Very timely review Claire. After a lot of online research, I choose Agreeable Gray as the wall color for my place but hadn't decided on the trim color. So, not only did I get ideas on trim, but accent colors for my bathrooms too. I have non-professional photos if you're interested, and I went from orange peel to smooth texture.
I have this color on my office and bedroom walls, I have a lot of natural light(and use daylight bulbs) in my house, looks gray not beige at all. Love the color!
Love it. I think I'm going to try Agreeable Gray with Pure White trim. I'm painting my fireplace Urbane Bronze. Hoping it'll give the space a very modern but still cozy feel.
When you, and oth, ers, review colors, I would really like to see what type of lighting works best with the color-warm lighting? cool lighting? bright white lighting?
This is why it's important to get educated on what to look for in regards to undertones and colours that compliment each other, but then go test your own sample boards in your home. But remember, the paint colour you choose will either work with your fixed elements or fabrics, or it won't.
put Agreebale Gray in our family room in Aug. 2019, looking to finish up our house update, really like the idea of Sea Salt! still trying to figure out the whites.
I am building a new home and the main color of the home that the manufacturers pic is Dover white I am falling in love with agreeable gray and don’t have the energy or time to paint the whole house that color I do see that agreeable gray pairs with Dover white. My question is do you think agreeable gray would make a nice accent color for certain rooms like living room maybe bedroom? I am considering painting my walk in closet and maybe my bathroom agreeable gray altogether but bigger rooms like kitchens and living rooms and bedrooms I think I’ll just do that as an accent color wanted your input on that. Thank you so much.
Hi Crissy. Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams would make a lovely accent colour or full room colour for any room. Just be sure that the decorative elements you put in the space works well with this tone. Thanks for watching!
We just bought a home built in 2018 that used agreeable gray with a type of white wainscoting and it looks so beautiful. I went ahead and hired a painter to paint the downstairs and upstairs to add a fresh coat of it all (they had 4 kids and a big doggy so it was a bit scratched up). Now it looks so so clean and fresh, I love this color of grey because it doesn't feel too dark, it brightens up the space. It's neutral and makes my white trim, cabinets and wainscoting look so modern. I highly recommend it. I used a durable finish so we can wipe off my kiddo's inevitable markings. I think it would look good with any accent colors you choose.
I'm so happy that you love Agreeable Gray and that the painter did a great refresh job! And yes, there are so many fabulous colours you can pair with it. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience Kristine!
Both of those colours will work with Anonymous. Repose Gray is slightly cooler than Agreeable Gray, so it will depend on which direction your want to take the space and you need to take into consideration other design elements in your home. Look to see if items such as countertops or fireplace stone lean more towards the cool grays or warm beiges. Hope that helps!

I just painted the main floor in Agreeable Gray and it looks beautiful. I would like to lighten the remaining paint a little for painting the bedrooms. Do you know if it would be okay to lighten by 20%? EDIT: We did lighten it for the bedrooms. Maybe a bit too much, as it is a little washed out; it looks more like light gray than greige. But it's nice enough. (We don't know the lightened percentage because we just added white to the remainder of the agreeable gray we had already purchased.)
I lightened AG by 50% for the master and master bath and it is so pretty. Sometimes, when you lightened a color it changes the tone, but not at 50% lighter AG
Just purchased a house and every room is painted agreeable gray including a kitchen withe beige tile and oak cabinets (and grasscloth that is on the way out)...what color would tone down all the beige/browns to paint cabinets and grasscloth?

Hi Mary. I am not familiar with that Granite. I suggest you paint a large board with Agreeable Gray and see how it looks with the finishes that you have in your space. Move the board around the room at different parts of the day to see how it looks in the different lighting. I never recommend altering a colour to do a certain percentage of it. There are so many to choose from, I promise that the right one is out there! Good luck.
My kitchen is in a north facing room and the cabinets looks creamy-white (sometimes yellow). What type of a gray would you recommend to pair or neutralize the yellowness in the cabinets? I'm deciding between repose gray and agreeable gray.
Take both of those colours and paint large boards. Put them next to the cabinets and see how they look at different times of the day to determine if one of them is a winner for your walls.

I love agreeable gray. It's a perfect neutral. When we were building house, builder offered Sherwim William's paints, and we chose Agreeable gray for the entire house. Down the road I'd like to paint the bathrooms sea salt.
