Yeah, Myrrah is 100% pure evil. Whatever redeeming qualities she had are gone. Her care for her daughter, gone when she stole her daughter's body to use as her own. And I do not believe her care for the Locust is genuine, as we never see her saddened by their deaths. She seems to only care about getting revenge against the Serrans and she actively enables the sheer cruelty of the Locust Horde.
I would say she cares for the Locust, but she is truly evil when it comes to her perspective on humanity! Her refusal to even try to find peace with humanity or make an alliance against the Lambent is a huge factor in that!
@@CarmineForeverdidn’t Myrrah keep Marcus father alive so he could find a way to kill the virus without also killing the locust? Myrrah could have destroyed the machine and killed Marcus father long before Marcus and squad arrive dooming humanity and the locust to extinction out of spite. (That shows she’s cares about the locust more than her hatred for humans) From Myrrah perspective had the virus not continued to mutate the locust, she and the locust would have remained underground. (Still a egomaniac, but no war crimes against humanity)
@@robbie5545 You are right, she did care about the Locust and always fought towards their freedom and survival! Without the Lambent I think things would have turned out different but around the same story. I think she and the Locust would have remained underground for longer, but eventually they would have attacked the surface world! It always has given me "cold war" vibes where both sides think the other is going to attack first and the tension would eventually rise enough to where one actually would!
Imagine RAAM in the final Boss fight in Gears of War 1 he just falls through the floor of the cart due to how heavy he is, Especially if he is able to lift up Kim with his full armor on. Idk I just thought it was funny
I enjoyed villains where you can't relate to, nor plays devil advocate for them. Especially when they did it extremely well and they're entertaining for the viewers.
Skorge got done dirty IMO. RAAM was that much of a weapon, that EPIC had to try and hammer home how much of a badass Skorge is by having Marcus spell it out for the audience "He made RAAM look like a pushover". Unfortunately we all know he didn't. But there was potential there. But big points to Skorge regardless when it comes to design and introducing the Kantus contingent of The Horde. Also him and RAAM's brotherhood in the comics is really great stuff. Just a shame he wasn't utilized well enough in Gears 2 😢
It's truly a tragedy of the massive success of the first game! They needed an awesome, badass villain for our heroes to bring down and the game blew up so they needed to make that magic happen again! Tough to do that AND give that new villain a solid place to fit in the story, so all things considered they did good! But it still sucks that we lost Skorge so soon, his story and design are absolutely 🔥🔥 Hopefully future games or media will give us even more of him and RAAM!
@CarmineForever E-day has potential to introduce a lower ranking big dog of the horde come to think of it. Kinda like Karn. But at the same time, a locust big bad wouldn't be entirely necessary. Because The Horde in E-Day themselves, will be a bigger threat than we've ever seen in a Gears game. P.S. Justice for Skorge
@@Haydon.F. Definitely agree that it wouldn't be necessary, especially because I think it would be cool if our 'victory' at the end of the game, is simply escaping the city alive! If they did introduce someone new, they could make them both badass and survive the encounter if they wanted and save them for a later date! On E-Day, you're right, just the horde themselves is terrifying enough to fill the game!
@CarmineForever oh man that is a solid shout for a closing sequence. To build the feeling of pure futility throughout the game till the very end. And to close on a bittersweet as hell note. We know we'll win eventually. But it'll take 15 years of hell to get there. Man, E-day has the potential to be one of the best prequels ever. Haven't felt excitement like this in a long time
@@Haydon.F. Saaammmeee, I haven't been antsy about getting a new game in a long long time! Especially since we haven't had a proper Gears game since 2019, 5 whole years...I need a new kick lol
I literally get so pumped when I see you made a new video, I've been following gears since I first played it when I was 10-11 and you reading the comics and doing videos like this make me love it so much more, your voice and personality reminds me of the Carmine's too, keep it up brother
Thanks a bunch, that really means a lot to me! I hope to put out higher quality stuff like this moving forward so I hope to get meeting/exceeding expectations! 🙌 I hope E-Day brings a resurgence to the franchise cause I've been playing since around that age too and this game deserves such a bigger spotlight in the gaming world! Despite all the disadvantages, its still been around for just over 18 years!
I don't have a rock solid reason as to why, but my favorite villain has always been Uzil Sraak ever since I learned about him. Such a menacing and intimidating design
He was such a surprise character as we always thought RAAM was in charge the whole time but to find out there was someone bigger and meaner was fucking awesome! Let alone his place in the overall story of the Locust and RAAM's rise!
@@TheN7Spartan I just got into gears of war Series A month ago and i finished all 3 og games On my series x And now i just started gears judgment i am amazed by the graphics Of these games Gears 1 2 and 3 all look advanced for their era like it was released a few years later then it actuely did I mean gears 1 looks like a late 2000s 2008-2009 game while it was released in the mid 2000s And gears 2 looks like a game released in the early 2010s 2011 -2012 And three looks like it was released in like late 2013 or even early 2014 Game
great in-depth video man! thanks for clearing up a lot of the questions i had about queen renya as like you said, she's definitely the most complex of the bunch given her connect to myrrahs consciousness.
Queen Myrrah. Her voice in the Gears 1 and 2 set the stage for Gears 3. Back when cliffhangers were YEARS apart. That just accentuated Queen Myrrah as the Ultimate Villain. The later Gears games were rapidly released too close together to give any other villains time to "stew".
I wish the new trilogy and games in general, would focus more on THE villain of their franchise and games! Myrrah had 3 entire games to build up and showcase her story in the original series which just isn't something we see much anymore!
There was nothing more disturbing/scary than when I played Gears for the first time in 2005 and it cuts to the scene where RAAM butchers Kim… it made the game fear more like a horror movie than a war/shooter game. I really hope they come out with a RAAM/Skorge uprising DLC for whenever they took out Sraak and took over the hord.
