Forget knowing the song from TikTok, I feel ignorant not knowing "whatever happened to the life that we once knew" from the Beatles song "Free As A Bird" is a direct musical and lyrical reference to this song.
Free as a bird was an unreleased demo until the 2000s. This is probably a coincidence. in fact the part Paul sings was written for the anthology release and wasn't originally part of the song. Great song though.
I heard this song many years ago, I think from a Cold Case episode (of all things). And I was like “wait a minute…” because I thought the exact same thing about Paul’s vocals. But I never knew who sang it or what it was called until years later, and I would always incorrectly call it “Walking in the Rain”. Fast forward a few more years, and now it’s been turned into an intolerable snippet for dumb videos.
@Meadow Pinkelle I have some bad news for you about "My Sweet Lord". Look it up. A lot of their early songs are pretty similar to 50s rock songs because rock was a bit more homogenous then. "Dig A Pony" also sounds musically similar to Joe Cocker's cover of the Beatles' own "With A Little Help From My Friends"
FUN FACT: A young Billy Joel played the piano on the sessions for this and The Shangri-Las' follow-up (and biggest) hit "Leader of the Pack." In a 1987 interview with Q magazine, Joel explained: "I met a guy at an Echoes gig - was about 15 and he asked me if I wanted to play piano on a recording. The song was Released: 1965.
I agree with what someone said here, this song defined the era, "it really did". This was a very very special song when it came out, big big hit. And yes, I remember it well, I'm 70 years old.
CKLW radio "The Big 8" Windsor, Ont. played this a lot. It was THE pop radio station in those days. Absolute tops. Bigger than any radio station in LA or NYC btw.
John Lennon claimed that he wrote "Help!" as a slow ballad, and I've always wondered if this was his inspiration, at least in part... The verse here has a very similar chord progression to the intro/chorus of that song, and this would have been a hit around the time he was writing it (late 1964/early 1965).
@@il927 just heard this song for the first time and instantly recognized it! Lennon wrote his song in 1977 so I think this really was inspiration for Help

+rick haley I know that not everything about the 1960s was wonderful. I had a neighbor who lost a leg in Nam. He won the Purple Heart and despite his injury his fiancée married him nonetheless. There were drugs, racial protests, opposition to the war, rebellion. In retrospect I don't see it half as bad as what's going on today: terrorism, uncontrolled immigration, AIDS, government dependence, and the hypocrisy of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Unlike that other song, this is actually original and isn’t completely repetitive and meaningless.
That other song is a beat for Capone's rap btw. So repetitiveness is okay in that case.
Well duh it's a short little sample of a part of a chorus if you did that with any song it would be annoying
@@noahlankford1 depends
The loop itself is annoying. The one with the rap is bearable but gets gritting after a while
But some sounds are made to be looped
Like, everyone trashes Gucci Gang but it actually sounds pretty nice especially because of the piano and even if it loops, it doesn't get old.
Boomer
@@WhooshWh0sh there’s a song that also put a repetitive loop to the “babadaba” thingy from a Beatles song (take a look at my girlfriend). That one also made me hate it so much that I now cringe when the *original* song comes up.

they deserved. But I like the anonymous atmosphere
They really didn’t last long enough. They have a tragic history that should be read about. Truly screwed by the industry

Back to black is written by Mark Ronson not Amy!
@@yasharhp4453 wrong. They both contributed to the track. There are several interviews where Ronson attested to that. When she wrote the lyrics “we only said goodbye with words, I died a 100 times” he said “wait doesn’t it have to rhyme?” And asked her to change the lyrics and she refused and told him that’s the way it came out. Do your research.

My baby went away
He went away 'cross the sea
It's been two years or so

And then this letter came for me
It said that we were through

(Remember) the night was so exciting
(Remember) smile was so inviting

(Remember) with his fingertips
Softly, softly we'd meet with our lips

The boy who said he'd be true
Oh, what will happen to
The life I gave to you?
What will I do with it now?

Forget knowing the song from TikTok, I feel ignorant not knowing "whatever happened to the life that we once knew" from the Beatles song "Free As A Bird" is a direct musical and lyrical reference to this song.
Free as a bird was an unreleased demo until the 2000s. This is probably a coincidence. in fact the part Paul sings was written for the anthology release and wasn't originally part of the song. Great song though.
@@Danocaster214 Idk, it makes sense. The Beatles definitely knew the Shangri-las so it's not so hard to believe

John Lennon claimed that he wrote "Help!" as a slow ballad, and I've always wondered if this was his inspiration, at least in part... The verse here has a very similar chord progression to the intro/chorus of that song, and this would have been a hit around the time he was writing it (late 1964/early 1965).
