When the game first came out Baird would just seem like a smartass but after the judgment he's a smartass but we now know he's a smart ass with high ranks of experience and it fits his character even when we look back at the first game
Exactly we see why he’s a smartass and the fact that Marcus knows he does have combat experience so he trusts him a lot to make decisions on his own, not to mention Cole can as well being with Baird along the whole way since day one. Honestly all of delta squad got them fucking ranks, makes sense they’re the ones in the frontlines the whole time

Baird is a bit of a jerk in GoW 1 but Judgement shows us why as do the books. He was a pretty high rank (his family had a proud military career and wanted him to sign up) and he gets demoted for using a Lightmass Missile without the permission to do so in order to kill a Locust General. So GoW 1 is recently after he gets booted back to bottom rank for doing what he felt, and what was in the end, the right call. While his prosecutor, Ezra Loomis, got thousands of soldiers killed trying to use conventional tactics against the Locust. I think one of the books actually explains that Baird is really standoffish because he uses gallows and rude humor as a way to deal with stress and the fear of losing friends to the brutality of war. Hes got some of the funniest lines in the series IMO

GOW 1 - 3. I love it. I'm a military veteran and the amount of humor and military bullshit that went into all 3 games along with Baird being the one to get bullied of the squad too funny.
And Gears 3, they still smart off to each other, but you get the feeling they trust each other. Marcus trusts Baird technical know how and Baird trusts Marcus’ gut instinct and leadership.
What I love about Baird is that most people with his personality would be the first to cut and run but we could always count on Baird to put himself in the shit along with Marcus, Dom and Cole.
What i loved about these games is that the team itself seems very disfunctional... Yet they were peak sooldiers and the deadliest squad that the locust ever faced. A bunch of psychos that BARELY got along but have a common enemy is my favorite trope.
One can only hold. I know that Marcus and Baird didn’t meet up until they got to the tomb but the banter was really good. I know it was but it was still really good. Hope they bring it back for the old duo. A lot of “player twos” are going to be real happy to see Dom back.

I'm months late but The xbox360 edition of the game cutted out a huge amount of chapters from Act 5. The pc version of the game (yes the original Gears 1 had a PC version) had a total of 8 chapters in act 5. The ultimate edition of gears 1 restored those chapters that the xbox360 cutted out.
I Love the original Gears of War trilogy, but I LOVE Gears of War 2. I had soooo much fun and made so many friends online it's crazy. And Gears of War 3 with 4 player co-op was fun as hell. Gears of War 1 is the reason I got a Xbox 360.
The charecter developement between the two was great, especially in the books. Baird went from being a little shit with just cole to having a whole family with delta and being a shit but their shit

A lot of people sleep on GW 1 but I felt it was the best for Delta squad moments and the atmosphere, I would say dark but GW2 has darker moments but less gritty atmosphere.