Gears 2 with the scary ass building with the wretches after killing the worm scared me so much as a kid that I skipped that section for the longest time on replays
This was an incredible breakdown that taught me so much about some of my favorite characters that I play with all the time! Very helpful for those of us that mainly play MP but also got a soft spot for the lore. Thanks
Something that always made me feel off about Myra was about how different she looked from gears two to three. Because in two she looked really malnourished or skinny. It might've been her dress or what she was wearing but it gave me the impression that she was the spine of the locust which honestly is a cool way to symbolize the queen of the locusts compared to the swarm. She didn't control the swarm ourright, but rather she gave them confidence, guidance in how to move and in return she was honored, cared for and given the responsibility to rule. It's actually pretty cool. Still find her GOW2 and 3 iterations and designs pretty separate though.
Also hearing about the scions I kinda wish that some future gears of wars comics or maybe even a game from a locust perspective show us how the dependency on the hive mind has basically killed their past culture and the tragedy behind it. Perhaps a page or two showing a swarm drone looking at the faith of the three worms and their processes and instruments before grabbing and then melting them for scrap. Taking apart everything that was delicate and beautiful to the locusts and stripping it bare of decoration making churches into dens and sleeping quarters. There's definitely something in that, even if the locusts are monsters, their cultures and faiths should at least be archived for future people to discover and learn about.
Her palace garment design from Gears 2 was always really cool to me! I never saw her as malnourished but that's an interesting look at it! Though, I am in love with her battle armor design from Gears 3 and 5, it's just badass in every way!
I absolutely would love if they gave us more insight on the Locust and Swarm culture and motives! Rise of RAAM is one of their best comics and it is all about that so I hope they have plans to give us more in the future! Maybe show the lifespan and difference of a regular Locust drone becoming a Swarm drone. Or what was going on in their minds over the 25 years they were inside their Imulsion crystal shells!
@@CarmineForever the armor and indeed gears of war as a whole takes a lot of inspiration from EPIC's other title, Unreal Tournament 3. In fact, the main character is almost a carbon copy of marcus with a little sprinkle of dom. The Queen's armor is heavily inspired from the Necris, and Akasha in particular.
Thanks so much!! I'm a relatively new channel so the fact that I have any subs is still surprising 😅 I am happy you are enjoying the videos though, thanks for watching!!
I don't call her "Queen Reyna", it's still likely Myrrah, or Reyna is corrupted. Reyna may have been hard at times but she loved and cared for Kait and everyone, she'd never do these horrible things.
Raam was the coolest villain in my opinion and that cutscene were he’s introduced is probably one of my top 4 favorite bits in gears of war behind the Cole train cutscene in gears 3 and operation hollow storm cutscene in gears 2, and don’t forget the endingin gears 3! That was an amazing conclusion i
His entrance and entire presence in the first game is what cemented my love for this franchise! As a kid I remember being terrified and mesmerized by how scary badass he was! Especially with the upgrades in Ultimate Edition, I have to stop myself from only ever using his cutscenes in my videos lol
Raam is my favourite villain. Also for The Speaker (if i remember well and maybe it was a bad translation because I'm French so I mostly play the French version of Gears of War and watch French gameplay videos) in a moment he says to Kait that she can't find her mother without him. But with Marcus who was connected to the hivemind when he was captured by the snatcher, the squad could find Reyna easily. And I think, maybe for longer gameplay purposes, that the coalition could do something with that sentence. I thought of two situations, the first one being The Speaker who managed to escape after his swarmak was killed, the squad go to where Marcus said Reyna was but can't find her, so final boss fight with him being somehow stronger and in the end before being killed, he reveals where Reyna is. And the second situation I thought of is kinda similar but a bit borring I think : so in this situation, The Speaker is killed, like in the game, the squad don't find Reyna where she's supposed to be, but since all sions are connected, they decide to capture another one (maybe a boss fight to manage to do so), and in the end they find her. Let me know what you think. Oh and pardon me if I made some mistakes when writting, like I said I'm French so I'm not really used to write a lot in English.
A very cool concept! I actually think your idea would be cool for Gears of War 6 and possibly a likely outcome! I think Baird will have something to do with defeating the Swarm via connecting either Kait to it or some device that could disrupt it! We did see something similar to this in Gears 5 with Jack being able to 'override' the hivemind connection. And with the power of the hivemind, this certainly has to be their route to ending the Swarm war! But I think it would be cool for The Speaker to return once again and be used by the COG to defeat the Swarm! Nah no sweat, your paragraph made perfect sense!
Imagine after gears 6 comes out they make a version of the locust stories throughout the wars and all of epic battles they’ve had going from underground to taking over Jacinto I think that would be one beautiful campaign and just something new for gears lol
An anthology game or story DLCs would be such a cool thing for Gears of War to explore! We have so many unexplored years of the Pendulum and Locust Wars PLUS we could also get Locust and UIR POVs!
when you were talking about the new hope research facility the topic of the miners came up and you said miners with a E. I laughed so hard due to the fact that a on going DND campaign me and some friends have been playing for about 2 years now, has a mining town and we always referred to the miners in the same way! That comment alone has made my day!! Thank you good Sir!
There was a lot of hidden mysteries and lore about Myrrah that gave hints of her rather tragic life growing up as an experiment with her fellow locusts before they escaped and formed their kingdom, but throughout the games, she has always been a hypocrite that let the past define her to the point that we see her remaining redeemable qualities slowly die in each sequel to the point her human form is literally gone.
I'm wondering if we'll get another villain/boss in E-Day or if it will just focus on the Horde itself. It makes for a pretty intimidating force on its own, but there's one character in the Raam comics I would like to see expanded on; Jermad. He's a cyclops sniper who Raam appoints to be his captain, so obviously he must be pretty impressive to be in the high general's personal favor.
