That goes to show you just how wealthy this man was and how much money he made over his remarkable career. He still owed 3 million in just taxes alone when he passed. I think the stress alone of the IRS coming after him caused the heart attack. It's a really tragic end of a brilliant life.

I remember watching Sanford and Son at age 9 for the first time, and being instantly addicted. It was a rough time in my life, because my mother was being physically abused by her second husband on a weekly bases. I was so stressed out from hearing her cry all the time, and not being able to do anything to stop him. Sanford and Son, was my nightly escape. I would laugh so hard at Fred. I remember having nightmares about Aunt Esther coming to get me LOL. To this day, Sanford and Son is my all time favorite show, and i have all the seasons on dvd and i watch them when i am sad and i always feel better afterwards. I cried the day Redd Foxx passed away. I wish i could tell him how much joy he brought me, and continues to do, to this day. In my opinion, he is the greatest entertainer EVER.

Getting a loan without having the collateral to cover the loan is what can hurt you. This is what happened in the recent recession. Banks were giving big loans to broke morons. I call them morons because they're the ones you should have taken accountability. Banks got the bailouts and the big loan tycoons got F'D. Good for them. Don't over leverage yourself. Now things have changed. When you go for a loan it is in your best interest to make sure that you can back it up.
The IRS usually sends out letters to let you know what is wrong. I have heard working class people say that they get three letters back in the 1990's. They don't just come down on you, you are warned.

Here's another fun fact. Sanford & Son was based on the UK Sitcom Steptoe & Son. As many of you know alot of US Shows were inspired by UK Shows. All In The Family (Till Death Us Do Part), Too Close For Comfort (Keep It In The Family), Three's Company (Man About The House). Also Queer As Folk was a UK Show before it had it's US Version not to mention The Office, and in it's own way England is the "Creator Of Reality TV" Popstars, Pop Idol, Strictly Come Dancing.

In the late 1980's he was earning $200,000 per week in Vegas and he still had issues paying his debts. Before he died he was earning $50,000 per episode on his new sitcom. He had problems because he created them...Remember, he had the #1 show on NBC and the #2 show on TV during the height of Sanford and Son. The man wrote his own ticket!!

One thing not mentioned in this clip is that at the time of his death, Redd Foxx was ON the set of his last TV show, "The Royal Family" co-starring Della Reese. If he owed $1 million in 1989.. and then the IRS seized all his cars and his house.. that would have settled his debt. Apparently Redd was making payments to get his house back, but the debt was eliminated by them taking the house. It makes no sense that he could go from having no debt in 1989 - to being $3 million in debt at the time of his death 2 years later, especially since at the time of his death, he had just completed 15 episodes of "The Royal Family". He made a LOT of money, and he was overly generous both to his friends and himself. He got wiped out, but he was still bringing in huge amounts of money when he passed. This clip implies that Redd Foxx died a failed man.. when that is the opposite of the truth. The thing that caused Redd Foxx to die probably 15 years prematurely was his SMOKING. On average, it is estimated that smoking reduces one's lifespan by 15 years.. which is about a 25% reduction in one's adult life.

Faking so many heart attacks lead to his death from the real thing. The other Royal Family cast members thought he was fooling around. Getting him medical help a few moments sooner may have saved his life.

Ironic how on the show Sanford & Son he faked a heart attack for laughs and ended up actually dying from one.