Hi! I’m having my whole downstairs painted and up stairs painted tomorrow in Agreeable gray my house is very open! The ceiling in the living room are 30 feet tall and they go all the way to the hallway cat walk upstairs the” hall” will be painted too because it shares the same ceiling as the living room! the kitchen is also open to the living room and the formal living and dining room so there were very few walls that were “by themselves” the current color is a very beige color and it makes the space dark it’s a nice color but I’m over how dark they look at night also the former owner had some of the ceilings painted beige along with the walls so it makes it even darker in the rooms I’m really hoping it lightens up the space and it’s more of a grey than a beige color..🙏🏼😅fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Hi there! I painted my entire house Agreeable Gray (trim, crown molding, plantation shudders are all Dover White). I felt confident painting the entire house with this combination because it's so popular, but now I can't help but see purple walls! Is there anything I can do to help it? Most windows face east/west, so I know that can be tricky. Thanks in advance!
Oh wow. Perhaps you are using deep, dark coloured furnishings in the space that is reflecting purple or blue that's making it appear purple on the walls? Is it just one room or the entire house? Is the light affecting it?
Most of the rooms have a purple tint to me (my husband thinks I’m crazy of course!) We have heart pine flooring in most rooms (slightly dark), so that could be it? We have can lights with 75w halogen bulbs (1070 brightness). Thanks for replying!
We are building and I’ve decided on Agreeable Gray for most of the home except for bedrooms. Would Silver Strand in a bedroom flow with Agreeable Gray?
When I choose colours, I rarely worry about the direction the room faces -unless it's a south facing room and then I'm cautious about specifying brighter colours. Grab my free download and you'll get my 5 tips on how to choose the right paint colour the first time --> clairejefford.com/ccd-freebies/
Hi Claire, I hope all is well. I have a question. My Kitchen is Sea Salt SW and my Living Room is Gossamer Veil SW. What dark accent color would you recommend I paint the inside of my front door?
Hey Genny. I have some new Essential Colour Guides that provide you with paint colour options for each featured colour. Here is a link if you are interested to see those 10 colours, one may just be the right one for you --> clairejefford.com/product/sea-salt/
I don't pay too much attention to the direction of a room unless it's south facing and someone wants a bright colour, then you need to be careful as it may be way too bright for you. North facing rooms tend to be a little more green at certain time's of the day, and seeing as Agreeable Gray is a green gray, you should be fine as long as it works with other elements in your space.
Hi Karlene. I've never used Pussywillow, but from the images that I can see online it looks like it's got green in it. Therefore, it should work with Agreeable Gray. See what the colours look like together and with your other design elements.
I haven't used it yet but it's on my short list for my new build along with BM Pale Oak. I will have medium/dark hickory floor and a light gray/beige carpet. The carpet is throwing me for a loop when choosing colors, it sometimes looks gray and sometimes looks beige (I only have a small sample to go from). But beiges look too beige with it and grayer grays look too gray. Agreeable seems to be a good compromise.
You could use the same colour on the ceiling, you will just likely want a different sheen. Most ceilings are painted in a flat/matt sheen so not to get much reflection from lighting.
Enjoying your videos! I am thinking about painting my two-story (south-facing) foyer Agreeable Gray, but want to leave the ceiling and crown molding, as is. The current colors are Farrow & Ball Oxford Stone on the walls, with Farrow & Ball's Dimity on the ceiling and crown molding. Would SW Agreeable Gray clash with the Dimity? Or would you recommend a different wall color?
Hi Debra. I suggest you look at all the paint colours on large sample boards and see if they work well together or what other options may be better. I am not familiar with all the colours you have listed, so can't say off the top of my head.
I have this color in my family room and love it. The room has lots of windows and is quite bright. My floors are slate so it pics up a lot of grey. Love it. I am looking to paint my hallway which isn’t nearly as bright as my family room. Our floors are a dark hardwood, like an espresso color. Do you think this would pair well with that? I start to feel overwhelmed with all the color choices! I would like to bring that color through the hallway and then straight on down our stairs to the foyer....any tips would be awesome! Thanks! :)
Hello Noelle. I have a list of 10 co-ordinating colours in my Essential Colour Guide for Agreeable Gray. There are a few blue options listed that you can pair with this lovely Sherwin Williams colour. You can learn more here -> clairejefford.com/product/agreeable-gray-tear-sheet/
Hello Alma. Many colours can be paired together, but you will need to look at the proposed colours together and with all of your finishes to determine which work best. Agreeable gray is quite 'muddy' so you want to be careful about pairing it with a yellow that is bright.