I have a feeling we'll get a minor villain come E-Day, Jermad does come to mind when I think about it! Playing against a Locust sniper would be an insanely cool concept! Even if not him, I would expect to see someone play the villain role, someone big enough that they would be in charge of taking Kalona city!
I always thought it was a cool origin story that emphasizes the "endless cycle of warfare for humanity"! They constantly make their own problems that keeps war going non-stop! They try to solve the energy crisis -> war. They try make a weapon to end that war -> Hammer of Dawn Strikes kill 90% of humans. The fuel fought for in the war -> parasite. Try to cure a disease -> Locust 😅 Humanity is its own biggest nightmare in this universe lol
agree with you there. the locust always had a more alien and somewhat old ancient look to them. them being just a lab creation by humans kinda makes them feel far less scary. always also liked the idea of there being 2 intelligent species evolving and advancing on the same world without ever really knowing or caring about each other wich is how i thought it was when i played gears. locust knowing about humans but never really giving a damn until humanity started drilling for immulsion. like a monster under the bed
I hate the trope of 'evil science experiment gone wrong'. Loved the idea they were always around just like another commenter mentioned. I also disliked the generic infected lambent. Stick with the Locust and keep building them up more and more. They went full generic plot introducing an even worse third faction. IMO they should have kept the Locust as low tech alternatives to the cogs. Make them use beasts, catapults, old artillery, more melee focused and WW2 maybe even WW1 era weapons. Let the COG stay modern day but perhaps make it more diesel focused with everything requiring fuel and oil and there's smog and smoke everywhere. Killing off the Kryll was a mistake too. They should have went further into the gothic hopeless horror vibe from the first game. Night/Day playing major roles.
He is probably my second favorite just behind Queen Myrrah! He was definitely one of the main reasons I got immersed into Gears as seeing him in the OG Gears of War 1 was insane!
I loved Karn and Shibboleth from judgment sm. Their designs were so badass. Second would have to be Skorge. The idea of a stick with two chainsaws at the end is so bizarre.
Nah, their only crimes are not looking pretty and opposing the playable characters. The COG leadership is probably even more morally corrupt than the Locust's one. And remember that Locust was created by exposing humans to unsafe levels on emulsion, so COG is even responsible for their creation. They Locust are not villains, they are just the enemy of the playable characters.
Not a bad take actually. The games go out of their way, and even further in the books, to show that the cog is despicable. This sets morals to the side to tell a more pure story of survival which I really dig personally. Also genocide begets genocide or something idk
Thing is too what happened to Myrrah as a child and the rest of the children already showed her Humanity were horrible if they could do this to children there was nothing they wouldn't do. And telling Myrrah her child was dead was a bad move. Us humans don't react well to hearing any children die let alone ours. Her speech at the end of Gears 2 implied something bad happened to her even before we learned of her having a child. Your world can end in the blink of an eye one unexpected twist of fate and the world as you knew it is gone forever. Life is cruel for this I have no doubt buy life continues on with or without you.
8:40 Bit of an inconsistency to say she stopped internal fighting among the locust using her hivemind, but to suggest two minutes later she didn't use her hivemind ability to allow the locust to retain their freedom. Which is it?
That true, it is a bit inconsistent, but sometimes its required when trying to build a society and especially fight in wars! She wasn't controlling them 24/7, but if one was holding them back for any reason, she could "nudge" them in the right direction! One example was the coup RAAM committed against the former High General (Uzil) Sraak! She knew Sraak was a bad fit to lead the Locust but needed to find a proper leader so she tested RAAM by implanting ideas in his head. RAAM then acted on it to overthrow Sraak and become the new leader of the army! This nudge was against free will for the most part, but she did not completely control him from then on it!
I really dont like that Gears 4 made it so that the locust were made by people. They seem more ancient and i always felt like they developed along side the surface dwellers...
That lore actually comes from Gears of War 2 when we explore the New Hope Research Facility! Gears 5 adds onto it more by adding the Mount Kadar section but GoW 2 cemented it!
I am going to say something controversial. I thank the swarm as a concept it more scary then the Locust. I love, how they just evolved and adapted to survive, From normal humans infected with rust lung, to Sires, to Locust, to the Swarm. A nightmare Humanity created, one that will haunt them for ever.
A hot take, but not from me! I think the Swarm conceptually are pretty terrifying, kidnapping humans and encapsulating them into organic pods that metamorphize them into pawns to be controlled...yuck
One thing that always bothered me was the ending of Gears of War 1, now I know that the train is scripted to keep running until you kill RAAM and then you discover that 30 seconds from that point you were actually heading towards the end of the line with the train plunging into the emulsion. So does that mean that if we didn't get the chance to get up to the front of the train he would have just plummeted into the emulsion with the train? Especially as we know that he speeds the train up? A part of me was actually kind of hoping that even though we killed him the Emulsion parasite would somehow find a way to reanimate him, a Lambant RAAM would be horrifying
In my head canon, RAAM would have just jumped off the train before it got to the end! The missiles were useless until Marcus inserted the tunnel data into them so if they plunged into the Imulsion lake before they could reach it, then the Locust would have won that battle! A Lambent RAAM would have been so damn cool! And I can't even imagine what kind of monstrosity he would turn into too 💀
I absolutely disagree about the cutscene with Raam and Kim. The remake was cheesy, Raam grabbing the chainsaw was silly. And in the remake Raam doesn't point at Kim. That pointing from Raam established that the two had a history, this was personal. Then you see why it was so personal in the dlc chapter " Raam's shadow ". The original was better and so was the original final cutscene.
