The Shangri-Las - Shout

- The Shangri-Las singing 'Shout' on the Lloyd Thaxton Show. This video is from February 1965. Mary would have been 16. Betty, who isn't featured in this performance, temporarily left the group because of "personal commitments". Both Mary and Betty are still alive but, unfortunately, the twins, Margie and Mary-Ann, have since passed away.
The twins' faces are obscured because it is a low quality VHS dub from a timecoded master tape, and the timecode has been smudged. Sorry!
Sorry it's a poor quality kinescope.
Mary died yesterday. I am very, very sad. Condolences to her sister, Elizabeth.
Mary had my exact birthday, month day and year. She died on January 19, my sister Elizabeth's ( Libby) birthday. Talk about coincidence! Born same day. Sisters with the same name.. and she died on that sister's birthday. What are the odds?
Mary is one of my top 5 reasons for wanting access to a time machine.
Mary Wells is a beautiful girl!
Yes, she's gorgeous in every way!
Still a babe
was she the singer
Yes! Me too
I remember my two older sisters dancing exactly like this. RIP Sisters!
RIP
If they were around today in 2022, with their unique ( at the time) songs they would be cleaning up awards. So ahead of their time.
Well one of their songs have been raped by TikTok already, so why not...
Idk. They borrowed this song from another band from 1959.
Rest in peace mary
Mary
RIP Mary. The Shangri Las' were the epitome of "cool".
Mary Weiss was certainly ahead of the times. Love the Shangri-la s ♥️
The whole group was beautiful, and god blessing to the ones we lost.
Mary was amazing. She wasn't appreciated enough.
Waaaaaw, awesome! I love her voice!
The twins lived just a short distance from my house and the high school they attended was also close to my home.
Cambria Heights. Andrew Jackson High School. 219th St.
The best sounds came out of the 60's!
Her voice makes me want to cry from sadness and happiness at the same time, it's so painfully sweet. Love!
OMG! I always thought this was a black girl group. Love the singer's voice, its raw and smooth/sweet at the same time.
+square1971
I thought the same for Leader of the Pack.
Was so surprised to see white girls
check out Train to Kansas City, I heard the Neko Case version first, but the Shangs do a great version.
It's actually her older sister, Elizabeth, singing.
Harry Green
On Train to Kansas City?
@@square1971 yes
RIP the two members of The Shangri-Las
Mary Ann Ganser (February 4, 1948 - March 14, 1970), aged 22
Marguerite “Marge” Ganser (February 4, 1948 - July 28, 1996), aged 48
You both will always be remembered as legends.
The twins and Betty Weiss had good hair. And Mary Weiss
The twins will always be in our hearts and Mary Weiss and Betty ❤.
Rest in peace beauty ❤
never apologize for low quality! lol. We're appreciative for you to put this content out there. Thank you : )
Good morning my friend
I was born in 1955 to
These young ladies was great in this era to
Today's music 🎶 is like garbage to
RIP the three ladies to
Am still listening to this music in august of 2024 to
The twins will be missed , as they added something special to the group !
Brings back fond memories !
Great .
gotta love those high tones! Wish more girls would sing like this today!
Absent Betty singing lead vocals but sad to see Mary has passed RIP.
the twins are cracking me up!
... rest in peace.
Never heard a bad version of "Shout" but this one is up with the best. Mary had that bit of grit.
Except you're hearing the studio version with Betty's voice. (Mary's sister) :)
awesome, she was ahead of her time
I never heard this version before...they did a great job with it!
they should be in the hall of fame
Just great group girl's.Iwish it was 1964 all over again.
This is so awesome. Love these ladies ❤❤❤❤
Never heard this before - it's awesome.
She was ahead of her time
I was just saying the exact same thing!
* They. The Gasner twins were just as important to the sound.
Always wanted to watch these live shows in the 1970s but never had the money ( only ever managed to see two 1950s/60s groups ) and now, I have the money but, most of these super Artists are no more.
I hear ya bro.
5年位前RUclipsを知った時一番ききました。メアリー可愛い❤️
I was just a kid, but I remember the Lloyd Thaxton show, he used to come out and mouth a popular song to music,
Wow! I love this! Mary Weiss looks and sounds amazing! The song really puts you in a good mood!!
What stunning vocals and beautiful.ladies
I just discovered and took a dive into the realm of the Shangri-Las; the melodies, the lyrics, the harmony of voices, everything they made was pure gold to ears, I'm astonished; why the hell aren't they revered by the music industry?
That old shit rocks better than many today's two-chords-tunes-bands who think they're the new Beatles
Notice, by the way, how Marge failed to fall backwards at 1:41 and then giggle with Mary Ann...so sweet !
The Shangri-Las are never to be forgotten
After all these years, I still get that funny feeling when I hear and see them sing!
Looking at all the clips of Mary's passing...I checked Wikipedia and found out that Mary and I were born the Same month , same Day , Same Year...she was older by 3 hours...I was born in Los Angeles... :)
This is really great live
Today’s (21st September, 2022) David Lynch morning playlist.
This is great stuff. An awesome blast from the past.
I feel allright... say you will ....in 2019
❤🌹🌺🌷 RIP Mary Weiss 🌺🌹🌷💔😢I loved you.
Love Mary's voice. Very unique. Fun accent.
It's her sister(Betty) who did the singing
Great rendition!
That innocent face rocking this bad girl song. Wouldn't want to mess with those twins!
