Never used to appreciate your channel and that was a mistake
Seriously you and your channel are a gem and I always take something from them
Thank you
"Feel free to use them on weekdays as well" that's comedy gold
I needed this validation! XD
I LOLed, and I haven't done that to a video in a long time! 😄
Listen here now, Stumpy, I play things straight. Ain't no way I risk using these tips on the weekdays. I'll stick to weekends only, thank you very much.
"Feel free to use them on weekdays too." Thanks for the permission! I was worried that if I tried some of these on a Tuesday, they may not work!
You only have to be a little careful, because they only work on days ending with a 'y'. ;o)
Dang, where I live they don't end in "y"...
Love the half lap tip! Little things like that make woodworking so much easier.
Just two videos in, and this is by far one of my favorite series, please keep them coming
Agreed
This series needs more uploads. Please
For the "angle on a square" tip, even if you don't have a chart, you can use trigonometry (tangent of an angle is, by definition, opposite side divided by adjacent side)
NO!
Rise over run is also a fraction aka a percentage, 50% is 45 degrees extra. More math but you won't need a calculator
I was about to say the same thing. Rise/Run = slope = tan (angle). So many folks seem afraid of simple trig, but it's really pretty simple and quite useful.
Oh man, that half lap trick is money!
#1 for supporting drawers for sanding - genius!
I’m always trying to clamp the drawer or clamp blocks into it; this is so simple.
The box holding tip is a good one. Nice easy jig.
Thank you for the half lap tip. That is a peach.
Thanks. That half-lap tip is an especially good one.
#3 was AWESOME.
The more I watch, the more I enjoy these videos. The videos are smart and informative, and I get a kick out of the subtle humor.
i don't do anything with wood working but i really like these down and dirty tips for accomplishing easy tasks=tasks made easy when you know how.
I like the table saw tenon test. So simple and effective.
Fav framing square calculation you can do on your phone calculator...
tan(degrees)*run = rise
Say you want a 22.5° angle on a framing square...
tan(22.5)*12 = 4.97 inch rise on 12" inch run.
Want 60°, it's...
tan(60)*12 = 20.78 inches of rise on 12" inch run.
tan(30)*12
=6.92" inches of rise on 12" inch run is 30°
Of course you can change the run or degrees and get any rise you want for any angle you want. Comes in handy though.
The half lap tip is excellent... so simple... why hadn't I thought of that...lol
Your channel makes this man, who will suck at woodwork the rest of his life, slightly less sucky. Thank you so much.
Holy crap that half lap trick just blew my mind.
News I will definitely use
Came here to say this, indeed very useful tip.
You can actually calculate the angle at the long side through the rise and length by arctan(rise/len), which every calculator is able to compute. Simple geometry and you dont have to rely on tables (which are not complete)
You can use your tips on weekdays as well. Boy got humor!
You're the man, Stumpy!
Thanks, going to print that chart and hang it on my wall beside my square.
Like the new coffee cup! Wish it was a ontreal Canadiens logo though…
The one about setting up for half-laps is a 10. I'm a half-lap joint addict, so it's perfect for me. I used to watch the great Norm Abrams with my dad years ago, and he would always say, "Norm always leaves out how long it took him to set up that tool so it would make a perfect cut. It's not that easy!" That setup tip makes it way easier.
every video makes me smarter, thank you
Half lap trick is nice.
the cup is looking good.
Finally my trig knowledge comes to play. That is a simple use of tan. Interestingly wood working relies quite a lot on trig for me. I find calculations more precise that way, takes out lot of the guess work for me.
Thank you again, really enjoy watching you.
THNX FOR THE INFO, IM KINDA NEW IN WOODWORKING AND U MAKE THE FRUSTRATING THINGS MUCH EASIER
I plan to use these ONLY on Tuesdays, even though they are weekend woodworking tips. Thanks for the knowledge as always.
The lap tip is amazing thank you.
If you lose your chart with the run/rise/angle relationship and have access to a smart phone you can calculate the angle with atan (rise divided by run), or if you want the rise for a run with a certain angle you can do run*tan(angle).
Great tips, every one. And have to say, I am one of the great unwashed who never figured out the perpendicular drill technique using a scrap piece! Sweet n' easy technique, my favorite kind.
Thanks James. I want more! These are some of the most useful tips I have seen.
That was some cool tips!….now if I can just remember them when the time comes.
James you have such great tips for us! Can't thank you enough for what you've taught me!
Finding the center of the wood end is just brilliant!
Thanks for sharing with us James. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
That first one, I use two slotted boards clamped to a stanley benchmate, works quite well.I have been meaning to replace the original boards, when I do one end will be rounded and one end slotted....
Best tip: I can use the weekend tips on weekdays. 😎😄😅😆
If I don't say that, people leave comments like: "Aren't these tips good for weekdays too?"
Hi James, Brilliant video. Tips 1 & 3 are the ones I will be using and it's one of those moments when you say "Why didn't I think of that"?
Thanks as always. Take care James. Cheers, Huw
Love the drilling tip. I always come away from your videos with at least one great idea. Thank you as always.
That half lap tip is golden.

This is so awesome! I think my favorite was the angle "tip" but only by a sliver as the "half a lap" joint method tip is also a very good one. Thanks for making and sharing these videos, take care and have a good one. Adios! 🖐