I mean to each their own! I always say RAAM grabbing the chainsaw as one of the most badass things in the franchise and a nod "RAAM's Shadow DLC" since Alicia tried to chainsaw him and failed as well! Also the way Kim spits his blood on RAAM felt even more personal to me, one last annoyance in their rivalry before it ended! I don't find it cheesy in the slightest but that's just me, I loved it!
Locusts were not created by humans in the original storyline. That only happened in the redirection of gears 4 when Cliff was no longer in control of production. Cliff had them designed as an ancient species. This is why the history of the Locust is rich and deep up until the story of 4, then all of the sudden, the details start to conflict and no longer make sense. This is where I stop the video and leave.
@@mahnsturlanius101 it was actually set in lore that humans created the Locust ever since Gears of War 2 when Epic Studios (including Cliffy B) were in control of the franchise! The New Hope Research Facility we venture off to was where the predecessors (The Sires) were created and taken to Mount Kadar where they became the Locust! Mount Kadar was also right above their capital city of Nexus. So The Coalition studios in Gears of War 4 and 5 are simply expanding upon the already established canon set by the OG trilogy!
@CarmineForever The origins of the Locust are a mystery, although they existed long before the Pendulum Wars. In the history of the Nation of Tyrus, there are stories and legends of creatures stealing disobedient children, which are likely based on some truthful aspects. During Operation Hollow Storm, Delta-One was sent to New Hope Research Facility and discovered that during the Pendulum Wars the COG created 'the genetic bridge to the future' known as the Sires as well as another group of subjects only referenced to as children. There is an unknown link between the Locust regarding New Hope, in particular regarding Mount Kadar. The occupants of New Hope were sent to Mount Kadar, where many years later, Delta-One would find the entrance to the Nexus. Thus, it is possible that the occupants encountered the Locust here, which triggered the events that culminated in Emergence Day. Other alternate theories are suggested by the remaining human population. One such example is that the Locust came from a neighboring planet (or one of its moons) and feed off Imulsion. However, rumors such as these are generally regarded as false.
I’d love a game where we can choose to be the hero or villain, but we it’s not a narrative based game like fable games where choices on conversation options affects outcomes. A game similar to an open worldish but like prototype vibes, where we have powers but the more death and destruction we reap, the more the population hates us to the point of hunting us down, or protect them to be the hero.
In a certain way yes! The Sires were the predecessors and were used in the process to perfecting the Locust, so it would be a safe analogy to call the Locust their children!
Just a heads up but decimate means to reduce by ten percent, as in the meaning of "deci", and is usually horrifying because it's used on one's own ranks not the enemy.
Gonna spout some heresy here, but as I learned more and more about the Locust, I felt sorry for them. I always kind of wished that Myrrah had tried diplomacy and the humans and Locust could coexist. Of course, it would never happen, Myrrah was too damaged by her treatment at New Hope and Kadar, and the COG are a bunch of imperialistic asshats, but I still find myself thinking about what could have been under better circumstances.
I thought he had way more potential than they gave him! They could have at least tried to give us the perspective of how a Locust mind vs a Swarm mind works differently through him somehow!
@@CarmineForever they still can do something like that since the swarm his a hive a scene here he says the swarm cannot be defeated since every loss a new strategy is made so that loss never happens again and that no knowledge is lost since every drone knows what everyone knows
Aight. . . . .show of hands. Who TF actually understood that the revived Reyna was actually Myrrah based soley on the information the game gives you? Idk, maybe it's just been that long since I've played it.
I will not lie, I did not get it the first time around 😅 it was a bit of a mystery you had to connect to actually get it and it took me the 2nd-3rd time around to realize it!
That's one of the beauties of the Locust hivemind and them solely focusing on building their population and society! No war, no internal conflict, just prosperity! Plus they had Ukkon, the greatest geneticist on the planet to increase their numbers exponentially!
Obviously if what I am about to suggest, had happened, the games would not have happened. I am also not well versed on the lore so I probably will make mistakes. But hearing that Raam's idea was to take the resources from the surface to help in the fight against the lambent is kind of odd. If there was no interaction between locusts and humans before then it makes no sense to just go to war to take the resources. It would have been far more logical to go to the surface peacefully and attempt to become allies with the humans by showing genuine goodwill and asking for help against the lambent and then allowing both groups to combine against the lambent. And if humanity rejected the peace and attacked the locust instead then it would be okay to go to war like the original idea.
In my eyes the more I look into it, it becomes a lot less likely of an outcome to find a peaceful solution! Myrrah and the Locust despised humanity already as they created them through horrific experiments, torture, and imprisonment. Plus humanity is very war-prone in this universe, almost being in constant warfare for nearly thousands of years! So had RAAM and/or Myrrah announced themselves to the world, they would lose their element of surprise which was their biggest pro when starting the war! It would be cool to see a "what if" scenario where we get to see how it would have played out if they tried the peaceful way! I think if they did work together, they would have gone to war anyways because this universe is crazy 😅
Mr.carmine-forever, do you think you can do a video on COG/UIR/humanities wmd capabilities? Specifically on nuclear weapons, I find it weird that nukes weren’t used during the locust war, the COG would use the hammer of dawn to destroy cites, is it simply that it was better to use? Did the COG even have nukes? Did they think in the long term that using a nuclear weapon would be more harmful than good compared to the hammer because of radiation?
Great idea, I will put that on my list for the future, thanks! I believe they had small nuclear missiles, but nothing like we imagine them today or what we had during WW2. The Hammer of Dawn just became the default really because of how powerful it was! You had basically a mobile nuke laser that could target specific coordinates, so anytime a satellite was overhead, you had the advantage always! They also had some Lightmass Missiles that were closer to nukes and drew power depending on how much Imulsion was in the area!