All of the girls in the Shangri-Las were very tough in real life, according to one of their producers when they started out.
what a voice. fabulous. the best version recorded
Great record & video can't get any better then this
A lot of energy in this song.
Mary Weiss ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I know, lovely lady.....
What a voice. I only knew leader of the pack.
Such an awesome Voice !!!!
And this Evolution of Dance is also ok
Awesome ladies from the early 60's.
Mary, did you have any idea just how "COOL" you girls were? Awesome vocals!!!! Unmatched in any book!!!
Fantastic
shes so pretty..!
and young..!!
with a great and powerful voice!!
this is my favorite song by them!!
How can ppl thumb this song dwn. I love their songs. I'm not even born around those yrs
it's not their song, it's an Isley brothers song.
Because it was a terrible cover. I saw this while trying to find the original version(the only real version that is worth listening to) by the isley brothers. I'm sorry, but this is meant for soul singers.
The iconic Mary Weis !!!
So very underrated as a singer
It's a shame to know it's Betty's voice. Mary looks so good performing to her sister's voice. Oh well, helps me appreciate Betty more. Also a shame we don't have footage of Betty performing to her song.
+raykellerman1978
There is footage of Betty performing it on TV, along with Twist and Shout, when she returned to the group in 1965. It's just not online. She would also take lead on Shout at their live shows.
It was a beautiful group of women
I love the 60's mary weiss, what a voice!
Mary Weiss at 16 . . . oh my my my . . . .
Son niñas talentosas, primera vez que escucho un tema de estas chicas.
me encanta la musica de los 60's y 70's aunque no son de mi epoca.
joey dee and the starlighters(peppermint twist) had the biggest hit version of this song peaking at #6 on the billboard charts
Esta canción es lo máximo!!!
Mary Weiss lead singer of the Shangri-La’s passed away at 75 they had a number of hits, not the biggest group for that era. They sang this song remember and a few others. She continue to sing as long as she had an audience up until her 60s or 70s. Just a reminder of another piece of our rock ‘n’ roll history is gone.
I CAN'T STOP WATCHING AND LISTENING TO THIS :D
The Lloyd Thaxton show aired on weekday afternoons here in Los Angeles. I was only around 6 or 7 years old @ the time.
i rem that i was raised in l a u rem soupy sales white fang black tooth
@@trinidadapodaca7027 Soupy Sales I do but White Fang only sounds slightly familiar to me.
my fave 60's girl band
Yet another excellent recommendation Mr. Lynch!
Que tiempos mas bellos de nuestros padres,, soy feliz por conocer la bella musica..
Love these women.
Girls.
Mary looks so sweet here! I also have to say that this is, by far, my favorite version of "Shout" from anybody. Not really a big fan of the song in general, but these girls made it extremely fun and very, very, catchy.
Rip Mary
This is the first time that I see them. They look nothing like I imagined ..
Still a nice trio :-)
I heard my first Beatles song in the late eighties when I was 11-12 year old. Since I was 14 I almost only listen to sixties music.
Having this love for real music, I had a social handicap with my friends Techno and woofer-noise when I was 16 too my mid twenties. I got some older friends, and most others outgrew the noise, like I outgrew rapmusic.
(2Pac is still a awesome).
My old drinking and snorting friends listened to the noise. My old pothead friends mostly listened to 2Pac and Cypress Hill (Drugs are bad mmmkay).
They had a stage presence and could have gone to the top!
The Classic. The turntable is on Fire ! 🔥
GREAT VERSION
better then music today
Indeed!

OK, 1960's I'm in my teens and these girls are making chart climbing records. Nirvana..............
@john wesson A definition of the word nirvana • "a state of perfect happiness; an ideal or idyllic place". Also, I hate grunge rock and I think Kurt Cobain was WAY OVERRATED.
Am 66 don't remember them covering this, great stuff 👍 uk
this is really old vision that let me think back to my child time,
I will never shout at these ladies.❤
These ladies were a God send in 1965.
The Shangri-Las did it! I think I've been to Shangri-Las. I feel so fine.
The best of times 💓
Love this song. It's amazing. :oo
Bring back the 60's! 64-69 only
She's so cute. Loved this version, and the back up chicks. :D
They are damn good are't they
I saw this when it first aired. Oh dear. Lloyd Thaxton..Cool guy.
An excellent performance
i just LOVE her expressions :o
Considering how young Weiss was at the time this is a pretty great interpretation of the song. I’ve not heard many better.
@Enda Dorgan about 16 or 17 years old. this is 1965 and she was born 1948
THE best of the 60s girl groups without a doubt!
We need a movie made about them
Alison Anders tried, but Mary Weiss won't allow it.
@@DzaVideo why???
@@archepalacio9180 Too many skeletons in the closet.
@@DzaVideo but could you try harder to get her permission, maybe without some ""skeletons""?it's sooo intresting to learn their story, look at them, because wiki tells almost nothing about them
@@alexfilder The things that Mary (and Betty) do not want to talk about are integral to undertanding their story, Arseny.
if you add into this the awsome sound of "i'm blue", this group had real talent coming from all 4 corners.
long live the shangri-las !
Lloyd Thaxton getting startled at the beginning made me LMAO
I just love the blury faces of the girls behind! I makes it a great document...
so Betty was on maturnity leave, what's the *crime* of letting little sister Mary lip synch her vocals for a tv show? the girls had the brass to do this song at all! & they do it quite well.sing with the angels Mary, miss you already
Betty did the LP version, Mary was singing Shout Here Live, Betty didn't have the baby voice like Mary, so this is definitely Mary singing live
