My favorite part of this is when Kait asks how did he get permission to live outside a settlement and the Del says "easy, who was going to tell him no" for me that perfectly sums up how badass Marcus Fenix is
dion woollaston I mean it’s later said how Anya was the chairwoman after the war so he basically was the husband of the COG leader, and this is anyas family state home, and both are decorated war heroes so yeah, they get leeway.

I wouldn't say retired, he just didn't agree with what the Cog had become after Anya died. Read the books, they really do cover so much ground between the games.

Fucking love this trope of one character misunderstanding the situation, and instead of interrupting them to spell out what they don't know, everyone else just says things that only reinforce their misunderstanding. It's totally not a forced and artificial way to extend conflict at all.
Marcus thinks JD is coming to him for help in escaping the COG.
JD: "Dad, we need your help. We were attacked and our friends were taken."
Non-dumbass JD: "Dad, we were attacked by monsters who took our friends. Do you think this looks like Locust?"
Jinn thinks JD and co. are committing seditious terrorist acts.
JD: "Jinn, listen, you have no idea what's actually happening here."
Non-dumbass JD: "Jinn, we were attacked by monsters who kidnapped our friends, they're the ones who attacked you."
Jinn thinks Marcus is aiding his son in sedition.
Jinn: "So we're clear, Sergeant. If you choose to aid these fugitives, I can't protect you."

Let me explain you as a nerdy man:
Imagine having a son who you did take care of, after the death of his mom/ your wife your relationship with him deteriorate and you didnt take care of him as much as you did then he wants to join the COG after every secret you know from the COG and the consequences of wanting to leave you knew it à life choice even if you survives alos to not join people who resist the COG to not make you a target, then he refuses to listen to you and cut ties with him.
Years later he came back while your peacefully drinking your wine, asking your help because everything your warned him of became true and because you knew you'll help him anyway, then he lies telling you thats its not the COG, after seing this crystal your sure its the locusts, but then to add to injurie you COG came to your house with an entire army ready to arrest him and destroy your house.
So yeah, i'll be mad too.
Kratos and Marcus are the perfect examples on how to treat and portray your legacy characters
Marcus might be old but he can still pull it off. But seriously, I'm glad he's there and Gears isn't a whole new story with different characters while the old characters are only referenced.
Marcus was a Cog long before the locust wars, that’s what’s cool to me, he is a vet of TWO MASSIVE WARS and went back for desert
No lie, Marcus looks like a freaking grizzly bear when I first saw him in this game.

I'm surprised they didn't show her the crystal. Marcus took one look and recognized it as an imulsion crystal so wouldn't that prove that the near apocalypse of the Lambent is starting to resurge again.
The lambent was completely wiped out after Adam fenix used the weapon in gears 3 that crystal is from a locust body after it died when the weapon went off
@@batty5265 I figured seeing as the Locust were initially mutated by imulsion and the crystal was the same color and apparently from the bodies of the Locust that she’d realize something else was going on.
To bad we never ever get to play as him again in the story mode