The Ultimate edition of Gears 1 on Microsoft store doesnt even work it just showd a black screen when clicking on play ive tried everything. But 4 years ago it worked fine on my older Intel 2600k 7950 3GB rig but my RYZEN 5600 RX6600 it just wont work
I always thought that locust were just an older species that lived on earth long before us before being forced underground... You are telling me that this whole time they were made by humans (I like my old theory better)
He wasn't the *first* to create them, no, that would be Niles and the other scientists at Mount Kadar! But, it is reasonable to assume that he continued creating Berserkers down in the Hollows after the Locust escaped. So he created them, just not the first time!
Funny, another enemy species to humanity that has a hive mind and a bad guy called "The Speaker" is Star Treks The Borg. When they assimilate Picard and use him to talk to The Federation, unlike the number names the borgs have (like 7 of 9) they call him "locutus" which is Latin for "One who Speaks" (roughly). It's a term still used in debate, law and politics one "interLOCKUTER" is the person one speaks against. Wonder if it's a deliberate message. I played gears a bunch as a kid but haven't in like 15 years and know nothing of the behind the scenes, so I. May be completely wrong.
Ok i don't know if you see this because i can't comment on shorts for some reason but if you do. What was the thing that kim thought was the resonator.
That's weird that you can't comment on Shorts but you can here, wtf RUclips 😂 I believe that was some sort of data storage device as it is almost identical to the one we see Baird hacking into later on in the story! In that device we see data on the Locust Hollows, but I would bet it could hold all sorts of data!
Is this seriously how I'm learning that the Locust were just mutated humans? I thought they were a subterranean alien species who were rising up against the humans who colonized their planet.
Nigel was talking about the gamers also. " will ... they ... listen ? ". If you pay attention to Mt. Kadar in part 2 and you read the notes you find it's easy to figure out.
imma be real every gears after judgment or even 3 is kinda just fan fic. no one can really deny the theme and general story telling drastically changed from 3 to judgment and even judgment to 4 and 5. its not really even the same to me its like 2 different stories, the previous gears were more in depth with the actual war aspect and tactics and strategy with the overall technology advancements, the newer gears are really just new plot points to drive the plot more for the sake of the story. No one really actually cared about reyna and how she could be in the hive mind etc etc, the meat of the story was in what strategies to hit weakpoints or infiltrate the locusts or lambent to take them down or take a leader or a strategic area or piece down was the main plot drivers, not whatever dreams reyna is having or what the whole reyna arc is. (if it was so good they wouldnt have to bring myrrah back because its a familiar and well like villain, its a common business practice to ensure player retention and sales.) all in all the story for the first 3 were simply more grounded in warfare and general real objectives than dream chasing and conscious swapping.
While I do agree with you that the plot points of Gears of War 4 and 5 could have been stronger, I always say that its important to look at where we are at in the war! The OG trilogy took place 14 years after the war had begun so they had a lot more room to work with and set up mysteries! The new trilogy focused more on the beginning of the war and new characters dealing with that. I think that's what the story should have focused on more was these characters going through hell and changing into entirely new people on the other side! JD kind of got that in Gears 5, but Del and Kait are roughly the same! Gears of War 4 IMO is a really good game, I think the story was super solid but the dialogue was "meh". Gears 5 still had rough dialogue to go through and a broken up story, but individually I liked the ideas. I enjoy the new Swarm era a lot, I think it was a cool continuation of the story BUT they really need to bring back the weight and desperation of it all! The main trio should be scared kids who turn into badasses!
@@CarmineForever im not really critiquing the swarm or the new aspects of the game fundamentally. im critical of the path of the new storyline being ungrounded in real objectives of destroying key tactical and strategic positions and leaders, i mean the game is gears of WAR not gears of mommy issues and conscious swapping, the swarm is a great idea and how they came back etc but theres a reason they are going back to the roots of E day to get back to the grounded and familiar key objective game. look i really wish i could give newer gears games a good light but the proof is in the pudding, the business decisions of the company reflect that. as much as i love gears theres gotta be an element of truth in looking at the future of gears.
@@yeeter7090 No doubt! I won't lie, a more war aspect would have been amazing and a great way to continue the franchise! Somehow it feels like we are the only squad plus robots actually fighting this war, which is a real shame because the larger war and armies is what made Gears of War 2 and 3 so fascinating! I just hope The Coalition come to realize that while a classic story is fine, Gears needs that out-of-this-world POP to it that makes it stand out! Big battles, large enemies and variety, weapons and all that! Hopefully E-Day can help guide them in that direction!
yeah even something resembling the big rig with (dizzys betty) leading into the intro of skorge or city fighting from gears 1 and 2 if they get those themes down of the sheer scale of the war and conflict will absolutely be a guaranteed banger! i really hope E day drives these aspects of war home. absolute pleasure btw having an indepth discussion on a world that has been near and dear to my heart playing gears 1 and 2 with my dad since i was 8 yrs old. thank you!