@Alma Leticia Loya Barrio: Try to pair it with Jersey Cream. I painted my open concept kitchen in Jersey Cream and the adjacent living/dining room in Agreeable Gray. I think they look good together.
Beige has various undertones like green, yellow and pink which is likely why you are finding it hard to find the right gray. Both of those colours are not cool grays though, but always be sure to test with a large painted sample board to see what looks best.
Thank you for the great review. I just got my house painted in agreeable gray. I love the color but at some areas of the house it gives a purple/bluish tone. What can do to achieve more of greyish tone on my walls?
This could be because of your lighting and/or other furnishings you have in the space. This is partly why I always recommend to paint a large colour board and move it around the room at different times of the day prior to painting. That way you can see how the colour will read in different areas and different times of the day.
I am painting the dining room with this color , and it looks lighter than I was thinking, so I am looking for ideas about this , maybe when finished it looks as I was waiting for 🤞🤞
great video! We are finishing out basement, to be a man cave, open laundry room and master bath and bedroom. We used Repose Gray on the walls throughout the upstairs, with Decorators White (BM) ceiling/trim. Since the downstairs doesn't have much natural light I wanted to go with a more greige and was thinking Agreeable Gray (our contractor uses Sherwin Williams) Would you recommend Agreeable Gray? What white for ceiling/trim? I want a crisp white. And I wanted to do Sea Salt in the bathroom with white marble shower and floor tile and gray vanity, what white for ceiling/trim would you recommend? should we keep the white the same throughout? Thanks so much
Hi Nancy! Absolutely Agreeable Gray would work in a basement, any colour will as long as you decorate wisely and look to the hard elements like flooring and any stone to ensure it works with those. I mentioned 3 whites in the video to use with Agreeable Gray, but have more details on other colour combinations in my Essential Colour Guide downloads. I have ones for each of these colours. Agreeable Gray ECG is here --> clairejefford.com/product/agreeable-gray/ and my Sea Salt PDF can be found here --> clairejefford.com/product/sea-salt/
Hi David. Yes, they are close. While I don't have the colours to hand just now, I know that they are both a green gray. Many neutral colours from the same undertone family can be similar with slight differences in their intensity and how much of the undertone comes through.
Hi Debbie. Beige isn't an undertone, beige, like grays, have undertones like green, purple, blue, pink, etc. Agreeable Gray will look more beige next to a cooler gray.
Everyone has been talking about it because that's the neutral that has been on trend in home design for nearly the past ten years. Over the last couple of years we have been seeing more whites, taupes and greiges. Gray doesn't have to be for you, there are thousands of other colours out there. :)

@@StefanAlexandruGeogloman yes, but you need to look at other fixed elements such as tiles, countertops, stone etc. Also remember that Agreeable Gray has a green undertone, so may bring out the cherry red more if it's right next to it because green and red are complimentary colours.

Hi there Tania. I haven't used Repose Gray myself, nor do I have a large sample board of that colour. If you want coordinating colour options, you can always take a look at investing in my Essential Colour Guide download with 10 colours that will pair nicely with Agreeable Gray. Here is the link if you are interested --> clairejefford.com/product/agreeable-gray/
How would this look with biage cabinets and black countertops?
It really depends on the undertones of the beige. Black is a neutral, so you should be good there. Always check your colours on a large painted sample before you commit to painting a space. Grab my Free guide with 5 tips to choosing the right colour, it should help! --> clairejefford.com/ccd-freebies/
I love agreeable gray. It's a perfect neutral. When we were building house, builder offered Sherwim William's paints, and we chose Agreeable gray for the entire house. Down the road I'd like to paint the bathrooms sea salt.
Sea salt in a bathroom is lovely!
How ironic. I’m using Agreeable Gray in my home and Sea Salt in my bathroom. Nice.
@@Kimai1016 That's awesome!!!
