Has Tanzania surpassed Kenya to be East Africa's Largest Economy?

- How Tanzania is rapidly closing its economic gap with Kenya.
Kenya’s status as East Africa’s economic powerhouse is at stake as Tanzania races closely behind, with a higher growth rate that is increasingly narrowing the gap between the two economies.
It's not a competition. Instead of thinking as Tanzanians or Ugandans or Kenyans, we should think as East Africans see ourselves as East Africans. In Kenya, we are always proud to learn that our neighborhood is growing. Hope Somalia, Burundi, Eritrea, Djibout, D.R.C and S.Sudan will pick up the pace. God bless East Africa and Africa
Okay 😀
Djibouti has impressive! Somalia in the next 10 years will surpass this countries as it enters growth phase fueled by rebuilding the country

Why not as african lol 😝 why the east tho
That's the spirit. The growth of our neighbors will ease pressure on us
TANZANIA's Target is not to overtake Kenya, but rather to lift her people out of poverty and dependency on foreign donors.
True I wished all Afrikans will do this and stop comparing
Who cares? They're both East African Federation members. The success of one will help the other.

It is not just about economic figures, it is about multitude of factors including strength of judiciary, politics, freedoms of expression, education, health, diplomatic relations, attractiveness to investors, and overall stability of the country. When you consider all these factors, Kenya is the outright leader in East Africa that has cemented its regional dominance in the region for decades.

Unless Kenya's economy stalls for a decade. But the numbers on manufacturing and exports shouldn't be a surprise. Kenya seems to be shifting to capital-intensive industries like finance and IT while Uganda and Tanzania are more into labor-intensive sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing. Same thing Ethiopia did a decade ago. You can see the focus in Kenya is on expanding banks and telcos like Safaricom across the region at the expense of manufacturing coz they're low hanging fruits. Recall also we're finalizing the Nairobi International Financial Centre to drive more capital to the country which will again be used to invest across EA. Not to say Kenya isn't investing in manufacturing or agriculture but we're less competitive on that front at the moment because of high cost of labor and energy. As for the service industry, we have the human resource (our biggest export) and ready capital.
Not to mention the utilities Kenyans enjoy country-wide. A lot of our neighbors lag when it comes to infrastructure upcountry
Kenya agrobusiness is the best in Africa, Kenya is moving into heavy manufacturing, just finish steel plant that will meet EA demand and the country is now producing computer chips, Kenya check gear box