@@yeeter7090 Always happy to speak about Gears with fellow fans of the franchise! We all want the next game to be a massive success and capture the glory the franchise has to offer! Thanks for watching the video and leaving your thoughts! 🙌
I wish did better writing for gear of War 4 .I have some ideas would work made for much more interesting story for 4 and 5 .Like what if it was COG goverment that wiping out independent communities that did not been the knee.what if the COG once more continued some Experiments with Swarm , Locus &maybe the samples of Lambaint .This would explain continued war with Humanity both try destroy Lambaint threat once and for all and avenge against experiments done to them . Mother Love and Wraith: Now Myrrah was good leader to Locus insure their prosperity before Lambaint wars and she would like been loving Mother to her Daughter .It was take of her daughter lead to Revolt at labs and her become fully Queen of the Horde .Does make sense to me that She would be so heartless like Scientist that had experimented on her to her own daughter who was a Strong good women and leader of own Community .I would think that Myrrah would have been Proud of her daughter and happy for Raina survived and became a Strong Leader of own Community .Would made more sense if Swarm only partially inflaunce by Eco's of Myrrah ,some by integrated mind of those became new Members of the Swarm .So make more sense that Myrrah would try more civil approach with her child and grandchild . What if the COG had attacked Second time lead deaths of many community and to Raina being badily hurt .Myrrah Eco's and Hive Mind try heal her daughter out Love and Swarm out Desperation for New Queen turning Raina . The Intergrated: what if some Member hive were humans that willingly became such .this add some more personality and possible interesting leadership for the Swarm Divided and Broken Mind: When Kate severs her mother form Flesh of Hive mass and kills her .Raina Mental state is result of Multiple factors One her own trauma ,grief and rage loss of her Community she in charge of at hands of the COG ,Psychic Feedback form Hivemind of swarm ,backlash of Kate severing her self form Hivemind Result in Swarm being Desperate reviving her Raina do prolong time death like leading to brain damage and atrophy resulting in Swarm use Eco's of Myrrah ,some other member Swarm personalities and remains of Raina Personality into patchwork attempt to Save Raina and create a new Queen .This Resulting in the Violent ,Unstable ,Cruel Personality shift of Raina . Possible gear 6: our heroes find true events of what happened so try to save and heal Raina , Stop Corrupt elements within COG and maybe Kate become Meditator between the Swarm and Humanity .Hell if some Member of Swarm were past member of Raina Community would make battle for Kate and other More personal .This would bring rather interest moral choices and such for the game .Also better character development for Kate .
What about lambert they were second antagonist the second enemy for cog and main real threat they are more worse than locusts can you talk about them next
I do have plans to make a video on them! It's tough to consider them a 'villain' per say since they are more a 'force of nature' in my opinion! It's tough to decide!
@@FrankyTorres-h7t I'd say, they are a threat, but I personally villains pertain more to an individual with a clear goal and personality! But I do have a video planned for the Lambent for the future!
Good question! It is one theory in the universe that Kantus (Skorge's species) is immune to the parasite and negative Imulsion affects! It could also be the case that they just have a higher tolerance but neither has been officially confirmed!
The Gears of War trilogy under 'The Coalition Studio' which is Gears of War 4, Gears 5, and the future final game Gears of War 6 (whenever it comes out)!
I still think they brought some good to the franchise, though I hate how they divided up the community. Here's hoping E-Day brings back the old and brings in the new!
The cog are nazi's. The UIR are soviets (Stalin had more death camps than Hitler and had more people executed than Hitler, he was more evil than Hitler). The only faction that is slightly good are the stranded which are raiders that rape and pillage to survive
That is the power of having the greatest geneticist scientist ever seen on the planet and a hivemind making every single individual working towards prosperity!
@@EmperorsInquisitor well they do have some sci-fi methods that drastically improve their population size and strength! Firstly, we aren't sure exactly how they reproduce and how many pop out at once via Berserkers (females). But we do know that they can create Berserkers in labs so they can continuously make new and more reproducers! They also were able to take kidnapped humans and turn them into Drones which they did for many years prior to E-Day, possibly hundreds of thousands of humans or more! They also had the Locust scientist named Ukkon, that was the top geneticist on the planet that created all the large creatures/monsters/beasts the Locust used to build up their society and armies!
@@CarmineForever So, a lady has been in an experiment about creating mutants; lost her child to the scientists, didn't believe in the story they have told her and decided to rebel over it, but instead of going to look for her child she decided to escape into a cave somehwere, build a huge army and kill everyone out on the surface, including her child. So does she care about her child or not? The same woman and mutants are having a problem with mutants of their own and their solution to it is to go and start yet another war with a peer power while already losing on the homefront, all because the surface somehow has more resources even though all of the surface's resources except soil and water have to be extracted from underground. The swarm evolves when under harsh conditions and somehow evolved to be dependant on one family of women for their hivemind that already exists and functions just fine without them. None of this makes any sense.
Not gonna lie, I know Myrrah is irredeemable evil but fuck, when I was a teenager I was down bad for her and Im still am to some extent.
😂
I understand 😅😅😂😂
What the fucj
opposition or not shes BHAD😮💨
Get a room 😂
(That shows she’s cares about the locust more than her hatred for humans)
From Myrrah perspective had the virus not continued to mutate the locust, she and the locust would have remained underground.
This comment reminding me about The Coalition's retcons and stories is painful
i mean the only thing she saw and learned from humanity is cruelty so its probably a revenge thing
Imagine RAAM in the final Boss fight in Gears of War 1 he just falls through the floor of the cart due to how heavy he is, Especially if he is able to lift up Kim with his full armor on. Idk I just thought it was funny
Damn, falling through the train and getting ran over by it would be a tragic way to go 😂
That’s some sfm/machinima level comedy right there.
Yep he was awesome
Dude the gears of war trains could handle a berserker ... And she's bigger and bulkier than him .
I enjoyed villains where you can't relate to, nor plays devil advocate for them. Especially when they did it extremely well and they're entertaining for the viewers.
Always fun to get someone where its just like...shit...they're like EVIL evil haha
Like good old Big Jack Horner.
But it still sucks that we lost Skorge so soon, his story and design are absolutely 🔥🔥
Hopefully future games or media will give us even more of him and RAAM!
Raam gives me nostalgia. (The series ended at 3, the other games didn’t happen)
I hope E-Day brings a resurgence to the franchise cause I've been playing since around that age too and this game deserves such a bigger spotlight in the gaming world!
Bro I’ve played all games but I love this channel because I always learn something new about the lore! Love the channel CFE!!!!

