville (South of Spain) or Valencia (at the East) they are relaxed cities and will give you time to understand us a bit better.
For the black face situation, the tradition as explained in the video, is for the three wise kings to represent one from Europe Melchor, one from East Gaspar and one which represent Africa Baltasar (here known as three Wizard Kings) so every year schools ask volunteers between fathers to act as the Kings. If that year the school has no black dads who can lend a hand they had little option because noone outside the moms, dads or school staff is allowed to enter the school for safety reasons.
We also make one great parade for the Kings in every city and village and when black voluntaires are available they are granted the position of King Gaspar or his servents. But as you see is not always possible.
Sorry if this made you unconfortable, but was never our intention. This is all made with respect and having in mind that Baltasar is a figure as respected here as Santa is in US.

We Spanish men tend to stare at women (from all backgrounds) probably in a way that for Americans would probably be felt as disrespectfull. Sorry for that, that's a cultural difference right there. Curiosity, attraction...You name it.
In response, Spanish girls treat us back (usually) with disdain.
I know it's a different game than in the USA.
I am sure that in your case those stares ware exactly that case. Most surely nothing to do with racism.
Ask your Spanish girl friends about it.

I live in Chicago suburbs ok. When they do black face here they do not care! No one has a conscious. Hatred prevails. And had you walked into that same room here? You most likely would have ended up missing. The fact they felt uncomfortable doing that in front of you' and YOU are in THEIR country. Despite that they felt respect for you and felt guilty.

Also The Black Madonna some say the statues's faces are dark because of oxidation... no the first virgin child birth to place in Africa in the area of Kem/egypt/the black land. King Asar, Queen Isis and their virgin born son "Heru". This is why the pope and other european noblemen bow down to the Black Madonna because this is where the Mothe Father and Child stories we know, came from. Let your study go way beyond the inventions of the religions. ASE' and Be Empowered! ✊️

Prior to 1995, I can assure you there were *no foreign people* at all in Spain. Not only Latinos or Africans, but NOBODY at all. Maybe 1 out of 1000 people might have had a non-spanish origin.
So for the Three Wise Men celebration a Xmas time, some white actor had to "blackface" in order to fake it, because - I repeat - there weren't any coloured person at all in the wild.
However 30 years later, 18% of the population is foreign (27% in Madrid), and you can find lots of southamerican or caribbean guys to perform that role, but some prefer to keep the tradition.

Left's people still fitghting this kind of nosense things, and in a lot of cities and towns it's no longer done, so it's completely understandable that it bothers you. The "black face" Three Kings thing is actually a (small, fortunately) political issue here. Right leaning parties insist on using it while left leaning ones don't unless there's no alternative (i.e. small villages with low population). Madrid is ruled by the right nowadays, so there's the cause of what you have seen.
In a particularly funny moment, a far right party mounted an alternative parade to the official one organized by a left government of the city (back then), which they considered too "untraditional". They had a neo-nazi guy with painted face pose as Balthazar, and his angry face at the parade became a meme we laughed at. They're just too dumb to take them seriously.