Always Kenya would be Kenya and Tanzania would be Tanzania. Not about competition in between Kenya and Tanzania it's about improving the quality of life such as economic, health care, technological, educational and justice for all Citizens in both countries.
Who told you this is the competition?
Kinda of good news will help keep us working to do better
Tanzania is a good neighbor and honestly with all the minerals, large land mass, large sea line, more population I wonder how Kenya we are on top!!we have nothing apart from our population
Kenya is always ahead because Tanzanias economy in most cases is state controlled and persues wrong priorities
The margin was measured soon after our countries gain their independent. Since then we're working on that
Much love to african insider
Kenya is king, for now. Tanzania is the next king. Thereafter, DRC will take over and stay at the helm for a long time.
NAIROBI GDP is bigger than the economy of tanzania as a whole just let that sink in and I'm a small investor in Tanzania.
The problem with tanzania is red tape that scares a lot of investors but the country has a potential to be the biggest economy in East Africa if they could only relax some laws and reduce bureaucracy.
It really doesn't matter who has bigger economy most important thing is how many of Africans are coming out of abject poverty!
My guy, what do you mean when you say a 7% growth is equivalent to 7 time growth?!?? Now. Talking of Tz surpassing Kenya, they have been saying that since 2015. The Kenyan economy is way diversified and that's why it's shinning over Tz, when KE doesn't have natural resources like Tz.
TZ has gold, Gas, Diamond, Diamondi, Tanzanite, etc so what's their excuse of being behind 254?
It is true..the Kenyan economy has multiplied 7 times since 2000 from around 13b to now 100b
Together as one kenya and tanzania we must be together forever not other compare us no no
Great that all countries Are prospering, Kenyans Main problem is political wars between the elite, nothing gets done if politics take center stages everyday.
Kenya will forever be the powerhouse of East and Central Africa
So Dar es salaam is ahead of Nairobi 🙌
Yes, with a GDP of $5.6 Billion, against Nairobi's $14.8 Billion
@@NYONAMATENDE at least watch the video😂. IMF report approximates Dar real estate at 14b to 9b of Nairobi. Does that ring anything in your lazy head?😂
@@kajolo1288 Real estate and GDP are totally different things. Plus Nairobi has several satellite towns which are usually not considered in such valuations.
@@NYONAMATENDE I know that, but what you mean is Dar does not have satellite cities. Visit Kigamboni and you will understand
@@kajolo1288 lol, uko na akili nyingine ama ni hii tu? GDP means annual economic output while the real estate data is just speculation.
I'd love to visit both Countries.
I am glad for both countries. They are advancing. Also glad that Ethiopia, Uganda .... making progress.
Am tanzanian 🇹🇿🇹🇿🇹🇿
Competition is good because it will enable the countries grow faster, but should not be seen as enemity.
I'm not economist but I can make few remarks based on both countries. Tanzania has endowed with natural resources, large population, low corruption and more united country than Kenya. Tanzania because of the role she played in the decolonization and peace making in the continent it has power of GOODWILL to most countries.(It is says Kenya did not care much about others in Africa). The geography of Tanzania. But Tanzania to claim the title they should improve the market economy policies for private sector. In the other hand Kenya are had working thanks to capitalist mindset exist there, vibrant private sector. Kenya to maintain the title needs to fight the tribalism and good distribution of wealth within citizens.(By the data from world bank Kenya has higher percentage of people living in poverty than Tanzania).
Lastly both Kenya and Tanzania are brothers, they should focus on strong East Africa rather than individual. VIVA EAST AFRICA.
When it comes to corruption as far as the Transparency International is concerned there is no much difference between corruption in Kenya and Tanzania the difference is that Kenyans due to their free press make much more noise about their corruption incidences.DRC has more natural resources than any other country on the continent and look at where it is, in the same vein due to low level human capital Tanzania is unable to fully benefit from its natural resources while Kenya due to its higher level of human capital has gained tremendously from this resource.Just to put it in perspective last year remittances from Kenyans working in Tanzania were the highest in Africa from those Kenyans working in other countries on the continent.Lastly Kenya is the fifth largest foreign investor in Tanzania so as Tanzania grows it automatically means that Kenya grows.
@@rodneyagesa1851 Great battle between two poor, third-world, EA economies. I wish we didn't thump our chests the way we do!
@@davidngwesa there is nothing wrong with chest thumping if it helps you move forward.
@@rodneyagesa1851 The thing is these two poor, third-world economies will stay in that category or state for the longest time and so "moving forward" is a dream and chest-thumping is a waste of time!!
@@davidngwesa No they are NOT in the same category Tanzania is behind Kenya and so bench marking should be done with the countries that are ahead of them but keeping the reality in mind that both countries are operating on different levels. Chest thumping never hurt anyone but burying your head in the sand is what brings stagnantion.
👏👏👏👏
Kenya is investing more on technology and its support infrastructure as well as political stability.
Stop misleading Kenya is the power house of east africa
The way i love and enjoy my tanzanian i don't think if i need to go overseas 😘🇹🇿
Tanzania FOREVER EVER!! EVER!! in Kenya's Shadow by a mile ☑☑☑
If kenya stop mingle with Tanzania economy's and envy our prosperity as a most gifted country in whole EA, we for sure gonna surpasses kenya mind you with NLG and OIL that will soon be extracted wow!!it's be another story bro.
Unaongea matope
Nice
Aty envy
Dont blame kenya on your failure..
Magufuli tried to sabotage Kenya, but failed miserably!!
I think Tanzania is the king
From cameroon
Our Tz Brothers may enjoy faster growth but from a smaller Base. Ethiopia had the fastest growth rate in GDP in the 2010s but barely scratched the ceiling in income status.
Is there a competition?
I WONDER!!
I'm a tanzanian but I confess that Kanya's economy is by far bigger compared to Tanzania's economy. We as tanzanians have a big job to do to surpass Kenya's economy. Magufuli's leadership could do wonders and achieve that.
They're talking about growth not size
@@geraldimo4761 I know, There's growth but gdp per capita remains the same, and sometimes it decreases.
Magufooli was heading to a wrong direction
@@maqwaybaran9905 In your opinion? It would be better if you mentioned an African President heading to the right direction to be considered an example, before saying Magufuli was heading to a wrong direction.
@@rumdeesonsoa1811 well africa has got few tangible leader's but Magufooli was among the worst president he build international airport at his home village just like mobutu did
Every thing is about compition
Kenyans know the current situation in the country yes we have the highest gdp but people dont eat the gdp in kenya things are worse because of coruption and non essential politics Kenyans are just comforting themselves wait and see the next years elections if there will be no violence Tanzania overtook us after the first 3 years of Magufuli lets keep downplaying Tanzanians and they will go far and far
Kenya is number 1
How now????????

Let Tanzania add Uganda to their list to atlist come close to Kenyan Economy, the Tz people are really good day dreamers😂😂
How can you compare communist with capitalist County 😂