I’m starving for Gears of War E Day
Praying everyday for news, I need it 🙏
We all are. But what we’re really starved of is a good Gears of War game since 3 was the last spectacular one
@@TheN7Spartan
I just got into gears of war
Series
A month ago and i finished all 3 og games
On my series x
And now i just started gears judgment i am amazed by the graphics
Of these games
Gears 1 2 and 3 all look advanced for their era like it was released a few years later then it actuely did
I mean gears 1 looks like a late 2000s 2008-2009 game while it was released in the mid 2000s
And gears 2 looks like a game released in the early 2010s 2011 -2012
And three looks like it was released in like late 2013 or even early 2014
Game
@ Yeah that’s how good the classic Gears of War games are :)
They are going to push some stupid agenda and blame us for not buying it. Guaranteed.
great in-depth video man! thanks for clearing up a lot of the questions i had about queen renya as like you said, she's definitely the most complex of the bunch given her connect to myrrahs consciousness.
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
That whole sequence is nightmare fuel for kids and lives vividly in my mind to this day! Just the creepy cuts and how deformed RAAM is...god damn!
Gears 2 with the scary ass building with the wretches after killing the worm scared me so much as a kid that I skipped that section for the longest time on replays
These are such high quality videos! So glad the algorithm allowed me to find you!
Thank you kindly! I really appreciate it!
This was an incredible breakdown that taught me so much about some of my favorite characters that I play with all the time! Very helpful for those of us that mainly play MP but also got a soft spot for the lore. Thanks
Thanks so much for watching! 🙌 who do you usually play as for both sides?

Love your channel and the effort you put into these informative vids!! I love gears of war and learn a lot from your content
Thanks a ton, I really appreciate that! Always happy to talk about my favorite franchise and spread its glorious story! 🙌
I don't call her "Queen Reyna", it's still likely Myrrah, or Reyna is corrupted. Reyna may have been hard at times but she loved and cared for Kait and everyone, she'd never do these horrible things.
That is definitely true! Reyna asked for death before becoming the Swarm's puppet so its definitely not her in there!
@ yeah they gave the intro a upgrade in ultimate edition
Warfare tip #9 starting a two front war is usually a bad idea.
*takes notes*
@@CarmineForever Thanks, I'm happy to know you liked my idea 😁
Damn Gears of War is Dark. Like “The Sins of The Father” thing they got going strong
Undoubtedly! The world is truly in a cycle of non-stop violence, each generation making the same or worse mistakes as the last
Imagine after gears 6 comes out they make a version of the locust stories throughout the wars and all of epic battles they’ve had going from underground to taking over Jacinto I think that would be one beautiful campaign and just something new for gears lol
An anthology game or story DLCs would be such a cool thing for Gears of War to explore! We have so many unexplored years of the Pendulum and Locust Wars PLUS we could also get Locust and UIR POVs!
That sounds perfect for a spin off.
Gears of War: Wars
when you were talking about the new hope research facility the topic of the miners came up and you said miners with a E. I laughed so hard due to the fact that a on going DND campaign me and some friends have been playing for about 2 years now, has a mining town and we always referred to the miners in the same way! That comment alone has made my day!! Thank you good Sir!
Thats actually hilarious! 😂
Awesome video!
Thanks man, I appreciate that a lot! 🙏
You know what grinds my gears of war? The canon story of locust. They utterly destroyed any believability I have for the franchise.
Try to cure a disease -> Locust 😅
Humanity is its own biggest nightmare in this universe lol
agree with you there. the locust always had a more alien and somewhat old ancient look to them. them being just a lab creation by humans kinda makes them feel far less scary. always also liked the idea of there being 2 intelligent species evolving and advancing on the same world without ever really knowing or caring about each other wich is how i thought it was when i played gears. locust knowing about humans but never really giving a damn until humanity started drilling for immulsion. like a monster under the bed
Night/Day playing major roles.
but we always knew it was going to pan out that way?
I am new to your videos but i seen this and a with a new gears game coming i figured i'd check this out and it was worth it lol nice job
Thanks a ton! Yeah, I'm super hyped for E-Day so I hope they are cooking up something good over there for the next game!
Skorge is my favourite. I love his aesthetic and think Kantus's are very cool.
Kim had no chance with that lancer 🧐🤣 love gears 1-3 we need a Fenix collection remastered asap
thank you for that information, i havent played gears in forever my xbox broke so i didnt get to try the new story out
One of my favorite villain rosters of all time
Raam is the best and my favorite
He is probably my second favorite just behind Queen Myrrah! He was definitely one of the main reasons I got immersed into Gears as seeing him in the OG Gears of War 1 was insane!
I loved Karn and Shibboleth from judgment sm. Their designs were so badass. Second would have to be Skorge. The idea of a stick with two chainsaws at the end is so bizarre.
Shibboleth was always SO cool, I wish we got more up-close cutscenes showing off its badass design! 🔥

Bit of an inconsistency to say she stopped internal fighting among the locust using her hivemind, but to suggest two minutes later she didn't use her hivemind ability to allow the locust to retain their freedom.
I like all of them except for the last 2 especially raam he's my favorite but great vid
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Decimate means-destroy 10%
I think you meant annihilate
Well it also means "kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of"! But yeah either word, destroy a shit ton 😆
Definitely one of the most misused words of the past few years
I am going to say something controversial.
I think the Swarm conceptually are pretty terrifying, kidnapping humans and encapsulating them into organic pods that metamorphize them into pawns to be controlled...yuck
i remember walking through cities with people molded in ash in gow3, shit hit me in the feels
And I can't even imagine what kind of monstrosity he would turn into too 💀
I love how no one talks about Myra's character change from gears 2 to 3 looks so much better in two
I do not play gears but what I have learned from your video is: seatbelts. So many bosses were thrown from their vehicle/mount unnecessarily.