I am looking for a nice greigh that will go with golden oak floors and a red brick fireplace. Any recommendations?
Hi Steve. That's not really enough information for me to properly be able to provide you with an option for a paint colour. There are many other things to consider when choosing a paint, I suggest you start with downloading my free guide with 5 tips to choosing the right paint colour the first time. It will give you a good idea on where to start --> clairejefford.com/ccd-freebies/
My kitchen cabinets are Cloud white, am thinking of painting walls agreeable gray, will they go together?
Yes!
We are building and I’ve decided on Agreeable Gray for most of the home except for bedrooms. Would Silver Strand in a bedroom flow with Agreeable Gray?
Hi Kristen! These two colours work beautifully together. So as long as other decorative elements in the space work with these tones, then go for it!
Is agreeable Gray a good color for a north facing bedroom? I’m looking for a neutral color, I have a lot of black accents in my bedroom.
When I choose colours, I rarely worry about the direction the room faces -unless it's a south facing room and then I'm cautious about specifying brighter colours.
🤔 is this a good choice for a north facing living room ?
I don't pay too much attention to the direction of a room unless it's south facing and someone wants a bright colour, then you need to be careful as it may be way too bright for you. North facing rooms tend to be a little more green at certain time's of the day, and seeing as Agreeable Gray is a green gray, you should be fine as long as it works with other elements in your space.
Could I use the shade Pussywillow on my kitchen cabinets if my walls are agreeable grey?
Get a big sample. 😊 I'm excited for you!!
Great video! May I use Agreeable gray for my entire house including the ceiling? My condo doesn’t have much natural light. Thank you!
Thanks! :)
We are using agreeable gray for our whole downstairs with pure white base borded. I'm trying to find a good blue to go with it. Any suggestions?
Hello Noelle. I have a list of 10 co-ordinating colours in my Essential Colour Guide for Agreeable Gray. There are a few blue options listed that you can pair with this lovely Sherwin Williams colour. You can learn more here -> clairejefford.com/product/agreeable-gray-tear-sheet/
Can you combine the agreeable gray color with some yellow tone?
Thinking of using agreeable gray with a cavern clay accent wall in our new finished basement. Thoughts?
While I don't currently have my swatches of SW colours with me, I would say that these 2 colours would look lovely together!
Would you recommend agreeable gray or repose gray with a beige carpet ? Having a hard time finding a gray that looks good with my carpet. Thanks!
Thank you for the review. I don't want green undertone, want a taupey gray, am thinking revere pewter from your previous review.
Hey Trish. Revere Pewter has a green undertone too. Maybe you want more of a taupe...
I painted my whole house with agreeable grey I am so happy with it
So great to hear this Jovanny! Cheers for sharing.
Thanks
My pleasure! Thanks for watching.
I used it in my kitchen cabinets
Are you happy with them?
They look so much better than the orange oak I had before. It lightened up my small kitchen.thank you for noticing my comment
Great idea to do paint color videos!
Thanks Christine! These are one of my favourite types of videos to create!
howdy , is the agreeable Gray close to Accessible Beige by any chance ? Thank you
Hi David. Yes, they are close. While I don't have the colours to hand just now, I know that they are both a green gray. Many neutral colours from the same undertone family can be similar with slight differences in their intensity and how much of the undertone comes through.
As always, great video explaining colours. I’ve used Agreeable Gray before but no professional photos. Sorry!
Thanks Sheri!
I think that Agreeable Gray has a beige under tone not really a green under tone.
Hi Debbie. Beige isn't an undertone, beige, like grays, have undertones like green, purple, blue, pink, etc. Agreeable Gray will look more beige next to a cooler gray.
Skein rhymes with "pain". As in a skein of yarn for knitting.
Thanks Mary! As you can tell, I had no idea how to pronounce it. 😜
I was getting ready to paint my downstairs livingroom walls with agreeable grey. Now i am not. Back to do more resource. 🤯
Ur awesome!!!!!!
Thanks 😎😍😘
I HATE GRAY. THAT'S ALL EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT LATELY.
Everyone has been talking about it because that's the neutral that has been on trend in home design for nearly the past ten years. Over the last couple of years we have been seeing more whites, taupes and greiges. Gray doesn't have to be for you, there are thousands of other colours out there. :)