Absolutely 😂 I honestly thought about putting in a counter just for them being thrown off of shit lol 😅
You forgot one the coalition

@@roguespectredelta1951Just ignore them.
@@roguespectredelta1951 I got to make a comment somehow
Is the locust children of the sires
In a certain way yes! The Sires were the predecessors and were used in the process to perfecting the Locust, so it would be a safe analogy to call the Locust their children!
Just a heads up but decimate means to reduce by ten percent, as in the meaning of "deci", and is usually horrifying because it's used on one's own ranks not the enemy.
That's the main historical def, but I was using the modern def of "kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of."!

Why is it always Vault-Tec that screws everyone over?
😂
Gonna spout some heresy here, but as I learned more and more about the Locust, I felt sorry for them. I always kind of wished that Myrrah had tried diplomacy and the humans and Locust could coexist.
Of course, it would never happen, Myrrah was too damaged by her treatment at New Hope and Kadar, and the COG are a bunch of imperialistic asshats, but I still find myself thinking about what could have been under better circumstances.
I wish speaker had more screen time I really liked him
I thought he had way more potential than they gave him!
@pforpaulo1337 Very true! He is still around in the Swarm leading somewhere!
Dam if the villains were a little smart than they would have won.

Aight. . . . .show of hands.
@@CarmineForever i sure didn't. That just seems like such a MASSIVE plot point to drop the ball on explaining to the player.
@@CarmineForeverwhy do you fart in all your videos??
My problem is the timeline. For Myrrah to have the endless army that she did, the Locust would’ve had to be around for a hundred years at minimum.
That's one of the beauties of the Locust hivemind and them solely focusing on building their population and society! No war, no internal conflict, just prosperity! Plus they had Ukkon, the greatest geneticist on the planet to increase their numbers exponentially!
Imagine if all this was real, it would be scary ass hell
I think if they did work together, they would have gone to war anyways because this universe is crazy
😅

But 4 years ago it worked fine on my older Intel 2600k 7950 3GB rig but my RYZEN 5600 RX6600 it just wont work
Can you get to the home screen or does it just load up on a black screen? Sorry to hear that!
I always thought that locust were just an older species that lived on earth long before us before being forced underground... You are telling me that this whole time they were made by humans (I like my old theory better)
Did ukkon create the berserkers
He wasn't the *first* to create them, no, that would be Niles and the other scientists at Mount Kadar! But, it is reasonable to assume that he continued creating Berserkers down in the Hollows after the Locust escaped. So he created them, just not the first time!
@@CarmineForeverpee pee on da Gina
anyone else hoping gears of war e-day opens with the locust-lambent war as a playable section?
Fuck yeeessss 🔥🔥 that would be so damn cool!
Oh that's pretty interesting actually! I wouldn't be surprised if it was a reference to the Borg honestly, that would be a cool easter egg!
Oh my, yes I agree that thumbnail is pure evil, but I would anyway.
😂
You forgot Vrol😔
This time around I was just doing the main villains from the games! One day I will get around to doing every Locust character!
@CarmineForever ok👍
@CarmineForever thank you and it is very annoying i hope you have a good day.
Do a video on what if the locust were real in our world
It's on my list for sometime in the future!
imma be real every gears after judgment or even 3 is kinda just fan fic. no one can really deny the theme and general story telling drastically changed from 3 to judgment and even judgment to 4 and 5. its not really even the same to me its like 2 different stories, the previous gears were more in depth with the actual war aspect and tactics and strategy with the overall technology advancements, the newer gears are really just new plot points to drive the plot more for the sake of the story.
Mother Love and Wraith:
Now Myrrah was good leader to Locus insure their prosperity before Lambaint wars and she would like been loving Mother to her Daughter .It was take of her daughter lead to Revolt at labs and her become fully Queen of the Horde .Does make sense to me that She would be so heartless like Scientist that had experimented on her to her own daughter who was a Strong good women and leader of own Community .I would think that Myrrah would have been Proud of her daughter and happy for Raina survived and became a Strong Leader of own Community .Would made more sense if Swarm only partially inflaunce by Eco's of Myrrah ,some by integrated mind of those became new Members of the Swarm .So make more sense that Myrrah would try more civil approach with her child and grandchild .
What if the COG had attacked Second time lead deaths of many community and to Raina being badily hurt .Myrrah Eco's and Hive Mind try heal her daughter out Love and Swarm out Desperation for New Queen turning Raina .
The Intergrated:
what if some Member hive were humans that willingly became such .this add some more personality and possible interesting leadership for the Swarm
Divided and Broken Mind:
When Kate severs her mother form Flesh of Hive mass and kills her .Raina Mental state is result of Multiple factors One her own trauma ,grief and rage loss of her Community she in charge of at hands of the COG ,Psychic Feedback form Hivemind of swarm ,backlash of Kate severing her self form Hivemind Result in Swarm being Desperate reviving her Raina do prolong time death like leading to brain damage and atrophy resulting in Swarm use Eco's of Myrrah ,some other member Swarm personalities and remains of Raina Personality into patchwork attempt to Save Raina and create a new Queen .This Resulting in the Violent ,Unstable ,Cruel Personality shift of Raina .
Possible gear 6:
our heroes find true events of what happened so try to save and heal Raina , Stop Corrupt elements within COG and maybe Kate become Meditator between the Swarm and Humanity .Hell if some Member of Swarm were past member of Raina Community would make battle for Kate and other More personal .This would bring rather interest moral choices and such for the game .Also better character development for Kate .
What about lambert they were second antagonist the second enemy for cog and main real threat they are more worse than locusts can you talk about them next
I do have plans to make a video on them! It's tough to consider them a 'villain' per say since they are more a 'force of nature' in my opinion! It's tough to decide!

What about it did you find dumb?
